Commerce: Miss Fortune at Jokotre

Jun 1, 2025 4:10 am
Miss Fortune has docked at Jokotre High Port and disembarked its low-passengers and one middle passenger. It's 5-days before getting clearance from the Religious Dictatorship to travel to the "Machines-are-Us" construction site on planet, but the company pays the fees and handles everything to do with getting the needed permits. (I don't believe anyone engaged in trying to sell your speculative cargo of non-prescription painkillers during this time?)

6 dTons of Freight was discharged to its owners at the High Port. 50 dTons of 'special' freight is off-loaded at the construction site. And the 4 'specialists' take their leave there as well. This side-jaunt takes the better part of two days.

Presumably the Miss Fortune will return to the High Port to take on passengers (if any) and load freight and cargo (if any).

MAMA has used all three of her actions. 1. She located a cargo-handler ROBOT for sale on a private orbital station. (But has not followed up.) 2. She used the computer to look for High and Low Passengers for either Fornice or Mora. There were no High Passengers travel requests found, but she sees that there are likely plenty of low passengers destined for either destination. 3. She used the computer to search for speculative cargo (very generally) and results of that will be "folded in" to the information in the following post. (Both the Mail query and the Standard Freight query can be handled without using up one of her tasks; no mail available and seems like plenty of standard freight available to either Mora or Fornice; other destinations freight available changes from day to day...)

ALICE was apparently working to network with local brokers and other "middle-men" to establish CONTACTS for the future. (Need at least a couple of dice rolls here along with what skills are being employed and whether anyone is helping.)

RIN & TAMM thought to upgrade "cargo droids", but since none such critters are yet aboard this action is voided. Both Rin and Tamm still have 3 possible actions.

Cpt Rains tasked Tamm, Rin, Leilani and Bronz to "Fan out into The Star port, since we're going to be stuck here for 3 to 4 days and find out what you can on cargo that could be shipped as far as cargo to Fornice. Look for the unusual and exotic. Try not to get set up by some shady Art collector dealer, looking to offload some religious artifacts. Use your common sense when evaluating these prospects." (Pending dice throws and skill application)

Cpt Rains personally visits the Commerce Department and tries to weasel in to see what's available but not yet listed on the public boards. He works the bureaucracy like he owns it, and finds a couple of VERY GOOD PROSPECTS (listed on the following post).

TAMM seperates from Rin, Leilani, and Bronz and hits the lower decks, walking the markets and ducking into a tavern now and again. He overhears some 'hot takes' regarding an over-looked stash of high value goods in an under-utilized warehouse space, and hears that the owners are trying to clear the place out before selling the space to another company. (more info in the following post)

Rin, Leilani & Bronz need to provide an idea of what they want to accomplish and make the appropriate skill rolls.
OOC:
(Lu-Yam is no longer with us. Alice is dropping, too. Is Rin still with us? I believe Leilani is still playing!)

Wait For It! Further Information regarding potential cargo follows.

After leaving Sickbay after Said Ma’s examination and treatment, Tharrok will go with Alice’s character and assist her using his Streetwise skill. He will ask around about any local establishments that cultivate the kind of local brokerage talent that they will need. Then he will go to those establishments and talk with the servers and service personnel to get a feel for whatever brokers might frequent them.
OOC:
I’m not sure if I need to make the roll or not. My intent was to help Alice, as I believe she had the better skill. That having been said, I’ll roll if needed.
Tharrok’s Streetwise skill: +2 ( if including attribute, Edu +1)

I will update the Ship's Ledger for the delivery of the goods to planet side.
Question, the five extra days incured by waiting for clearance, are those five extra Moorage day feed added to the seven in port fee already paid? Or does Smugg Orney Enterprises pay the 500 CR?
On selling the speculative cargo, you are correct, no one has accomplished this. I think with all of the confusion on my part I did not task anyone to do this and I must confess I did not know how to proceed or do you the GM make all the roles? LC can take on contacting a Broker and sell the cargo since it looks like we are losing Alice.

Question - how is finding the Broker conducted? I mean besides roleplaying 'LC looks up the lists of local Broker houses and conducts a search on the interwebs for repetition to select one and then contacts the Broker house to sell the cargo', do you you determine the Broker level?

