You've spent the last couple days relaxing on Iso-one, enjoying the spartan hospitality that a black market tech ship offers. Norta, the Rodian manager of the station approaches your table and slides into a chair.

"Ken, I have to say, it's been a lot more interesting since you started working with us. I was doing some research on your request for a stealth field. I'm sure you know the current stuff on the market just barely works. It's too fragile for real combat and can't cope with the noise levels of real armor. But every now and again, you hear about someone that's dug up some antique stealth field that's the real item. Full invisibility and total silence. The last one we've heard about came out of the Corporate Sector, or rather the region just beyond it. There's a half-dozen planets on the edge of the Corporate Sector inhabited by the Ocsin. One of the planets, Ocsin, is known as a jumping off place for wild space. The Ocsin have scouts that routinely travel out and find or rather, re-find old worlds. Rumor has it, that a place called Fananeen has some kind of cache of old tech. I'm giving you this info, in case your interested in checking it out. If it pans out, we'll buy anything extra you bring back. Oh, and from that 'pirate salvage' you guys brought in a couple weeks ago, here's 15k. He lays a cred chip on the table.

OOC:
We got 5,000 at the end of the last session, plus 15,000 now. Was that 5,000 for all of us to split, or was it 5,000 each? Just trying to make sure Creds' has his creds right.
Sep 13, 2024 1:06 pm
OOC:
The 5,000 at the end of the mission was each. The 15,000 was from loot they brought in during the mission before you joined. It was supposed to be split 3 ways, but the other player wandered off.
Sep 13, 2024 1:35 pm
OOC:
Ah, gotcha. So Creds won't expect to take a cut of that.
"Fananeen, huh? I expect you'd find a buyer for any other tech you brought back." He gestures toward the cred chip. "Might be even more of that if you maybe had someone on board who specializes in buying and selling. By someone, I mean yours truly, of course."
OOC:
We haven't established a longer-term relationship yet beyond the first mission, so trying to establish one now.

Ken is trying his hardest to look indifferent to the suggestion. 'Oh, thanks Norta, we might think about that...' He's clearly chafing to head off at once after the elusive stealth field but manages to raise one leg against a bench and place a hand on his hip. 'Sounds interesting guys, you fancy going after some antique tech in the Corporate Sector?' He picks up the cred chip and tosses it in the air. 'Could be lucrative, and with your help Creds maybe even more than that...' He snatches the chip out of the air and slams it back down on the table. Anyone looking closely can see he's breathing more rapidly than normal. He's excited, he really wants a stealth field - I'd be legendary with something like that!

"I do not think I can pass up such an opportunity! New and upgraded tech options, credits, new locations. Is there a downside we are not being told about?" AD-hoc says with all the excitement that Ken was hiding
Sep 17, 2024 9:32 pm
'Presumably everyone else who wants all that old tech and is willing to kill for it,' Ken says to AD-hoc. 'Unless we blast them first.'
Sep 17, 2024 9:53 pm
"Ah, so someone in our group will likely be shot at again"
Sep 17, 2024 11:19 pm
"I may need to do some shopping for some, ahem, thicker duds."
Sep 18, 2024 8:16 am
Listening to the conversation with feint disinterest Zailor leans in 'Getting shot at, huh? I would not be opposed to such a notion. As long as we can soot back this time around.

"Will we have to go in to wildspace to get to Fananeen?" AD-hoc ask
OOC:

OOC:
Are we still on Lianna? Just wondering whether Rarity is in our favor, here, or if it makes sense to shop on the destination world (Ocsin?).
Sep 18, 2024 8:55 pm
Ken draws his custom blaster and gives it a spin. 'Shoot first, ask questions later, that's my motto.'
OOC:
Ken's no research nerd but he'd check out the likely planetary conditions where we're going, atmosphere etc. He's still a Rodian - and that means he's a hunter at heart.
Sep 19, 2024 2:37 am
OOC:
You left Lianna, your on a Spaceship called 'Iso-One'. It's a mobile research and 'sales' ship for Iso-Tech. Rarity and legality are less than rigorous here. So, there's a chance you can find quite a bit before you leave. Also, there's a number of planets between you and Corporate Sector space. For a 'guideline', anything between Lianna (point of reference only) and the Corporate sector would be a valid stopping point.
Sep 30, 2024 12:37 pm
Checking the starcharts Ken finds that Fananeen isn't listed anywhere. Ocsin, the other planet Norta mentioned is right on the edge of known Corporate Sector space. Formally part of the Farana region, a small group of planets inhabited by the Ocsinin people. It was recently annexed by the CSA but is still known as a location for 'jumping off' into wild space.
Oct 1, 2024 8:06 pm
'Do we know what to expect from the Ocsinin and Wild Space?' Ken's brow is deeply furrowed from the effort of trawling his brain for anything he's heard. 'Nothing good I imagine.'

After pausing, AD-hoc says: "The outer rim world of Ocsin has been annexed by the Corporate Sector Authority. While we won't have to deal the with Empire, we should still be on our guard. The beings of Ocsin have compiled data about Wild Space, which they trade to the CSA for technology. You may prefer to dress for wet weather if our adventure will be taking us outdoors."
Oct 20, 2024 7:47 pm
'So what do we have that the Ocsin might want to exchange for information?' ponders Ken. 'More than just credits anyway...'
Oct 21, 2024 1:54 am
"Difficult to say wothout seeing what they already have. It is doubtful we could compete with the CSA."
Oct 21, 2024 7:44 pm
'Maybe some black market tech?'
Oct 21, 2024 8:35 pm
"Yep, sounds interesting," Creds says, stroking the whiskers on his left jowl. "We'll need to know the local scouts, maybe some local mucky mucks. Figure out who can get us to the wild tech, what they want, and how we can give it to 'em." He nods to AD-HOC. "Maybe buy some rain slickers before we go planetside, too."

Anything 'interesting' we might be able to pick up from Isotech and use as leverage with the Ocsin?
Oct 23, 2024 12:26 pm
OOC:
There's all kinds of 'interesting' tech at Isotech. You could find almost anything there. As a clarification, when you get to the planet Ocsin, you'll have to find a guide for traveling into wildspace. So you're more likely to have to deal with a couple people to fine the one that'll lead you. You won't necessarily be dealing with the government of the planet.

I fixed Creds's statement. I was unclear on the mission, but now I get it.
Oct 23, 2024 9:36 pm

Oct 24, 2024 2:33 am
"So long's it's for legitimate medicinal purposes," Creds says. "We'll at least need the datawork that says it is. Them Corpos are pretty dang relentless with smugglers, I hear."
Oct 24, 2024 12:51 pm
OOC:
Your in the right place.
Norta has a crate of Glitterstim, it was among some cargo the picked up from 'another' source. He's actually eager to get rid of it, as it's not their normal fare. Because he can't just give anything away, he'll sell it to you for 2k for the 100 dose crate.
OOC:
Market price = 5k.
Oct 24, 2024 6:51 pm
AD-hoc can't imagine what a being would use that much spice, but if it will possible help them, the Droid will pay for the crate, and prepare to get it loaded.

Creds crosses his arms. "Listen, fellas. The less I know about it, the better. My job is to step in if you get found out." He takes out a data pad and begins scrolling through some docs. "See, here's a contract that says you all hire me as your personal attorney. We'll want to establish attorney-client privilege so I can get you all out of any trouble that may come your way, see? Now, you don't owe me anything up front. No, I'm happy to take any fee you think appropriate once we get to Ocsin and you make whatever sale you allegedly are going to make." He hands the datapad out for the others to sign. "But a one-quarter stake—minus 500 credits that I won't be ponying up on the front end—sounds reasonable."
OOC:
Creds won't outright buy or sell spice, but he'll get you off if you're caught doing it. On the front end, he won't pay any of the 2K to purchase the spice. Instead, he'll take a quarter cut (minus 500 credits for the purchase of the spice) all on the back end, laundering that as "attorney's fees."

