Character Creation Discussion

Second level. Anything in the PHB is allowed. If you roll for stats (4d6 drop lowest), do so in this forum for character creation. Equipment as per PHB +100 gp. No evil alignments.

This will be combat and action heavy, and I anticipate damage dealers and controllers to shine.

If you want to try rolling your stats (might as well try - characters with low stats will be given the stat array as an option), try it by:
- click the Red Advanced button below
- add a BASIC dice roll,
- in the "Reason" box type "Stats" or something as the description, and
- in the "Roll" box, type: 4d6,4d6,4d6,4d6,4d6,4d6
- leave Visibiliy as "Hide nothing"
Note: you'll have to drop the lowest yourself.

When you post, the roll will be added to the bottom of your post.

Let everyone know what type of character you're playing (race, class, background), so those adverse to duplication can avoid such.

To create a character sheet:
- click "Characters" at the top under the Gamersplane logo
- at the bottom, under New Character, fill out the Label (name, perhaps), choose D&D 5 as the system, and the type as PC.

Once you've created the character, partially or wholly, then you can submit it to the game, by:
- click "Games" at the top under the Gamersplane logo
- click the "Dangerous Prisoner" game
- at the bottom right, under "Submit a Character", select your char from the drop down list and click Submit
Note: the character can still be edited after you submit it.

No established setting.

Standard pantheon is fine.

Marian Town is a crossroads in a temperate wooded forested area, but it is on a very large river (almost a mile across). Population is several thousand

On the character sheet, mark Prepared spells with an asterisk at the beginning of the spell name

Thinking about it and reading PHB again i rather go monk prob... i have an monk idea in mind that suddenly started brewing

Characters done and submitted, pretty happy with how Holnir Mithrilbritches has turned out :) although I couldn't figure out what to spend most of his money on as his starting gear pretty much covers everything he needs.

ok quick update im going wood elf monk, with an urchin as background... i have this streetfighter character in mind, gew up poor learned to fight dirty with kidney shots, low kicks, just dirty fighting. once taking a fight with a monk, got his ass handed to him, and started training in the monestary

oh quick question how much does a healing potion cost in this game?? because well wat mcneils5 said, basic equipment covers a lot.. and well never can have enought heaing potions

Healing Potions are in the PHB equipment section. I think they're 50gp each?

Never made a character before on this site, I'll try rolling and see what I get, otherwise I'll take a standard array like you said.

Would a cleric be useful? I'm thinking about trying to make a cleric that's not afraid to get in and do some damage as well.

I promise I'm not trying to sneak anything in that shouldn't be there... just doing my best.

Just submitted it. Human Cleric with a Soldier background. I think it has some damage potential but can still heal. Please let me know what I've messed up, lol.

ok quick heads up... in my background story, In my characters background (as shown in the seperate thread later today) he has had a rougth standing with High elves, and still has a deep hatred towards them, or at least he doesnt like them at ALL... so be aware

Barb wizard is difficult combo because when raging you cannot cast any spells or concentrate on them. so they really fight eachother, i wouldnt go for it but its your character

well take a look at the eldrich knight, paladin, or go warlock with potential at lvl 3 as a bladelock (pact of the blade) but the rage kills everything that has to do with magic

well i like that idea (Always big fan of enlarge and hit) looking at it, enlarge is a snd lvl spell, so as a wizard you will only learn 1 at lvl 3, and is a concentration spell so if you enlarge yourself, as soon as you rage you shrink back down.

