11th of October, 2023. Westview high, Brooklyn

Almost everyone turned up for the Thunderbolts first game of the season. Westview was playing Brooklyn Tech, the rivalry between the two schools spanning decades and extending far beyond the football field. Positioned on the East River, Westview’s football field had a breathtaking view of the Manhattan skyline – the lighted windows of the high-rise buildings and skyscrapers created a shimmering tapestry across the night sky. The bleachers were already packed. The diehard fans of the Thunderbolts were wearing purple and gold, with the more enthusiastic of them painting their faces as well.

The game was about to kick off in a few short minutes. Students were hurrying to their seats from the concession stands, carrying hot dogs, cheese-smothered nachos, and folded-up banners.

Among them was Stacy Mulligan. Her online campaign to expel the Ogre from the school has been successful. The administration pulled him out due to numerous safety complaints from concerned parents. What’s worse – Stacy’s Instagram followers flocked to his neighborhood after she doxed him and organized a picket outside his home. His mother was adamant about her son going to school and leading a normal life, but she had to reconsider after a brick went flying through their kitchen window. Last everyone heard, the Blairs were selling the house, and moving to Montana. As always, Stacy was chaperoned by Lisa, the bootlicker following the haughty blonde like a suckerfish a shark. The last of the three Harpies, however, was on the field itself, getting ready to lead the cheerleading squad to encourage the spectators to ever louder and more enthusiastic roars for the home team.

As the Thunderbolts took the field, the entire crowd rose to their feet, the cheers rising to a near-deafening thunderous applause. It was only the first game of the season, but expectations were high from the team this year. Whatever was the outcome, the fans could at least expect a good showing, and an opportunity to unwind a bit and forget all about the heavy school workload and the upcoming exams looming over the horizon.

OOC:

A chance to interact a bit before we dive into the action. Feel free to describe where your character is sitting and what they are doing, and add any details and NPCs to the scene.

• @MEGalodon - Lauren is supposed to be friends with one of the other characters' high school persona (part of your playbook's relationship). Who is she? The two of you talked about going to the game together, and she is saving you a seat.

• Harmonia has let you all know her real identity. Would any of you attempt to approach her?

Aug 21, 2024 5:21 pm
Lauren had never cared much for football. But she had to admit she was getting a little excited. Everyone else's hype about it being the first game of the year was getting to her. She'd thrown on a purple light jacket, but now she was worried about being under dressed. Whatever. Lauren wasn't going to drive back home, change outfits and come back.

After getting some food from the concession stand, she spotted Hannah in the crowd and hesitated. No. They'd never hung out before. That was just asking for questions that she wasn't ready to answer. And she already had plans to sit with someone. Lauren started searching for a more familiar face.
OOC:
@Shorty Do you mind if Claire is the one saving Lauren a seat? Maybe they have some classes where they sit next to each other so they talk before class starts.
Aug 21, 2024 11:38 pm
Hannah wasn’t particularly interested in competitive sports, but she knew it was part of blending in with the humans she was sworn to protect. Attending the game was expected, so she went along with it, eager to observe and learn more about the lives of those around her. She wore a fitted blue shirt in the school’s colors that subtly highlighted her athletic build, paired with jeans that hugged her long legs perfectly. Despite her striking appearance, she chose not to draw attention, her ethereal beauty downplayed by her calm demeanor and the large glasses that rested on her nose. Her long hair was neatly braided, adding to the image of a quiet, unassuming student.

Hannah had come alone, hiding in plain sight was enough to keep her true identity hidden. As she blended into the crowd, watching the game with quiet curiosity, no one would suspect that she was Harmonia, the powerful heroine hiding among them to learn about humans.
Aug 22, 2024 2:49 pm
Min was in a slump, depressed ever since Ogre had been pulled from school and the state. Harmonia or Hanna had been nice, but she still wasn't sure if she should unmask to her yet, and the others, well the meeting later had been blink and you'll miss it short. They had barely had time to share proper contact information before they had to split up again, but at least they had a discord channel to chat on now, and one to contact the police that the police could use to contact them.

While she was dressed in her purple and gold track suit she wasn't really feeling up to cheering so found herself a place up near the top of the bleachers but away from the troublemakers where she could unobtrusively mess around with her phone. Alone in a crowd. Switching over to their group channel she sighed once more before typing.

"Hey are any of the rest of you stuck watching a boring football game?"

"Over here!" Claire waived to Lauren, once she spotted her heading toward the bleachers. She was sitting at the second row - right near the sidelines, but a little bit higher so the view wouldn't be obstructed by coach Cole and the rest of the players not currently on the field. She checked her phone real quick while Lauren was heading over, pursing her lips as she considered what to write back to the message on the shared discord channel. She already knew Harmonia/Hannah attended Westview, just like her, but what were the odds that Blacklight was too?? She didn't believe in coincidences, there was definitely something fishy going on here.

"It can't be" she typed quickly "Westview vs Brooklyn Tech?"
She quickly put her phone down when Claire approached, picking up the bag she set to save her seat "Heya. How's it going? I saved us the best seats in the house!"
Aug 24, 2024 2:42 pm
Hanna was used to being gawked at by the boys at school, but this was something different. She couldn't put her finger on it, but she just knew someone was staring at her. Someone dangerous. The back of her neck prickled, as if a chill slipped down her spine. She didn't spot who it was yet, only that it couldn't be anyone good.
Aug 24, 2024 5:15 pm
She waved back and checked her phone before heading over. Lauren was not responding to that. If they really are here she didn't want to know. Did none of the others care about secrecy? She wasn't ready to just..announce things. "Things have been good! Want some nachos?" She sat down. "This is a good spot. How have things been for you? I've just been doing the usual, you know?" Just the usual. She was completely normal. The lines would not get crossed.

To Skychan
Hannah: " I'm sitting in row 2, section A if you want to show yourself. I find it fascinating, it's like a social experiment gathering a lot of young humans with too much testosterones, screaming and releasing some stress. "

Hannah feels a strange, unsettling sensation creeping over her. She tries to shake it off, but something is definitely wrong. She doesn’t rely on her eyes to scan her surroundings—instead, she reaches out with her instincts, sensing the air for whatever might be causing this eerie presence. Despite her efforts, the source of the disturbance remains elusive, just out of reach, leaving her with a lingering sense of unease.

"Oh, I really shouldn't" so much salt, and oil and cheese in those nachos. Still, she could afford to have some; she was probably in a calorie deficit after all the extensive workout she did every day. She scooped one up, biting into it and talking with her mouth full "Umm...so bad they're good!!!" she rubbed the crumbs off her hands, and waited for the clamor to quiet down after the kick off "Yes, same here. Say; did you pair off for Ms. Hannaford's Social Studies project yet?" Lauren was smart, and a good student; there wasn't a teacher in school who didn't like her. She was just the girl she wanted to do the project with. Anyone else, and Claire will end up gossiping for most study-session instead of doing some serious work.
Aug 25, 2024 3:17 pm
Harmonia reaches with her senses and finds the source of the disturbance. It is someone sitting on the bleachers, not too far behind her.
Will she risk taking a look?
Aug 28, 2024 11:27 am
Harmonia is confident and doesn't hesitate to turn back and keep her cool even if what she is going to see would be impressive or unpleasant.
Aug 28, 2024 11:55 am
The man staring at Hanna/Harmonia from two rows behind her was Mr. Pitzer. The chemistry teacher looked darker and more sullen than his usual, with dark rings around his eyes and an unkempt beard. No one was ever exactly comfortable around him, but right now, he was even more off-putting than he was teaching class. And the way he looked at her - it was even worse than some older creep checking her out. There was a feeling of malice in his eyes. And something else. something horrible wrong.

Pitzer kept on looking at her even after she turned her head around, staring at her for what seemed like eternity before he finally rose and started walking down the row of seats, retreating slowly out of her sight.

It took a moment, perhaps suspiciously long before the reply came.

No, Chasers vs Robbers (professional teams playing a game in the city today), My father insisted on bringing us out to watch.

She wasn't sure that would be believed but maybe it would mask her unthinking mistake. She does however start looking for Hanna to see who else she might be sitting with. A bit curious about the other super hero's public life.