'Load it up Norta, we're going on a little trip.
Nov 4, 2024 1:34 pm
Norta collects the credits and has a guy bring the crate of spice to your ship. Now that everyone has their gear you load up on the ship and take off. It's quite a bit of a journey and requires three separate jumps as you wind from the Perlemian trade route out to the Hydian Way and then eventually out to the Ocsin system. Coming out of hyperspace you see the planet Ocsin and it does have a dark grey/brown hue. The upper level swirl of clouds are dark, but look thin enough to allow sufficient light through. The ship detects the prime landing beacon and as you approach the planet, your hailed.

"Unknown vessel, this is Ocsin Spaceport Control, please identify."
Nov 4, 2024 9:19 pm
Before answering, Ken asks the others, 'So what's our cover story? Traders? Explorer? Scavengers? We've got a bit of cargo to camouflage the spice but I don't think we convince as merchants.'
OOC:
Do we still have spoofed ID for the ship?
Nov 4, 2024 10:06 pm

Nov 6, 2024 6:22 pm
Creds shrugs. "They haven't asked our business yet, so no need to tell 'em. Just an ID." He sits in the sensors station chair in the cockpit. "But if it comes to it, they must get their fair share of explorers here, being on the edge of Wild Space and all." Creds shrugs. "Guess we're explorers."

'Explorers it is,' says Ken. 'Ocsin Spaceport Control, this is the Slippery Ghest YT-2400 light freighter out of hyperspace seeking permission to land, over.'
Nov 7, 2024 2:58 pm
"Acknowledged Slippery Ghest, please follow the landing beacon to bay 17."

Pergano tunes to the landing beacon and before long you gliding through the clouds. Below a couple thousand meters, the skies clear up and you see the rolling grey/green landscape as you approach the spaceport. The clouds do let a fair bit of light through, but the color is definitely more of a gloom than a shadow feel.

The landing bays are an oval permacrete and you spot several rows of bays with a few larger ones in the distance. There's about a dozen ships scattered around the spaceport and you see fence surrounding the bays with a couple gateways into the spaceport building.
Nov 7, 2024 9:49 pm
'Is this an open carry sort of world or should we be more discrete?' asks Ken as he slips out the co-pilot chair and straps on his blaster.
Nov 7, 2024 11:58 pm
Pergano checks the beacon instructions from the spaceport. Seems weapons are open carry, but there's a note about reasonableness in what you choose to carry.
Nov 8, 2024 8:08 pm
Laughing as Pergano reads out the requirement of reasonableness, he pulls on his odd-little leather gloves and pats his modified heavy blaster. 'What's unreasonable is to ask me not to do things with style,' and he draws the weapon with its silvery metal filigree and spins it in his hand. Pow he mouths to Pergano.
Nov 10, 2024 10:25 am
Following Ken's lead Zailor slings his rifle over his shoulder.
well, I'm ready when you are.
Nov 10, 2024 4:02 pm
AD-hoc doesn't have a blaster, but will grab his hammer and his repair patches. Everything else needed, is built in to his chassis
Nov 10, 2024 6:59 pm
Creds ducks under Zailor's rifle. "Watch where you point that thing, now! Does match the explorer thing, though. Here we are looking for new sources of exotic cold cuts!" He stands up and holsters his Defender pistol. "That's a cover story, Son."
OOC:
Creds talks like Ben Matlock crossed with Foghorn Leghorn.

Does Zailor need a sidearm? Creds has a light blaster pistol he won't be using anymore after acquiring his Defender.
Nov 10, 2024 9:36 pm
'Well boys, let's head out,' says Ken, and tips an imaginary cowboy hat. 'We're explorers, looking for this world Fananeen but don't let that slip just yet. And any opportunity comes up to shift the Glitterstim you know what to do...' He tightens his leather gloves, adjusts the holster for his filigreed custom blaster, and straightens up the lapels on his faux-leather purple jacket which bulges with hidden plastoid armour.

'And remember, blend in, be subtle,' he says, looking pointedly at AD-hoc.

Nov 11, 2024 2:27 pm
As you come down the ramp, the cool air strikes you. The spaceport is brighter than you expected based on the clouds you passed through. A slight breeze blows across the landing pads and as you look around you see a couple beings moving cargo between two ships. Heading toward the gate, you see a lone guard sitting in a booth. The guard looks across the four of you, "Ship services are across the street in the Spaceport Control office, most of the city is to the right, Bars, the Explorers Guild and a few other spacer guilds are left."
Nov 13, 2024 3:05 am
"Curious, is there a part of the city we should avoid if personal safety is our top priority?"
Nov 13, 2024 1:59 pm
The guard looks curiously and AD-hoc, Well Mr. Droid, you kinda on the ragged edge of known space. I'd think you'd want to be closer to the core if your worried about personal safety. But as for the city, there aren't any areas that are much worse than in any big city. But if your worried, stay out of dark alleys."
Nov 13, 2024 6:08 pm
"Noted, thank you Mr. Guard." AD-hoc says, not mockingly, before turning back to the group he ask "Where to?"
Nov 14, 2024 12:18 am
Maybe we start to the left? See what we can learn in a bar and maybe visit the explorers guild, for appearance sake if nothing else. And maybe those dark alleys will have someone interested in out extra cargo?
Nov 16, 2024 6:46 pm
At the mention of the bars, Ken has already set off to the left and is leaving the others in his wake.
Nov 17, 2024 10:07 am
Well then, I suppose it is decided.
And with that Zailor heads after Ken.
Nov 20, 2024 1:27 pm
Ken leads the crew down the street, it's a paved, fairly wide lane with a couple general goods shops on the side across from the landing field. You walk about a block when you come to your first cross street, it heads away to your left and you can see that there are bars heading in both directions. Crossing the street, Ken, always a Bar connoisseur, walks into the first one he comes to.
Nov 20, 2024 8:02 pm
Playing it cool, Ken bursts through the door and struts ostentatiously up to the bar where he slides onto a stool and hails the barman. 'What's your local specialty?'
Nov 20, 2024 9:23 pm
Creds sidles up to the bar, intending to order whatever the barman says.
Nov 21, 2024 9:04 pm
Zailor follows the others into the bar, but hangs back a little to take a good look around the bar, before joining the others.
Nov 21, 2024 10:02 pm
AD-Hoc will enter after the others, just in case it's beneficial it the other patrons think they aren't associated. He'll find a quiet spot where he can see the exit, and the group.

With the crew together outside the bar, you continue down the street. About a block goes by and you pass the entrance to the "Ocsin Trade House". It a clean and well kept building that stands out from the neighboring buildings, not in construction but just in the effort to be cleaner. A few doors down is "The Eternal Brotherhood of Ocsin Explorers", not quite as shiny as the Trade House, but someone puts a little effort into being cleaner than the surrounding buildings. Entering the Explorers puts you in a small lobby, an Ocsin male is standing at the Front Desk and you can see past him, there is definitely a lounge area with half a dozen or so people at a couple tables.

Let me know if someone was going to peel off at the Trade House or if we're sticking together for now.
Dec 11, 2024 10:12 pm
Giving him a little shove from behind, Ken whispers, 'This seems like your territory Creds, introduce us.'
Dec 12, 2024 2:50 pm
Creds tugs at his scarf and puffs out a breath. It kicks up a cloud of dust, which seems to hang in the air. "Normally, I'd agree with you, Kenny. But if we're offloading that spice, you'll need to do the wheeling and dealing. I'll need to keep my nose clean in case something goes sideways, so I can get y'all out of it." He scratches his jowls, thinking. "But maybe I can at least help make some introductions?" The Lutrillian shrugs and strides through the door, looking for someone who looks like they know what's what inside.

