"Violence begets violence" The Woman took a step forward, walking bare feet over the earth. The great elk behind her shifted its weight once she started to move, as did the wolves, who lowered their heads and bared their teeth

"A life for a life. And they cut more than one tree. Crushed saplings. Ruined Nests. Root torn up and left to rot. You mourn for one life, I mourn for a thousand." her green eyes look cold and lifeless as she looks upon you "There is no agreement to be made here. They should count themselves lucky I decided to be....merciful"

"She's right, you know," Miyana says, indicating the elf. She looks around. "This is virgin forest. We do not belong here."
Jun 18, 2025 9:12 pm
I don’t disagree.

Let’s tell the loggers to move along or stay only at their own risk. They might already be leaving anyway, I don’t think the workers felt like sticking around.

I have…other business to tend to.

Will coughs lightly, his stomach maybe feeling empty as usual. And the tastelessness in his mouth. Still not used to that!

Milosh, what do you think?

"I don't like it" the druid looked lost. He had a bias for human lives over those of...tree branches, for obvious reasons, even though he was a druid "I'll...let the loggers know. And Lord Brun" he gave another look at the Elf, as more animals joined her from the forest. Wild boars this time. "I figure it is best we get out of here. Mouse!!!" As the last word leaves his lips, his body contracts with a wet, unnatural shiver. His arms draw in, legs fold beneath him, and his features dissolve into soft fur and twitching whiskers. In a blink, the old, naked, man is gone, replaced by a small, grey mouse. It gives one final annoyed squeak, then darts off into the underbrush, disappearing from your sight.

Will bows his head kindly to the elven Forest guardian. He says to Miyana, Will you kindly tell her please, simply, Halav is grateful for her good work.

Boudica dislikes this woman's arrogance. She acknowledges that elves often follow the tenets of Koive'Seul, which weighs non-human lives as valuable just as human--or elven--lives are, but the elven faith also calls the unnecessary killing of a living being a sin.

So Boudica asks, "My lady, had you asked the loggers to cease their work before you sent the animals to kill them? I would hate to think that you would kill living beings unnecessarily, when a simple conversation would have sufficed. And how far does your protection extend? To all trees in this land? Where ought those who need wood. or hides, or meat, get it?"

Miyana translates both statements, not really expecting an answer.

"I spoke in the language your kind understands" The Elf 'patience' is running thin; she doesn't answer any of Boudica's other questions, instead just looking at all of you in cold eyes and waits for you to leave.

I think it’s time to go, Will says discretely to his friends.

Boudica nods to Will and turns to leave without argument.

26th of Fyrmont, Nytdain

Kelvin, known in elder times as Lav, is one of the oldest cities in all of Karameikos. Standing where three mighty rivers meet (the Highreach, Windrush, and Hillfollow*), it was a major trading hub long before the Thyatians ever set foot in Traladara. In fact, The Song of Halav names it as the birthplace of the hero king himself, Ha-Lav, and the ancient stonework at the city centre stands as a monument to the time when Lav was the beating heart of a nascent civilization, before it descended into a millennia-long Dark Age.

Today, it is a different city - renamed for Baron Kelvin, the Thyatian noble who took stewardship under the Duke’s charter. With a population nearing twenty thousand, Kelvin is second only to Specularum in size and significance. It is a military stronghold, a center of trade, and; perhaps most importantly to some; a spiritual capital. The Church of Thyatis has its strongest presence here outside the capital.

Baron Desmond Kelvin is also devout servant of the Church; a ranking member of the Crystal Order, that austere brotherhood of warrior-priests sworn to defend the faith. He has shaped the city in the Church’s image; Tall new spires pierce the skyline, while Shrines to Halav, Petra, and Zirchev still exist, but they are few and growing fewer. New ones are not permitted, and old ones are allowed to fall into disrepair. The baron actively incentivizes conversion to the Church of Thyathis: those who convert enjoy reduced taxes, and much greater chance of finding employment in the city’s bureaucracy. In the eyes of many Thyatians, Kelvin is a model of progress: ordered, devout, and just. To the Traladarans, especially those who remember Lav as it once was, it can feel like something else entirely; a city forgetting its own name.

