Volume II: Prison Break

"I'll go with either group needs a person." She shrugs. "Just let me copy something useful before I get into a fight." She's not sure if splitting up is the best idea, but everyone else seems to be on board. She's not going to waste time by starting an argument.
Sep 18, 2024 9:56 pm
Appearing beside the group again, Reaper says, "I'm going in after the hostages. Blacklight, meet me there once you've delivered these three to the super holding cell. If your not too slow, maybe you can mop up." if you weren't feeling it before, a bit of anxiety starts to creep into the edges of your emotions. You recognize it as Reapers powers bleeding in, so it's easy enough to shake off. Especially once she teleports away again.
Blue Reaper takes hurried but calculated leaps with her ports. They don't know exactly where they are going beyond "the south building" and jumping in front of a firefight won't help anyone, but those visitors need help.

They cycle through possible options as they move. Fear is powerful and a comfortable tool, but if someone was twitchy they might pull a trigger. Anxiety, another emotion easy employed at the moment posed similar risks. Reaper could go the other way, Giddiness, Apathy or Euphoria might end the fight quickly, but those would be harder for them to call forth in the present situation.

Fear. It had to be fear if Blacklight was on the scene. Her shadow stuff was the perfect partner for fear. Reaper would get all the guns pointed in their direction, away from the hostages, and hope the criminals would freeze instead of fight, and trust in her porting to keep them from getting any new holes in their costume.

"Alright, everybody else is on keeping those super villains contained, once you're through I'll go help Reaper." She said. It wasn't a terrible plan or split so she didn't even try to object just get things moving before something went wrong. She formed a portal for the others to get them in place beside whatever defenders remained at the super's wing, or barring that just between the attackers and their target.

"Good Luck!"

Only after they were through did she turn her attention to the hostage situation looking for a place she could portal in without being directly in view of any of the hostage takers.

Wrecker and Mimic emerged from the shadowy portal, standing beside a gaping hole in the side of the building. Peering through, they could notice that every wall between their vantage point and the staircase had been utterly pulverized, leaving a scene of devastation in its wake. The guards must have displayed a rare sense of self-preservation; all smart enough to retreat rather than confront the supervillain responsible for the destruction. But as they ventured deeper into the chaos, they could hear the sharp cracking of gunfire echoing from the sublevel below them.

What do you do?

>>>"They definitely didn't take the subtle route..." Wrecker said as he traced the crumbling outlines of the shattered hole through reinforced concrete. "I wonder who they're after? And who's after who?" he mused as he stepped through the breach and looked around. "C'mon and stay behind me til you pick up something sturdy or bulletproof. Shouldn't have too hard a problem finding something. They take the construction of these containment cells pretty serious."
>>>Wrecker hurried between the shattered gaps in the walls towards the staircase, using the crumbling edges of the holes as cover. Stopping short in the room right before the stairwell, he looked over at a couple of vending machines that stood flickering in a shattered remnants of a visitors waiting room. "Just a sec..." he whispered to Mimic.
>>>Picking his way through the rubble on the floor, he stood in front of the snack machine before bumping it with his backside, shattering the front window. Reaching in, he piled on all the snacks he could lay his hands on. "What?" he looked at Mimic. "I wasn't at the game long enough to get a hot dog..." he mumbled, holding a bag of chips between his teeth. Satisfied he'd collected enough supplies for now, Wrecker moved carefully back towards the stairwell and tried to make sense of what was going on below.
OOC:
Wrecker is going to use Assess the Situation to see if it's safe to descend the stairwell.
2d6+Superior, iirc.

"I'll stay behind you anyway. I don't know my way around." In theory she could just follow the destruction, but she'd still be going in blind. Having him lead the way was just smarter. Mimic decided to go with concrete again. If it's not broke, don't fix it. And it worked pretty well last time. She concentrated for a minute and hurried to catch up once it finished.

She gave a small nod to acknowledge what he said, and raised an eyebrow when she saw what he was doing. "...As long as you can pay enough attention to not get us both lost while you eat." Mimic peers out at the stairs from behind him. "Why'd you stop?"
Sep 21, 2024 12:48 pm
Peering down the dimly lit stairway, it quickly becomes clear that the supervillains have a well-defined objective. The metal door three flights down lies crumpled on the ground, ripped from its hinges as if it were made of paper, while every other door stands untouched, and undamaged. The destruction of the one single door suggests purpose; the supervillains are not here by chance. They are hunting for someone—or something—very specific.

