Things were getting out of control, and pulling a smidge of bravery from her alternate persona Min took a breath and stepped in to defend her team mate, indirectly, by trying to defuse the entire situation before things got bad. She almost put herself between the various factions but kept out of the direct line of confrontation and targeted the weakest and hopefully most sympathetic link.

"Lisa oh good, we've got to hurry or we won't make it across campus to Mr. Miller's physics before the bell rings. You know what kind of trouble we'll get into if we're late. I can't afford it and I know you can't either."
2d6+2(45) + 2 = 11

Min was relieved when Lisa quickly took the excuse. "Oh wow, you're right, we had better hurry." It was a timely excuse and a reason to get away from here and Lisa wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Even if Min 'accidentally' lead the pair of them across the hall interrupting the imminent conflict, if only for a moment almost breaking light of sight between the two escalating sides... neither girl being of a height to block the glaring being done between basketball and football stars. But at least they did delay it and give others a chance to calm down with the momentary delay and a further excuse to call things off if they were the type to take it.
OOC:
Hopefully I've done this correctly, as I rolled an 11 I think that's not only a hit but one successful enough for me to complete some more of the narration? The intended roll is defense someone, she's just using a novel approach to do so. If I've overstepped or misunderstood please do let me know. I'm very new to the system and this site so figuring out the tools it uses hasn't quite meshed yet.

Eriko struggles to weave through the halls with a backpack full of just about every book for every class she has. Her locker was only just big enough for all her gear, and she planned today - like every day - to hit the batting cages after school and to do some training. Thus, her back became her academic locker, and she had to jostle her way through the throngs of students who were much more conservative in the belongs they took from classroom to classroom.

When she hits across a blockage, Eriko cranes onto her toes to try and peer at whatever has caused the disturbance. Eventually, she just starts jumping up and down to look over the sea of taller students. Ogre was there, and he was stationary... he was never stationary, and for precisely this reason. What gives?

Ah, Stacey. Where there's smoke, there's a dumpster fire, after all.

Eriko's first instinct is to push her way through the crowds and give the blonde idiot a piece of her mind, but she catches sight of the look Ogre is giving Jodelle, and restrains herself. It wouldn't be helping if it made things worse for him, would it? Eriko looks around, trying to think of something she can do or say to diffuse the situation as the ring forms around the ever-tensing verbal sparring match. She doesn't find an answer... but she clocks Beau prowling forth like a jungle cat. Oh, that definitely can't be good news. Eriko pushes towards her instead.

She steps in front of Beau and puts on a smile. "I can promise whatever idea you have right now is a bad one, friend, even if your heart's in the right place. How about you help me think of a way to diffuse things, yeah? Because I'm about two seconds from pulling the fire alarm and getting myself suspended," she says with a chuckle.

Beau’s unnerving glare snaps from the altercation happening beyond them, to Eriko, brave enough to step in front of her. Because of that, she misses Min’s interference. Inside those jacket pockets, Eriko would see Beau’s hands clench, tightly, but she says nothing for the moment - she might be persuaded...
OOC:
I think it’s gonna need a roll to stop Beau from coming to the aid of her Love (or frustration of her Rival, once she realises Min is there), probably a Provoke if you’re trying to deflect her or stall her long enough to let the others go, maybe even a comfort/support if you’re legitimately trying to calm her down?
May 7, 2024 2:19 am
Eriko's cheery smile turns sympathetic, and she gently pats Beau on the shoulder. "I get it. You want to help. But helping is about getting the good guys what they need, not about giving the bad guys punishment. And the Big Guy needs this to blow over."
OOC:
Rolling Provoke. Definitely feels more "deflect" than "calm down."

