Crew Creation

The Crew is a shared element, so, it's good to have a place to discuss which one the game is going to use, how how its Advances are spent.

So, currently, we have two half-votes for a Vanguard or a Front-Liner Crew. We need to zero that in a little, and get a take from Harrigan.

I will put my vote into Vanguard. If others don't want vanguard, I'll vote Front-Liner crew.

Catching up tomorrow I hope, but... where is the discussion / voting for the Crew type?

I'd collected kind of a rough vote in the Interest Check thread, just so I could start getting my ducks in a row. Not much in the way of discussion yet.

Any word from the 3rd player? Looks like they still haven't accepted

I sent them an invite, but I've received no PM's, and they still haven't accepted. According to GP, they posted something less than a day ago, but that's all the data I've got.

edit: I'll give 'em a prod after work tomorrow if they haven't found their way to us by then.

I was -just- looking for where I asked Cel that question. Agree -- in fact, I'd like to know that before building the 'past' and 'future' stuff.

Looking at the lore... I would vote that we are allied with ARES, or with CASPR but over the course of the game are challenged with inertia, bureaucracy, and whether we should abandon ship and join up with ARES...

@Harrigan - I'm down with Vanguard, I think I said Vanguard or Assault back in the interest thread. Still trying to pour over the book and get my head around my options. Did I read correctly we are creating 2 characters? If so, are we running them both or just having the backup on standby in case of death?

I think we get only 1 character, but we get 2 moves instead of 1

Ironmonger has the right of it. Harrigan made a comment about Troupe play, but I have a history of biting off more than I can chew, so I'm keeping my ambitions comfortably attainable at the moment :P

Okay, so, I feel like the Crew discussion has spiraled out into other threads, I'm going to try and consolidate where we're at on this for the moment.

In case it's not clear, a Faction is the headliner for a group (ARES, CASPR, Wraiths of Mars, Vitruvian Institute, etc.). A Squad is one of the sub-groups (The Aggressors, New Ithaca, Ghost, The Human Plus Program, etc.). The Squads do not have to line up with your Faction choices, though squads who don't align with their factions are subject to pressure through The Shakeup mechanic.

Is there anywhere we can find a 1 to 2 sentence summary of the factions you have in play? Something as simple as:

and maybe something similar for squads?

Ah, I didn't realize that was unclear. The Factions & Reputation thread has each Faction, their associated Squads, and the Tier of each. If you want me to expand the super-short squad descriptions, I certainly don't mind, I just didn't want to break the tables too hard.

Just a cursory read, I think:
A Faction that the Crew has worked with. ARES
A Faction that the Crew has worked against. CASPR
A Squad that the Crew has worked with. Cygnus or Cerberus
A Squad that the Crew has worked against. Sol Defense Force

Perhaps the crew we worked against is regulators, focused on police work and pulling resources ARES thought should be used for the fight against the aliens

As for work with, my character would make sense with Cygnus or Aggressors.

Before I dig in to the new stuff that Cel wrote... were we, as a unit, perhaps deployed out to Jupiter and saw that carnage first-hand?

For reasons I want to keep eyes off of the destruction of the Jovian Colonies. That said, the vibe I'm getting from everyone is that they're eager to get to the Martian Front, and they say a good creative should be willing to kill their babies.

Esidrix, would you be terribly offended if we characterized the PC Crew as Mars-based Regulators who refused the call to return to Terra and Luna? That was kind of what you had pitched before, and I suggested you change it. If everyone starts there, however, I avoid the imbalance of information that was there before.

If we go that route though, the Crew may want to change the Faction the Crew Worked with from ARES over to the Martian Armored Division (MAD).

I'm okay with that. If you'd prefer, we can say m wife and kid loved on Mars and were one of the first killed if that is easier than jupiter

I like the connection to Jupiter because it helps ground that tragedy in the narrative, honestly.

Oh, one more question: Do we want to name the Crew?

Well, honestly, if you don't I will. Mwa ha ha.

I feel like until we have a good feel for the kind of crew we are, i'm not going to really have a good idea for a crew name.

Perhaps Crimson Daredevils? Maybe the Madcaps? Or perhaps a more military sounding name like Alpha42

Regulators, Mount Up!! - @Celestine - was that a serious question :) ? From an in-game lore kinda thing. Naming yourselves is sorta Fiction-y. Groups traditionally got their names from the 'media' of the day. Much to the chagrin of the authorities. I'm totally cool with being the last members of squad Alpha42. Which is how we think of ourselves, but the coverage of our escapades being christened with some 'silly' Media name. Occasionally, in a bar, we kick some civilians butt over the reference, since we never approved it. (Yeah, I'm good with the change :) )
