System; AD&D 2nd Edition
Flavor; Viking/Barbarian culture, Training scenario, and Dungeon Crawls.
Note; Players begin at level 0, 14 years old, and attending the training in preparations for their trial to adulthood.
Description; Tragolona is a massive continent covered in mountains, snow, and rivers. The people who reside on the continent are rugged with stern upbringings and dangers at behind every shadow. There are very few towns, but any map will be covered in dots representing one of the hundred plus villages. The people speak one language, worship the same Gods, build similar long houses, but each also has customs unique from the others. Coastal villages gather large raiding parties and sail to distant lands on their mighty long boats, Villages further in are as varied as the Gods, River villages trade using the channels of rivers, the secluded village produce powerful and stalwart warriors with craftsmen that mine metals and produce weapons.
One custom familiar with the western villages is the challenge of adulthood. All children from the Western region are sent to the Gates of Tyre in Akrar. The clergy of Tyre built a massive training complex with masters of their fields. Warriors, Scouts, Priests, Skalds (Priests of Bragi), and the suspicious Sorcerers (Only avail from characters from Gautsdalr). The training involves combat with fellow students and challenges from the dungeons beneath the school, buried under the mountain. As the group gains experience, they will advance to raiding demi-human settlements located around the base of the fortress.
ADDED NOTES;
1. Eventually magic will be allowed, however this is a LOW MAGIC campaign. Schools are heavily restricted.
2. While 'Priests' classes are available, they are not quite the same as the traditional 'Cleric' from the Players Handbook. (Legends and Lore)
3. This is a historical fantasy which means there will be monsters traditionally from AD&D. Though expect a heavier volume of human encounters.