Warning rules jargon
For instance Jokotre has a 'B' Starport and Brokers up to skill level 3 can be found (LBB 07 pg) or the 1982 201 TTB page 104 - it just states that
"Broker's Services: Brokers may assist in the sale of goods delivered to a world. Each must be paid his fee even if the seller decides not to sell his goods. Brokers may provide DMs from +1 to +4, at a cost of 5% of the sale per +1 provided (a +1 broker receives 5%; a +4 broker receives 20%). The DM may never be higher than +4. Only one broker may assist with a sale."

It seems a bit unknown on the skill level of the local Broker, is this how you want to proceed? I am down with whatever, I just need to know.

[Scene opens in the Miss Fortune’s galley—brightly lit, but lived-in. A half-drunk cup of stim sits forgotten near the edge of the common table. LC Rains lounges in his usual seat, hand-comp tablet flickering as local brokerage listings scroll past in glowing amber. His brow furrows in that thoughtful, half-smirking way he gets when he’s trying to read between the lines of a corporate pitch.]

"Here we go..." LC mutters, flicking one listing into a corner bin and pausing on another.
"No red flags in their records, decent merchant guild ratings, and—look at this—clean audits three quarters in a row. Could be worse."

He turns the screen toward Alice, arching an eyebrow.
"Alice, give this a look. Arvon-Tal & Sons. Mid-tier house, but they’ve got a rep for quick flips on speculative cargo. Think they’re the kind who’ll haggle fair—or are we about to get the ‘off-worlder premium’ treatment?"
OOC:
Does Alice have any input???
While she looks it over, LC taps in a quick series of entries, smoothing his shirt collar as if the Broker on the other end of the line might judge him by his comm signal posture.

"Good morning, Arvon-Tal. Captain Rains, Miss Fortune. I’ve got six tons of specialty trade goods looking for the right buyer—and I hear you’re the sort of firm that knows how to make that happen fast and clean. Care to talk terms?"

He flashes Alice a grin while the line connects.
"Let’s see if they’re worth their finder's fee—or if we’re about to teach ‘em how a backwater Free Trader does business."

EDIT - Forgot the dice rolls. Assume Admin for negotiation?

Bronz glances over at Leilani, brow slightly raised. "Got any idea what we should be sniffing around for? My guess—they’re looking to spread the faith off-world. Could mean crates of holy books, teaching vids, maybe even prefab altar kits or shrine parts."

He shrugs, eyes scanning the street ahead. "Could also be charity runs—medical stuff, food packs. Anything that helps 'win hearts,' y’know? Might even be moving missionaries themselves or gear for some kind of pilgrim outfit."

If your character is "helping" another, a dice roll is not needed. Help can be in any form, including moral support. Security. Bits and bobs of random knowledge. Another ear to eavesdrop on nearby conversations. So usually no specific skill is required to be of help. Although having an applicable skill certainly doesn't hurt!

Goods Available For Purchase

notes: MISS FORTUNE docked at Jokotre High Port at 21:30, April 25, Imperial Year 1115. The ship remained there for roughly 5 days, to late on May 2. (28 day months) Then took 2 days to deliver passengers and special-freight to the "Machines Are Us" construction site 'dirt-side'. Then the ship would certainly return to the High Port to collect freight, purchased cargo, and passengers. (An extra 100cr is due for additional wharfage.)

Departure, assuming all goes as planned, should be May 5.
-----

Cargo that was located by various methods (excluding the public boards, but including the two outstanding successes);

BEST BET: 11 dtons of handcrafted furniture made from rare local wood and leather. Very stylish. 7200cr per ton. 1-ton pallets. 10 percent discount for purchasing all.

ANOTHER GOOD DEAL: 7 dTons non-petroleum lubricants from local organic sources. In quarter-ton barrels on 1-ton pallets. 4,000cr per ton

25 dTons of construction grade steel beams. 10x 2.5 ton standard containers. 3200cr/ton. 10-percent discount if all purchased.

40 dTons of high-quality wheat flour. 8x 5 ton containers. 2500cr/ton.

20 dTons of vacuum-tube tech high performance audio equipment. 8x 2.5 ton containers. 5500cr per ton. Non-negotiable.

12 dTons of hand-crafted leather-wear. Packaged in quarter-ton crates (48 total). 4,000cr per ton.

11 dTons of Jokotre Ceremonial Wine. Packaged in quarter-ton crates. (44 total). 3500cr per ton.