You reach the outskirts of the city in the early afternoon, the road winding gently down toward the river plains. The rain has eased some this further south from Threshold, but with Fall soon approaching, you can expect more bad weather for the months to come. You pass through the farmsteads stretching miles in all directions, and several fishing communities on your way, with the traffic on the Duke’s road becoming thicker and thicker as you approach the Kelvin.

The church spires and ringing bells welcome you to Kelvin long before you pass through the outer gates (together with groups of merchants, and pilgrims (both Traldaran and Thyatians)), just before they shut them down for the evening.

What do you do?

*the Highreach, Windrush, and Hillfollow are commonly referred to as Wufwolde, Shutturga and Volaga by the Traladarans.
OOC:
The closer Will travels to Kelvin, the more vivid his dreams become. He dreams of old Lav, with narrow streets and timber houses, and children playing barefoot in the mud. He dreams of a willful boy running through the streets; sometimes he IS the boy, and other times he watches him from a distance. He recognized the streets in the Old Quarter of Kelvin, where some of the stone buildings from his dreams still remain standing. There is one building he keeps reappearing in his dreams – a stone sanctuary built near where the three rivers met, which was once considered to be a sacred place. He also keeps dreaming of the redheaded young woman, but those dreams seem...different from the others.

Its like I’ve been here before, reflects our fightery fellow to his friends.

As the party makes the edge of the high-riding city, Will (coughs) mildly, trying to mask his inner discomfort. His legs surely growing weary from daily trek, he quips rather sarcastically, You know, a real hero of legend should ride into the city atop a great steed!

Then, he closes his eyes, and hopes. Just in case.

Boudica grows sullen as they approach Kelvin Lav. She’d been here before and seen the way her people are treated like second class citizens. The Baron’s disrespect for her Faith’s holy sites in particular upset her then.

Now she returns, having had a spiritual experience in the tomb of Halav, and possibly traveling with the hero reborn. And she is enraged. She feels an urge to murder the Baron and burn down the thyatian churches, but of course she would never do so; for even in her pain and upset, she still hews closely to the ways of Petra in particular. Like Petra, she is a fierce warrior, but she is not cruel.

As they arrive, Boudica notices what Will says, so she asks, "Does the spirit tell you anything? Is there something we should do here, or somewhere important we should visit?"
Jun 22, 2025 10:42 pm
Miyana, who finds cities in general crowded and distasteful, says nothing. She is sullen, as though something else occupies her thoughts.
Jun 23, 2025 1:25 am
Will pauses, and shrugs. Well, Boudica…I don’t really know. I mean…well I’m told, by the spirit, that Queen Petra is here. The spirit also seems to be…well, ever present? With me? So, let me just take a moment, and…and see…

Will’s voice sort of trails off, as he halts, closes his eyes, and tries concentrating.
Where is Petra? Lead me to her.

Our fightery fellow stands stalwart for a moment, attempting to create an air of quiet reverence. Hopefully, his request may befall upon kind spiritual ears.

In truth, though, he also really wants that horse.
My legs are killing me…

Will doesn't manage to summon a great steed, but he does manage to evoke the voice of the spirit:
"Petra waits for you where the Three meet" the spirit refers to the same stone shrine you've seen in your dreams "You've been there before. You know the way. Go now; Petra lies at its foot"
Jun 23, 2025 12:38 pm
I’m told, by the spirit, to find Petra lying at the foot of where the Three, capital Th, meet.
I am supposing, that refers to the Three being Halav, Petra, and Zirchev. Right?

Boudica nods and says, "It must refer to them, yes. But... I don't know where they met, aside perhaps from somewhere here, in Lav. Do you see anywhere specific? Maybe you know the way without realizing it?"
Jun 23, 2025 3:25 pm
No, I don’t see anywhere specific. If I know the way without realizing it, I wouldn’t know about it. Do you think I should just start walking?
Jun 23, 2025 4:37 pm
Ah, now I remember! We go to where the three Rivers meet. I know the way, if you great people will follow me please.
