Hm. Just noticed: I can't do HPs or APP since they depend on knowing the stat, and nobody's yet put up sheets or even just indicated what stat has which numbers . . . .
HOwever . . .

Kwll's PC: 5'8" (161 lbs); average build; body/torso size: 322; head size: 347; hand/feet size: 316

Bullseyepsa's PC: 5'8" (161 lbs); average build; body/torso size: 322; head size: 320; hand/feet size: 321

Qralloq's PC: 5'6" (149 lbs); slightly slender build; body/torso size: 281; head size: 240; hand/feet size: 242

Also, do I have it right nobody really cares where the group is from?
Jun 11, 2025 3:47 am
Ok, I've submitted a character sheet with the stats on it.

I had to edit the sheet that Qralloq posted because it adds the stat to the bonus. I fixed it on mine, but I thought I would point it out.

OldGameMasterFox says:
I don't see how: you'll still use almost all the stuff for rangers (dev point costs, base spell lists, etc); the only real similarity between the two professions is that both can draw on the open mentalism spell-lists.
It does make sense.

I also started to fill in my character sheet and submitted it, making the correction on the way.

kwll, I'll fill in the stuff I listed above for your PC tomorrow (I hope).

No worries, and thank you: Character Law (whichever edition) can be a bit daunting...

To answer your question above, no I don't care where the group is from.

It's been a busy week, but I'll make getting the character attributes assigned and a sheet submitted a priority tomorrow morning.

Bullseyepsa and kwll, your PCs' base HP and APP is done; Qralloq, you're next.
Kwll, if you're going to be a Mentalism ranger, your presence stat has to get the 90 instead of your intuition; I didn't see that on your sheet (assuming you've gotten around to it, natch).
Next, your PCs' adolescence skills. To get your development points, don't forget to use that smoothed distribution chart I put into the permitted options thread. You get an extra 25% of your base development points to use for secondary skills ie skills that aren't on ChL chart 15.21 (see RMCII for a big list of skills, but you can also use skills from all the books up to RMC VI).
Make me a list of the skills you want because some you might not be able to get from where you start off, so I need to approve them.

Submitted my character

Tired. Will respond tomorrow.
Almost done with The Archer.

OK, Qralloq, your little bit's done.

Bullseyepsa, for your weapons, first, can you tell me what order you put the weapon-skill categories in ie what's the primary category, secondary, etc? Second, you need to pay for ranks in individual weapons, not just the category (and, yes, this means paying "twice" to get ranks in say, sword and dagger).
*Yes, riding horses is the most common form for the more general skill of Riding (this is pretty much how the weapon skills work).
*Stalking and Hiding are two separate skills.
*If the Perception skill is the one from ChL, label it "General Perception" (the other, more specific versions of the same skill eg Taste Perception are secondary skills [IIRC]).

Oh, and everyone: don't forget at least to consider saving some points for languages (see below).

Where's the group from? I think, you'll all be from around the vicinity of Caronne, in the north-west. That way, even if we don't have a monk in the group, theoretically, PCs can learn "oriental" skills eg high-rank Martial Arts stuff. Also, it makes some sense for a mentalist Ranger to come from such a place where "magic" and gods are viewed with at least some skepticism.

Languages: unless someone comes up with some good reason for their PC being different, your initial language will be Caronnese. It wouldn't be a bad idea to learn at least a smattering of Ilsigi (slightly more common in your initial neck of the woods) and/or Rankan (and/or the more upper-class Rankene) as well.

Weapon category order (won't matter past the first two, I just don't have the DP available)
One Hand Edged
Bows
Thrown
One hand crush
Two handed
Pole Arms

The ones I'd have are Dagger and Shortbow (though I'll probably have to drop the shortbow after adolescence and only ever have the one rank to afford languages.)

When I was playing back in the day, our interpretation was that Stalking and Hiding is one skill for purchasing ranks but with modifiers separately because of the fact that one is a MM and the other a SM and they use different Ability Bonuses (it says "Stalking...Hiding is the same ability used when not moving") I don't really have the DP to buy them separately especially if I have to save some for Languages(and will barely be able to manage that).
Jun 16, 2025 4:54 am
Don't forget: you get to purchase skill ranks for your PC's adolescence, apprenticeship, level 2, and level 3; you should be able to do better than what you're getting worried about.

The explanation in ChL about stalking and hiding being different skills is the fact that each one uses different stats for bonuses and one is used for moving maneuvers, while the other is used for static maneuvers. Even if the description doesn't come out and baldly state it, I think there's enough context to support there being two skills.
Jun 16, 2025 5:14 am
I think there's context for reading it either way and we read it that they would have listed separate skills if they were separate skills. It's the only place they join two skills together that way. Compare it to something like Adrenal Moves where it explicitly says that the different applications are separate skills or Linguistics where they break it down even further. If it was meant to be two skills, the easier and more logical way to list it would just be to have Stalking (MM) Qu/SD and Hiding (SM) SD as separately listed skills.

edit: It's explicit in the Rolemaster Classic version (one of the clarifications they put in, I guess): Page 82:

STALKING (MM) AND HIDING (SM)

Stalking is the ability to move using
silence, using camouflage, and shadows to
conceal your presence, while Hiding is the
same ability used when not moving. You
develop this as one skill, but use different
stats for each task.
Note: Use Agility stat bonus for
Stalking. Use Self Discipline stat bonus
for Hiding.

>throws up hands!<
OK! You win!
It'll be one skill for this campaign.
Jun 17, 2025 3:56 am
Yay! Don't worry, I'm going to be barely intelligible in the local lingo for a while. 3/* for each written and spoken is a lot to get to 4 or 5 ranks each. It'll add character :).

OK, so I swapped Intuition with Presence, and used your chart for development points. I have thus 67.5 DP, so a little over 16 DP for secondary skills.

For secondary skills, how many would be good number according to you (so that not to have too law scores)?

Also, do the racial stat bonuses apply to the Potential stat or only to the temporary one?
Jun 18, 2025 3:04 am
67.5 isn't a possibility. I suspect you calculated DP for all 10 stats, but only 5 are "Development stats" (Co, Ag, SD, Me, Re) and thus generate DP. I have 31.4 and without knowing how you've distributed your stats I expect you're somewhere around 36 with the much better array you have.