5 dtons of Locally manufactured blade weapons: knives, blades, swords, cutlasses. 2 2.5 ton containers. 8500cr per ton.

1/2 dTon of Ram-Blessed Lakefish (tinned). Single Lot on pallet. 3500cr for all.

1/2 dTon of pure (liquid) Mercury in 2 quarter-ton barrels. 4,000cr for the 2.

No potential High Passengers have yet been found. There are more than enough Low Passengers for either Fornice or Mora to fill the freezers...

Minor Point:
LC has live life beyond his current status (SOC 7) and spent 120 credits per week in port to have wine and 'stuff' to earn the business and options for the cargo.
Jun 2, 2025 1:03 am
LC gathers the crew in the galley as the star map dims and a crisp cargo manifest takes its place, projected above the table in golden relief. He leans forward, gesturing toward the display with a stylus like a seasoned auctioneer.

"Alright, team—here’s what’s come in."
He taps the first line with a flick.
"Hand-crafted furniture and high-grade wheat. Solid bets. Fornice is high-tech, high-pop, and always hungry for luxury imports—literal and figurative. Wheat’s dependable, furniture’s elegant, and both are easy sells to brokers who cater to corporate apartments and executive dining halls."

A quick gesture and another line highlights.

"Now, Mora—different beast. Heavy industry, deep tech culture, massive market turnover. The non-petroleum lubricants? That’s a niche product with an industrial edge. Could move quick in bulk if we hit the right buyers—especially if they’re shifting away from hydrocarbon synthetics."

He pauses, switching to two lower entries.

"Now, the Jokotre Ceremonial Wine—beautiful label, questionable appeal. Might be too exotic offworld, unless we’re targeting religious collectors. And the vacuum-tech audio rigs? Lovely, but too specialized. I doubt we’ll get more than break-even once transit fees and port taxes are factored."

He turns to the crew, stepping back slightly to give space.

"But that’s just my read. I want your thoughts. Said-Ma—how does the wheat and wine stack up from a handling and preservation angle? Alice—do you think the Mora broker network will bite on the lubes at a premium? Bronz, Leilani—can the ship handle any special stowage needs without rewiring the hold?"

He finishes with a half-smile.

"Let’s make the right bets, not just the safe ones. Thoughts?"

"Tamm find (xdt, high value, low bulk) cargo. It's a bit grey and we have to deliver it to someone on Fornice but the profit margin is very favorable.

Psst, Dave. What kind of goodies did Tamm find?
All found cargo purchase opportunities are in the post above.

Addressing a couple things LC mentioned above:
Reputable Brokerage Firms would be in public listings and LC has the background to tell wheat from chaff in that regard. (No need to roleplay, just say you are hiring a local broker. Trying to keep things simple at this point, but later on we might make this a bit more of a roleplayed process. A broker charges 5 percent per skill level, thus for a +1 DM broker you have to pay him 5 percent of the sale (or purchase) price. They can also be instrumental in finding goods, usually for no additional charge if the purchase is made or a flat fee otherwise.)

The skill level of the broker is an abstraction, of course, but by word-of-mouth and "business page" reputation you'd know pretty well up front what you are paying for.
Jun 2, 2025 3:31 am
Tharrok looks at LC when he talks about the non-petroleum based lubricants like they are intended for industrial use. With a wry smile he says, "Not all lubricants are used for the gears of industry, Captain. I am a little surprised I’m the one to point that out.". Tharrok gives LC a knowing wink. "Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge. Know what I mean…"

Internal thoughts are in italics,
actions/movements in plain font and speaking in bold

LC raises both brows at Tharrok’s comment, then gives a slow, theatrical nod as if a deeply profound realization has just dawned.

"Ahhh... of course. Not just for gears and pistons—but for... well-oiled interpersonal relations."
He taps his compad with a deadpan expression.
"Remind me to lock that cargo bay extra tight. Don’t need anyone slipping in uninvited and starting a social experiment."

He chuckled outwardly, but inwardly, LC filed that away. The lubricants might draw more than industrial interest, and with four technicians still aboard and an increasingly colorful crew, it never hurt to keep one eye on the manifest... and the other on the crew quarters.

Turning toward Tamm, LC gives a short, approving grin.

"Good work, Tamm. Moving fast on that bid shows initiative—and a nose for good furniture. Let’s hope our buyer on Fornice has expensive taste and a bad back."