Harmonia is not reassured by Pitzer's demeanor, but she didn't had cause to intervene. Yet she will let know the group that something is wrong with the teacher.

The game got off to a bad start; the Thunderbolts were trailing seven points after the opening drive, and their first possession ended with a fumble. Brooklyn Tech had a formidable defense, and despite a few long gains and determined efforts, the Thunderbolts were unable to close the gap till the very end of the second quarter.

The crowd still remained hopeful that the home team would overcome the deficit and shift the momentum in their favor. Cameron tried to squeeze a few extra plays with the short time they had on the clock, throwing the ball to the receivers on the sidelines so they can step out of bounds and stop the timer.

Lauren, who hadn't been paying too much attention to the game thus far, had barely a split second to react before one of the players, who lunged toward the sidelines to secure the catch just inches from the out-of-bounds, would smash right into her after skipping over the first row of seats.
OOC:
@MEGalodon What would Lauren do? She's strong enough to push the two-hundred fifty pound player aside, if she wants to. Or quick enough to get out of the way.
Sep 8, 2024 11:36 pm
Maybe she should have cared more about the game. But people lunging at the stands wasn't normal. Next time she's going to stick to watching the sports she likes. Like basket ball. Lauren dove out of the way. She didn't bother trying to save what was left of the nachos. Whoever the player was could take getting some nacho cheese on the uniform.
Sep 10, 2024 4:29 pm
"Sorry" the player that somehow managed to end up twenty feet away from the football field offered his hand to help her to her feet, before realizing that Lauren was quite alright, and didn't need his assistance "Right!" he looked at his own nacho-stained uniform, and then back at her "Catch you later!"
Sep 10, 2024 4:30 pm
"Pff. Can’t enjoy a quiet evening without something happening" Claire, who also promptly got out the way, didn’t sit back down. She looked agitated, more that she probably should over losing their food. "I’m going to go buy us more nachos from the concessions. Save my seat for me OK?" she waited just long enough for Lauren to nod before hurrying down the row of seats, stopping only to check her phone before disappearing into the crowd of people.

We got a little situation at Rikers island. Getting reports about a massive break-in. Officers down, and suspected Supers involvement. We alerted AEGIS, but we could really use your help.

This was the first time Officer Martinez ever texted you on the shared Discord Channel. The 'little situation' must be completely out of control if he was so desperate as to ask for help from a bunch of teenager superheroes.

What do you do?
Sep 10, 2024 7:16 pm
>>>"Pfft. Show off..." Ronnie said from the bleacher row just behind and above Lauren after Claire had went in search of more nachos. "I think he's hitting on you or the blonde girl..." He put his hands behind his head and stretched, seemingly a bit bored. Now blocking the view of the six people behind him, he looked down at Lauren, "Gotta watch out for guys like that, y'know. Real smooth, that type..."
Sep 10, 2024 9:39 pm
"Sure he was." At least he'd apologized. She sat down and waved at Claire when she ran off. Lauren hesitated for a moment, but eventually decided to check her phone. The chances of another player crashing into her again were pretty low. She stands up to leave and puts her jacket across both of their seats. Hopefully that would keep anyone from taking their places.

Blacklight sighed. She wasn't sure if she was grateful for the excuse to get away from the football game or not. But either way she felt they would need to do something. At least it was at night so it would be easy enough to transport herself and the others if they could be gathered quickly enough. Responding she posted twice first to the police and then to the team she had been working on pulling together to the discord.

Will respond, getting the team together

This is it, why I tried to coordinate things, I'll be able to be near Westview high's home lot in about five minutes, if everyone can meet up there I can get us to Rikers quickly. If you need an alternate pick up let me know.

With that said she got up and left, being at the top end of the bleachers was a little annoying as she had to get down and out of view but after that it was a simple matter to portal home, throw on her costume and portal back to the school. She even almost made her five minute mark in just four minutes. Checking her phone again as she stepped into the lot, now with the case swapped out, she looked to see if anyone on the team had even responded yet online before looking around to see if anyone was there in person yet.

Reaper spams a line of seemingly senseless emojis to the officer's request for assistance, but there are a lot pig and bacon occurrence in the short reply. It might only make sense to them.

To the hero chat they reply:
Too slow girl scout. Beat you here. Lot is a little public. Im on the roof across the street. (Skull & blue flame emoji)
Sep 13, 2024 11:56 am
Whimsy has sent a simple answer to both chats:

OMW.

A moment or two after Blacklight arrives, Whimsy is there seemingly appearing out of thin air. "Hey Blacklight. Hope you were having a good evening before this."
Sep 13, 2024 1:14 pm
>>>The three little dots at the bottom of the Discord scintillated for a bit as it said: "WRECKER is typing". That seemingly went on forever before resolving.
I'M COMING.

>>>By the time it'd sent, he was already standing in the parking lot looking around for the black portal.
Sep 13, 2024 7:57 pm
Blacklight gave Whimsy a smile and nod. "Oh you know, I was just stuck watching a stupid football game. Not that one though." She added with a nod toward the school stadium, even if that latter bit seemed a little pro-forma. As always the otherworldly beauty had her staring for an extra half second before she could get back to business. As she saw the Wrecker arriving she gave him a wave, and the figure on the roof across the street got some rolled eyes. She wasn't sure if he could see or not but body language is a language for a reason.

Checking her phone again she said, "I hope Mimic can make it or responds soon we can't risk waiting too much longer for her." She looked a bit worried and anxious at the lack of response so far.
Sep 13, 2024 10:13 pm
"Trouble on Riker's Island, huh?" Wrecker said as he walked up. "I wonder who's breaking who out?" Wrecker's 'costume' consisted of a simple domino mask that did little to disguise his identity as Ronnie Ryckowski. "Been there more than a few times visiting family so, um, where are you gonna land this portal?"
Sep 14, 2024 12:45 am
Mimic rushed over from the direction of the bathrooms, still tugging on her wig. "Looks like everyone's here. I got into a bit of an accident before leaving. Did the officer send any more information?"
Sep 14, 2024 5:26 pm
The gathered heroes feel a presence, familiar to them, but no one sees who it is right away. "Family, Wrecker? You might be cooler than I thought." an invisible voice says.

A moment later Blue Reaper leans out from behind the nearby minivan, they crouch low and use their staff as a balance. "You're going to get seen gathering like this, out in the open. If you're trying to keep everyone from making a connection to the school you need a better place to meet. We need a headquarters."

"But that can be a tomorrow problem. Let's bounce fearless leader.

The heroes stepped through the swirling darkness of the rift in space to find themselves standing on the cracked asphalt just outside the prison’s formidable walls. The tumult of the scene immediately engulfed them; the night sky was lit with the flickering light of explosions, and a distant, pounding of gunfire cut through the heavy smoke pouring out from several buildings, punctuated by the wail of sirens that seemed to pierce right through the ear-splitting commotion.

High above, police helicopters hovered above them, their searchlights slicing through the smoke and illuminating the swirling chaos below.

What do you do?
Sep 15, 2024 2:10 pm
As soon as the scene comes into view Reaper takes off, running a few steps toward the closest wall.

"I'll recon. Someone find out where we are supposed to be so the cops don'tshoot us."

With that the grim hero vanishes, reappearing crouched at the top of the wall.

>>>"Cool isn't what I'd call it. Prison's not all it's cracked up to be, y'know..." Wrecker said a bit defensively as he waited his turn to step through the portal. "Woah! Yeah, somebody's making a big breakout...or hosting one big fireworks show!' he remarked as the chaotic scene came into view. "It's not usually this lively on Visitation Days..."
>>>He scanned around the scene, trying to see where the chaos was thickest, hoping against hope that it wasn't in the Supers Wing. "Riker's is kind of a grab bag of prisoners. Some are here on minor charges but some aren't. If you run into anyone in an orange jumpsuit, don't just unload. Not everyone here is a violent offender but be careful." He pointed to the general areas as he called them out, "There's the General Population wings, there's Administration and Visitation and that... that's where they contain the Supers." It was pretty clear he had a good idea of the layout of the prison; from the outside, at least.

