Looks good! Give the man 6 Grit to start and me a minute to brew up a suitable adventure...

Some questions:

♦ You picked Oklahoma for a reason? I'm planning on setting the game around 1870, and it's still the Indian Territory at that time. Certainly there was a huge mix of people there, though, including white ranchers, freed slaves, and *many* different tribes / nations.

♦ The Duncannons own the Double D, is that right?

♦ Trigger. Seriously? 😂

♦ The Rangers most recently battled the Comanche in the 1850s. That work for what you were thinking? He was a Ranger 10+ years ago? Or should we shoot for more like the mid 1860s?

♦ Thoughts on what Martha's husband is like, or is that fully in my hands?

♦ Might make sense for Milt to just recently have hired on with the Double D. Would that work?

I only picked Oklahoma because it is near Texas, I’m ok changing it if you want.

♦ The Duncannons own the Double D, is that right?

No, the Double D is where Milt is employed as a foreman, a different spread.

♦ Trigger. Seriously? 😂

I was using it as a placeholder and never changed it. That said Trigger is better than Mr. Ed …

♦ The Rangers most recently battled the Comanche in the 1850s. That work for what you were thinking? He was a Ranger 10+ years ago? Or should we shoot for more like the mid 1860s?

That works, I figure he was 18-20 when he joined the Rangers and if he is in his 40s now that puts us to the 1870s. If you want to push it back to the 1860s we could. I’m thinking he served with the Rangers during the Civil War and that’s when he was injuried or he was injuried prior and considered not fit to serve, which isn’t very likely…

♦ Thoughts on what Martha's husband is like, or is that fully in my hands?

Fully in your hands, Milt might have known him when he was at the Duncannon Ranch or it might be someone he never met.

♦ Might make sense for Milt to just recently have hired on with the Double D. Would that work?

That’s fine. Maybe he worked there a short while but has just been promoted to foreman?

Alright, with those answers in hand (thanks), let’s tweak and button this down.

See how you feel about all this, based on the current year being 1870.

1828 Milt’s born on the Dale family ranch in northern Texas, up near the Indian Territory.
1831 Milt’s mother dies.
1844 When Milt is sixteen, his father Jedediah sends him to the ranch of his old Army friend, Aloysius Duncannon.
1848 The Duncannon girl, Martha, turns fifteen and captures Milt’s heart. They spend the next three years in love, and start planning a life together when…
1850 The Comanche slaughter everyone on the Dale Ranch. Milt joins up with the Rangers and rides with them for the next ten years, Indian-fighting.
1860 After he’s badly hurt and his hearing irreparably damaged in a black powder explosion, Milt leaves the Rangers and returns to Duncannon Ranch where he hopes to reunite with Martha and wed her. Martha, however, has gone and married someone else in the meantime, at the insistence of her father Aloysius.
1861 Perhaps broken-hearted, Milt joins back up with the Texas Rangers and fights in the War Between the States.
1866 The war is over and Milt is on his own. He does cattle drive and ranch work all over Texas and part of what will eventually become the Oklahoma Territory for the next two years. He sees Martha from time to time, but its too painful to stay near her for long.
1868 Milt starts working at the Double D Ranch in the recently reclaimed Federal Lands in the Indian Territory, where freed slaves and other settlers are starting to move to.
1870 The current year — Milt has recently become foreman.

Please change any and all of this if you want! I’m just trying to bed some foundation stones so I can built adventures and shit on them. I like the idea of the Double D maybe being owned by a freed slave who needs ranching expertise, and of us exploring what will become Oklahoma as it starts changing hands. Lots of potential friction points.

Looks good! Would you rather the horse be named "Socks" or "Castano" as opposed to "Trigger"?

Any name you want! Trigger just seemed a bit much…

If you’re good with the above, I think we’re ready to roll! I’ll try to get the IC thread up tonight or tomorrow!

Sounds good! We’ll go with Castano in the hope you don’t kill him to death because his name bugs you ;)

AND I didn't kill Castano yet!

Also, starting to brew up some NPC pics. Let me know if you want something in the same style for Milt.

What is the schedule like for the hands? Do they get rotating breaks? When would this young stud normally have time to go to town?
Mar 28, 2025 4:09 pm
How are you counting?

12
34
56
78

Or

15
26
37
48
?

On Casey's schedule, I figure he gets the Sabbath off, so not a lot of time -- or means -- to get into town on his own. He's low man on the totem pole, too, probably doesn't have a horse and Preacher Daniels likely doesn't trust him to take a horse or wagon into town...

So you don't miss it, there's now a Who's Who.

Just a poke to keep the blood pumping in the game's veins...