Truth be told, LC hadn’t expected Tamm to move so quickly, but he appreciated it. The ship needed more of that initiative. Still, a little more heads-up would’ve been nice. It was a Free Trader, not a fast-track auction house. Then again, profit was profit—and Tamm had just secured a solid one.

He taps the edge of the table to refocus the group.

"So with the furniture bid placed, that’s one solid hold half-filled. I’ll follow up on the lubricants—no matter their... intended use—and see if we can corner a few extra tons without gouging our margins."

He made a mental note to triple-check the invoicing. Smugg's name floated behind some of these suppliers like a shadow. And the last thing they needed was a crate full of ‘machine oil’ turning out to be bootleg stimulants or worse, consecrated incense bound for a Ramite enclave. Again.

LC shifts his attention to Alice and Said-Ma.

"Alice, let’s run some numbers. Can we afford to split spec lots between Fornice and Mora? I don’t want to come up dry in one system trying to make both work. Ma, what’s your read on how much we can comfortably carry, while keeping everything above board and non-combustible?"

He trusted Alice’s gut and Ma’s pragmatism. Between the two of them, they’d make sure nothing ended up exploding or underpriced. Or both. Which was always a danger when running dual-system cargo. Still, this was what he signed on for—juggling logistics, profit margins, and the quiet chaos of independent life.

He looks around the room with a crooked smile.

"It’s good to have choices—and even better to have a crew that acts like shareholders instead of drifters. Let’s finish this port stop in the black."

Because one wrong deal, and this whole dream—the Athelstone, the ‘Miss Fortune’, the crew, the escape from his old life—could turn to ash in a loading bay. But for now? They were still flying. Still free. And that was worth something.
Jun 2, 2025 5:04 pm
"Okay that 18 tons of our hold out of 62 tons. We have bought Cr 99,280 credits of goods. We have 44 tons.

Looking at Alice and Said-Ma;
"What do you think about 29 dTons of standard freight to either Fornice or Mora and fill the rest of the cargo hold with 15 dTons of the high-quality wheat flour that can be sold on either planet since they have a high population?"

Looking at the rest of the crew
"Any other suggestions before Said-Ma makes the purchases? Or do we move forward with the standard Freight and another small amount of speculative wheat cargo?"

99,280cr for purchased cargo.

[Aboard Miss Fortune, Crew Common Room | Evening of Day Five, Jokotre High Port Layover]

The galley lights have been dimmed just enough to cast a warm glow across the common room—an echo of a dozen ports of call past. Someone’s queued up soft instrumental music on the overhead. Tamm brought out a small crate of Oaty-Fruity bars from stores (somehow unopened), Said-Ma supplied a proper toast drink—non-lethal, of course—and someone even managed to string up a half-working "FAREWELL ALICE" banner from hazard tape and cargo labels. A solid effort, by Miss Fortune standards.

LC raises a glass—real glass, not a thermal mug—and stands near the table where Alice’s personal effects are boxed and tagged for transfer.

"Well, this ain't the first crew farewell we’ve had, and it won’t be the last—but that doesn’t make it any easier."

"Alice Petrov stepped aboard Miss Fortune with sharp eyes, sharper instincts, and a laugh that somehow sounded like it came with a merchant’s discount. She helped us close deals, sniff out scams, and—most importantly—she held her own through the wilds of Jokotre, bureaucrats, customs, and questionable lubricants."

He gives a pointed look toward Tharrok, smirking, before continuing.

"Now, she’s trading cargo manifests and market margins for a steady gig here on the High Port—and while I’d normally question someone’s sanity for turning down the thrill of star lanes for a desk job, I won’t question Alice. She’s earned the right to chart her own next jump."

"So from all of us—thank you. For the hustle, for the hustle behind the hustle, and for keeping the rest of us on task, even when we didn’t know it."
"You’ll always have a place aboard this ship. Just... don’t expect your shares back if you come crawling back after one too many station meetings."

LC raises his glass again, this time with a genuine smile.

"To Alice. Smooth jumps, strong trades, and a cargo hold that always pays out."

The crew lifts their drinks. Tamm grunts something.... Said-Ma offers a fond nod. Bronz gives a quiet thumbs-up. Tharrok, of course, makes a Vargr but well-meaning toast involving station elevators and broker bonuses.