She started to look around for any nearby cops when she stepped out of the portal. "Maybe we can just ask- she's already gone." Mimic sighs. "I'll only use force if they won't listen to us. Maybe you should be the tour guide."
Sep 17, 2024 12:15 pm
>>>"We probably need to lay low and try not to get mixed up in the riot or breakout." Wrecker cautioned. "We don't wanna get mistaken for inmates or for 'aiding or abetting' whoever is behind all this." He thought of a way to get closer to the action without being too obvious, given the current attention being focused on the prison instead of around it.
>>>His concern was split between the Team and for his Dad. His internal thoughts ran in a short, continuous loop *please, Dad, don't be in on this...*

Blacklight took a moment as she was opening portals to send a message to the police.
Quote:
We'll be arriving momentarily. Where do you need us?
When the arrived she nodded to the reaper and answered. "I've let them know we're coming and they did invite us. Let us know what you find." For her part she looked through the shadows, trying to locate either someone in authority or if the situation was already too far gone where they needed to go to help out, focusing on the super's area when Wrecker pointed it out.

"We'll be arriving momentarily. Where do you need us?"
"Everywhere!"

There was a short pause as Martinez typed something. His initial response was hardly surprising, considering the chaotic situation. The explosions, and constant staccato of gunfire, all conveyed the gravity of the situation better than any text message. His next communication, however, confirmed the Wrecker's worse fears:

"All the prisoners are loose. Multiple causalities. Guards and visitors have been taken hostage. They are heading straight to the supers sublevels!!!!"

"Well shit..." Blacklight mutters. "We'll need two groups, one to stop the breakout of supers and one to rescue hostages. I think I would be better going for the hostages, how else should we split?" She looks to the rest to see who will come with her and who will try to keep a bigger problem from getting loose.
Sep 18, 2024 8:07 pm
The hostages are at the RNDC. That's the building at the south of the island

Sure enough, that's where most of the gunfire is coming from. The prisoners must have gotten hold of firearms, and were using them to pin the police and the guards behind cover. There were more than a few armed gangs of prisoners roaming around the island, shooting indiscreetly at any targets as they made their way to Rikers Island bridge under the cover of darkness. Those were likely the most immediate danger, the greatest being the supervillains Martinez eluded to. If what he texted them was correct, they were heading to the fortified building at the eastern edge of the island, the one used to contain criminals with super powers. Gaining access to it was easy at this point - there was a large section of the wall missing, the three-foot cement bulwark blasted into smitheries. Though if Blue Reaper REALLY wanted to get there fast, she could just teleport herself inside any of the main buildings.
Sep 18, 2024 8:24 pm
>>>"I'm not sure I'd be anything but in the way going after the hostages..." Wrecker said flatly. "That calls for the kind of delicate work Ol' Ham-hands isn't cut out for." he recognized his limitations but internally lamented the fact that saving people was something Heroes did and he didn't feel like he fit that mold. "Let me handle the team trying to let loose the villains. I think that's more my speed. Do you think you could open up a portal to get me to the Containment building pronto, Boss?" At least there he didn't think he could do significantly more damage than had already be done

"I'll go with either group needs a person." She shrugs. "Just let me copy something useful before I get into a fight." She's not sure if splitting up is the best idea, but everyone else seems to be on board. She's not going to waste time by starting an argument.
Sep 18, 2024 9:56 pm
Appearing beside the group again, Reaper says, "I'm going in after the hostages. Blacklight, meet me there once you've delivered these three to the super holding cell. If your not too slow, maybe you can mop up." if you weren't feeling it before, a bit of anxiety starts to creep into the edges of your emotions. You recognize it as Reapers powers bleeding in, so it's easy enough to shake off. Especially once she teleports away again.
Blue Reaper takes hurried but calculated leaps with her ports. They don't know exactly where they are going beyond "the south building" and jumping in front of a firefight won't help anyone, but those visitors need help.

They cycle through possible options as they move. Fear is powerful and a comfortable tool, but if someone was twitchy they might pull a trigger. Anxiety, another emotion easy employed at the moment posed similar risks. Reaper could go the other way, Giddiness, Apathy or Euphoria might end the fight quickly, but those would be harder for them to call forth in the present situation.

Fear. It had to be fear if Blacklight was on the scene. Her shadow stuff was the perfect partner for fear. Reaper would get all the guns pointed in their direction, away from the hostages, and hope the criminals would freeze instead of fight, and trust in her porting to keep them from getting any new holes in their costume.
Sep 19, 2024 1:59 pm
"Alright, everybody else is on keeping those super villains contained, once you're through I'll go help Reaper." She said. It wasn't a terrible plan or split so she didn't even try to object just get things moving before something went wrong. She formed a portal for the others to get them in place beside whatever defenders remained at the super's wing, or barring that just between the attackers and their target.

"Good Luck!"

Only after they were through did she turn her attention to the hostage situation looking for a place she could portal in without being directly in view of any of the hostage takers.

Wrecker and Mimic emerged from the shadowy portal, standing beside a gaping hole in the side of the building. Peering through, they could notice that every wall between their vantage point and the staircase had been utterly pulverized, leaving a scene of devastation in its wake. The guards must have displayed a rare sense of self-preservation; all smart enough to retreat rather than confront the supervillain responsible for the destruction. But as they ventured deeper into the chaos, they could hear the sharp cracking of gunfire echoing from the sublevel below them.

What do you do?
Sep 20, 2024 11:50 pm
>>>"They definitely didn't take the subtle route..." Wrecker said as he traced the crumbling outlines of the shattered hole through reinforced concrete. "I wonder who they're after? And who's after who?" he mused as he stepped through the breach and looked around. "C'mon and stay behind me til you pick up something sturdy or bulletproof. Shouldn't have too hard a problem finding something. They take the construction of these containment cells pretty serious."
>>>Wrecker hurried between the shattered gaps in the walls towards the staircase, using the crumbling edges of the holes as cover. Stopping short in the room right before the stairwell, he looked over at a couple of vending machines that stood flickering in a shattered remnants of a visitors waiting room. "Just a sec..." he whispered to Mimic.
>>>Picking his way through the rubble on the floor, he stood in front of the snack machine before bumping it with his backside, shattering the front window. Reaching in, he piled on all the snacks he could lay his hands on. "What?" he looked at Mimic. "I wasn't at the game long enough to get a hot dog..." he mumbled, holding a bag of chips between his teeth. Satisfied he'd collected enough supplies for now, Wrecker moved carefully back towards the stairwell and tried to make sense of what was going on below.

"I'll stay behind you anyway. I don't know my way around." In theory she could just follow the destruction, but she'd still be going in blind. Having him lead the way was just smarter. Mimic decided to go with concrete again. If it's not broke, don't fix it. And it worked pretty well last time. She concentrated for a minute and hurried to catch up once it finished.

She gave a small nod to acknowledge what he said, and raised an eyebrow when she saw what he was doing. "...As long as you can pay enough attention to not get us both lost while you eat." Mimic peers out at the stairs from behind him. "Why'd you stop?"
Sep 21, 2024 12:48 pm
Peering down the dimly lit stairway, it quickly becomes clear that the supervillains have a well-defined objective. The metal door three flights down lies crumpled on the ground, ripped from its hinges as if it were made of paper, while every other door stands untouched, and undamaged. The destruction of the one single door suggests purpose; the supervillains are not here by chance. They are hunting for someone—or something—very specific.

He nodded and started descending the stairs towards the ruined doorway three flights down. "Pretty specific to pick just this door to open. I think they're after someone in particular." he whispered to Mimic as they approached the door. "Lots of fun people down here..." he said sarcastically. "Hard to tell who could be important enough to make this kind of fuss to spring. Big Brain, Texas Twister, Molecule Max, Iron Rhino... I don't think it's any of those guys. They'd have to be plenty important to rate a jailbreak like this." He took a quick peek around the corner past the ragged hole where the door was & moved in if the coast seemed clear. "Y'know, some of the cells down here are made of bulletproof glass. If you morphed into that stuff it'd be really hard to see you down here with half of these lights out..."
Sep 23, 2024 7:31 pm
Wrecker and Mimic turn the corner just in time to see a big, muscular man in a black mask blast through another steel door - this one leading to one of the cells. The supersonic Shockwave from the explosion is almost strong enough to knock them off their feet - and it would have, if they were mere mortals. Aside from the man in the mask, and a couple of armed guards lying unconscious on the ground, was a teenage boy, not more than fifteen years of age. It was the boy who the man addressed, putting his heavy hand on his shoulder:

"Go on, you got this. I'll hold them off"

And with that, the man turned to face the two heroes, a determined look in his eyes.