Creds strides through the door and approaches the person at the front. "How do you do? My associates and I just arrived on-world. I was hoping you might be in the market for some exploring, so I was hoping you might point me to someone who can get us up to speed on how that sorta business."

Dec 12, 2024 6:01 pm
Psst. Ken whispers from behind, 'Ask for Doana Ndral.'
Dec 13, 2024 1:32 pm
The completely straight faced Ocsin behind the counter replies, "Well my friend, its your lucky day. You happen to be standing at the welcome desk for The Eternal Brotherhood of Ocsin Explorers. Each one of our senior explorers has over a decade of experience navigating the regions of wildspace. They are all talented in uncovering the safest routes through hyperspace to unknown worlds. Now, do you have an explorer in mind or should I just pull up the sheet of available explorer's and pick one for you?" He smiles, waiting for a reply.
Dec 13, 2024 2:54 pm
"What can you tell me about Doana Ndral? We've also heard good things about Laeed Tomin."
Dec 13, 2024 9:54 pm
The man looks at you, slightly surprised. "Well well, some one has done a little homework. Doana is our most requested explorer and Laeed is far and a way the most vocal of our explorers. They both have 5 star ratings from their customers, not that I've been able to verify all of Laeed's reviewers." He gives you a wink. "Both of them happen to be in the lounge at the moment, I can give your group a Client's pass for twenty credits. It'll give you access to the lounge to speak with whomever you wish. If you find someone to guide you, the guild handles the contracts, which tend to be exceedingly vague since few know where they're actually going to end up once you go traipsing around beyond the rim."

After hearing the offer Zailor looks at the rest of the team.
I don't think we will get a better offer at the moment.

"They seem pleasant enough, but I don't believe they've ever worked together. It's rare you need two explorers pouring over star charts and working out experimental hyperspace jumps." A small machine on the counter spits out a flimsy card which he hands to you. "There you are, good hunting."
Dec 24, 2024 2:51 pm
'Split up and sound out our two leads?' asks Ken.

Ken heads into the lounge area, the tables are dispersed evenly around the area, not in rows. There are a total of eight Ocsin, all but two sitting alone. Doana Ndral looks you over as you approach. She has the typical Ocsin appearance, black pupil-less eyes; white, translucent skin and complexion, and a little too slender for standard Humans. She takes a sip of her lightly colored drink and indicates the chair across from her.

Jan 4, 2025 5:29 pm
To Ken he can barely tell an Ocsin apart from any other humans - all hideously smooth like walking farm animals, with their disconcerting wide mouths and freakishly small mouths - eugh. Still, he was used to them now and managed to disguise his revulsion as he took the chair opposite the guide, paying no attention to AD-hoc and his comfort (if such a thing exists for droids).

'Doana Ndral - a pleasure to meet you,' he says with his reptilian charm. 'I have heard good things about you and your skills.'

OOC:
At this stage I thinl Ken just wants to smarm his way into Ndral's good graces. So he's going to lay it on thick.
OOC:
And fail horribly of course! Maybe he is utterly uncharming and does nothing to win her over but there's something about Ken that interests Ndral (Advantages)

Slightly taken aback, Ken replies, 'Yes, that is exactly what we're here to discuss. Do you have any particular mystical worlds you'd recommend?' He decides to hold back on the name of Fananeen for the moments. It's not on the star charts and he wants to see whether the discovery of ancient technology there is common knowledge yet.

"That depends, are you hunting big game for someone's private collection, looking for piles of abandoned treasure or did you have some specific lost tech you'd like to recover? The guild's private maps have nearly 500 star systems that aren't on standard maps. Of those, there's probably a hundred discovered systems that were inhabited and many more that none of us have ever stepped foot on."

Now that she's into the conversation more, Ndral leans forward. "It's surprising how much that does narrow things down. From just that your either looking for Fethean or Fananeen I, or Fananeen II. I've been to Fethean and it's more of a big game planet, very exotic and lethal. One of the guild members recently updated the notes on the Fananeen system, mentioned an installation or ruined city site. That sounds like what your after."

Jan 8, 2025 8:47 pm

Creds nods to Zailor. "That should be Tomin over there." The Lutrillian leads the way and addresses the explorer. "Howdy, gentle-being! The fine attendant over there pointed me and my client here your way. Said you were the best of the best when it comes to finding places others seem to have forgotten all about. If that's so, we might be in the market for some forgotten tech, if that sorta thing is in your wheelhouse, of course."
OOC:
Damn. The Gamers Plane gods have welcomed me back from vacation in style! If that roll was truly necessary, maybe he spent some time on Lutrillia, had a blast, but hasn't seen anyone from there in ages--so he's Creds' new best friend. The second Triumph could mean he's under pressure of some sort, so it makes him much more amenable to working with us. Advantages would be for boosts to any other rolls against him.

Of course, happy to ignore the roll if it wasn't necessary!

Always so amusing, we're bound by contract not to discuss which client went to which planet and what, if anything, they find. Yet, the clients themselves typically brag about their 'discoveries'. Rarely do big finds go without bringing more treasure seekers. The member that updated the records did a wonderful job downplaying that trip as boring. But your presence here suggests there was something worth bragging about."

Creds smiles at the Ocsin. "I'm a lawyer myself, so I appreciate the importance of keeping the client's doings private. Let's just say that my associate and I've heard rumors that this Fananeen and ancient tech caches may be connected." The Lutrillian shrugs. "So what'cha think? Doana shrugs a little at Ken's question, "The routes we chart are temporary, we update the records about how we got there, but this is still uncharted space. Lots of times ships come back damaged from a miscalculation or don't come back at all. Known space has hundreds or thousands of ships traveling to each planet almost daily. The navicomputers share their data and observations to the spaceport when they land, so everyone has the latest information fairly quickly. We have planets out there that have been visited once by an Oscin, others have seen ten visits in as many years. The earliest entry on Fananeen is from fifty years ago, the second entry was six months ago. From what the notes say, it took them 4 months and nearly 50 jumps to find a route there. Most treasure seekers don't have the cash or patience to tromp around wildspace for months. None of that even addresses the pergil, space worms, mynocks, rogue comets or solar storms that like to pop up and eat you."

"Fananeen you say. That's interesting." He looks around the room to see who's hanging around. "I know the scout who ran that one, said the client was completely exasperated by how long the whole thing took, months if I remember right. They landed, refueled and practically blasted out of here. Seems they were in a huge hurry to get out of CSA space and back to familiar sectors. He did say it was some old tech cache, but that's not in the notes, since we're officially not supposed to report on what the clients find. Technically there's some Imperial law, probably been laying around since the Republic about treasure finds and claim rights. We honor that stuff, but if the finder never files a claim and spills the info at some bar, there's nothing to stop us from guiding you right to the spot. As long as the credits are good, of course."

Doana Ndral says:
"The routes we chart are temporary, we update the records about how we got there, ...
"Curious, if hired, could you make this data available to me? Perhaps a more expedient, yet still reasonably safe route could be found."
Jan 12, 2025 3:48 pm
'That makes sense. How long do you think it would take us to get to Faneen. And...' he grins, 'Why should we go with you rather than Laeed Tomin over there?' He gestures to his Creds and Zailor who are in deep conversation.
Jan 13, 2025 1:41 pm
She turns her head to AD-HOC, "Of course, we'll be using your ships navicomputer and sensors. All the data we collect along the way will be yours. I keep a copy of general directions and jump points for our notes, anything more precise would be wasted, unless someone was heading back almost immediately."

