Dalton would help the others in whatever way he could. Once camp was setup, be would stand watch for any other surprises,

"I don't know what was in those vials, but I wish they had given us more of them. If we ever run into another village, we may have to see about trading for them, although I don't think we have anything of value. God I hope we are not here long enough to learn how to skin animals and trade pelts - although they seem to keep coming to us."

He looked out at the jungle, "I should have watched more survival series... like those where they drop a guy in the woods naked. Who would have thought that was a future life lesson. My brother-in-law would thrive here - hunter, fisher - skins his own animals. Real outdoorsman..." Dalton shakes his head, realizing he is just rambling, he grows quiet and lets people rest as he keep watch.

After setting up camp, Al would sit down with the others while listening to Dalton speak.

You’re telling me, I only watched nature documentaries which are amazing to watch… but less relevant when the animals are trying to rip you apart. At least I could remember how to put together a basic shelter.

Al glances upwards, trying to see the sky through the jungle canopy.

I wonder what’s going on back home…
Apr 22, 2025 3:04 pm
"Bah, I never left the city. There aren't enough opportunities out there in nature. I mostly waited around for the rich people to leave for their holidays...easy pickings." He missed being home; he hated this jungle and everything in it. "You know what I miss most? Showers! And not having different kinds of blood or ichor on my clothes and on my body."

OOC:
...Burning another hero point... Well, I think this disease might kill me at this rate, gang! Edit: Nevermind, Brainy said stage 2 is as bad as it gets lol.
AJ gave a nod of gratitude to Dalton as she handed off most of her gear and camping supplies. Moving to the new encampment was arduous. More than once she was tempted to collapse on the ground or set fire to the trees out of raging despair. It was followed by a night just as agonizing than the last. She twisted, turned, and groaned feverishly. Her moments of lucidity were populated by the terror that she might actually be dying. If it was just the disease, then maybe it would have been fine, but the hellishly humid and hot jungle climate merely compounded matters. In the morning, the weakened woman would call out to the others.

"I still feel awful. Not any better."

"Let's get you some more rest. I am feeling fine now, so I am sure it's not deadly. We should try to move a little bit every day so we won't get attacked again. The sooner we make it to the town, the better. I've had it with this place. Time to go home."
Apr 22, 2025 11:16 pm
"I will second showers - the hotter the better."

Seeing that AJ was still struggling with the illness. "I'm sure you will get through it, just take a little bit longer."
Apr 23, 2025 6:13 pm
"Just tell me whatever we need to do and I'll do it. I don't want to die from some bug in this hellhole of a jungle."

AJ sat there, simply trying to rest while clutching at her stomach. There has to be someone who can help me treat this back at civilization. Hopefully I don't die before then.

Al nods in unison with his companion’s words.

"I can take point, maybe I’ll blend in with the trees."
OOC:
Once we travel, Al will use the Detect Magic exploration activity:

You cast detect magic at regular intervals. You move at half your travel speed or slower. You have no chance of accidentally overlooking a magic aura at a travel speed up to 300 feet per minute, but must be traveling no more than 150 feet per minute to detect magic auras before the party moves into them.

Novac looks at AJ "Me and Dalton can take turns carrying you, we don't need to go fast as long as we're moving"
OOC:
Novac will use search again

You travel slowly, taking turns helping AJ along as she continues to suffer from the sickness. Despite the pace, by the time evening approaches, you are able to reach the banks of the river. Under Al's direction, you set up a secure camp nearby. The fresh water from the river is a welcome addition to your provisions. No creatures disturb you during the night.
OOC:
AJ may make another Fortitude save against the disease. You can build a serviceable raft to travel down the river by spending a day of downtime and succeeding at a DC 15 Crafting check. One person can make the primary roll and others may roll to Aid if they desire.

Al Survival - (d20+7+2)

As they setup camp, Dalton goes through his healing kit, finding the things which seemed to help him. He then compares notes with Novac and Al as to what worked for them in an attempt to determine what might best help AJ recover.
OOC:

One of use should make a medicine check for AJ. I'm thinking the other two can make Aid checks for that if needed. I believe the Aid is the same roll.