What do you do?
Sep 23, 2024 11:28 pm
>>>"Oh, hey! I didn't know the WWE was in town..." Wrecker quips as he nonchalantly stuffed his face with chips from a very crinkly snack bag. "Can I get your autograph? I don't think I've gotten an autograph from a Jobber before...". He shoveled another handful of chips into his mouth.

>>>He looked over to Mimic and gestured with his eyes indicating for her to go after the kid. Wrecker clearly intended in handling the mook in black leather.
OOC:
Wrecker is attempting to PROVOKE 'Shockwave' into keeping his attention squarely on Wrecker by insulting the guy. A 'Jobber' is a low level, no name wrestler whose entire career is to lose matches.

She hesitates for a moment. They'd already split the group once, and she'd never been here before. But she couldn't just let the other one get away. Mimic nods back and starts trying to sneak away.
Sep 24, 2024 7:20 pm
The man scowled, but before he would take care of the insolent teen, he had to make sure his client was out of harm's way. Once the boy disappeared into the cell holding one of the supervillains, he felt free to let loose with his powers.

"Come and get it!"

Extending his arms with his fists held tightly, the man created a pressure point traveling through the air at supersonic speed. The Wrecker heard the earsplitting 'whoosh' as he was knocked off his feet and sent flying a good ten feet backward, landing on the cracked floor and still holding on to the melted remains of what used to be a bag of chips.

"That was a warning" the man growled "Get out of here, kid, before you hurt yourself"
OOC:
@witchdoctor - mark a condition of your choice, and make a Move.
@MEGalodon - do you follow the boy into the cell?

>>>"Woo. Yep, that really packs a punch..." Wrecker stood up slowly. He wasn't really hurt, not physically anyway. He felt bad for just mouthing off to the guy right off the bat. Maybe he was just 'hangry', maybe just keyed up jumping into the middle of a prison break, maybe he was just being a hormone-driven teenage asshole... Standing up from the hit, Ronnie realized that this guy, whatever he called himself, could just as easily be his Dad or Granddad, or Great GrandDad. Just a guy. A guy doing a job because that what he does. He didn't have to warn him, didn't have to give him a chance to leave... He doesn't want more trouble than he's already in.
>>>"Hey, um...ThunderClap, what's so important to cause all this trouble huh? " Wrecker raised his hands to show he wasn't here to cause trouble...yet anyway. 'What's worth bringing AEGIS and NYPD and the Feds down on your head?"
OOC:
Ronnie will take Guilty. He shouldn't have insulted the guy right away. He'll take Pierce the Mask as his Move.

"The man they're keeping there" Shockwave points to the opening in the wall that he created, beyond which lies the prison cell "- is a murderer. My client has a score to settle with him"
He levels his eyes back at the Wrecker, and gives him a short nod "We will be doing the world a favor, so stay out of our way. I got no beef with you"
Sep 25, 2024 7:21 pm
As Wrecker distracted the villain, Mimic slipped into the prison cell unnoticed. The space was anything but ordinary; behind the bulletproof glass was a middle-aged man, stretched out in an X position. His arms and legs were encased in bulky titanium, rendering him immobile and vulnerable. The stark, sterile environment was illuminated by harsh fluorescent lights, casting an eerie glow on the man’s expression, which seemed to blend defiance and dangerous nonchalance.

Surrounding the cell were numerous hazard signs warning of ‘high voltage’. In the adjacent security room, a computer panel offered a direct view of the cell. The teenager Mimic had been chasing stood there, fingers flying across the keyboard, his eyes darting between the screen and the cell, clearly focused on something crucial. Just as Mimic stepped into the room, he paused, his finger hovering hesitantly above the ‘enter’ key.

What do you do?
Sep 26, 2024 12:58 am
>>>"Oh, yeah yeah. I get that. It's a job but..." Wrecker lowered his hands slowly and sat on a big chunk of reinforced concrete that had fallen from the ceiling. "...like... isn't causing a giant prison riot creating just as much death and destruction as the guy in the cell caused to your boss ?"

>>>"I mean, this is all gonna fall on YOU, after all." Wrecker retrieved a singed but intact chip bag from the floor and opened it, the crinkly noise echoing in the concrete hallway. "Sure, your boss is gonna settle a score with a guy in restraints and a power damper but no one is gonna care about that. There's cameras everywhere down here and they are gonna pin all this destruction on you and you're gonna go down for it. Boss man in there is gonna skate because AEGIS can pin all this on you easier than they can on him and then it might be you down here in one of these cells with someone coming to even the score against you...". He held to open bag of chips towards Shockwave, "Is that worth a 30% take after the fence launders your payment? Hmm?" It kind of sounded like Wrecker was working some issues of his through talking to Shockwave.
OOC:
I think the Move here is Comfort or Support Someone if that applies? Wrecker is trying to empathize with Shockwave and maybe gain Influence over him through reason & empathy. Not sure if this exchange might trigger a Team Move:

Sharing a weakness or vulnerability
is letting someone else see the most
secret and vulnerable parts of yourself.
You’re telling someone your worst fears
or memories, your deepest desires, your
greatest insecurities. You could show it
to them, or you could tell them—either
way, so long as you’re sharing it, the
move triggers.

The other half of the team is fighting murderous rapey convicts and Wrecker is down here holding a therapy session 😂

Damn. That old guy must have done something really bad to be locked up like this. Letting him escape would not reflect well on her. And she'd have to fight two people alone. Forget stealth. The one she had been chasing was already at the computer. Mimic ran over and tried to grab the person at the computer. If she could yank him away from the buttons, then he'd be stopped from doing...whatever it is he's trying to do. Nothing good.

"No!!!" the teenager wriggled in Mimic’s hold, but he was no match to her supernatural strength. Dragged away from the control station, he yelled in aguish to the man out in the hallway "Shockwave!! HELP!!!!!"
Sep 27, 2024 11:02 am
"I never killed anyone who didn’t deserve it" Shockwave had a twisted sense of morality. Sure, he caused a lot of havoc and destruction, and some of the inmates who escaped didn’t hold life in the same regard as he did. But if They killed someone, that was on them, not him. As for Aegis: "I’m already a wanted man. At least the rent's free in prison"

The conversation was cut short by the call for help from the nearby cell. Giving Wrecker the evil eye, the man sprang through the opening in the wall, disappearing from the hero’s eyesight.
OOC:
@MEGalodon, Shockwave just entered the holding cell, and he looks mighty pissed. What do you do?
Sep 27, 2024 11:05 pm
Oh shit. She should have done something to keep him from yelling. Now there's going to be backup. She lightly tossed the person she was holding away from the computer. "Sorry." She didn't want to hurt him since it seemed like he hadn't done anything yet, but she needed both hands free if it was going to be a fight. Mimic moved to stand in front of the computer.
"You alright!" She yelled. If he'd knocked Wrecker out this would be a lot harder for her.
Sep 28, 2024 1:41 am
>>>"Ah, crap..." Wrecker slapped his knees and got up to follow Shockwave into the cell. "Yeah, I'm fine. You okay?" he checked in with Mimic, trying to take in the situation as quickly as he could.
>>>"No need to get hostile, there Thunderclap... We just want to understand why all of this is important enough for all this chaos. "
Sep 28, 2024 1:29 pm
The teenager struggled back to his feet, after being tossed by Mimic like a rag doll. He was only human, and no match for the two superheroes. Begging for them to listen to his story was his only option:

"That monster" he pointed at the man behind the bulletproof glass "murdered my mother. He snapped her neck like a twig" the boy took a deep breath to calm himself, his fingers rolling into a fist "He killed so many people, and they have him here, locked up, instead of giving him the electric chair. Someone has to do something about him"

And by something, he meant, snuffing the villain's life "You have any idea how many prisons that man escaped from? Why are they taking a chance with him?!?!"
Sep 28, 2024 1:31 pm
"Don't worry, little man. I will do something about him"
Ignoring both Mimic and Wrecker, Shockwave lifted his hands and pointed them at the man behind the glass, charging up his most powerful blast yet.
Sep 28, 2024 1:34 pm
The villain's limbs were encased in titanium. There was nothing he could do to escape the blast. Yet, he only smiled sardonically as he watched the four behind the bulletproof glass.