Looking back to Ken, "Considering our information is fresh, for wildspace at least, I'd say less than a month, maybe only a couple weeks. As for who you pick, Laeed's not a bad choice. Despite his tendency for self-promotion he's one of the better astrogators we have. He's very much a numbers man once he get's to work, I lean more towards intuition, some routes just feel right."
Jan 13, 2025 10:25 pm
'I like it', says Ken - pointing the finger of one hand towards Tomin - 'All numbers like AD-hoc here' - and then pointing the other hand in a pistol shape at Ndral he says 'And you're more intuition - flying by the feeling.' He gives AD-hoc a friendly punch which ends up hurting his spindly fingers rather more than he was expecting.

'We'll regroup with our crew and get back to you with a decision...but for me, I'm a flying by the seat of my pants kind of a guy so you get my vote!' He backs away finger gunning before colliding with AD-hoc, exchanging whispers, and sheepishly walking back to ask about her rates of pay. 'You know the droids, all numbers like I said.'
Jan 13, 2025 10:36 pm
Not being much of a negotiator Zailor leaves the details up to Creds.
Jan 13, 2025 11:00 pm
AD-hoc replies with a quote he's overheard in the past, likely from some Muun in the Banking Clan "One accurate measurement is worth a thousand expert opinions."
Jan 15, 2025 4:09 am
Creds sees AD-hoc and Ken heading his way, so he asks Tomin one more question: "So, finding one of these routes... I'm guessing that's one way to find this fabled tech. But what about the folks that already found it? Any idea where they might be putting their loot up for sale? A bird in the hand and all that, right, friend?"

"I would be fine with either choice. I have grater interest in the data they can provide than the intuition of their innards." AD-hoc says
Jan 17, 2025 8:19 pm
Creds chuckles. "Rates are never truly fixed in my experience. But sounds like our tech flew the coop. What's our goal -- to hunt it back down, or to strike out looking for our own claim? Might be easier to hunt down the last find rather than spend months hunting down a new one."
OOC:
Not advocating one approach or the other; just trying to get a sense on what y'all want to do.

Hmm, it sounds like a bit of a hunt either way. Count me in.

OOC:
Besides, exploring new words sounds more fun!
Jan 21, 2025 12:38 am
"I agree. Based on the information we have, going to Faneen is likely the most profitable plan of action. Although I have no pending obligations, I understand if other do. We could be gone for months."
Jan 24, 2025 4:44 pm
Creds purses his jowls for a moment. "I've always wanted to dip my toes into Discovery Law. I could see myself making a name for myself helping clients—such as yourselves—lay claim to what they find. I'm in." He juts a thumb back toward the explorers. "So who we go with? Tomin's got a good head on his shoulders, but Ndral's got the guts. Maybe we see who'll charge us the least?"
Jan 25, 2025 8:40 pm
'Ndral implied the rates are fixed - but why don't you see if you can negotiate us a...discount?'
Jan 29, 2025 6:44 pm
"I suppose hring them both is out of the question? Although if they are just using information from a shared database, there would be no point."
Jan 30, 2025 4:39 pm
Creds tells the others he'll scope things out. He returns to the person at the front desk and asks, "So, my colleagues and I have decided to hire an explorer. What's the process? How do we know the going rate?"
Jan 31, 2025 2:42 pm
The Ocsin behind the counter smiles and produces a pre-printed rate card. "As you can see, the typical rates are a deposit of 10,000 credits before you leave. Pro-rated if you return in less than one month. There will be an additional monthly charge that's usually 4,000 credits for each month past the first, due when you return. Also, once you pick an Explorer to contract with, I'll have a sidebar with them to gauge their interest, that can affect the rates as well."
OOC:
Let me know your pick, lay it on thick and give me your roll, I assume Negotiation but if otherwise, I'll adjust and then I'll roll his opposed roll. :)

Feb 3, 2025 10:00 pm
"Makes sense," Creds says. "I'm happy to chat directly with our explorer of choice, of course. Would that work? Maybe save you a bit of trouble? Or is there some wiggle room on some of those fees if we work with you? Maybe cut you in on some of what we bring back?"

After some back and forth with a brief pause for him to consult with Ndral, you manage to settle on the base rates. He presents you with the contract for 10,000cr. now and 4,000cr. per additional month, due if you return later than the first month.
Feb 10, 2025 7:57 pm
Creds raises his brows at the unmodified price. "I see," His tone is cool, detached. "So remind me again why we have to go through you?"
Feb 11, 2025 12:32 am
"Cut to the chase is it." The Ocsin smiles, seemingly not offended by Creds's tone. "It's a guild, or Labor Union if you like. Some of these explorers are eager puppies desperate to go galivanting off into the unknown. Some of them would do it for free, just to do it. Others are much shrewder negotiators than me. Heck, Tomin is twice the shark I pretend to be. If he ran the place, rates would be double, but business would be non-existent. I try and take care of my people, we set rates so all of our people can live and our prices stay reasonable enough that we have clients. Sure there's some wiggle room, especially if one of our explorers shows some interest or lack of for a particular trip. Ndral seems interested in this trip, on average, she has the shortest time in the field of anyone. I'm betting your back really close to that first month and if there's anything to find, you should be credits ahead. On that front, I do have arrangements with the Trade House. In case you come back with something your not sure how to move or even if you have something lying around you need to move before the trip. People often come out here to trade, us being on the edge of civilization, we have all kinds of needs the coreward folks take for granted."
OOC:

"Well, I can't fault you for guilding together. Stars know I did my time as a guild lawyer back on Lutrillia. We may take you up on that connection to the Trade House. Just let me consult with my colleagues."

Creds rejoins the others and shares the news about the steep price: 10K now, 4K per month after the first. "Now, I could try to find some wiggle room to get out of union contracts and whatnot, but I'm not sure how successful we'd be and how quickly. May be that we don't have much choice. They may help move the spice, though..."
Feb 11, 2025 5:32 pm
"I think expediency would be prudent here. If there is anything of value, we want to get there before someone else."

The voice on the other end is a little high pitched and kind of excitable sounding. "Oh yeah, niche is my niche. You have reached the right man. Just one question and we can set up a meet. This is a private number, only a few people have it, so tell me who gave it to you and if it checks out, we can deal."
Feb 24, 2025 9:11 pm
'I'll tell you what, friend. You tell me your name and I'll tell you who gave it to me', says Ken - a little put off that he didn't get the suave conspirator he was expecting.
Feb 24, 2025 9:17 pm
"It's Feudjio my friend. I hope you have a good source, I'm itching to do some business..."
Feb 25, 2025 8:43 pm
'Well greetings Feudjio. I was given your name by my friend in The Eternal Brotherhood of Ocsin Explorers.'
Feb 25, 2025 9:23 pm
"Excellent, you are the call I was expecting. I'm at docking pad 94 or if you'd rather can meet you at your ship. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing what has made the long trip from the 'rest of the galaxy' out to our little piece of it."
OOC:
Your at docking pad 36 if you want him to come to you.
Feb 25, 2025 11:14 pm
'We'll meet you there' says Ken, not sure he wants this individual poking around his ship just yet.
Feb 25, 2025 11:19 pm
"Maybe I can sneak in first, and make sure this looks legitimate."
Feb 25, 2025 11:36 pm
Ken sniggers, 'You aren't known for your stealthiness droid.'
Feb 25, 2025 11:59 pm
AD-hoc gives the droid approximation of a shrug "I did say 'Maybe'. Shall we just head over then?"
Feb 26, 2025 10:43 pm
Ken studies the droid closely - he's not sure they're capable of sulking but this one seems to be doing the best impression of it he can. 'How about using your naturally nondescript demeanour and taking a look while you pretend to service one of the ships?'
Feb 27, 2025 6:19 am
You want me to keep an eye on our lawly friend or should I help you out? Zailor asks chuckling about the idea of a sneaking droid.
Feb 27, 2025 6:44 am
AD-hoc doesn't reply, he just starts walking and heads to docking pad 94 to try and fulfill Ken's request. He tries to look like he belongs as he roams the halls, trying to casually assess what's around.