Edit: Lol, that's unfortunate :D

Provoke Beau into picking an option other than confrontation - (2d6)

Lisa was scared witless. She hadn’t noticed Lin grabbing her hand until the young girl started pulling her arm. She took one step forward, before she caught the angry sideway glance from Stacy and immediately came to a halt. She couldn’t abandon her ‘friends’ without repercussions. That was guaranteed. Being smashed around by the Ogre – not as much.
OOC:
The right Move is ‘Provoke Someone’, because Lisa wasn’t in any real danger (yet!). The adjusted roll with the right label is a ‘9’, and Lisa (which is part of the Harpies) are considered to have ‘stumbled’, giving Blacklight a +1 forward against them whenever she tries to exploit the division in their ranks.
May 7, 2024 3:40 am
Mission accomplished! Now all she had to do was sit back and watch the two young men tear into each other over the stupid drama she caused. She knew Cam well enough; fists were going to fly if Jason didn’t get out of the way. Maybe a small extra push would help to make sure she achieved her desired outcome:

"Cam, we only want to get to our next class, and they’re not letting us through!"

OOC:
Oh, I was trying to be too clever it appears. I figured I was trying to defend others, the method being a distraction. So since the end goal was to defend people in the situation the roll should reflect that rather than provoke someone. That's just me not quite yet getting the system down yet. Please continue to correct me whenever I mistake something.

Delirium says:
"That’s an AWESOME idea" The smile returned to Deion’s face. He didn’t know whether Enola could find the cat or not, but the fact that she volunteered to offer her help would let Angie know she had friends at school who cared for her. She could take comfort in that, at least. "You know what? I’m going to ask a few of my buddies to come over this afternoon and help search for him. We’ll split the neighborhoods into a grid and assign a person to search each area" Deion was starting to get caught up in his own excitement "I’m sure we’re going to find him in no time!"

Like, how far away could Mr. Sleepy possibly stray? He’s probably hiding under a nearby car or something. The ever-optimistic boy didn’t wait for Angelina’s reply. He was busy texting his friends before he ever completed his sentence!
Though Enola can admire Deion’s enthusiasm to help, she was expecting to do this by herself with the help of her rodent friends. It’s more efficient that way and makes sure no one else goes missing. Still, it can’t hurt. Once the ever-passionate Deion moves away out of earshot, Enola decides to speak to Angelina more personably.

"Hey, I know you’re really worried. I get it. I really do. However, I’m confident Mr. Sleepy is okay. Cats are resourceful and intelligent, even the lazier ones. It will be okay. This may sound like a stupid question but how are you doing?"

Jodelle sighs. Why does her brother have to get involved in this one? She shakes her head.
She and Sonny had it under control, really! But now it is big brother going to be all protective about little sister.

How would she be a true hero if Jason has to come bail her out? Well, he doesn't. But that probably won't stop him.

"Got a nasty bark, Barker," Jodelle says to Cameron. "Just what I'd expect from Stacey's lap dog. Now be a good puppy and escort your mistress to her class."

Jodelle steps aside, making room for Stacy and her gang to pass through, hopefully ending this situation without too much colateral damage.
OOC:
Marking Insecure, because Jason is interfering.
She is trying to solve this herself by provoking Cameron with the intention for him to back down.

Ogre waits in the corridor as people start to fight and snipe around him. Everybody seems to want to take a side.

He fumed. This was all Stacy's fault. Stacy and her followers anyway. He couldn't believe that Sonny had had a crush on Lisa last year. Like she would care anyway.

I just want to get to class!

A fantasy played out in his head where he cleared the way to class with a sweep of his arm. All his tormentors tossed out of the way like rag-dolls or squashed by his enormous feet. So easy! All he had to do was move a little and everyone would be cleared out of the way, one way or another.

He didn't do that. Instead, he stood there silently. Jodelle would fix this, and he wouldn't give the haters ammunition by reacting.
OOC:
I really, really considered using "Be the Monster" here (such a fun move), but Ogre is going to be the bigger monster here and not react.

Marking Angry to represent Ogre's frustration.

Also added a fun bit of world-building. Sonny used to have a crush on Lisa Nowak.

Beau pushes past Eriko, knocking her aside not with purpose, but like one might move through a dream. The only thing she says, very quietly, almost quiet enough to be missed over the hubbub of the school: "Shut up." It’s unclear if that’s directed at Eriko... or Stacy herself.