What do you do?
Sep 28, 2024 3:42 pm
Wrecker hadn't been paying too much attention to the inmate in the cell, his attention being focused on Shockwave, Mimic and the unknown teenager. As soon as the unknown teen aired his grievance and pointed at the man being held in the cell, the world sort of just stopped for a moment...held in a sort of timeless expanse.

>>>A thousand emotions warred inside Wrecker's mind during that timeless pause in the universe. Randall Ryckowski was a convicted criminal, thief, opportunist, murderer and who knows what else...but he was also Ronnie's father. No matter how Ronnie felt about his father, in as much as he even knew then man, he couldn't let this teenager just murder someone.
"No." Wrecker interposed himself between Shockwave and the senior Wrecker. "Killing isn't the answer. Believe me, I know how bad this guy is but murdering him isn't going to bring anyone back or right any wrong he's done.". He looked right at Shockwave, "You said you never killed anyone that didn't deserve it...
This guy may deserve it but how many people think the same about you? Under different circumstances, that could be you up there and someone else where you're standing."
OOC:
There's only one Move he could possibly make if Shockwave fires... throw himself in front of the blast.
Not sure if that falls under Take a Powerful Blow or Defend Someone. But currently, he's trying to de-escalate the situation. Not sure what move that falls under, though.
Sep 29, 2024 12:34 am
Oh great. Both of them seemed pretty determined. Her personal feelings on the death penalty didn't matter. She hadn't been on that jury. She's not even old enough to be called in for jury duty. They seem to be really caught up in this guy escaping other jails.."And if you can't kill him, and he escapes?" If she wanted revenge, what would argue her out of it.."Besides, wouldn't getting a long drawn out punishment like being locked up like that be better revenge than something quick like death?"
Sep 29, 2024 7:19 pm
"She has a point, kid" Shockwave lowered his arms, the build up of energy that caused their hair to rise began to subside "Look at him" he pointed at the caged man "Imagine spending the rest of your life like that. Not able to wipe your own butt. Or scratch your nose. Nothing to do but stare blankly into space. Killing him would be doing him a favor"
Sep 29, 2024 7:27 pm
Although Shockwave was pointing right at the villain encased in metal, he was too engrossed in conversation with the teen to notice the small crack forming on the titanium wrapping the convict's arm. That tiny crack quickly grew into a fault line, a fissure snaking up the metal casing.
Oct 1, 2024 2:21 am
Wrecker breathed a sigh of relief as Shockwave stood down. "I don't think things are gonna go well for you, My Dude. Not with causing all this chaos and damage." he looked at the kid behind Mimic. "Where'd you come up with the cash to pay ol' ThunderClap, here, to break you into this place? And what were you doing with that computer, huh?" Kid must be some kinda Trust Fund baby to afford all that AND have the Intelligence resources to pull this off. Not just anybody can break into Riker's alone a whim...

"I was going to fry that @!$%er" The teenager looked behind the Wrecker's shoulder at the computer monitor. If he could just find a way to distract him, he could hit the kill switch - the fail-safe measure they put in place in case the supervillain tried to escape "Shockwave. I paid you to do this job" the teenager stomped his feet in frustration "Why are you talking with them?!?!?"
Oct 1, 2024 1:33 pm
"Kid; you might have paid me, but you don't owe me" Shockwave stopped to consider what was the best course of action. On the one hand, there was a lot of money at stake, and the supervillain did deserve to die if anyone ever did. On the other hand, he would have to fight the two superheroes, and though he was pretty confident in his abilities, he had no idea what they were capable of. Decisions decisions... Metal screeched violently when the metal prison that had confined the Wrecker for far too long finally succumbed to his brute strength. Flexing his massive muscles, he tore apart the reinforced metal that had held him captive. The once-impenetrable titanium contraption crumpled like paper, shards flying as he burst forth into freedom.

Barefoot, he leaped out of the wrecked tomb, the floor beneath him splintering under his weight.

Almost at once, red lights flickered to life in every cell, hallway and control room, an ominous wail of sirens piercing the air all across Rikers Island.

What do you do?

"Oh, crap." Well, they didn't need to worry about the computer anymore. She'd take that over this honestly. It just seemed like they were making progress convincing the other two to leave. Now it looks like he might end up getting killed anyway. Keeping him alive wasn't the issue anymore. The real problem was keeping this guy in. >>>That mystery was cleared up as soon as the man broke through the holding cell and stepped out. "Dad?!?" was all he had the mental bandwith to say. Instinctively, he moved to put himself between the Elder Wrecker and Mimic, the kid and Shockwave.
Oct 6, 2024 5:00 pm
There were very few people alive who could take a punch from the Wrecker and live to tell the tale. His son was one of them.

The elder supervillain didn't care about punching the lights out of his own flesh and blood. His son put himself between him, and the people who tried to kill him. He made his choice, and now he was going to pay for it.

The mighty reverberating 'thud' sent Wrecker Junior flying right through the adjacent wall. A mortal man would have broken every bone in his body, but the teenage superhero was made of sterner stuff. He was dazed, and bruised, lying next to a pile of concrete bricks, but still breathing, and very much still in the fight.
OOC:
@witchdoctor - mark 1 harm.
@MEGalodon - there is a thick power cord connected to the contraption the supervillain broke out of. As the teenager alluded to, it could have been used to deliver a shock of electricity strong enough to 'fry' a mortal man. Mimic can yank the power cord, but she should be careful handling a loose electrical cable.
@Greel - describe how Blue Reaper arrives at the scene, and can make a Move.
Oct 6, 2024 5:17 pm
Reaper blinks into existence a few feet from The Wrecker (the Younger). Finding her teammate on the ground was a surprise, but given the obvious path of destruction, the situation seemed plain enough. Turning to the older man Reaper shouts, "Play time is over old timer. Back in your cell or things will get ugly. Uglier, I suppose" They follow this with a wave of fear, hoping to subdue the brute.

>>>"...ow..." Ronnie felt all the power his Dad had put into that punch. Pieces of concrete and cinderblock still rained down on him as he skidded to a halt in the hallway. Ordinarily, a hit like that and it'd take him a bit to get back up but, in this case, he had to scramble to his feet and get back in there before his Dad tore through Mimic, Shockwave and that stupid kid like a hurricane through toilet paper.
>>>"Hey." he nodded to Reaper as he climbed back into the room through the hole he'd made a moment earlier. Between himself, his Dad and Shockwave there were enough heavy-hitters in the room to probably collapse the rest of the cell block and trap them all inside...along with anyone else being held down here.
>>> Again, he interposed himself between his Dad and the others. "Hold up there, Pops... Keep that up and you'll bury us all down here.
You included."
he said, taking a defensive stance this time. "But I'm not letting you hurt anyone else here just like I won't let them hurt you, Pops." Ronnie was unaware of Reaper already reaching out her psychic influence towards Wrecker, Sr.
OOC:
There's several Moves here that could trigger here. Ronnie could try to PROVOKE Wrecker,Sr. to stand down. Defend Someone if he lashes out again or Take A Powerful Blow in case he throws hands again...
He's under the Guilty Condition from his interaction with Shockwave earlier so that puts him at a -2 for Provoke. So, not a good option here.

Maybe Comfort or Support is the right move here.
Try to soothe his Dad & calm him down. That's +Mundane, better odds than Provoke so that's what I'll go with.

The Wrecker looked blankly at the blue Reaper. For a fleeting moment, uncertainty flickered in his eyes. Ripper's fear-inducing powers was starting to penetrate his tough exterior, but instead of retreating back to his cell as ordered, he made a sudden, defiant decision. He leaped - high into the air, shattering the ceiling above him in a spectacular explosion of debris.

