I study him for a moment, the way the candlelight flickers in his eyes, the way his words feel like something more than just an invitation. I could say no. I could say we should rest, should be responsible, should wake up early and go back to the world where we don’t belong to myths.

But I don’t want to.

I smile, just a little. "Then let’s stay a little longer." My fingers drum lightly against the table, then I push myself to my feet, reaching for my wine glass as I do. "We’ll see if the sea glows. If the myths got that right."

I take a slow sip, savoring the last of the wine, then glance at him over the rim of my glass. "And if they didn’t? Then I guess we’ll just have to make our own stories."

Kastor steps up beside you, his hand resting lightly against the small of your back as he guides you out of the restaurant and into the warm Mykonian night. The streets are quieter now, the hum of laughter and music from the tavern fading as you move away from the village’s heart. The air smells of salt and sun-warmed stone, with a faint trace of grilled fish and citrus lingering in the breeze. He doesn’t say much at first, just walks with you through the winding alleys, his fingers grazing yours now and then as if debating whether to take your hand. Then, as the stone paths give way to sand, he finally speaks.

"There," he says, tipping his chin toward the water. The sea stretches out before you, dark and endless, the waves lapping gently at the shore. But there - just where the tide rolls in, something shimmers beneath the surface. Not bright, not like in the myths of the glowing Aegean, but there’s a faint bioluminescent glow, greenish and fleeting, like fireflies caught beneath the waves.

Kastor exhales softly, his fingers finally curling around yours. "The moon really does make the sea glow. Guess the myths got something right." He glances at you, "But I still like your idea better. Making our own stories."

Then, without warning, he tugs you forward, kicking off his sandals and wading into the water. "Come on, Jewels," he calls back, laughter in his voice.

What do you do?

The faintly glowing water is just another bit of magic in this place that makes me want to stay forever. It plants a kind of longing in my soul that I know will blossom into an ache whenever I am away.

I stand on the sand, watching as Kastor wades into the waves, and when he looks back, there's something so at ease in his expression that I can't help but laugh. It's this boyish excitement, this sense of adventure and exploration, he's just so...unburdened here. It unlocks something in my chest too and for this brief moment, all the worries of all the worlds we touch falls away. I kick off my sandals and rush into the waves after him, not stopping until I reach him and throw my arms around him, lifting my face to his for a kiss that steals the laughter from my lips and replaces it with pleasure and heat.

The two of you dance and play in the water of the Aegean and make love on the beach, with the moon above and the glowing sea beside you.