These three mean girls didn’t particularly care for Beau before, but she was certainly not on their radar and they were not on hers, at least publicly. Now, she storms up to the group, approaching Stacy in particular with intent - either blind or immune to the grandstanding of the two jocks she couldn’t care less about. No. Stacy was cruel to her friend.

Quietly intruding on the scene, Beau steps up to Ogre, and then into Stacy’s personal space, and brings one fist out of her pocket to place against Stacy’s chest with the intent to push her away.
OOC:
I don’t necessarily want to take an action here, just set up the stakes for the other rolls that need to be resolved. Beau is definitely going to get violent here, but not in a fisticuffs way - I imagined more of a shove that sends Stacy flying, should she be allowed to continue. Some of that does depend on what the girls + jocks are doing, though. If the boys start fighting here that’ll probably bring her into it, as well.

Cam's lip twisted into a sneer. If Jodelle was a man, he would have punched her lights out by now. But she was a girl. And younger than him. But most importantly - there were far too many witnesses. He couldn't allow himself to physically assault a girl half his size without losing his status as the high school's most popular jock.

He was fuming inside over the little brat's insult, and for a moment, really did consider if teaching her a lesson would be worth it or not. Luckily for him, his girlfriend wrapped her arm around his, before his Neanderthals' brain made the decision for him.
May 8, 2024 4:16 am
"Come on, Cam. She isn't worth your time"

Chloe didn't really care much about what happened to Jodelle. If there weren't any people around, she wouldn't have held back her boyfriend. It's just that an outburst of violence from Cam, against a young 'defenseless' girl, would make him lose Status at school. And that would reflect on HER, as his girlfriend. She wanted to be known as the girl dating the most popular and successful guy at school rather than a violent offender. How would she ever make Prom Queen if Cam was ostracized for being a mindless brute?

Tugging on his arm, she started ushering a reluctant Cam away. That was the cue for Lisa, and a much disappointed Stacy to leave as well, if only Baeu hadn't chosen that exact time to intercede...
May 8, 2024 4:40 am
A faint smile crossed Stacy's lips. She didn't like Jodelle, but she gained a modicum of respect for her. She had spunk! And was smart enough to move out of the way, thus not giving Cam any excuse to push past her, or her brother. Shame this entire farce was over without a more satisfying conclusion, but she was sure she would be able to instigate some more drama before the day was out. Maybe spread a rumor about Mr. Miller being involved with one of his students? Or that Liam was secretly an undercover police officer? He has been losing his hair, at eighteen, so it might stick.

There was movement in the crowd. Students scurrying away like mice before a raging bull. Baeu had that aura of menace around her, and not one student wanted to stand in her way.

Stacy, however, stood her ground.
Ignoring the whimper from Lisa, she looked straight at Baeu with an unflinching gaze as she closed the distance and got in her face. Her lips only contorted to a surprised 'O' when the weird girl put her hand over her chest.

And then...?

***** Meanwhile, on the other side of the hallway *****

Deion left as soon as Angelina sent him a photo of Mr. Sleepy, off to talk with his friends and try to persuade them to spend their afternoon looking for a stray cat of a girl they never heard about. But Enola hadn't left just yet, and Angie was starting to feel uncomfortable in her presence. She has seen the older girl waiting for their school bus, so she knew she must live somewhere near her. But they've never actually talked till now. It was a bit awkward, and embarrassing, considering she was so close to tears:

"He would never have wandered off on his own. Don't you get it? Something happened to him!"

Angie was convinced beyond doubt that some foul play was involved. Mr. Sleepy never went past the front porch. Never! It wasn't like him. If he was gone, it was because something bad happened. Very bad. Why couldn't she get any of them to understand that!

"I'm sorry" NOW she felt a tear rolling down her cheek. Crying at school. That's how people will remember her for the rest of the school year. Without saying another word, she hurried down to the girl's bathroom, completely unaware that everyone's attention was not on her, but blissfully elsewhere today

Sonny sees Beau come up and put her hands on Stacey. He doesn't like where this is going.