He was gone, leaving only a cloud of dust and chaos in his wake. But the real danger was just beginning. With a thunderous crash, the entire ceiling collapsed, and massive chunks of metal and concrete plummeted on top of the heroes' heads- a deadly avalanche threatening to bury them alive.
OOC:

Sorry @witchdoctor, need to resolve one move at a time.

The Wrecker (Senior) marks the 'afraid' condition and has chosen to try to run away.

Mimic and The Wrecker (Junior) can't be harmed by the falling debris, and are probably strong enough to dig their way through. The same can't be said for the teenage boy, Shockwave, or Blue Reaper. If either of you wants to save the NPCs, roll a 'Defend' Move. Blue Reaper - you can try to get out of the way by teleporting in the nick of time (roll to 'Unleash your Powers').

He'd like to say he was surprised by his Dad's sudden, spectacular exit...but really it was almost what he expected. The disappointed, longing look at the hole Wrecker,Sr. made in the cell roof turned to horror as the whole structure started to cave in. In that moment, he saw Reaper vanish just as quickly as she'd appeared and the dawning terror on everyone else's faces. Without hesitation, he went to work trying to save Shockwave and the Kid. Mimic could be as tough as she needed to be; he trusted her experience and powers to get her out of such a tight spot. He hoped she felt the same about him. Blacklight stepped through her portal, emerging on the eastern side of the prison just as a figure exploded out of the crumbling facade behind her. The man soared through the air, his body propelling itself several dozen feet above the ground, defying gravity as debris rained down around him. He landed with a heavy thud on the grass just outside the prison's perimeter, the impact sending a tremor through the earth.

She caught his grim expression as he straightened up, his harsh glare illuminated by the searchlights from the hovering helicopters. He was dressed in tattered orange jumpsuit - and it was impossible to mistake him for anything but an escaped convict.

What do you do?
OOC:
@skychan - you can make a Move.
Oct 11, 2024 3:58 pm
Given that he apparently just jumped THROUGH the ground Blacklight doesn't have any delusion of trying to fight him physically. At least she wouldn't if she weren't so angry about being shot at by assholes who should know better than to put innocents in danger, and here is another one of those assholes. Obviously he's whoever the attack on the prison was meant to free. She wasn't going to let that happen. "I don't think so buddy you are not getting away!"

Of course she was smart enough not to try and physically grab him but now in the crazy quilt of shadows that was the ground just outside the prison he was in her territory. Dozens of arms of darkness reaching out to grasp at him, pick him up, pull him, hold him, or at least that was the intent when she began.
OOC:
Blacklight is going to selfishly use the last point of team, increasing her danger and reducing her Freak as she lashes out in her anger. This adjusts the roll to end on an 8 rather than a 6. Shes going to take away his chance to run by having entangled him in so many grasping tentacles of darkness

Mimic pushed the boy into Wrecker’s arms just before the torrent of collapsing debris descended upon them. As the dust settled, Wrecker was trapped beneath a mountain of concrete and steel. He was unharmed, as were Shockwave and Carl – both of whom were pinned tightly between his body, and the floor.
OOC:
@witchdoctor – choose one:

• add a Team to the pool
• take Influence over someone you protect
• clear a condition
Oct 13, 2024 7:40 pm
Shadowy tendrils snaked around the Wrecker’s legs while Blacklight watched from a distance. She was fully aware that this was merely a temporary measure to slow the supervillain down; the man’s sheer strength was too formidable for her dark tendrils to hold him for long.

Looking at her with deadeyes, the Wrecker summoned every ounce of his rage and determination. A deafening thunderclap echoed through the air as the rock he picked up and hurled at the helicopter hovering above them tore through the sound barrier. The moment it struck, a violent explosion of metal and debris erupted from the tail of the aircraft, sending it spiraling downward uncontrollably as the searchlight attached to the helicopter swung wildly, casting erratic beams of light.
OOC:
@MEGalodon – you can climb out of the wreckage and make a Move.
@skychan - the Wrecker marks the 'angry' condition.
Oct 15, 2024 9:02 am
"Everybody okay?’ he asked reflexively. "Try and stay calm. Once this stuff stops settling, I'll try and get us out." Wrecker flexed a bit to give everyone a bit more room in the space beneath him. He kept an even tone, as if this kind of thing was a regular occurrence for him, to help keep Shockwave and the Kid reassured.
"You okay, Mimic?" he called out to his teammate. She was, quite literally, just as tough as the reinforced concrete and steel the cell was made from but that didn't really stop his concern. At least his Dad wasn't still out there with her. THAT would've concerned him more than the tons of debris sitting on top of him.
OOC:
Hm. All of those choices sound good. It'd be nice to put Team back into the pool since I used the lion's share of it. Taking Influence over Shockwave or the Kid would definitely make sense and probably be fairly handy at some point. Clearing his Guilty condition would definitely make sense given that he just saved Shockwave's life.

I think choosing Taking Influence over Shockwave is the way to go. Seems like a good, dramatic thing to do.
Oct 15, 2024 6:25 pm
"I'm fine! I'm going to try to get myself out from here if you've got things handled with those two." She began carefully pushing rubble aside. Pausing every time something shifted. If she messed up it might rebury her. Mimic quickly looked around at the situation once she was able to climb out. The helicopter falling was not good, but she didn't know how'd she'd be able to help with that. It seemed like he was restrained for now. She could try to tackle him. It was better than doing nothing. Or she could be a distraction. She could start throwing pieces of rubble at him. He was restrained for now, but once he got out hopefully it would have been annoying enough for him to not think straight.

"...we’re okay," Shockwave huffed from beneath the Wrecker. Though he was tough enough to withstand the falling debris without serious injury, the sheer weight of several tons of concrete and steel pinned him down, leaving him unable to pull himself free.

He was grateful, however, that the enormous load didn’t seem to faze the teenage superhero any.

"Think you can clear all this weight off us?"

@MEGalodon - the 'engage a threat' Move didn’t get triggered, but you can try another way to harm or contain him. Feel free to use the environment if you like, adding any narrative details that would help you accomplish that goal. And let me know which option you choose for your hit.

@Greel - you can make the next Move, after Mimic
Oct 16, 2024 5:29 am
"It's not tte first time a building fell on me..." Wrecker tried to sound positive but at the moment he was also regretting that bag of FunYuns he ate earlier. Maybe not as much as Shockwave or the Kid regretted it however. "Let's see if I can shift this stuff up so you can get out safely. I'll lift this junk high enough for you two to crawl out. If I just stand up, all this stuff will shift around me and crush you guys." Wrecker pushed up gently and slowly to avoid shifting the smaller, yet still heavy, pieces of debris to allow Shockwave and the Kid to crawl out of the rubble pile.
OOC:
Not sure if I need an 'Unleash' here or just go with the narrative...
Oct 17, 2024 7:00 pm
"HE’S GETTING AWAY!!!!"
Carl cared more about the escaping supervillain than his own physical safety. The vein in his neck popped as he screamed at shockwave at the top of his lungs: "DO SOMETHING!!!!"
Oct 17, 2024 7:02 pm
"You should count yourself lucky being alive, kiddo" Shockwave, for his part, started crawling on his elbows through the tight space Wrecker cleared for them. When he saw Carl wasn’t following, he yanked the teenager by his wrist, pulling him behind him. A short minute later they were gone, out of the collapsed holding cell and into the still intact hallway.
OOC:
@witchdoctor, no, no roll required.
@Greel, make your move. And then any of you can take the next one.

Blue Reaper watches in horror as the helicopter starts spinning out of control. The panic in the pilot's mind is a glaring beacon to use. It's means leaving the fight to the others but saving lives is the point of all this.

Reaper teleports up to the cockpit doing their best to adjust for the rotation of the craft, but they come out of the Astral plane in an awkward position anyway, sprawled across the pilot's lap. Straining against the fabric of reality, Reaper allows the occupant's panic to fill their own mind and create a link allowing the hero to drag everyone back through the mindscape, hopefully moments before impact.
OOC:
Perhaps an Unleash?