Post Roll: Guess Aid isn't required :)

OOC:
iirc, Brainy said treat disease takes 8 hours and prevents us from making progress in travel due to the time constraint. But I'll roll with the +2 and we can just ignore it depending on the ruling. Edit: Natural 20! Hell yeah! I believe that means my success is turned into a crit success. So, I'm cured regardless of the treat disease? Waiting for Brainy to confirm. :) Edit 2: I am indeed cured!
AJ drags herself alongside the other, accepting the offers of help from her companions. The idea of someone else carrying her rattled loose a significant feeling of vulnerability. I'm not sure if it's just because I'm a woman now, but it certainly doesn't help. Despite the discomfort elicited by the feeling, she wouldn't resist. Pain and fatigue from the illness crushed any notion of resisting. Refusing help would be stupid. The sight and sound of the flowing water was beautiful after feeling suffocated by the seemingly endless trees of the jungle.

"Great, I'm going to lie down now."

She collapsed nearby, too tired to do or say anything else. Seeing Dalton approach and help with her recovery managed to give her the energy for two more dry words before she was done until the morning.

"Thanks, superhero."

With relief that AJ was feeling better, Novac surveyed their situation. Well, at least the water issue is resolved. He took the chance for a quick wash, though a prickle of unease kept him near the bank, his eyes darting across the water. Who knows what kind of things could be lurking in there? "You know, I watched a ton of National Geographic in prison," he said aloud. "There was this one raft-building episode. Didn't strike me as rocket science. And I think we have thematerials. Just don't expect miracles if it falls apart," he finished with a smirk.

Listening to the murmur of the plants around them, Al snapped back to attention at Novac’s words.

Well, I’m willing to give it a shot. Can’t be any worse than what we’ve already experienced. I’ll gather some wood.
OOC:
Al will use the Aid action. (Straight roll, here goes nothing)

Yikes, that’s a crit fail so unfortunately -1 to the check.

Aid - Build raft - (1d20)

Apr 24, 2025 5:22 pm
After Al provided completely useless dry sticks, Novac resolved to gather his own supplies. With a sigh, he prepared the rope and other tools, drawing on his memory of a documentary.
OOC:
Novac obviously should have paid more attention. Lets try a hero point. I used one at the very beginning of the game so i should have another one.
Well I wasted 8 hours since it's not a crit fail i still should have the materials.
Novac struggled remembering the way the crew assembled the raft but obviously couldn't recall how it was done properly. In his defense those prison break rooms where loud.

Dalton pulled a wood axe out of his pack and checked the sharpness of the blade. "The theory is always easier than the practice."

He looked out at the river. "I know she said to take the river, but considering all the creatures we have seen, anyone want to guess at the size of alligators out there?"

Dalton would try to find some good logs and vines for materials for the raft building effort.
OOC:

We are all going to drown :(

You spend the day struggling to put a raft together. Unfortunately, your efforts are unsuccessful. You'll have to try again tomorrow. As you are preparing to leave the riverside, though, what looked at first to be just a log floating down the river reveals itself to be a hungry crocodile! Before you can even react, the crocodile surges up out of the water, clamping its jaws shut painfully around Al's midsection! Its teeth dig into his flesh as it grabs a hold and tries to perform a death roll. Fortunately, Al is able to resist being pulled to the ground. The croc releases Al and opens its jaws to prepare to attack again!
OOC:
Al takes 8 piercing damage. He was grabbed, but the failed death roll means the crocodile releases him. Everybody may act!

As the croc surges out of the water, Dalton cannot help but say the answer to his earlier question "Oh, about that big."

His shield was with his gear, so Dalton rushed to the aid of his friend without it, trying to attack the croc from the side.
OOC:

Action 1: Move
Action 2: Inner Upheaval - Flurry of Blows
Action 3: ??? Recall knowledge on croc weaknesses (I need to research more 3rd actions)

Dalton is attacking from one side - Novac should be able to Flank on the other. Al - keep it distracted :)
