Elma does her best to follow more quietly this time…

Rolls

Elma Mork Borg: Agility - (1d20+0)

(20) = 20

OOC:
Wow, what's with all these crits?!?
Jotna

You make it to where Borda is easily. On your way there your lizard senses take over in the darkness, your eyes adjust to be able to see much better than a regular person would. To the side, in between 2 of the bunk beds you see a large chest with a lock on it. Next to the chest, in the beds you now see the shape of 2 goblin-like creatures. The bed sheets are already on the floor, so you can see that they are wearing quite nice clothes. Something that servants of a rich family might wear.

The 2 creatures, as well as another behind you, are chained to the bed with heavy chains. Even though they are struggling to free themselves they don't seem to be able to. Manacles hold their arms and legs together and a large chain stretches all the way around the bed to keep them in place.
Elma

You are right next to Jotna, but without the excellent sight. Though that doesn't seem to matter as you tip-toe around the room like you've lived there for years.

As you near Borda, you hear a voice inside your head. "Don't trust the hanged woman." It's Malista's voice. Apparently she's managed to reach out to you. But just as soon as it appeared, the voice is gone again. Once again replaced by the sound of chains and creatures struggling to get free.
Merkari is still at the stairs, but the 3 others can reach the door without issue. If you can get some light again, Merkari can also join the group with ease.

What does everyone do?
Jun 24, 2025 12:26 pm
Having reached the door first and then suddenly feeling crowded, Borda will attempt to open the door so they can leave this room.
Jun 24, 2025 8:13 pm
Jotna puts a hand on Borda's shoulder and whispers, "Look. A chest. We should open it. And did you notice these people in bed are goblins, chained down?"
OOC:
Is the implication that ALL of the beds in the room (all the ones that are occupied, at least) have chained goblins?
Jun 25, 2025 11:52 am
OOC:
Yes, all the beds containing figures appear to be goblins.
Borda, don't forget that you bumped into a coin purse on your way. ;) Unless you are ignoring it intentionally.

Jotna, the others can't see the chest. Its because of your lizard eye-sight. The room is still very dark.
Jun 25, 2025 12:51 pm
OOC:
I remember it, but I'm not willing to go searching for it until I crack the door open and we have a little light. Then I can make the decision to pick it up or now that I know there's a chest maybe take a crack at that. Again, once I have a little light to work with.
Jun 25, 2025 1:53 pm
Elma shudders as Malista's voice invades her head, but the cold shiver disappears as quickly as the voice.

How could she listen to a hanged woman? Wouldn't she already be dead?

She hurries to stay close behind the others, the rattling of chains only making her anxiety worse. After all, if they are goblins as Jotna says, there must be a reason they are chained down. Hopefully the next room will have light to relight the oil lamp she holds.
Jun 25, 2025 3:07 pm
Realizing that only she can see thew chest, Jotna heads over by herself to examine it. Can she open it?
Jun 26, 2025 7:41 am
OOC:
Borda, ok good. Just wanted to make sure you didn't miss that part :)
You can describe picking it up. It contains 56 silver.
As Borda opens the door, a streak of light comes in from the next room. Now you can see the room you are in better. The figures on the beds are indeed goblins. Their ugly faces are crunched up as if snarling without sound. They move franticly trying to get our of their chains, which seem to be too strong for them. The top bunks also contain 3 such goblins.

The game room shows itself again but this time it looks very different. Instead of the fancy looking room with luxurious furniture, you see a room that's dilapidated and a big mess.

Along with the light comes the wailing of people. The stuffed animal heads that lined the walls of this room earlier have been replaced by the heads of humans. They look almost mummified but appear to still be alive. They wail in agony.

There are no more tree roots coming down from the ceiling, instead you see thick ropes coming down, each of which is tied around the neck of a person. One of them, a woman, opens her eyes and calls out to you in a raspy whisper of a voice. "Help us! Please help us!" Her arms weakly reaching out in your direction.
Elma

The game room does indeed have some oil lamps along the wall that you could use to relight your own light, but you'd have to get close to the heads.
Jotna

With the extra light now in the room you see that the chest has a lock that could fit the key you found earlier. However, it's 'guarded' by a goblin on either side and even though they are chained, if you're not careful they could reach you while standing at the chest.
OOC:
If you want to open the chest, I'll need you to make an agility DR 12 to dodge the goblins. Unless you have another solution.

