The group pushes through the flames, each suffering minor burns as they go (damage is rolled below, make a DC 15 Fortitude save for half-damage).

Tarna
Tarna calls back to Airn, "Undermountain was created by the 'Mad Mage' Halaster. He used it as a base of operations for his experiments until his death."

Once you reach the next level, the flames fade into nothingness and you find yourselves in another corridor. The group follows the directions of Tarna's magical arrow around a twisting maze of corridors and passages until they come to yet another staircase going down. This is followed by another series of seemingly endless passages, but finally, they come forth into a huge, sprawling cavern. Within the great cave can be seen dozens of buildings, built atop one another, forming a makeshift city.

Tarna
"Welcome to Skullport," Tarna says sardonically. "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. Be on your guard."
