Volume I: The Lost Boys

"I was trying to save my sister" her shoulder sagged. If dying would have advanced his research, she would have made the sacrifice willingly. "He's the only one who could have helped"

"Umm. Thanks. For saving my life and all. I, for one, had no intention on becoming dinner"
The teen Mimic saved finally stepped from behind her. It was a close call, and he was still deathly pale after the near-death experience.
"This is some crazy shit, Chayton. You could have killed us all!"

"You're welcome. You aren't..hurt or anything, are you?" She'd heard adrenaline did weird things. What if she'd grabbed him too hard and he hadn't noticed yet? She was made of concrete. She should actually relax so it went away. There weren't any zombies around anymore.
"And if it didn't work, you would have died for nothing."

"Your sister, Zuri? What has happened to her? How would becoming a zombie save her?" Night arrow asks quite confused.

Zuri shrugged. Maybe she would have died for nothing. It didn't seem to matter anymore.
She didn't answer Night Arrow either, her eyes welling up again as she shook her head violently.

"She drowned" Danny whispered softly. "I'm sorry. We're all messed up like that"
Even Chayton, and Miguel. Desperation can cause you to do all sort of crazy things.

"We really need to get moving"
Someone must have alerted the police, maybe one of the boys fleeing when the Ogre roared the building clear. The approaching sirens were growing ever louder, and Danny didn't want to stick around and find out what they'll do with him. "I can leave, right?"

Blacklight took a look over Danny to see if he was armed. If he was one of the boy's who had been toting around a gun then she wouldn't want him leaving, but otherwise she would go ahead and wave him off. Chayton however she intended to have face the music. "I'm going to contact the police and let them know the situation." She almost said more but it was the first time working with most of the heros here and she wasn't quite sure how to pose her question delicately. Instead she just let them know what was going on, keeping them in the loop. Confident now all the zombies were accounted for she pulled out her phone and contacted 911, identifying herself as a hero and asking to be put in contact with the response team being sent to the old hospital as she has information about the situation.

- " You are not going anywhere Danny. Don't even think about it. One don't wave guns at people and getting away with it. " Still holding Clayton, Danny probably knows trying to run from a flying super woman is hopeless.

"What? I don't even own a piece!" Not that he particularly objected to having one, but since he didn't, he saw no reason for them to hold him up. He wasn't even in the room when the shit hit the fan.

"Hey! Watch the hair!!!" being held by his ponytail, and by a girl, was humiliating to the young gang-member, but every time he tried pulling away, he ended up winching with pain. Begging, as distasteful as he found it, was the only option left to him "Come on, let me go. I haven't done nothing. I won't tell anyone anything. I was only trying to get my dad back, and you came here and messed everything up for everyone!!"

Blacklight finally managed to convince the 911 dispatch to connect her with the officers, who, by the sounds of the approaching sirens, were parked not far away from the Hospital:

"This is officer Martinez. Who am I talking to? Are you the one holding the hostages?"

" Good. " She answers Danny. " Then you have nothing to worry about the police. You stay here, like the others. "

"Hostages? There has been a miscommunication somewhere. I'm the super hero Blacklight, my team and I have just stopped a mad scientist who was experimtenting with zombies. A number of unpowered gang members have fled on foot and some are armed. However within the building we have the doctor and several of the gang members in custody. The zombies have been neutralized. Please let me know how you would like us to proceed in handing them over to you." She spoke, with a calm but firm voice, knowing just knowing that he wouldn't interrupt or do anything other than listen. That mindset was one thing she had been told about when interacting with the police. The other thing was to speak calmly but firmly and not stop until you had gotten everything important out because if you did get interrupted you wouldn't get a chance later. Of course this was the first time she had to put it into practice.

There was silence on the line as the officer considered which version of events he should believe. In the end, it didn't really matter
"The first caller said there was a hostage situation at the hospital. And they didn't mention any 'Zombies'" Martinez knew better than to rule out Blacklight's story. New York has seen its share of crazy shit throughout the years. Zombies wouldn't even make it to the top twenty. "We can get to the bottom of this later. Please tell everyone to exit the building through the main entrance, slowly, with their hands up. We're right outside the gate"

"Oh, man. They're going to send me straight back to Jovee" The crestfallen teen confirmed Harmonia's hunch, that he did, in fact, have something to fear from the police. At any rate, it was too late for him to make his escape
"Well, thanks for saving my life, I guess. I owe you one"

Harmonia doesn't hear what is been said on the other side of that phone conversation. She waits to be suggested what to do next by the other super humans.

"Yes officer, I understand. We'll be on our way out now, and I'll keep you on the phone so you know when it is us leaving and not any of the scattered gang members." She held the phone away from herself for a moment so she could take a relieved breath. Then speaking to the others though with the phone still on though not on speaker she said. "Alright, the police are here and ready to take charge of the situation. Harmonia you had best go last, we'll go first and take the remaining gang members and Doctor. Someone called in and said there was a hostage situation going on. I don't know if it was a worried citizen or one of the gang. But the Police are on edge." Despite the pressure and growing nervousness and responsibility Blacklight was trying to put up a strong face for the others with fake it till you make it a personal goal.

With that said she did one last 'sweep' of the building with her senses to see if any gangers remained inside or zombies she might have previously missed while giving the others a chance to speak up before starting on the way out.

"Right then, let's guide everyone out," Night Arrow says, following Blacklight's lead but looking after Zuri all the time. "I hope there is nothing going on at the hospital and that it's just a misunderstanding."

"How long do you think it'll take to sort things out?" She had hoped that after the police arrived she could go home and go to bed. Oh man, how embarrassing would it be if there had been an actual hostage situation on the other side of the hospital and they just hadn't noticed.

Mimic falls in line near one of the gang members. Having one of them make a break for it would make things worse.

The police were waiting for them outside the building, pistols drawn and aimed at the entrance. But once they saw everyone emerging safely, they eased off considerably. It would take a long time to sort everything out. Many of the teenagers had warrants pending and would need to be taken into custody. Some, like Zuri, were reported missing weeks or months ago, and their families would need to be notified. Others simply refused to identify themselves, which would make officer Martinez's work that much harder. As for Dr. Harris - he was arrested. The police had seen the damaged cadavers in the operating room, and though they couldn't fathom them being actual Zombies, Danny came forward and pretty much corroborated Blacklight's version of the story. Other boys followed his lead, and Officer Martinez finally had a good understanding of what had transpired. The last they saw of the Doctor, was him being shoved into the back of the police cruiser, hands cuffed behind his back.

"Thank you for your help" Martinez approached the group of teenage superheroes. He already decided against asking them to come to the station and give a full account of what happened. First, because he couldn't make them, but more importantly - they had his gratitude, and Martinez felt too much in their debt to disturb them. "We can take it from here" he hesitated a bit before asking his next question. He didn't want them to think they were suspects of anything "Is there a way for me to contact you, if there is ever a need to?"
