"Ain’t you boys glad you joined us?" Dirt says, finding himself taking a liking to the wild boys they’d roped into doing rope work.

"Hold this fella steady, and I’ll put him down!" Dirt says, chewing his words as he steps into the things space; trusting to the boys to hold him good.

He gets up close, and fires both pistols into the thing, hoping the reverend is right in matters of chemistry.
OOC:
Looks like shot two was a winner!

The engineer is Distracted and Vulnerable, but you don't have The Drop.
[ +- ] D&V
Dirts attack hits solidly but does no real damage, other than leaving the creature Shaken.

Just reloading then, waiting until next round to blast from point-blank range.
Aug 11, 2024 3:39 pm
At this point you're fairly certain that bullets aren't doing much at all to it, and likely nothing. Even when it's Shaken, it doesn't seem to have taken any damage whatsoever. Might as well be pissing in the wind as keep shooting it.

OOC:
In that case...
Moving closer as he reloads, the Reverend sees that the bullets are having no effect on the thing, and he casts about, looking for the general store or a butcher shop. "Rock salt! In the fiend's mouth! I'll fetch some, the rest of you hold that demon down!"
OOC:
Headed for the store if I spot one, hopefully there will be salt in a bin outside, and a scoop or bucket or some way to carry it...

Rolls

Athletics - (1d4-3, 1d6-3, RA)

Dirt puts his foot to the thing, hoping to add his weight to the posse’s as they hold it down!

As an alchemist I think Ruby would probably have some salt in her trunk.

"Hot damn! Well I ain't makin' no progress. Ruby. You're a mixer of things. Got any salt? If you have some, let's do what the Rev says and call him back."

Kane adds a boot to Dirt's to keep the fiend in check.

OOC:
As per my prior private note, I'm certain that Ruby has salt in her kit of sundry items of dubious use. If she does want to offer any, just go for it.

Why do I recall this very preacher, then an NPC, trying the old salt trick back at the church? Am I hallucinating?
Aug 13, 2024 5:56 am
OOC:
Huh, missed/forgot that, sorry! I figure it will take at least a round to get to Ruby's trunk, mix something up and get back. Making a Weird Science roll to concoct something that will be effective.
"Yeah, I got some in my trunk. Just hold him, it'll take me a minute to get it!" Thankfully Ruby stored her trunk at the ambush spot not far away from the train's engineering compartment. She rushes over and quickly rummages through for her bottle of pinkish salt crystals. Would garlic works against this thing as well like it does against vampires? Couldn't hurt! She grabs a few other ingredients that have any tangential relationship to undead or monsters and quickly mixes them together.

Dirt groans, frustrated as he tries to keep the thing from kicking free.

"He’s bucking something fierce!" he shouts to Ruby and the Reverend, as the thing writhes about.

It's a sprint! The Reverend vs Ruby, racing for rescue of the righteous remedy to reach their rocksalt and return to the roaring Night Train.

Who shall get to the salt first?

The Reverend would just like to quietly say that Ruby's got -something- in her trunk!

Should I be making a roll of some kind?

OOC:
If you wish to race, then Rev make an Athletics check to get to the store. Ruby has made a Weird Science check already, so she has set the bar.

Rolled above. Not so good with the -3!

Kane loads his shotgun while keeping a boot firmly planted on the fiend. He also covers Ruby and the Rev as they rush toward what could turn out to be the lethal remedy.

As the Rev stumbles off, spring up blood as he makes for the store, certain it will have salt, Ruby races off and grabs her trunk. A jar of brine and a bag of salt, along with a tincture of goofer dust and she's sure she's got a zombie killing concoction.

Meanwhile, the zombie engineer struggles unceasingly. It's strong as all get out but the five of you holding it keep it pinned.

There's a shriek from inside one of the two sleeper cars. There's more vampires afoot!

I'll let Ruby narrate the destruction of the engineer.

Ruby shakes the vial as she runs, creating a cloudy and foaming mixture, and she feels the pressure building under the cork she keeps firmly in place with a thumb. When she arrives she skids to a halt on the dusty ground. "I'd close your eyes, this might sting if you get any in them." She holds the vial over the engineer and removes her thumb. The cork shoots out with a pop! and the foaming mixture shoots out under high pressure. The foamy liquid spatters the undead creature and begind dissolving it as if it were hydrochloric acid. The stench is unbearable.