AD-hoc wanders across the Starport, weaving around or sometimes straight through landing pads. As he approaches pad 94, he see's two Ocsin males coming down the ship ramp. The are well dressed, by his assessment, and one of them is pushing a repulsor pallet. Both have sleek but small blasters on their hip. Nothing out of the ordinary and they do not look rushed or concerned. Once off the ship, they close the ramp and head toward the Ghest.
Feb 27, 2025 4:02 pm
AD-hoc turns on his comm "Looks legitimate, 2 armed Ocsin disembarking."
Mar 1, 2025 6:32 pm
Ken invites Zailor to join him outside the Ghest. He's wearing his blaster but no body armour and has a very small sample of the spice slipped inside a pocket.
Mar 2, 2025 5:52 pm
Zailor grabs his gear and joins Ken outside the ship.
Mar 3, 2025 3:39 am
As the two Ocsin approach, pushing a repulsor pallet, Ken and Zailor can tell they are being 'sized up' almost exactly as Ken and Zailor are sizing them up. The two male Ocsin are dressed in what looks like business casual and each has a 'dainty' blaster pistol on their hip. Almost like an accessory rather than the more functional and powerful weapons that Ken and Zailor are carrying.

They come to a stop a couple meters away. The one not pushing the pallet, takes a step forward, "We'll you gentlemen look like you could tear the ears off a Gundark without breaking a sweat. That's good, working types tend to bring better goods than the stuffed up suits we sometimes get. Like anyone one out here needs some perfume from the core." The Ocsin share a laugh over some obvious inside joke. "So, I'm Feudjio, what great bounty from the inner worlds do you have for me today?"
Mar 3, 2025 9:42 pm
Ken doesn't say a word. He just takes out the little opaque packet of Glitterstim from his pocket and tosses it to Feudjio. Once the Ocsin has had a chance to sample it he says simply 'One hundred doses.'
Mar 3, 2025 11:45 pm
Feudjio catches the packet, as he holds it up, you see his pencil thin eyebrows raise and he looks back at you for a second. Pulling an obviously modified hand scanner out of his pocket, he lays the opaque packet on the repulsor pallet and scans it. After a few moments, he "hrm's" to himself and turns back to Ken. "Well, it's not perfume from the core. I'm going to assume that since you got my number from the Explorer's Guild, you're getting ready for an expedition. That's the kind of thing that helps my trade and my planet. Considering how far you had to bring this, I'm willing to go 8,000cr., if we don't haggle. Also, you'd be working your way onto my favorite supplier list. What do you say?"
Mar 4, 2025 4:15 am
AD-hoc's head turns to Ken as the droid flatly says "I've never been anyone's favorite before. Are there burdens attached to such a title?"
Mar 4, 2025 7:59 pm
While the others do a deed that their lawyer had best not know about, Creds positions himself near the entrance to the docking bays, where some burly workers are on break. He leans against a wall and pulls out a datapad. As he pretends to peruse it, placed just in front of his field of vision, he arcs an ear toward the stevedores, listening to see if they spill the beans about anything interesting.
OOC:
Of course, they may not have anything to say. Just wanted to position Creds by the entrance to the docking bays as a lookout.

'Don't worry droid, you...they...oh never mind,' whispers Ken. His bulbous eyes enlarge even more when he hears what the Ocsin is willing to pay. That's a significant profit on what they paid for it back on the Iso-one. For a moment he considers bargaining harder but two things occur to him, one is that he doesn't have any other contacts out here and the other is that it would probably be useful to cultivate a supply line out here on the edge of Wild Space, particularly if they pick up anything on their travels they want to get rid of in a hurry without taking it back to Isotech. 'I think we can do business,' is eventually all he says with a tight smile.

OOC:
I think that's a good profit over what we paid (2k?) and what it is worth in mainstream space (5k?) so Ken will likely see that and hope that he's potentially made a long-term contact.
Mar 5, 2025 2:13 pm
"Tremendously good." announces Feudjio. He pulls several credit chips from his pocket and sorts through them. After a minute of fussing about he comes up with the right combination and passes them to Ken. "Pleasure doing business with you fine Sirs. You have my number, don't hesitate if your back this way with anything interesting."

Mar 7, 2025 3:44 pm
Creds rejoins the others from the entrance to the spaceport. "I trust everything went smooth as a greased Gamorrean down a gundark's gullet?" He then fixes his eyes toward the Exporers Guild. "On second thought, don't tell me."

Ken smiles back at the Ocsin as he takes the credits. 'We'll certainly keep you in mind if we find anything unusual on our travels.' Once they've loaded the spice onto the pallet, Ken grabs all the credits they need from the Slippery Ghest. 'Let's make a deal.'
Mar 10, 2025 4:54 pm
After a quick walk you all return to the Explorer's guild, the desk clerk see's you coming, "Ah, back already? I assume we're in business?"
Mar 10, 2025 8:35 pm
Ken slaps the credits down on the desk. 'We're in business.'
Mar 11, 2025 12:55 pm
The desk clerk produces a data pad, "Here's the contract, as we discussed. Sign here and I'll keep a copy and the data pad with your copy is yours to keep. Once signed Ms. Ndral will be available to leave between two and twenty-four hours from now, as determined by you. Once you leave or 24 hours from now will start the one month timer on the initial contract. Any questions?"
Mar 11, 2025 1:59 pm
Creds takes out his own datapad, pulls a pair of goggles over his eyes, and squints at the proffered contract on the counter. "Uh... Just one minute, hon. Let me take a gander at this here contract and make sure we haven't forgotten anything important..."
OOC:
Knowlede (Ed) check to read over the contract, spot any loopholes or unforeseen gotcha clauses. +1 success for Data Goggles, +1 boost for Legal Datapad. Guessing at difficulty, but add more purples as appropriate. Adding a setback for this being an unfamiliar territory.

Assuming that roll stands, could the Triumph be that Creds can't spot any loopholes or gotchas, but he does notice that the Explorers Guild is running a promotion—there's an advertising holo at the top of the datapad—that says that if this is your first contract, you get 1 month free rental on an exploration droid for your trip? And maybe advantages are that we get our ship's supplies topped off for free, as well.

Ken nods at Creds, reluctantly impressed at his negotiating. 'We already have one strange droid,' he says, pointing a thumb at AD-hoc, 'What difference will another one make?'
Mar 12, 2025 8:40 pm
It takes a moment too long for AD-hoc to realize Ken is referring to him, the droid turns and looks over it's shoulder to see where the Rodian was pointing. Turning back to the clerk he ask; "Where do we wait for Ndral?"
Mar 14, 2025 1:18 pm
"Ndral can meet you at your ship in two hours, at the soonest. Or you can pick a later time if you have other things to attend to."

The days stretch into a week and then a few more days, you've made 6 or 7 more jumps. Despite what the instruments show, it all looks the same from the cockpit. Ndral passes another set of coordinates over to Pergano and he adjusts the ships heading and jumps the ship. Ndral joins the rest of you in the crew lounge. Accepting one of Ken's cocktail creations, she relaxes and partakes of any small talk.

Hours pass and the ship drops out of hyperspace. There's a 'Whoop' from the cockpit and Pergano calls out "I'm looking at planets guys."

Heading to the bridge, you crowd in. You're a little farther out than you would be on a normal approach and above the orbital plane, though that's probably safer. Fananeen appears as a deep green planet, matching its forest world description. Pergano brings the ship about and eases up the throttle.