Rolls

Blue Reaper: DEFEND - (2d6+(-1)+(0))

(33) - 1 = 5

Oct 19, 2024 7:16 pm
Blue Reaper feels a wave of vertigo wash over her once she teleports into the helicopter's cockpit. The world outside was spinning uncontrollably as the helicopter spiraled downwards uncontrollably, despite her desperate attempts to regain control. With a thunderous impact, it crashes into the building, erupting in a brilliant orange fireball that illuminates the night sky. The flames that consumed the wreckage licked the sides of the structure, the fire quickly becoming a raging inferno.
OOC:
@Greel: Blue Reaper made it out in the nick of time, together with a very nauseated pilot. Describe how the experience affects you and mark a condition. And a potential.
Oct 19, 2024 8:04 pm
Reaper struggles to get back on their feet after that experience. The problem with traveling through the Astral Plane with someone else was keeping all the thoughts separate while focusing on the target. When it's just two brains, it's easy. A third, unexperienced mind reaches out like someone drowning.

The pilot couldn't help but think about being with their family in that moment. Their mind was full of regret and wishing they had lived a better life. It wracked Reaper's focus as their thoughts ran into each other. It made the hero want to be with family, their own or the pilot's.

Crashing back into reality left Reaper feeling lost. Like maybe thos wasn't the right way to use these powers. It left them feeling very Insecure.
Oct 22, 2024 7:53 am
>>>'Yep. I think I can shift this stuff and get us out now that Junior is out of the way..." Ronnie adjusted his body and let the larger blocks of debris through the pile that would've hurt the kid but not Wrecker or Shockwave. Slowly, he pushed his way up and out, eventually throwing off the heavy beams that landed across back and freed them both. "You better hope Junior doesn't make you the fall guy in all this..." he said to Shockwave as he stood up and made his way into the corridor and upwards to the surface. "Ordinarily, they'd probably get really mad if I didn't try to at least apprehend you but, honestly, I've got bigger fish to fry right now. So...like, take care of yourself. Yeah?"
Oct 22, 2024 12:41 pm
Wrecker climbed out of the wreckage to witness his father fighting off the rest of the team. The shadowy tentacles that coiled around his body, and the concrete slabs hurled at him by Mimic, only served to distract him for a few short seconds – and infuriate him. He could have probably made his escape at this point, and maybe he would, later, if things got too dicey. Right now, he was set on doing only one thing- punishing the upstarts who dared to put themselves in his way.
OOC:
Wrecker marks 'insecure'
@witchdoctor - you can make a Move.
Oct 22, 2024 2:53 pm
Blacklight still stood a fair way clear of Wrecker, a look of concentration on her face as she actually appeared to be gesturing from time to time, something she didn't normally do at all with her powers but it seemed she needed the extra effort just to try and inconvenience Wrecker with how quickly and easily he could tear her shadowy tentacles free. For now it seemed she was making little progress each new tentacle replacing one lost and he hadn't really focused on escape only tearing free of one or two shadowy limbs at a time, so for now so as strange as it seemed there was a moment of equilibrium in the struggle. Of course it was a balancing act that couldn't last long.
OOC:
post just for flavor!
Oct 25, 2024 8:14 am
>>>Wrecker, Ronnie, stopped at the cracked entrance to the surface as he saw the rest of the team trying to stop his Dad. The crash if the helicopter and the flash of it delivering snapped him out of his momentary fugue. He didn't want to fight his Dad but he couldn't not fight him either. His Dad was dangerous and apparently unpredictable right now.
>>>Ronnie ran to the scene as fast as he could over the rubble-strewn terrain as he tried to think of how to handle the situation. If it were anyone else, he'd go in swinging. Provide a target, if nothing else, and let Blacklight or Mimic or someone smarter figure out what to do. But this time, it wasn't just anyone he was going up against... "Woah, woah, woah!" he called out, interposing his big frame between his team and his Dad. "Hey, don't throw this chance away. Don't let em charge you with attempted escape when you're this close to finishing your sentence... It's not your fault. Let us take you in and explain what happened." He plead with the senior Wrecker, unsure of the outcome but he couldn't let slip by the opportunity to at least try to reach out to him.
OOC:
I think the Move here is Provoke. Ronnie is trying to get the senior Wrecker to turn himself in. Let's see how this goes.

Rolls

Provoke (+Superior) - (2d6+1)

(45) + 1 = 10

Oct 25, 2024 7:28 pm
"Take me in?" The Wrecker's raspy voice sounded like gravels chaffing against each other "No. I'm done appeasing maggots" he looked with open disdain on the people fleeing away from the havoc

"We're not like them, son. This world can be ours. All we have to do is reach out" he extended his open hand and clenched it into a fist "- and take it"
OOC:
Sorry; Wrecker senior can't be provoked into going back to prison.
What do you do?
Oct 29, 2024 8:41 am
>>>With the option of surrendering off the table, there's really only one recourse left...and it's one that Ronnie really doesn't like. Wrecker, Sr. simply cannot be allowed to go free.
>>>Before he even realized what he was doing, Ronnie had leapt into the air at his father and slammed his fist down on the man. The force of the blow driving Wrecker, Sr. into the ground, hampering whatever escape plan the convict had in mind.
OOC:
Good Roll! That should give Ronnie two choices.
I think Avoid Blows and Create an Opportunity for Teammates .

Rolls

Unleash your Power - (2d6+2)

(63) + 2 = 11

Oct 30, 2024 8:18 pm
Wrecker Sr got up from the man-shaped hole in the ground with an ugly sneer on his face. He was holding back until now, but no more. If he had to break every bone in his son's body to escape, then so be it.

The older man drew back his fist, muscles coiling like a spring, and then unleashed a devastating punch that connected with the hero's midsection. And then Wrecker Jr was gone, hurled backward by the momentum of the supernatural force through one building after another, leaving a trail of dust clouds and debris as he found himself resting on the the ground on the other side of the island!
OOC:
Wrecker marks 'hopeless'.
The punch is part of the villain's own move (villains make moves whenever they mark a condition).
@witchdoctor - Take 1 harm, and roll for 'taking a powerful blow'
Any hero can make the next move, Wrecker Sr is considered distracted, so you have an opening.
Oct 31, 2024 10:41 pm
Blacklight was still angry and seeing the results of a physical fight still thinking far better than trying for a punch up with Wrecker. Instead as he tore loose of her darkness and clocked his son Through a building she decided to try another approach. If physical force didn't mean much, what about fire? Tendrils grapsing at the burning wreckage she...

Grabs as much of the crumbling helecopter as she can but it's far too structurally unsound and the flames fairly drip off it and fail to come with the rest, as it is what scattered parts do actually make it as far as Wrecker are little more than an annoyance not even managing enough to be a distraction to the man.
OOC:
Yup, directly engage instead of unleash hurt the roll instead of 8 I get a 6. :) Maybe if Blacklight wasn't currently angry status she would have thought of a better plan but I'm doing my best to roleplay that out. At least there isn't anything mechanically negative about failing a move that I've seen so far, just a lost opportunity. Sorry guys, your intrepid leader isn't being intrepid or much of a leader at the moment.

Directly engage - would have liked unleash but unfortunately I think this is more appropriate - (2d6-1)

(61) - 1 = 6

Nov 1, 2024 3:30 pm
"My son has gone soft while I've been away, if he counts on his 'friends' to save him" Wrecker Sr pats his orange clothing to put out the fire - which was as much annoyance Blacklight managed to inflict on him "Killing you would be doing him a favor"

Barefoot and brimming with menace, the Wrecker advanced on Blacklight. Slowly at first, then with a sudden burst of speed, he charged at her, muscles tensing as he prepared to unleash a swing that would break every bone in her body...
OOC:
blacklight - mark another condition.
unless someone stops in to Defend you, you too will take a powerful blow
Nov 1, 2024 7:19 pm
Seeing Blacklight's attempt to stop the old man has drawn his attention to her, and knowing she can't take a punch like Wrecker can, Reaper ports in and attempts to push her teammate aside and use her martial arts training to redirect the fist so it misses.
OOC:
Well it was a long shot.

