I am preparing to run Light of Xaryxis and run the Spelljammer Academy adventure on DND beyond before officially starting it, run in the default forgotten realms setting

I think the 2024 Barbarian was a much needed improvement upon 2014. Even if Rage alone was the only change, it would still be better.

Your info for the game looks good and I'm still interested.

To be perfectly honest, I can't pinpoint one thing I dislike about 5e; I just don't like it. I tried it (ran a campaign from level 1 to 20) and did not enjoy it. Maybe it is because I started with BECMI and cut my gaming teeth on 1st edition. Too many sweeping changes, perhaps. I do enjoy Pathfinder 1e, and I enjoyed 3.5 a lot. Nowadays, I play mostly PF1e or Savage Worlds, which is my preferred system of choice.

I’m down for either, I like both ok.

I'm really trying to commit to learning 2024, which is no easy task. I understand that people are sticking to what they know, but as I'm just getting into tabletop myself, I like to think playing 5.5 puts me and the other players closer to the same knowledge level than 2014.

I only have 5e. Nothing newer I couldn't play in the 2024 games I still don't get 5e enough to do a core book only lv 1 game yet.

2024 is close enough to 2014 that I often can't remember which system a particular game is in since I am in both. Given a little freedom in professions/feats rather than strictly hewing to the limited choices in PHB, I tend to like 2024 a bit better. It got rid of the GWF and Crossbow Expert bonuses that seemed a bit unbalanced and similar tricks that made certain builds unbalanced, adds a bit of combat inflation to most other builds, and does try to give another option to martials with the combat expertise thing which all were good things. Compared to other systems, even 3.5 or the like, still very similar mechanically.

I've gravitated towards other systems these days but I'm a bit stubborn and generally prefer 2014's edition, though they're not so different that it's a dealbreaker to me.

Either version is good. But 2024 has really improved on 2014.