Merkari
You can now also see the room and are able to join your companions if you so wish.

Glancing into the next room to confirm nothing is coming Borda scoops up the pouch and tucks it into his shirt for now. Having turned to pick up the pouch, he now sees the chest and goblins. "I can probably unlock the chest, but we should kill the goblins first."

Borda pulls out his sling and readies a stone, but pauses to see if there are other opinions.
Jun 26, 2025 9:00 pm
Elma eagerly moves forward to the light, but she is horrified at the change to the game room and her eyes are immediately drawn to the hanging woman reaching out to them.

"U-uh, I think the mansion lady said to not trust that hanging woman..."

As she finishes, Borda speaks up about the goblins and the chest. She turns around to see the conundrum her companions are in.

"I-if there are any knives we can get downstairs, maybe we can pin down their chains so they don't r-reach you?"
Jun 26, 2025 9:57 pm
Jotna attempts to reach the chest without being grabbed by goblins. If one should touch her, she brings down her unbreakable club onto its head!

Rolls

Agility DC 12 - (1d20)

While Borda and Elma make plans to kill the goblins, Jotna is already moving to the chest. She manages to get there without being in reached.

The key that she found in the kitchen fits the lock and with a twist it opens up. The chest is filled with mostly servant's clothing, but underneath is a small jewelry box that has some pretty looking golden jewerly in it. 2 rings, a bracelet and a necklace with a ruby inlay. It's odd that servants would have this kind of luxury, but perhaps it was an heirloom or it was stolen.

The woman in the game room is still calling out to you all. "Help us! We are dying! Running out of time."

On the other side of the room, near the stairs, you hear a metalic crack and see that one of the goblins managed to break the chain of one of its bonds. It's still tied around its wrist, but no longer attached to the bed. Still flailing its arms, the chain starts to whip around the room near the stairs.

Merkari, who is still down there will have to deal with that to join the rest of the group.

What do you want to do?
Jun 30, 2025 10:17 pm
Jotna quickly takes the items that seem valuable and turns to the others and says, "I say we clear outta here, into the game room. Merkari! Come on! We're moving!" She calls out to Merkari, hoping they hear her, before turning toward the exit to the game room.
OOC:
Pocketing the whole jewelry box

Merkari had been in some sort of daze. A religious trance, perhaps? When Jotna calls for her, though, she snaps back to reality and giggles as she moves to join the others on their way to the game room. She tries to dodge past the goblin's whipping chain.

Elma will send a second sling stone at the goblin if Borda's attack is not enough.

When everyone is out of danger, she will venture out a step into the game room to look around. She tries to ignore the hanging woman, even as her voice grows louder with pleas of desperation. She tries to identify a spot to relight the lamp with the least amount of monsters that could reach her.

OOC:
It's a DR10 to hit these goblins. That means Elma still misses though. 3 damage is not enough for a kill.
As Elma and Borda try their best to subdue the goblin on the far side of the room, Merkari sees her opportunity to rejoin the group. Unfortunately, they are unable to kill it. The wild thrashing of the chain attached to the goblin's wrist strikes her leg. The chain feels rough. Like it's been corroded or wasted away for many years, giving it sharp edges and a rough sandpaper like surface. It rips at Merkari's armor.

At the same time one of the goblins next to the chest also breaks free. This one manages to get rid of both restrained hands and sits up straight. You notice that its legs are not chained, it will likely come and attack you. The other 4 goblins are now more fiercely pulling at their chains but have not broken out yet.
OOC:
Everyone please roll me a DR12 presence test. If you have any experience in the medical field you can use DR8.

Dmbrainiac, you can use your heavy armor to absorb 1d6 damage.
Players are up.