After several hours without moving, AD-hoc has discovered three sites that appear to be the remains of small cities. One of them has, what appears to be, a spaceport or perhaps a large planetary airport. There are also two areas that have a design that, to your minds, seems defensive or military. One is a sprawling 'base' with numerous deteriorating buildings and a crumbling 'defensive' perimeter of permacrete towers and fencing. The other is smaller, but set against the base of a mountain, hinting at probable interior spaces. Both are fairly overgrown with forest and nearly invisible to the eye.
Apr 6, 2025 4:08 am
AD-hoc relates what the scanners found to the others. "Where should we search first, as splitting up would be, . . inadvisable"
Apr 6, 2025 8:39 pm
'Are we after big-military-base type salvage or hidden-mountain-lair tech?' Ken asks with puppyish excitement. 'I say the more hidden something is the better it's going to be. Porko moulee-rah!'
Apr 6, 2025 9:50 pm
We're not planning on leaving after just one site, are we? Either way I wouldn't mind looking for some hidden lair. Zailor says with a grin spreading across his face.
Apr 7, 2025 11:23 pm
Creds regards the read-outs. "Interesting. They both look promising. That smaller one might have more experimental stuff if turns out to be some secret hideaway. Then again, if it's just a comm station or something, we might be disappointed." He shrugs. "Maybe we flip a credit to decide."
Apr 8, 2025 10:04 pm
Ken's hopping excitedly from one leg to the others. 'Heads, heads...'

Creds steps out of his berth in a jaunty new scout-looking ensemble, complete with a neckerchief. "Off we go!"
Apr 17, 2025 12:34 pm
The four of you proceed down the ramp and onto the forest floor. The trees around you stand about 20m tall. The canopy is fairly thick and, as you look westward toward your destination, you can see that not much light makes it to the ground. The sounds of the forest start to make themselves heard. They had been noticeably absent, probably startled by the noise of the landing ship. The sound slowly rises to what you assume is normal, not deafening, but louder than you might have expected.

is there some kind of rules that tell me what should be rolled or is it something the GM decides on the spot?
Apr 26, 2025 10:53 pm
OOC:
ChrSch -- not the GM, of course, but I'm sure if you describe what you want to do, Esidrix (and the rest of us) can suggest what to roll and when.

In a scene like this, where we have a turn order, and every little move counts, you get one action and one maneuver per turn. A maneuver is something like drawing a weapon, aiming a weapon, moving a short distance, opening a door, taking cover in the tree roots, etc. An action is anything that requires a roll and a few random things that come from your Talents if you have them. You can always trade your action for a second maneuver if you want (so if you need to pick up your blaster and run, say. Or you can do action + free maneuver + extra maneuver by taking 2 strain.

In your case, it looks like you moved to a tree (maneuver) and took cover in the roots (maneuver). If you also wanted to do an action, like firing on the creatures, you would need to suffer 2 strain.

Does that make sense?
Apr 26, 2025 11:06 pm
OOC:
Also, Savagebob is an experienced player and GM with this system, so he had an idea of what made sense. But as he mentioned you can always ask, "Is there something I can roll to get an idea, understand the situation, etc." I'm more than happy to pull up your character and offer a couple examples on what skills would help you out.

Just as the last creature is passing between the group, two predatory creatures, about half the size of the herd animals, race past AD-hoc and converge on the grazer bringing it down mere meters from AD-hoc. The two have there paws full getting control of the wounded prey.

May 1, 2025 9:18 pm
Ken keeps the two predators covered with his heavy blaster. Not opening fire yet but ready to if they show any signs of aggression towards the team.
May 2, 2025 2:00 pm
AD-hoc just watches in awe. Not aware that he was in any danger, he wasn't made of meat after all.
May 2, 2025 2:06 pm
Creds draws his light blaster pistol and fumbles with the piece to point it at the nearest creature. "We might wanna sneak past while they're distracted," he whispers to the others. "Once they're done with their supper, they may want dessert."
OOC:
At this point, just using my turn to draw weapon and aim (two maneuvers).
May 6, 2025 1:23 pm
The predators spend a few minutes subduing their prey, if not interrupted or distracted. They then settle in to tearing away at the animals meat.
May 6, 2025 2:11 pm
'Let's leave them to their dinner' says Ken. And he starts back along the trail. A little more carefully now. Blaster drawn.
May 7, 2025 5:30 am
Quietly and at the ready Zailor will follow Ken, keep an eye on the predators.
May 7, 2025 4:31 pm
The four of you ease away from the creatures, AD-hoc's occasional clanks draw a look. But he's so far out of their search pattern and the fresh meat in their mouths is far more interesting.

Once clear of the feasting, you move towards the mountain again. After about an hour of, it looks like it's just past the next tree, finally you step past the last tree. The 'clearing' is really an area, roughly rectangular, about 100 meters across, covered in waist high shrub and bushy type plants. Across the 'clearing' is a recessed area into the mountain, maybe 10 meters by 10 meters. What is in the darkness of the opening is impossible to say from here.
May 7, 2025 6:25 pm
"I can go first if you'd like, since I'm not particularly concerned with being eaten"
May 8, 2025 6:36 pm
Ken shrugs. He's clearly okay with the idea of AD-hoc acting as canary in the coal mine. But he takes the opportunity to creep as close to the opening as he can while staying in cover, keeping his blaster drawn and using his scanner goggles to peer into the gloom around the opening.
May 8, 2025 7:22 pm
Taking a sign from Ken's cautiousness, AD-hoc takes the hammer from his back into his hands, and wades into the grass toward the opening.
May 9, 2025 5:54 pm
Creds nods. "Go with gusto, big guy."
May 10, 2025 12:15 am
His rifle drawn Zailor follows a little behind AD-hoc, but he keeps trying to keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.
OOC:
Does the career background have any influence on gameplay? Like would the big game hunter give me any insight I to what kind of wildlife we might should expect around here or anything along those lines?
May 10, 2025 4:10 pm
OOC:
Absolutely. The Career gives you page of Talents that you can pick. Your character sheet shows you have:
Forager - Remove up to 2 setback dice from skill checks to find food, water, or shelter. Survival checks to forage take half the time.
Grit - Gain +1 to your strain threshold.
Stalker - Add 1 boost die per rank of stalker to all Stealth and Coordination checks.

Also, If your making a Knowledge check to 'know something' and it's specific to your Career, then I'd certainly approve of a Boost die on that roll.
May 10, 2025 4:12 pm
As you approach the dark opening, Ken's Scanner googles allow him to peer deeper than the rest. He can see a set of large doors, possibly like hangar doors. They seem closed and sitting undisturbed.
May 10, 2025 10:30 pm
Ken messages the others over his comlink. 'Large doors up ahead. Big enough to be hangar doors. No signs of activity.' He moves in closer to cover AD-hoc.
May 11, 2025 5:35 am
AD-hoc will approach the door to try and see if any mechanical or computer locks exist
May 14, 2025 12:48 pm
AD-hoc approaches the door and clearly he can see the mechanism holding the door closed. The design is crafted different to anything he's seen, but the workings appear obvious. There would be a mechanical override inside the door, but from this side it would normally be powered. Alas, at the initial glance, there are no signs of power.
OOC:
Give me an idea how you'd like to handle it, brute force it, disassemble it, try and power it, etc.
May 14, 2025 8:07 pm
AD-hoc will do a quick search of the area to see is there is any power source that can be connected or re-directed to the lock. "If there is no power source available, we may have to force the door open. "

AD-hoc replies to Ken "It would most definitely help to open the door, but may make it hard to securely close it later."
May 15, 2025 5:28 pm
OOC:
@crazybirdman, The check to notice power wouldn't have been that hard, but there are no obvious or accessible power sources handy. If your going to go 'through' the lock, the choice is to take it apart so it could be repaired or to 'cut it' such that it would be rendered useless. Creds scanning goggles produced and advantage, some little piece of info he could pass to you for a boost die. Ken's cutter would also assist in making some parts of the process faster or easier for both methods.