"Hey Beau," he says reaching down to try and grab her arm, "I need a hand with something if that's ok"

Sonny figures if he's really lucky he'll deflect Beau before she can do anything and no one will notice. If he's just lucky, then maybe Stacy will get huffy with Ogre and not anyone else.

And if he's unlucky? Well, he'd been part-timing as a social pariah, he should probably go full-time anyway.
OOC:
Apologies if I'm too late with this roll. Please ignore it if I shouldn't be making it.

Edit: If the success makes sense, I'll choose to expose myself to danger (presumably hate/fear/ridicule), and I will also clear Angry. for vs PC move "you expose yourself to cost, retribution, or judgment"
.

The air is electric, thick with tension. Most of these students don’t know that Beau could kill them with a misplaced strike. And only some of these students know that she wouldn’t.

Then Sonny grabs her arm, and while he’s likely the stronger of the two in raw force, she could pull away with little effort, if she wanted to - but she doesn’t. He would likely know that she lets him take her hand away, tendons going lax as she blinks, oddly, wincing a little. Beau is not, however, appeased, her eyes still dark with fury.

"... leave him alone," she says to Stacy, before grabbing Sonny’s wrist and extricating them both from the scene. Or letting him do the extricating. It’s hard to tell.

Enola watches as Angelina scurries off in sadness. Although she was trying to be helpful, she can appreciate how worried she must be as well as how unusual it’d be for someone who’s barely an acquaintance to come up to her and offer support when they’re feeling particularly vulnerable. At least Deion left so Angelina could have some breathing room.

As she turns, Enola becomes aware of the situation occurring between her fellow teammates and the so-called popular kids. She sucks on her teeth in annoyance, wanting so badly to conjure a small plague of rats to humble them. It wouldn’t be too difficult. She can already sense several of them in the walls as it is. There’s even the mice in the science lab that she could call upon. However, she can’t expose herself. She doesn’t even want her teammates to know that she’s actually Vermite, and so to use her powers in such a grand fashion would give her away. Not only that, but it might also endanger her rodent friends, especially if there’s a panic. Instead, she tries to opt for something more subtle.

She reopens her locker and sticks her head inside, appearing to be grabbing books. In actuality, she closes her eyes to attune to the presence of a single rodent. She opens her eyes to now see what looks like the inside of her backpack. Looking at her hands reveals little rodent paws, and popping her head out of the backpack shows herself concentrating in her locker. She is looking through Skipper, a small field mouse that lives just outside of her own home. She goaded this little one with some processed cheese from her packed lunch this morning. After that, Skipper joined her for a little adventure.

"Alright little guy," she communicates to the mouse through her extended senses. "Time to make your debut. Be careful, okay? Now let’s see how brave these popular girls really are."

The mouse then stealthily moves out of the locker, along the wall, and right beneath Stacy’s feet.

Stacy had no idea how close she’d been to eating her meals through a straw. She did know that the disheveled girl who looked like she escaped from an asylum, and who dared!! put her hand on her, was about to do something far worse if the Ogre hadn’t intervened when he did.

She looked up at the hulk with a puzzled look. Why did he protect her, after everything she said about him? There was a short second in which her eyes expressed some measure of gratitude, and then that moment was gone, replaced by her cold facade.

The Ogre was only looking to save its own skin, probably because it didn’t want to get in trouble. Or maybe because it thought she would be nice to it henceforth. But surely not because of some altruistic motive. People never did anything, unless it benefited them personally.

"Let’s go"

The Ogre and the psychotic girl left, which meant the show was over. She tapped her shoe twice on the floor to get Lisa to snap out of it and fall behind her, like a trained poodle, only to physically push her away when a small mouse scurried between their legs:

"What’s wrong with you today?!" she forcibly yanked her arm out of Lisa’s panicked grasp "Get a grip! It’s only a mouse!" and to prove to her that it was harmless, she raised her leg intending to stomp it with her foot, only the little bugger was far too fast for her, darting away into a nearby classroom from which hysteric bawls soon followed

"Friggin’ school going down the drain"

With one final huff, she led her two friends down the hall, giving Jodelle the stink-eye as she went past her.