What do you do?
OOC:
Assess the situation doesn't allow you to ask this question, but just the same; you're chasing one, or several, supervillains capable of punching through walls. It's definitely dangerous.

>>>"Stop? Oh. I was trying to see if I could tell what they're up to or who they're after without putting my head in firing range. Probably wouldn't damage me but getting shit in the face hurts..." He nodded and started descending the stairs towards the ruined doorway three flights down. "Pretty specific to pick just this door to open. I think they're after someone in particular." he whispered to Mimic as they approached the door. "Lots of fun people down here..." he said sarcastically. "Hard to tell who could be important enough to make this kind of fuss to spring. Big Brain, Texas Twister, Molecule Max, Iron Rhino... I don't think it's any of those guys. They'd have to be plenty important to rate a jailbreak like this." He took a quick peek around the corner past the ragged hole where the door was & moved in if the coast seemed clear. "Y'know, some of the cells down here are made of bulletproof glass. If you morphed into that stuff it'd be really hard to see you down here with half of these lights out..."
Sep 23, 2024 7:31 pm
Wrecker and Mimic turn the corner just in time to see a big, muscular man in a black mask blast through another steel door - this one leading to one of the cells. The supersonic Shockwave from the explosion is almost strong enough to knock them off their feet - and it would have, if they were mere mortals. Aside from the man in the mask, and a couple of armed guards lying unconscious on the ground, was a teenage boy, not more than fifteen years of age. It was the boy who the man addressed, putting his heavy hand on his shoulder:

"Go on, you got this. I'll hold them off"

And with that, the man turned to face the two heroes, a determined look in his eyes.

What do you do?
Sep 23, 2024 11:28 pm
>>>"Oh, hey! I didn't know the WWE was in town..." Wrecker quips as he nonchalantly stuffed his face with chips from a very crinkly snack bag. "Can I get your autograph? I don't think I've gotten an autograph from a Jobber before...". He shoveled another handful of chips into his mouth.

>>>He looked over to Mimic and gestured with his eyes indicating for her to go after the kid. Wrecker clearly intended in handling the mook in black leather.
OOC:
Wrecker is attempting to PROVOKE 'Shockwave' into keeping his attention squarely on Wrecker by insulting the guy. A 'Jobber' is a low level, no name wrestler whose entire career is to lose matches.

She hesitates for a moment. They'd already split the group once, and she'd never been here before. But she couldn't just let the other one get away. Mimic nods back and starts trying to sneak away.

The man scowled, but before he would take care of the insolent teen, he had to make sure his client was out of harm's way. Once the boy disappeared into the cell holding one of the supervillains, he felt free to let loose with his powers.

"Come and get it!"

Extending his arms with his fists held tightly, the man created a pressure point traveling through the air at supersonic speed. The Wrecker heard the earsplitting 'whoosh' as he was knocked off his feet and sent flying a good ten feet backward, landing on the cracked floor and still holding on to the melted remains of what used to be a bag of chips.

"That was a warning" the man growled "Get out of here, kid, before you hurt yourself"
OOC:
@witchdoctor - mark a condition of your choice, and make a Move.
@MEGalodon - do you follow the boy into the cell?

>>>"Woo. Yep, that really packs a punch..." Wrecker stood up slowly. He wasn't really hurt, not physically anyway. He felt bad for just mouthing off to the guy right off the bat. Maybe he was just 'hangry', maybe just keyed up jumping into the middle of a prison break, maybe he was just being a hormone-driven teenage asshole... Standing up from the hit, Ronnie realized that this guy, whatever he called himself, could just as easily be his Dad or Granddad, or Great GrandDad. Just a guy. A guy doing a job because that what he does. He didn't have to warn him, didn't have to give him a chance to leave... He doesn't want more trouble than he's already in.
>>>"Hey, um...ThunderClap, what's so important to cause all this trouble huh? " Wrecker raised his hands to show he wasn't here to cause trouble...yet anyway. 'What's worth bringing AEGIS and NYPD and the Feds down on your head?"
OOC:
Ronnie will take Guilty. He shouldn't have insulted the guy right away. He'll take Pierce the Mask as his Move.
If Mimic wants to spend a Team as an assist and pump it up to 10, we could really find out a lot about what's going on and who they are.