Dismantle for later use (15min base time) would be your Mechanics + 2 boost vs. Hard (3 purple) and any other bonuses you have.

Disassemble for good (5 min base time) would be your Mechanics + 2 boost vs. Average (2 purple) and any other bonuses you have.

May 15, 2025 5:54 pm
AD-hoc accepts the fusion cutter and says "I'll do this the long way, that way we can close this again if needed. This shouldn't take too long. Please don't stray too far." then sets to work.

May 15, 2025 8:34 pm
Ken looks a little put out at not getting to play with his cutter which he's been hauling about in the ship without the chance to use it. If he can he'll get AD-hoc to let him have a go.
May 16, 2025 3:34 am
OOC:
@savagebob - I'm sorry, I missed the plus one success on top of the plus one Advantage you rolled, which you passed on to AD-hoc as information he could use as a boost. That success would have lowered the difficulty by 1, so AD-hoc's roll would have had 2 additional Advantage. All together an amazing team effort.

@Mephistophilis - Under AD-hoc's direction Ken does get to cut a few spots on the lock which speeds up the whole process.

@crazybirdman - you also scored a Triumph - So there's a Narrative bonus you can throw in as you describe the process by which AD-hoc and team carefully disabled this lock leaving it in perfect condition should they need it later.

@ChrSch - Roll Survival against an average difficulty please. I assume you were on Lookout while they were working on the lock. That would be 3 green, 1 yellow and 2 purple.
May 16, 2025 2:48 pm
OOC:
I like the idea of the triumph meaning the door and lick are still fully functional. And ken's help didn't damage anything, lol. Can I also make a remote control for the door? I can use the 'Utility Belt' ability for that if need be.
With Ken's help on the cutter, and AD-hoc using his own internal tools, they are able to get the lock removed, the door open, and the lock put back together in a short amount of time.

and put back together :) I like it. As for the remote, you'd have to restore power for that to work. But it's still possible.
The lock now sits 'unlocked' and the door is open about a quarter meter. Without power it will take some effort to ease it open. While opening the lock, the door didn't appear stuck, it's just a lot of mass to move.

Zailor, meanwhile, has spotted a several hundred kilogram creature, at least a meter high at the hips and probably two and a half meters long. It is being trailed by two smaller versions of itself. Though the specific creature is unknown, the traits imply omnivorous, aggressive, female with cubs. It appears to be zig zagging toward the group, possibly following your scent.
OOC:
@ChrSch - In this version of Star Wars, the Triumph is a success and it means something extra can happen related to the roll you made. You get to pick something that makes sense in the context. i.e. - AD-hoc used his on his Mechanical check to keep the lock working after opening it. You can find the examples from the book here. May 20, 2025 8:47 pm
Ken's face is lit up by the orange glow of the fusion cutter, slicing through the lock alloy like a hot knife through butter - sparks flying. His snout shows as wide a grin as its possible for a Rodian to display. 'Oh yeah!'

Zailor doesn’t raise his voice, but it carries. "Heads up. We’ve got a few hundred kilos of bad attitude heading our way. Big momma and two little ones."

He watches the way she moves—zigzagging, tail flicking.

"She’s not attacking. That’s posturing. Territory stuff."

He then adds

"Basically, she wants us gone, not dead. Let’s try to keep it that way. No sudden moves, no heroic stares. And definitely don’t look at the cubs. We might not have to fight her."
OOC:
like this or was that too much?
May 22, 2025 4:49 pm
Creds keeps his bulbous eyes trained on Zailor as he slowly moves toward the doorway. "Not gonna look at Mama or the whippersnappers. Glad you know how to speak critter, Zailor."

Right on the money, my plan was that she was sensing possibly an easy meal to teach the basics of killing to the cubs. But the Triumph gives the players the power to make small changes like that - So you saw it as territorial and now it is :)

Next Question: Do you try and slide sideways along the mountain away from here or try to open the door enough to slip in.

If your slipping away, everyone will need to make stealth or survival role.
If your opening the door to go inside, we need 1 Athletics check Hard (3 Purple) with help and any boosts you can come up with.
May 22, 2025 10:32 pm
OOC:
I'm guessing that question is aimed at the whole group, right?
My vote would be opening the door.
Boosts are reasons we as players can come up with why a certain situation should be easier for us?
May 23, 2025 1:12 pm
OOC:
Yep, that was a group question.
Boost dice do come from either having a skill or talent or piece of gear or saying "I'll help do the thing". It adds one Boost die (the blue one) to the main roll. Setbacks are the opposite, that would be things I throw at you that makes something harder. They are the Black die. Some Talents will say 'remove one setback per level of the talent'.
May 23, 2025 4:12 pm
OOC:
i vote open the door. I dont think i have anything that would add a boost. If only we had a jar of bacon grease, lol
May 23, 2025 5:44 pm
Creds looks at the hulking door and gives it a tentative push. "How many of us can help shove that door out the way?"
OOC:
Yep, I vote Zailor makes the roll -- assuming he's our bulkiest member -- with boosts from as many of us as can reasonably assist. From Creds, it would be unskilled assistance, as he has no ranks in Athletics.
May 24, 2025 11:17 pm
OOC:
I don't think Zailor has any athletics either. Haha.
Would a droid not be stronger? Aside from lacking the athletics skill I don't know if that would make a difference.

You all grunt and shove and the door slides, easier than expected just over half a meter open. There's an interested grunt from the approaching creatures, as you slip, one by one, out of sight.

Vast darkness is your first thought, the sliver of light streaming into the interior does nothing to reveal what you've entered. Except for Ken, his goggles reveal your in some sort of hangar or garage. The walls extend over 50 meters left and right, the ceiling is almost twenty meters high. The depth of the tunnel is further than even Ken's goggles can illuminate. To your left, near the far wall are a row of, possibly, vehicles.

OOC:
Totally forgot Fido as well.
Zailor can see that the creature is slightly confused, she can obviously still smell you. But you've disappeared and now there's a new faint smell of the stale air escaping from the facility. She seems to be moving off.

Turning on his light, AD-hoc can see a little more of the room, the area your in currently is large and mostly empty, especially of things that want to eat you.

Ken rolls and heads towards the vehicles. They look to be some 'all terrain' type wheeled conveyance. There are about six of them and they each have 4 seats and a small cargo area.
May 29, 2025 9:30 pm
Ken will take a look in the cargo areas for any loot.
Jun 2, 2025 12:30 pm
Except for some dust, the vehicles look to be in good condition. The cargo area of each contains a small portable tool box.
Jun 2, 2025 2:40 pm
Creds looks around the room with a glow rod. "Any lights we can turn on? Maybe jack into a fusion generator or something?"
OOC:
Creds may have brought one of these along: https://star-wars-rpg-ffg.fandom.com/wiki/Draxton_DF-15_Medium-Yield_Fusion_Generator Unless it's too cheesy. I remember being underwater at work when we were shopping, so we agreed to let Creds have bought anything reasonable later.
Jun 2, 2025 5:53 pm
Not particularly excited by the prospect of a toolbox, Ken leaves them be - just shouting 'tools' to the others as he jumps out the back of the all-terrain vehicle. He checks to see if they can be started up - in case they need a quick getaway later.
Jun 3, 2025 7:50 pm
Ken slips into the driver's seat and flips on the power switch. Surprisingly, the dashboard lights up. The language, if thats what it is, isn't recognizable, but most of the gauges seem to indicate near empty.
OOC:
Creds could have certainly purchased one of those.
Jun 5, 2025 2:24 pm
Being conf8dent that the creature is leaving Zailor joins the others, Where do we go from here?

Seeing if Creds was able to find the Fusion Generator before we departed. I think we established our base as Rarity +2. Boosts for the Mecantiler's Datapad, and assistance from a fellow PC. +1 advantage for the Cultural Etiquette Manual.