Jun 3, 2025 1:05 am
Bronz gives a slight shrug, his tone casual but measured. "Mora’s fine… but if you look the other way—Maitz, Lalique, Duale—might be some quieter opportunities out that way. Less traffic than Mora. Just thinking the next steps..."

He doesn’t push the point, just puts it out there—options worth considering.

"Well I'm biased, Mora's home, so probably not the best person to ask. Though I've put a few feelers out, but it's been a while since I went back. Kid I used to supercharge his Flyer for the circuit races is now a big wig for the Millers Hope Archology. Not sure they'll return my comms or not until we jump in system." she shrugged

"Everywhere else was just shore leave, not necessarily the time you leave the best impressions on the locals. Great if you want a night out however..."
Jun 3, 2025 7:51 am
Tharrok chimes in, "Mora is better. Spent too long kissing the dirt at Fornice while the bank did its thing. Time to move forward.". The Vargr shrugs a bit. "Leastways that’s my thinking. But I’m just the pilot. I fly the ship. You say Mora, I’ll fly Mora. You say Fornice…" he lets the rest trail off.

LC to everyone in discussion on the next port of call,

LC leans back slightly in his chair, eyebrow raised, the way one might when someone drops an unfamiliar bottle on the negotiation table.
"Lalique?" he echoes, drawing the word out like he’s rolling a coin across his knuckles.
"Do you mean Palique, or is there some quiet little iceball out there named Lalique you and your old mates used to refuel at after less-than-Imperially-sanctioned ventures?"

He flashes a grin—light-hearted enough to defuse the jab, but his eyes linger a moment longer on Bronz than usual.

"Palique's not a bad thought. High pop, industrial, cold as a customs inspector’s handshake—and always hungry for raw goods and offworld foodstuffs. Our wheat could move well there, maybe even fetch a premium. But…"

He flicks open his hand comp and gestures to the starchart projection blooming above the galley table.

"…it's a double-hop from here. Two jumps, two sets of fuel, life support, and port fees—and no guarantee we sell quick at the midpoint. We'd need to budget for it properly, or line up freight to keep us solvent while we move."

He closes the display with a quick flick and looks around the table.

"That said—moving Rimward might not be smart just yet. We’ve only just started making a name. A circuit’s got to be built with intent, not impulse. But if you’ve got a plan forming, Bronz, I’d rather hear it than stumble into it half-blind."

LC gives Bronz a nod—serious now, but not confrontational.
"Talk to me later if you’ve got more on this route. I like options... especially the quiet kind."

"Bronz has merit and thinking outside the box, but Mora is the majority vote from the crew."

Looking at the Drone
"Decherrek, do you have any insight or suggestions before I make this final?"

Mama, answers, "Personally, I think standard freight should be last resort. Any double or triple jump freight should only be purchased if we are moving it in the proper direction. If we need to back track through here to get it to sale, don't get it at this time unless it is a 'you can't lose' deal.

A solid offer from a reputable supply-house on Jokotre High port offers 7,000cr/dTon for the lot of pain-killer meds. Not as much as the 'salesman' on Fornice thought you'd get, but profitable still.

Once you've decided on a destination and filed a JUMP PLAN with the Port Captain's office you can book passengers.

Any additional speculative purchases?

I am assuming you are now docked at Jokotre High Port after delivering passengers and freight 'dirtside'. Date is May 4, 1115. You don't have much time to finish business if you plan to meet your projected departure date of May 5. You can always extend your stay; however time is money and there could be additional fees involved.

My apologies everyone. It seems everything is coming to a head at one time here. The hole has just been dug, footings going in next week, deliveries being dropped off, trees being uprooted and piled, 4 vehicles all wend down with battery issues, two full sets of tires needed to be replaced, the electrician, cement folks, plumber, HVAC, septic and well, kitchen cabinet ladies, and flooring specialist all want individual meetings... some two & three meetings... local bar license and personal bartenders license had to be renewed.

While all this is being juggled, I took a three week trip to south Carolina to be there for the birth of my 22nd grandchild.

Just a lot to get completed. So, feel free to move forward without me, I will interject as I can

Made a mistake and did not subtract the 10% for the Broker fee, so we sold the 5 Dtons of Pharmaceuticals at 7000 Cr minus the 10% fee equals 31,500 Cr or a profit of 6500 Cr, not that bad. I updated the ship's ledger file.
So the the shareholders are sitting at 632,020 Cr from a starting share total of 558,000 Cr. We still have to pay the mortgage and maintenance fee.

