If folks want to use it, there is a template we use in other games that has some automation (will calculate halves and fifths on Attributes and Skills), and has buttons to auto-roll a Standard/Bonus die/Penalty die roll too:
Just press 'Create Character' top right on the sheet, and start filling in.

I personally prefer custom sheets. Have you any specification on creation method, Diogenes? I’d like to make mine with Heinrich’s which uses stat pools.

assuming all characters native to the islands will know each other since forever

I don't have any specifications for character creation. However you want to put it together, go ahead. Most of you are pretty experienced players by the sounds of it, so feel free to make a character in the way that's easiest for you. One common thread across all of my games (in-person or online) is that I'm typically more interested in how you interact with the game world itself, rather than what's on your character sheet.
When I'm running a play-by-post game, I always ask the players to just describe how they want to interact with the game world, then I take care of all the mechanical dice-rolling on my end as the need arises. That way, the game doesn't lose momentum because we're waiting on someone to roll their dice, or for someone to clarify what skill is appropriate for a particular task.

Ah, I’m glad you mentioned that. Dice rolling is a big part of the joy for me, so I think that’s a sticking point and I’ll bow out before I waste anyone’s time.

don't mind not rolling dice that much, if we can see the results on the GP dice roller - but... do you really want 15 players, as it says on the Games Details page? 😵💫
that would bring the game to paralysis even if the rolls are GM-facing, for sure. I have been round here for quite a while, and I have seen that anything with more than 5 players is pretty impossible to run. Small groups are best for PbP, 100% guaranteed. Downtime is a killer. To give you an example, I run all my PbP games with 3 players, which is on the low side, admittedly, but it works great.

I do enjoy the dice rolling but the lack of it isn't a dealbreaker for me, and I have the same concerns with the player count admittedly due to the nature of PbP.
May 15, 2025 5:17 pm
I don't expect that we'll fill all of the player slots, but I prefer to set it to a high number in any case, so I don't have to adjust it later.
As long as we have three or more players, I can run this scenario. I don't agree that larger games are impossible to run with play-by-post, however. I've had a great deal of success with large-party D&D games, using the older edition rules.

Hi folks, catching up on the conversation so far. Thanks for the invite, Diogenes. Couple of questions: what's the driver behind wanting do many players? And will the rolls be public, as DR_B asks? When in the 19th century were you thinking?
For the other players -- what kinds of professions / PCs are you thinking of?

Thinking of playing a shepherd, based on the 'Farmer' Occupation in the CoC Investigator handbook. Someone who knows the island well and is well adjusted to its nature and climate. A rugged outdoorsman, born and bred in the village where we start the story.

I’d like to play a soldier, Seaforth Highlanders, back on leave. Brawler and marksman.
Also keen to know the rough time period— early, mid, late 19th century?

Rolled high INT and EDU so I'm planning to play a village-born clerk (who moved elsewhere in search of a better life) coming back home to manage affairs after his father's death.

Time period will probably be early-mid 19th century, but this is a backwards little island so it shouldn't really matter what year it is exactly.
All of the character concepts sound good so far, just send them in and start posting in the gameplay channel when you're ready.

here is Gareth, a Shepherd (Farmer) built with Point-Buy using the Dholeshouse.org character generator.
A rugged outdoorsman, sturdy but not without charm.
If everything looks good, I will submit him to the game.

Here's my clerk, Samuel Blackwood. I used dice rolls for stats, let me know if everything is up to scratch and I'll submit him.

If you fill in a template from the second post of this thread, then submit it in the Games Details page, once accepted by gm your sheet will be viewable and editable from any thread of this forum (so you can edit stats as they change).
Otherwise you can only embed an image of the sheet, between the tags:
but it won't be editable.

I’ve been weighing up the game carefully—I’ve even made a character. But I think I have the same qualms about dice rolling and I would rather withdraw now than quit during play.

Here is my sheep farmer, Argus McKinley. I have submitted the character sheet as well

Sorry for the delay here. Kid's graduation, work, visiting in-laws and all sorts of things are throwing my schedule off. Should have a PC submitted on Weds...

Hey all happy to join in on this trip into madness.
I have only played CoC once before and that was with a pre-gen character, so very rookie to the system (though I have listened to a few live play podcasts).
Not effected by not rolling dice in game, but would like to see the results of said dice :)
I think I’ll just roll some stats up and work from there.
Str 60, Con 85, Size 55, Dex 65, App 90, Int 60, Pow 30, Edu 65, Luck 60
Wow this character is charming and stunning, but no will power whatsoever lol

If you wanted to, one of the optional character creation methods in CoC7 lets you assign values, swapping between attributes:

Low POW in CoC equals low SAN, which is a dangerous stat to keep low, in this game!

See you next time, snippity. GM, can you accept my PC sheet so I can post as her?
Jun 24, 2025 3:46 am
Wondering if this game is still ongoing, or has it died? There is very little posting and it is erratic, and the plot hasn't progressed much since we started on 14th May or thereabouts?
Jun 24, 2025 10:26 am
Work has literally been up my ass for the last couple of weeks, since someone went away on holiday, and I stepped up into their position. I basically had to learn how to do their job, and act in their position while they were away. They're back now though, so I'll be able to return to more regular posting.
