Standing at the cave mouth, Catriona holds out her hand cupped to gather rain, and drinks. She offers some to her pet squirrel, too.

"What do you think, Chuck-Chuck? Will we get out of the cave today?"
Oct 25, 2017 12:21 pm
Chuck-Chuck looks at you, Catriona, and chitters softly before casting his head downward sadly. The rain outside looks like it hasn't abated much, still falling in heavy sheets reducing visibility to a few scant feet beyond the mouth of the cave.

Aera stares forlornly out of the entrance of the cave, craving the open sky so he can stretch his wings and fly.

Baraq takes two sticks of firewood and heads towards the back of the cave. She plants each stick upright into the ground, spaced one foot apart.
Returning to the group, Baraq grabs her javelins and stands a good distance from the sticks. "Slide the spear through," she says aloud, dropping all but one of her javelins. She carefully judges the angle, hefts her weapon, and gives a heave. She does not try to throw the javelin through the two sticks, but rather have the javelin hit the ground flat and slide along to pass between.
Looking to Aera, she points to another javelin to indicate his turn.

Dexterity to aim Javelin to slide along the ground - (1d20+4)
(6) + 4 = 10

Baraq's javelin certainly has the oomph behind it to travel the length of the cave, but she misjudges the condition just slightly. The haft of the javelin manages to land on a small stone just enough to roll off target. The point clips the left stick and stops partway through the "gate".

Aera picks up a javelin and follows Baraq's lead, throwing the javelin. Hopefully this will help to distract his mind from being trapped in here.

Dexterity - (1d20+5)

Aera's throw, while perfectly in line with the sticks, thuds point first into the floor and doesn't go much beyond there.
Xavena chucks her javelin, and hits the stick with enough force to knock it out of the dirt!

By the way, this is a fun game you've got. :) If people want to continue, I figured DC10 on the strength check and DC15 on the dexterity check to successfully slide a javelin through the uprights.Oct 26, 2017 1:04 am
"Good throw," Baraq says, heading down to retrieve the javelins and fix one of the uprights.

While the game seems a bit archaic and simple, there isn't much else to do in this cave waiting for the storm to pass. 'Perhaps it will be a good bonding experience between man and beast.' Rolen thinks as he stands at the throwing line awaiting Baraq's return. Being handed a javelin, he tests his luck at this "game".

Rolen's javelin lands softly and slides directly through the upright sticks, clearing it without so much as brushing along the goals.
Outside the sky brightens in flashes as peals of thunder rip across the rolling hills. In the flashes of light, those of you watching the rain can see the silhouette of three figures about 40 feet outside the cave. Because of the rain, it's hard to see much of anything else.

"Who goes there?!" Catriona calls out as she rises to her feet and casts a spell.

Casting Faerie Fire on the figures.Oct 27, 2017 3:29 pm
In a brief flash of light, the figures are surrounding by a faintly pulsing glow, clearly showing them to be humanoid in nature.
Quick! I hear voices! Be careful Elyssa! a deep voice says, clearly trying to be heard over the rains. The figures move quickly towards the cave, drawing to the point they can see you inside.
A man in his early 40s; a woman around the same age, perhaps a year or two younger, and a young girl in her early teens appear in the torrential downpour, water dripping from their sopping hair.

Baraq hisses, flaring her wings as she assesses the newcomers, visually inspecting their musculature and body-fat indices.

Hearing Cat call out, Rolen approaches to stand by her side, making the silhouette of his crossbow extremely visible "I would suggest answering the Lady and making your intentions known or prepare to share the fates of those before that tried to pull a fast one over us."

Please, we just seek shelter from the storm! A blast of lightning destroyed our home and we've been trying to find someplace warm and dry since! The man says as he advances on the cave with his arms in the air. M'name's Jessen.