Tharrok looks over the manifest. "Well, that looks like a full hold to me. Do we have any passengers lined up yet? If not, should we consider using the staterooms for non-standard cargo?" T-Jive raises his eyebrow questioningly. Not sure where the thought came from, he shrugs and says, "Just a thought that struck me. Not even sure if it’s a good idea, but thought it couldn’t hurt to ask."

LC replies to Tharrok
"I am not sure we could fit anything into those staterooms. What do you have in mind?"
Side eye toward Tharrok

On the passengers LC says;
"We have 10 for the ice box, but as thus far no takers on high or middle passage. Plenty for low berth passage. I was wondering if we offered a cut rate on middle passage to see if there are any takers at 2500 Cr per person. That way we can make some profit for the stateroom. We could stack them two to a stateroom and have them split the 2500 Cr, but I don't know what that will do to the life support....Thoughts?"

"Thoughts from any of you on passengers at a cut rate?"

Tharrok strokes his chin for a moment then says, "Well, things that might be better under more climate controlled conditions. Certain agricultural products or intoxicating spirits, maybe. Certain psychedelics, if there are any grown here, which is something I don’t know about, maybe…"

Bronz leans against the bulkhead, arms crossed, he recalls his earlier days and says with his voice level. "Could always fill the staterooms with light cargo instead of passengers—if it pays better."

He gives a small shrug. "Just putting it out there. Like I said before—I’m used to making things fit."

LC responds to both Bronz and Tharrok with a glint in his eye of more profits
"There is more Jokotre Ceremonial Wine that is packaged in quarter-ton crates at 3500cr per ton. We could split that down from the quarter ton crates and place it in the rooms that are unused. "
LC looks up at the ceiling of the galley room and says
"There is also 5 tons of Jokotre locally manufactured blade weapons in two 2.5 ton containers at 8500cr per ton. We could take the five tons of the wine we have procured out of the 'special' cargo hold and put the weapons there. I think just to wait and go to Dojodo or Nadrin with their low law levels to sell this type of product."

[Scene: The Galley – Miss Fortune, Jokotre Highport]

The lights dim automatically as LC steps into the center of the galley. The hum of the ship is faint beneath the low crackle of a holo-emitter warming up. A pair of wire-framed projectors flicker to life in the overhead, casting twin rotating spheres of rugged planetary surfaces into the center of the room—each spinning slowly in golden-blue relief.

LC Rains, tablet in hand, taps the screen. Labels flash into view: Nadrin and Dojodo.
https://i.imgur.com/Q5hp9Ji.jpeg

"Alright, crew. I’ve got two entries worth our attention—frontier worlds with quiet ports and looser rules. Before we make the call on our next heading, I want everyone clear on what’s on the table."

He gestures to the first display. The dusty surface of Nadrin looms, with red-highlighted text appearing beside it:
D420203-7 – Type D Starport – Very Thin Atmo – Desert World – Law Level 3 – Pop: Negligible.

"Nadrin. D-class port, so nothing fancy—think fuel drums and maybe a landing beacon that works on odd days. Desert world, low pop, and not much oversight. Law level’s a mild 3. Enough to discourage riot grenades, but not much else."

"It’s the kind of place where Jokotre blades—especially hand-forged—sell well. Functional, symbolic, and rare. With the right pitch, we’d own the market."

He swipes across to the second display—Dojodo, colder and bleaker, its ice-capped terrain spinning slowly under a pale light.

C512311-7 – Type C Starport – Ice-Capped – Law Level 1 – Pop: Sparse.

"Dojodo’s got a better starport and nearly no laws. You could land with a dueling sabre on your belt and no one would raise an eyebrow. Same as Nadrin—low population, isolated, and self-reliant. Our blades would sell here as necessity, not ornament."

He gestures to both planets.

"Two worlds, two different markets—both far enough off the main lanes that competition’s light. But let’s not pretend we’re not working a narrow margin here. No bulk buyers. No hand-holding from a central port authority."

LC looks toward the crew, eyes settling on Bronz.

"Bronz—you mentioned these quieter runs before. You see either of these worlds lining up with the kind of port traffic we can actually turn into credits?"

Then to Tharrok.

"Tharrok, you've got a feel for places that live off instinct and practicality. Nadrin or Dojodo—where would you trust to offload sharp steel and not come up with regrets?"