Looks like a total wash, so Creds wasn't able to find a fusion generator.
"Wish I woulda had more luck finding a fusion generator back before we left," Creds says with a grimace. "Guess we'll just have to rely on our glow rods and fusion lamps." He gestures toward the hallway. "Shall we see what's down yonder?"

Jun 9, 2025 1:50 pm
Ken starts heading deeper into the facility. It does seem to be a parking or landing area. You travel nearly 60 meters back before coming to a series of three doors. One is centered in the wall with the other two about 20 meters to the left and right. There's still no power but the doors are not locked and do appear to have a manual crank behind a clearly marked panel.

Jun 15, 2025 2:40 pm
"Suits me," Creds says with a shrug. "You don't do languages, do you, Hockey?" Creds claps AD-HOC on the shoulder. "If we could decipher whatever language this is, that'd go a long way to helping us."
OOC:
So, yeah -- either we pick randomly, or we get AD-HOC to try to translate this language, perhaps from data docs left in the vehicles in the first room? Not sure if he's that type of droid, though. Creds is Intellect 3 and no particular linguistic capabilities.
Jun 18, 2025 1:33 pm
OOC:
is that language anywhere else other than the vehicles? I could try and decipher it, I jut don't see the point
Jun 18, 2025 7:12 pm
OOC:
These doors must be marked? I'm just thinking we either go random, or we look for more information to have some way of making an informed choice. But in the interest of momentum, I think Ken should just pick and open.

Ken rolls the die on the ground. He picks it up and grind at the others. 'Straight ahead.' He gets onto the door crank.

Rolls

Door - 1 left, 2 middle, 3 right - (1d3)

(2) = 2

Jun 19, 2025 12:56 pm
Ken cranks on the center door handle, it has a little more resistance than expected, but opens despite the few screeches of metal on metal. Once open, the teams lights shine down a short corridor. At the other end is another door, silently waiting to be cranked open. Eager to proceed, Ken moves forward and cranks open that door. You've entered what appears to be a mess hall. There are about fifty tables arranged in a grid around the room. The center path, from the door your standing at to straight across the room is wider than most of the spaces leading to another door. There is a door on the right wall and on the left wall are two doorways, possibly the 'chow line'.
Jun 19, 2025 4:19 pm
"Seems like a waste of space. Could use an oil bath or recharge station." AD-hoc remarks
Jun 19, 2025 5:49 pm
Depending on what kind of food they served here, they might have an oil bath, just not the kind you are looking for.
Jun 19, 2025 6:57 pm
Starting to look around the mess hall, Ken's muttering to himself - 'Where's the bar?'
Jun 20, 2025 2:45 am
Creds whistles. The sound echoes through the deadness of the space. "That's a lot of tables. This was one helluva operation." He heads to the closest table and rubs his fingertip over the surface. "Wonder how long this place's been abandoned..."
OOC:
How much dust does he get on his finger?
Jun 20, 2025 12:22 pm
There is a noticeable amount of dust on the tables. However, from the tightness of the door seals and the base being in a mountain, it wouldn't be subject to the same amount of air flow as an above ground facility. Still, it's been abandoned for quite a while.
Jun 20, 2025 8:47 pm
Ken tries to get the doors on the left open, hoping to find some kind of bar.
Jun 22, 2025 4:44 pm
Ken approaches the doorways on the left, the doors are simple swinging doors that easily move as he pushes through them. Looking around, he sees that it truly is just a boring chow line type of setup. A line of empty pans from which food was served, a stack of meal trays and interestingly, a small bowl of possibly candy or mints sits at the far end of the line. Behind the serving line is a full kitchen, four cooking stations and several large doors on the far wall, probably refrigeration units.
Jun 23, 2025 1:37 pm
Ken pokes around in the kitchen looking for something a bit meatier than candy. Spying the freezer doors he braces himself for the cold and opens one up.
Jun 23, 2025 5:36 pm
Creds tries the door to the right side of the mess hall.
Jun 24, 2025 12:23 pm
Ken pulls on one of the freezer doors, the seal makes a whoosh as it opens. Apparently, the door seals were still intact. The air inside is not cold however, as the temperature controls have long been off. Relying on his scanner googles, he can see the shelves are fairly full. Most of the contents look a bit desiccated and despite, or maybe because, of their age, the odor is only mildly pungent.

Creds cranks open the door in the right wall and it opens directly into a smaller 'lounge' area. There are a few small tables with chairs, a couch and a small bar with 3 stools in front of it.
OOC:
Just realized that I forgot the door that would have been straight across the mess hall when you entered.
Jun 24, 2025 4:20 pm
Ken doesn't notice the smell, or rather, being Rodian - he actually quite likes it. Still, being a true predator he isn't going to snack on aged carrion.

He signals over the radio, 'Freezer is off but well stocked. Do we know why they abandoned the base?'
Jun 24, 2025 7:01 pm
Hearing Ken over the comm, Creds says, "No idea. But I just found the lounge. I'm gonna see if anything in here offers a clue. An old holo, maybe a music data tape. Maybe even the booze if there is any..."
OOC:
Anything like that lying around? If it's not labeled in Basic (or a language we speak), Creds will attempt a Negotiation check to ascertain the age of the booze. If there are any data tapes or holos, he'll collect them to check later when we find power.

Esidrix says:
OOC:

AD-hoc will head through that door.
Jun 25, 2025 12:41 pm
Creds moves through the lounge, there is a couple of flimsy publications stacked neatly on an end table by the couch. The language is definitely not Basic and the print is still sharp and bright. However, without sunlight to fade them, they could last for a long time. Behind the bar are dozens of alcohol bottles, the script on the labels matches the flimsy. The bar itself is neat and efficiently arranged. The glasses, stacked two high in a square of nine, imply that the number of expected guests was small.

AD-hoc cranks open the door leaving the mess hall. The hallway beyond is spacious, easily four beings wide and has four doors on each side before reaching another door.
Jun 26, 2025 3:25 pm
Creds surveys the shelf of bottles. Some of this might be a collector's item! He takes the cap off one of the more opulent bottles and gives the booze a whiff.
OOC:
Trying to get a sense of whether any of these boozes would be in demand elsewhere, as well as general ideas on how fancy this booze is on a scale of bathtub moonshine to barrel-aged cognac.

Guessing at difficulty, but figure most people can tell good booze from bad, with the added setbacks of unfamiliar culture and darkness.

Where as the top two shelves seem to contain smoother smelling drinks and based on the decorative design of the bottles, might have been a little expensive. Also, the three fanciest bottles do not appear to have ever been opened.

Creds swipes the three unopened bottles and grabs an opened bottle of mid-shelf stuff for Ken. He heads back to the main room to see what they've discovered.

Without any logical precedent for search patterns, AD-hoc chooses to start with the first door on the left.

Ken receives the bottle gratefully and gives it a sniff. He takes a swig and savours the aged flavour. Joining AD-hoc in the search with a new sense of bravado. He shares the bottle around.
OOC:
Can Ken figure out how old these drinks are/how long they've been open?

Ken's had better, but he can't really remember when. The seal on the cap is in good shape and the dust on the bottle is consistent with the rest of the environment. With the sealed environment, it could be a hundred or a thousand years. Though, the trees outside growing up through the perma-crete indicate probably closer to the latter.

AD-hoc opens the first door he comes to, and it's an office. A single desk sits with a version of a computer. The keyboard is in the same script as the flimsy that Creds had found. There's a stack of polymer squares on the side of the desk, possibly portable data storage for the computer. Beside that is a blank display, about 6 inches wide by 3 inches tall.

"I don't think anyone will object if we take this to search for data later." After confirming the computer also doesn't have any power, AD-hoc will pack up it and the squares.
