The original idea for this character felt too epic in scope, so I've tampered them down to one that need not leave the bounds of the city.

There are some details I've not filled out, mostly on the relationship/faction side. Or the Passions. Which I might add to tomorrow, but I think there is enough of a concept to start play somewhere. Often I build as I play.

I'm sorta going with the assumption most bars are good places to learn of opportunities. Plus at this point a paying gig is a good start. If you are ever unsure of the intentions of my post, feel free to ask me for clarification! Sometimes something makes sense in my head, but doesn't translate to others.

I would like to give you an extra items(s) that Orryn Fiddlefield has crafted.

Was it a couple of alchemical items (bombs/potions)? A magical firearm (pistol)? A clockwork construct? What do you think (want)?

Ooo, I'll think of a few to pitch tomorrow. Kinda too tired for creativity. The goal, unless its unrealistic, is non-magic stuff but it's basically technology in FR. Or at least the early start of it.

Firearm could be neat and I could just have modified the crossbow to look mundane, but it fires explosive bolts or something. Since damage isn't changed between weapons that'd be fun.

But a nifty utility beyond that would need a few moments pondering with a mug of coffee in the morning.

Would you like me to delay leaving the tavern scene tomorrow? I think we might have one or two exhanges before I can see Orryn moving to the other one. That hook is gonna easily grab this PC.

Few ideas:
Crossboom - Effectively a reskinned crossbow, but probably very loud.
Illumina - A one hour "torch" that produces no flame and can be used in high wind or shallow waters. Think like a big glowstick.
Obscura - Produces smoke to obscure a small area. Pretty much a smoke grenade.

I'm sure I can make more in time, but don't want to have too much straightaway. Gotta have things to do later on.

A future idea:
Clerica - Effectively super glue for wounds. Minor healing item.

Okay! So I will give you a Crossboom and a smoke grenade (with this straightforward name, otherwise I will forget what your item does =)))

Sounds good! I've added them to the character sheet. For the Crossboom, I'd need to also have craftable ammunition. Unless we wanna just say it propels regular bolts/arrows. How do you wanna handle that?

You can have Crossboom ammunition.

I have updated the Adventuring Gear section to rename from arrows to ammunition, so we can include (regular) bolts and those for your weapon. =)

I have taken Magic Artisan as a trait. This will reflect the knowledge he has picked up in the tenday of work. Though he can now work with magic, it is not his personal goal. So, if Orryn was allowed to work on his own project. He wants to make a mechanical replacement for torches. The open flame is problematic around explosive substances (as experience has shown) and he wishes to find a solution that does not require spells such as light. This can be a chemical reaction of stored potential that only reacts when the compact cylinder is pulled open. Sorta like the lanterns we have that collapse down into a more compact form, but the act of opening it starts the reaction. If we wish to balance this use with torches, it can be that the substance inside needs replaced after so many cycles (this would be like how the packs work, a roll would decide if the substance was spent and needs replaced).

If there was more time, I would do more, but I think a tenday is already a small amount of time to try and invent a new device.

Adding after noticing Turanel2's plan to recruit Orryn for [Property for Sale – Cheap]. Orryn does wish to open up his own shop one day. Maybe that day could come sooner than he realized. Sounds like we have our next venture.

Oh, and on the subject of Hornrock. One of Orryn's goals there is to be able to figure out the state of the adventurer's soul. Try, if possible, to split it from Hornrock. Either to allow it to move on, or transfer to it's own vessel. Probably just move on.

If not now, it'll be an over time goal.

I actually want to balance that with a "magical" item... something similar to Continual Flame. What do you think it could be?

You succeeded! Let's say you used magic and expensive components to craft one capsule and the chemicals but after that, it works like a glowstick.

It can either give you bright light for a few combat rounds or dim light for a couple of hours, depending on how you activate it. It could also be replenished somehow... Maybe by heating it for extended periods, like putting it in a fireplace? What do you think?

So, we have established something known as a heatstone. What if the creation houses a heatstone which excites chemicals in the device, creating the light. The heatstone would be almost a battery of sorts for purposes of longevity.

So, you have a portable chemical device, powered by heatstones. In that case, it would last for days but be harder to refuel, as you would need another heatstone?