He then turns to Decherrek the Drone.
"Okay PhD candidate, what do you think? Or do you have other ideas?"

He steps back from the holo as both spheres spin gently, casting icy and sandy light across the faces around the table.

"I want options, not just consensus. If either of these worlds is going to be our next jump, I want to be sure we’re not just chasing shadows or frozen terrain. So—thoughts?...Tamm? Said-Ma?..what about you Leilani?"

PASSENGERS:

You can fill the 10 low berths from the pubilic "want to travel to Mora" list with no difficulties. 1,000cr each, paid upfront, so 10,000cr revenue. All 10 are pilgrims-of-Ram making their way back to Mora or points beyond. They chant delightfully as they board "Miss Fortune" and have a sort of glazed look, the same on each face.

3 MIDDLE Passengers can also be picked from the public list without issue. A couple of starport employees headed to Mora on a vactation/shopping trip, and a scholar/philosopher returning to her home on Mora. 8,000 x3 = 24,000cr.

Decherrek pays his standard 10,000cr fee for his trip to Mora.

leaves 2 staterooms 'vacant' for the trip to Mora.
Jun 6, 2025 3:04 am
Bronz rolls his eyes. "There’s quiet—and then there’s ghost town. What you’re showing? Ghost towns."

He taps a finger on the display, pointing to the population tags: "Negligible," "Sparse."

"Not saying there’s no market there, just that it’s less likely. They’re close enough to Mora that they’re not completely forgotten—but what kind of credits are you really pulling out of a place like that?"

He glances toward the others, keeping his tone level. "That’s why I mentioned heading the other way—higher populations, some Amber zones. Not everyone’s willing to dip into those, but there’s a string of ‘em that way. Probably more value in it. Not my line of work, just offering a thought."
Jun 6, 2025 1:38 pm
Tharrok looks at the options and scratches behind his ear. "Well, neither looks like particularly attractive options in and of themselves. So, a couple of things we should consider… First, where do we want to go beyond there? If we want to go further trailing, say on to Daumier, then Dojodo makes the most sense. It is also the system with the higher population. Both systems have Scout Bases, but they are wildly different experiences. Nadrin’s population is almost exclusively Jonkeereen and the Scout Base there is set up to observe that population. On the other hand, Dojodo’s base is considered the ass-end of the Scout Service. Neither system has a particularly decent market for much of anything. And I don’t know what, exactly, they have to offer in return."

LC leans one hand on the holotable, watching the flicker of the projected systems. The galley light reflects off his rings as he taps the population markers on each globe.

"You’re not wrong, Bronz." His tone isn’t defensive—more thoughtful, even impressed. "I was looking at these worlds as a way to offload, not to pick up. These folks might buy our Jokotre steel, but they don’t have anything worth carting back. Not unless we fancy getting paid in root vegetables or ancient circuit boards."

He paces slowly behind the table, motions with his hands on the display giving the display a quick zoom out to show the whole Mora subsector, highlighting low-population tags.

"Most of this stretch is dust and ghost-lights. Good for fast drops, maybe grey-market deals—but not sustainable runs." He glances toward Tharrok. "Dojodo does open the lane to Daumier, so that’s got legs. But Bronz is right—if we want the ship to thrive, we’ve got to string together systems that give as much as they take."

He pauses a beat, then looks to Bronz again.

"You mentioned heading Rimward—Amber Zones, heavier populations, higher stakes. I like that thinking. It’s risky, but if we build the right name for Miss Fortune, we can take that risk with leverage. And maybe a little bravado."

He lets out a breath and glances to the rest of the crew.

"So maybe the question isn’t can we sell on Nadrin or Dojodo—it’s, does a pit stop there advance our long game? If not, I’d rather we skip the sand and snow."

He eyes both men, then the rest of the room.

"I’m open to either path—but if we go Rimward, we go in with a plan. The next port is Mora and from there we can get some real good cargo. In jump space we can really discuss the way forward to go Rimward or Trailing to the next series of stops. We ready to start building a rep and we are successful on this first outing and this is not the last."
OOC:
LC wants the conversation to continue but it appears we maybe up against the time to leave port and there is plenty of time in Jump. Does anyone have concerns if we reengage the conversation in jump or do we decide it now?
Jun 6, 2025 11:44 pm

I see no problem is jumping now - as we are already decided upon Mora. We still have time for discussions of which direction we want to go after that.