GaztheDm - your monk looks great, and love the back story. I'm picturing the big wig high elf, Donal Stump, who cleared your village to make room for Stump Tower, haha. Add a special ability for Darkvision. If you could add your current and maximum Ki points to the notes section, that would be great.

thanks and haha well kinda. they almost build a wall to keep the wood elves away, I added a extra feat called current ki /maximum Ki, in the notes are my current ki/ maximum with the KI DC, if you want it in the general notes.. just give me a yell, oh and i added darkvision

McNeil5 - Holnir is good to go. Please add your strength modifier to your handaxe damage (1d6+3) so we don't forget - that bonus applies whether it is melee or thrown.

oh and i hope i didnt go overboard with the character background story... i am a writer for fun, i write game reviews (board games mostly) so creative juices got flowing and well sometimes it gets out of hand

Hitpoints correct - max 1st level = 8 + roll of 8 for 2nd + 1 x 2 for Con mod = 18
Skills correct - Human: none; Soldier: Int & Ath; Cleric: +2 from cleric list
AC, correct: 16+2
Speed, correct
Special Abilities, correct: spellcasting, Divine Domain, Channel Divinity (Turn Undead), Domain features
..Maybe put down somewhere in the Notes that you took the War domain
..Add somewhere in the Notes the maximum (3/day) and unspent Bolts of Inspiration
Spells: You get 6 prepared spells per day (Wis mod + level), plus the divine spells are always prepared and don't count against the 6, so add two more prepared spells.
..There isn't anywhere convenient to keep track of spell slots. You have 3 first level spell slots, so keep track of that along with the unspent slots in the Notes section.
Weapons - ..Warhammer attack bonus should be 5 (=Prof + Str mod)
..Warhammer damage should be 1d8+3 (incl Str mod)

..Light Crossbow attack correct 0 (=Prof + Dex mod)

actually (initiate nerd voice) a dagger is a finesse weapon, so it can either use STR or Dex as a bonus for attack and damage when thrown or be used as a melee attack

PHB p.163: You gain the hit points from your new class as described for levels after 1st. You gain the 1st-level hit points for a class only when you are a 1st-level character.

Speaking of multi-classing is it okay if I do it, since I already rolled for 2nd lvl HP with a d12? Given it is the lowest number possible, I'll take the 1+3 if that's what it takes.

I would say go for it, multi classing doesnt change stats or anything, you just get some extra skills, and since your HP roll could go with any class it doesnt change a thing

Onci, remember that you have the stat array as an option even after the roll. Also, the adventure will entirely be in am urban environment.

Snowycoldfood - The class you take at level 1 gets max, all other levels regardless of a new class or but get hp rolled.

HypCo: if you want to multi class, go for it.

HypCo - character looks fine. I note that you applied Expertise by changing the skill name to include the revised bonus, which is clever. However, your Expertised Perception bonus should only be +5.

Ah thanks, you are correct, I knew I was going to miss something, should be fixed now. I did mark everything I bought with an asterisk, in case you want to double check if the coin matches up, I believe I added everything correctly though.

Thank you, it isn't a secret, it's my first time multi-classing, just kinda forgot to add it to the story, should be easy enough to add in. But if you can't wait for the backstory update, you can click Rybia's avatar and it will bring you to his character sheet were you can see all his juicy deats.

ok didnt know that :P but cool Multi class rogue barb, eventually the reckless attack will allow you sneak attack on solo targets :D

The clicking the character avatar to see the sheet isn't automatic. By default, it is hidden from other players in the same game. However, you can set it 'viewable' in the Character listing page (i.e., hit Characters in the top bar) - one of the buttons 'adds it to the library'.

Thank you so much for the detailed break down. This is exactly what I needed.

I just updated my character to reflect this. I'll pick up two more spells this afternoon when I have a chance to look at the PHB and I haven't spent any of my gold yet so I might buy a different ranged weapon that uses STR instead.

On my spell caster I put my spell slots along with the components in the weapon section, as it is right next to your spell list. I think that is pretty convenient.

Change my dex from 13 to 14 and my wisdom 12 to 10 (willing to change it to 9, to compensate the change).

Still no word from Onci. And it is Snowycoldfood's turn before the poor, misguided, obviously bespelled, locked-up criminals try to take all of your shinies.

Weekends are pretty slow in general on the weekends, for reasons that probably vary widely but nearly universally. I'm generally more available on most weekends, but combat particularly can't leave people behind.