"The man they're keeping there" Shockwave points to the opening in the wall that he created, beyond which lies the prison cell "- is a murderer. My client has a score to settle with him"
He levels his eyes back at the Wrecker, and gives him a short nod "We will be doing the world a favor, so stay out of our way. I got no beef with you"
Sep 25, 2024 7:21 pm
As Wrecker distracted the villain, Mimic slipped into the prison cell unnoticed. The space was anything but ordinary; behind the bulletproof glass was a middle-aged man, stretched out in an X position. His arms and legs were encased in bulky titanium, rendering him immobile and vulnerable. The stark, sterile environment was illuminated by harsh fluorescent lights, casting an eerie glow on the man’s expression, which seemed to blend defiance and dangerous nonchalance.

Surrounding the cell were numerous hazard signs warning of ‘high voltage’. In the adjacent security room, a computer panel offered a direct view of the cell. The teenager Mimic had been chasing stood there, fingers flying across the keyboard, his eyes darting between the screen and the cell, clearly focused on something crucial. Just as Mimic stepped into the room, he paused, his finger hovering hesitantly above the ‘enter’ key.

What do you do?

>>>"Oh, yeah yeah. I get that. It's a job but..." Wrecker lowered his hands slowly and sat on a big chunk of reinforced concrete that had fallen from the ceiling. "...like... isn't causing a giant prison riot creating just as much death and destruction as the guy in the cell caused to your boss ?"

>>>"I mean, this is all gonna fall on YOU, after all." Wrecker retrieved a singed but intact chip bag from the floor and opened it, the crinkly noise echoing in the concrete hallway. "Sure, your boss is gonna settle a score with a guy in restraints and a power damper but no one is gonna care about that. There's cameras everywhere down here and they are gonna pin all this destruction on you and you're gonna go down for it. Boss man in there is gonna skate because AEGIS can pin all this on you easier than they can on him and then it might be you down here in one of these cells with someone coming to even the score against you...". He held to open bag of chips towards Shockwave, "Is that worth a 30% take after the fence launders your payment? Hmm?" It kind of sounded like Wrecker was working some issues of his through talking to Shockwave.
OOC:
I think the Move here is Comfort or Support Someone if that applies? Wrecker is trying to empathize with Shockwave and maybe gain Influence over him through reason & empathy. Not sure if this exchange might trigger a Team Move:

Sharing a weakness or vulnerability
is letting someone else see the most
secret and vulnerable parts of yourself.
You’re telling someone your worst fears
or memories, your deepest desires, your
greatest insecurities. You could show it
to them, or you could tell them—either
way, so long as you’re sharing it, the
move triggers.

The other half of the team is fighting murderous rapey convicts and Wrecker is down here holding a therapy session 😂
OOC:
I'm going to use a Team Point and shift Danger down to 2 & Mundane up to 0 to get a 7 on the check.

Damn. That old guy must have done something really bad to be locked up like this. Letting him escape would not reflect well on her. And she'd have to fight two people alone. Forget stealth. The one she had been chasing was already at the computer. Mimic ran over and tried to grab the person at the computer. If she could yank him away from the buttons, then he'd be stopped from doing...whatever it is he's trying to do. Nothing good.

"No!!!" the teenager wriggled in Mimic’s hold, but he was no match to her supernatural strength. Dragged away from the control station, he yelled in aguish to the man out in the hallway "Shockwave!! HELP!!!!!"
Sep 27, 2024 11:02 am
"I never killed anyone who didn’t deserve it" Shockwave had a twisted sense of morality. Sure, he caused a lot of havoc and destruction, and some of the inmates who escaped didn’t hold life in the same regard as he did. But if They killed someone, that was on them, not him. As for Aegis: "I’m already a wanted man. At least the rent's free in prison"

The conversation was cut short by the call for help from the nearby cell. Giving Wrecker the evil eye, the man sprang through the opening in the wall, disappearing from the hero’s eyesight.
OOC:
@MEGalodon, Shockwave just entered the holding cell, and he looks mighty pissed. What do you do?
Sep 27, 2024 11:05 pm
Oh shit. She should have done something to keep him from yelling. Now there's going to be backup. She lightly tossed the person she was holding away from the computer. "Sorry." She didn't want to hurt him since it seemed like he hadn't done anything yet, but she needed both hands free if it was going to be a fight. Mimic moved to stand in front of the computer.
"You alright!" She yelled. If he'd knocked Wrecker out this would be a lot harder for her.
