For the sake of ease, why don’t we say that you are in one of these. It might not be a pontoon exactly, but it looks functional enough to give some cover and have other benefits.
Cold, and not ideal, but a reasonably good haven for the time being!
We have a pontoon boat very much like the middle pic. There is no shelter other than a Bimini top to protect from the sun and nothing below but pontoons. I suggest that we have a few that we rafted up together and maybe cobbled together shelters on each one. In general, a 20-foot pontoon can carry 11 people comfortably depending on the seat configuration. Hence the nickname, Party Boat!

Those look like river barges and might be a better idea as they do have living space beneath.
Lastly, I might have missed this, what's the climate like? You mentioned winter. Are we talking 6 feet of snow on average, a dusting, or something in between?
I thought it might be best to be winding up to winter! You’re starting to notice the chill now, but it’ll be a few more weeks before things really set in on you!
Just because it gives you some motivation to do some moving and scavenging before the hard months really come in. Just a taste to light a fire under your butts!
KCC, you okay with us having a stash somewhere off the water? Billie rolled a motorbike for gear, and I don't imagine we brought that onto the pontoon palace.
All this talk of tainted meat… Was it ever addressed, besides poor Bob? I seem to recall something about not eating a deer that had been chewed on! So I guess it is something to worry about!
Maybe that’s how your good friend, Angela Whitman, bit the dust! :(
