I frown at the interaction between JS and Skylar. If she's going to be texting, I'm going to as well.

I pull out my phone, keeping it low under the table, and I text JS:
Remember what we talked about.

JS reads the next text, expecting it's from Skylar. She reads your reminder and her shoulders slump as she types out her reply:
OK, Auntie Jooz. I'll be good.

She clicks her phone screen off and puts it in her little purse, giving Skylar an apologetic look before she pays attention to your veggie station again.
OOC:
And she takes another string on you.
What do you do?

I feel guilty making Fee walk away from what was clearly a fun conversation, and even more guilty because of what I just did with Will. My eyes flick toward the door, expecting to see him walk through any second. I chew on the inside of my cheek as I duck my head a bit too, turning back to the vegetables like they matter when Elena thinks I'm a terrible friend and JS thinks I'm a buzzkill. If I could just tell JS outright what I did with Will, I just know she'd be all impressed and starry-eyed. And if Elena knew I was shutting down dangerous flirting on the side, maybe she'd respect me a little more. Ugh, this sucks.

Ms. Korsgren leads the class through the stations and the My Plate lesson plan for the day. JS forces herself to engage with her mother and Elena, maybe to cover for you. Will never returns to class. The bell rings and everyone starts heading for the door.

"You're out for supper, right, Jay?" Soph asks as she shoves her notebook into her backpack.
Dec 4, 2024 7:09 pm
"Yeah, I'm going out with Kastor after school and we'll go pick up more of that spice mix at Acapulco later on." I pack my things up and keep alternating between looking at the door, the hallway filling outside with the class change traffic, and my phone, expecting to hear something from Will. "Why?"
Dec 4, 2024 7:18 pm
"I'm teaching, ah, Fee how to cook my world-famous Chicken Street Tacos with Corn-Jicama Salsa. Needed to know if we should make any para ti." Soph says casually as she slips her backpack on.

No text from Will.

"Oh man, I'm missing out on the world-famous Chicken Street Tacos?" I complain as I grab my things then head toward the hall with Soph. "Well, I'm sure they'll be better the second time she makes them anyway."

I glance down at my phone again, frowning, then text Will:
You never came back to class.

Will texts back:
Why bother? I got what I wanted.
Besides, I had something else I needed to do.
See you tomorrow.

"Hey, they'll be amazing the first time," JS insists with a grin before she ducks her head to push through the crowded hallway to her next class.
Dec 6, 2024 7:31 pm
"I'll save you some leftovers, just in case," Soph says. "I miss hanging out with you, Jay. But have fun with him anyways."
Dec 6, 2024 7:33 pm
Soph heads off to her own class, leaving you with Study Hall to end the day. When you head to your locker to drop off your books, you see on the top shelf a small envelope. Nothing's written on it, it isn't sealed. Feels like something's inside.

What do you do?

I'm surprised, and happy, and surprised I'm happy, when Will texts back. What else could he have possibly needed to do though?

I don't want to act too interested though, so instead I text back:
Chloe was disappointed.
See you tomorrow.

I wave to JS and promise Soph we'll hang out soon before she heads off. When I open my locker and find the envelope, I sort of look over my shoulder to see if someone's watching me, then, after making sure it doesn't have anything written on it, I open it up.

Nobody seems to be watching you. You turn back to the little envelope and open it to find a black pearl necklace inside. No note or anything, but you know this necklace - it's the one your dad gave you so long ago. The one you lost at the big rager.

What do you do?
Dec 7, 2024 2:43 am
When I see the necklace, I recognize it immediately and my heart swells. It shouldn't - Will is just returning stolen property. But it just seems so...sweet? It makes me wonder if I've already started to change him.

I dump the necklace out of the envelope and into my palm, rubbing my thumb over it before I put it on around my neck again. I look around once more, to see if Will's watching like in the movies, but then I need to grab my things and get to study hall...for my "reading."

The hallway buzzes with energy, the din of chattering students and slamming lockers filling the air. You weave through clusters of classmates, dodging a stray basketball and ignoring the laughter from a group of sophomores huddled near the vending machines. The fluorescent lights overhead flicker slightly, casting uneven shadows on the scuffed tile floors.

The closer you get to the library, the quieter it becomes, the boisterous noise of the hallways fading into a hushed murmur. You push open the heavy library doors, and the scent of old books and slightly stale coffee greets you. Inside, the space is dimly lit, with sunlight filtering through half-closed blinds, casting long, striped shadows over the tables.

The library is nearly empty, just as you expected. A pair of juniors sits in the far corner, whispering and giggling over a shared phone screen. At another table, a tired-looking girl scribbles furiously in a notebook, likely cramming for a test. Near the computers, a boy from the track team scrolls through an assignment with one earbud in, occasionally glancing at the clock as if counting down the minutes.

The librarian sits at her desk, her glasses perched low on her nose as she flips through a novel, clearly engrossed. She doesn't even glance up when you walk in.

You spot an empty table near the back, away from prying eyes. As you head toward it, your steps muffled by the thin carpet, you notice a lone book left abandoned on the chair. Its cover is brightly illustrated—some fantasy novel you vaguely recognize. Sliding into the chair, you take a deep breath, letting the calm atmosphere of the library settle over you. For now, at least, you’ve found a pocket of peace.

It's actually nice to be in the quiet of the library after such a hectic day. I take a deep breath and close my eyes for a few beats, just accepting the quiet into my soul. I find myself reaching up to feel the pearl necklace, telling myself there's no way Will actually did all the things he said he did with it while he had it.

Now that I have it back...I'm wondering even more about why he took it in the first place. Was he just being a stupid boy pulling the pigtails of the girl he likes in the middle of class?

I open my eyes and take a breath, absently picking up the book that was left behind here to check out the back cover.

You pick up the book, its glossy cover cool beneath your fingers. The artwork catches your eye first - a sprawling battlefield beneath a stormy sky, lightning forking toward a lone warrior wielding a gleaming spear. A title sprawls across the top in bold gold letters: Wrath of the Gods. Intrigued, you flip it over to read the back.

The blurb promises an epic journey:
"When the gods of ancient Greece awaken from their centuries-long slumber, they find a world that no longer reveres them - a world that has moved on. Olympus lies in ruin, and their powers are fading, leaving them vulnerable in a modern age they don't understand. But all hope is not lost."

"A young woman, born of divine lineage, discovers that the fate of the gods rests in her hands. With her reluctant allies - a brooding demigod, a trickster oracle, and a mortal warrior seeking redemption - she must navigate the treacherous new pantheon politics and uncover an ancient betrayal that shattered Olympus in the first place. Can they unite the warring gods and save both mortals and immortals before time runs out?"

At the bottom, there's a quote:

"A thrilling mix of ancient myth and modern fantasy, Wrath of the Gods will keep you turning pages until the very end." – The Mythos Review

As you ponder the book, you sense someone coming closer just before you feel the warm hand of Willow, aka Red, your little submissive friend. "Heyyyy Jules. Cute necklace." She moves to sit beside you at the empty table. "Weird sweatshirt, though."

As I read the book's pitch, my eyes widen. Is this...is this about me? Is this the gods I know in the world I know? Who wrote this thing?

Before I can check, Red appears and I look up, lowering the book down to my lap. Is there a character for her somewhere in these pages?

I clear my throat. "Hey. It's, uh," I glance down at the sweatshirt. I need to change out of this thing. "It's not mine. Look, I'm meeting Emmy and Talia here soon. I don't have time for...anything."