Blue Reaper: DEFEND - (2d6+(-1)+(-2))

>>>Ronnie landed, or more accurately 'came to rest', imbedded upside down in a rubble pile that used to be a guard shack a couple of football field lengths away from where he'd been just a moment ago. "Ow..." his ears were ringing from that hit and he'd lost one of his boots. He tumbled himself out of the pile of crushed cinder block and rebar, the dust coating him in a ghostly shade of pale gray.
>>>If his dad wasn't going to hold back on him, he sure wasn't going to do so with Mimic, Reaper or Blacklight... With grim determination, he sprinted back towards the combat as fast as he could.
OOC:
Ronnie still has the Guilty Condition from earlier so that adds a +1 to the roll. Let's see how this goes.

7... I think I'll choose to give him 2 Conditions. Angry and maybe Insecure. He's definitely ticked off at his Dad but also knows he's not really a match for his power & experience just yet and that might get someone hurt or killed.

Wrecker really did intend to kill her. If one of his punches was enough to send her teamate flying several hundreds of feet, it was probably strong enough to punch right through her. Not probably, as a matter of fact. But definitely.

Blacklight closed her eyes and waited for the inevitable blow, but instead was tossed sideways by the space-twisting Blue Reaper. The Wrecker's fist pummeled the ground instead, the impact sending a cataclysmic shockwave with enough sheer force to cause the earth to crack and splinter, sending debris - and the two heroes, flying upwards into the air.

The very ground buckled and heaved, and the massive crater spread out like ripples in the water. The nearby prison buildings trembled, cracks forming along the walls. The windows shattered, and the cars parked in the parking lot flipped and rolled sideways - away from the massive epicenter of the impact.

Blacklight, Mimic, and Blue Reaper found themselves on the ground, dazed after being knocked off their feet. Wrecker Sr, however, was already climbing out of the massive crater, admiring his handiwork even as he searched for the annoying 'pests' that dared to stand in his warpath.

What do you do?
Nov 15, 2024 5:19 pm
Shaken by the near death experience Blacklight shuddered and took the gloves off. There was one place she hadn't ever really sent someone with a portal before, hadn't ever really planned to either, but with Wrecker being what he was she was willing to give it a try. He was strong, he was tough, and she definitely wouldn't beat him in a fair fight, so why fight fair. She pulled open a portal, and then another, and another, and finally a fourth all in quick succession, none of them would achieve her need alone, but with four she hoped that Wrecker would make a mistake. As the portals opened water from the bay began pouring, no blasting through them. More than enough to throw a regular man off his feet, but Wrecker was hardly a regular man. And as she finished the square of portals around him she only hoped he forced his way through one of them not realizing her real goal wasn't attacking with the water, but to trick him into passing through one of the portals into the dark shadows beneath the bay where he wouldn't be able to fight a lack of air and she could retrieve him once he fell unconscious.
OOC:
Of course... a 5, well that's why I didn't describe her doing the smart thing and closing the top and then bottom of the box as well, had to leave the villain an out after all :P

Unleash her powers - (2d6+1)

The water erupted from the man-sized portals in violent jets. The torrents of seawater surged over the island's surface, flooding the ground and reaching the heroes' ankles within a few short seconds. Steadily, the water level rose, as more and more water continued to flow from the depths of the ocean.

The powerful geysers shooting outward from the portals meant that the Wrecker was in no danger of being sucked in. He was unfazed at the center of the chaos, ignoring the crashing waves coming from all directions that were rapidly turning the island into a waterlogged battlefield.
OOC:
The portals were opened, and though the Wrecker is in no danger of being sucked into one of them, he could be forced through.
The water flooding the area through the portals could become a complication, and a danger to any bystanders still in the vicinity, if the fight doesn't end quickly.
Nov 19, 2024 7:49 pm
>>>The others had held the elder Wrecker at bay long enough for Ronnie to race back to the battle. Regretting the loss of his boot, he nonetheless hurled himself back into the fray. Blacklight had opened warps to somewhere underwater and the salty torrents held the supervillain at bay but that wasn't likely to last long. The only way to end the battle before anyone got hurt or killed was to put the elder Wrecker through one of those portals... And Ronnie was the only one who could do it.
>>>Picking up speed and momentum, Ronnie leapt at the swamped figure in the middle of the ice cold streams. He collided with Wrecker amidst the torrential spray, transferring his own momentum into the elder Wrecker.
OOC:
Ronnie is trying to knock or push Wrecker through one of the portals. I feel like Directly Engage would be the best option. That's +Danger and he hasn't got any Conditions that detract from it, so let's hope the Die Roller is feeling generous today...
8 is a Hit. One choice, so I think Create an Opportunity would best fit the bill for pushing Wrecker, Sr. into & through a portal. Sound good?

Rolls

Directly Engage (+Danger) - (2d6+2)

(33) + 2 = 8

Nov 20, 2024 3:38 pm
Wrecker jr charges across the flooded battlefield and slams into the supervillain like a linebacker. The collision is explosive, sending Wrecker Sr flying backward, hurtling right through the dark portal. He disappears into the abyss leading to the very bottom of the ocean. The portals flicker and then wink out of existence, leaving no trace of his fate.

The heroes remain standing amidst the wreckage of a battle that left Rikers Island a warzone. A massive crater, charred remains of a helicopter, and debris scattered all across the soaked grounds. The air still buzzes with the faint echoes of helicopters hovering above, and of police sirens in the distance. There might still be other escaped prisoners roaming free on the Island, but now that the main threat have been contained, they could likely be picked up by the police without too much hassle.

What do you do?
Nov 20, 2024 10:18 pm
Blacklight falls to her knees but keeps her focus on where she portaled Wrecker Senior to. It wasn't really the bottom of the ocean, just as far and as deep as she could see, and keeping her attention on him was hard but necessary. So when she spoke it was in a tight tone as she did her very best to retain that focus and not lose track of him. She didn't want to become a murderer. "How long can he hold his breath?" The question coming out roughly as the adrenaline in her system slowly began to wear off.

>>>"I...really don't know." Ronnie said hollowly. Whether from exhaustion, injury or maybe the dawning realization of what he'd just done, Ronnie just felt numb. He couldn't let his Dad hurt or kill anyone but the man just wouldn't stop... Someone had to stop him. He just didn't want it to be him that did it.
>>>"We did what we had to do." he dragged his sleeve across his nose, wiping away the trickle of blood flowing underneath. "Where'd you send him?"
Nov 21, 2024 5:26 pm
"He's at the bottom of the bay, I'm trying not to lose track of him, but I don't know how long he can hold his breath or if he will get to the surface before he runs out of air. I just knew we couldn't actually fight him." She answered nervously. "If I see him stop moving I'll try to pull him back, but I don't know what else to do."

But it was only moments later that Blacklight blinked and then said "Shit..." Looking back over to the others she tried not to look too chagrined as she explained. "I lost track of him, he's well, gone, out there, somewhere..." Waving towards the bay and the ocean beyond it.

Just as the situation seemed to be finally stabilizing, the heroes were jolted by a deafening explosion. Its source - a massive, fiery orange inferno consuming the southern tip of the island. The raging fire seemed to engulf the entrance to Riker's island bridge - the sole access point connecting the island to the mainland.

What do you do?
Nov 30, 2024 9:13 am
>>>"That can't be good..." Wrecker said rather obviously. "C'mon. Let's see if we can help. That firehouse portal thing you did a minute ago might be really handy putting this blaze out! "he called to Blacklight as he started towards the blazing bridge at a trot that turned into a run.
Dec 2, 2024 3:06 pm
Already tired, but trying not to show it Blacklight began to jog after him. Fire, she hated fire, it made a mess of her ability to see darkness, the flickering nature made shadows unreliable for travel, and of course it burned. Give her nice steady modern lighting any day.
Dec 2, 2024 6:33 pm
Blacklight and Wrecker arrived at the bridge, now completely engulfed in flames, to find a group of armed prisoners slowly retreating in desperation. They had originally intended to use the chaos as cover to make the crossing, but the growing inferno and the looming threat ahead had made that impossible. Just as they began to consider turning back, a figure emerged from the blaze, his silhouette dark and imposing against the fiery backdrop.

Clad in pitch-black armor and a menacing face mask, the very sight of the Scourge sent the convicts into a panic. Without hesitation, they dropped to their knees, hands raised high in submission. Those who hadn't immediately recognized him were swiftly corrected by their more seasoned comrades, urging them to surrender - and to do so as quickly as humanly possible.
