And we're off. Feel free to introduce your characters, and if you want to introduce any character or festival event, feel free :)

Finally! I'm pretty stoked about this game.

Sorry for the delay - work travel monday + tuesday (plus no wifi in the hotel) and I caught the plague AND work has at least 3 crises going on at the moment. I'd like to get an update tonight, but I'm going to glug some nyquil and hit the sack instead. fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Worst case scenario I'll be back among the living on Monday (i'm crash coursing to get well because I'm skiing Sun Valley Saturday and Sunday unless I'm throwing up or have lost a limb).

No worries mate, thanks for letting us know. Hope you're feeling better soon.
Mar 9, 2017 9:54 am
Yeah. No rush. Take care of yourself first.

Yikes. Look like the destiny pool want you all to suffer. And as a humble servant of Destiny I have no choice but to listen *mad cackle*

I rolled obligation, and got Butler Ashdown. So your obligation triggers.

Think I've just played up to that without even realising this lol

Hey all, so I'm a little confused.

Maybe I'm alone in this feeling, but I feel that in RPGs and this system especially that - like it or not - the mechanics influence a given player/character's ability to impact the narrative in a meaningful way. Action economy in combat, skills available to accomplish micro-goals, etc. Accordingly I feel like it's best when all players in a game start from the same place mechanically - everyone deserves to tell their story and to have a chance to impact the story in the same way, right? Share the spotlight right?

Well, I'm confused about Abelsbros 2nd PC/follower/daughter. I would say it's none of my business but as someone who is just here using his free time to participate in this game, hopefully enriching everyone's experience as well as enjoyment for myself, just like everyone else, I think it is all the players business.

Did you have to pay XP for your daughter character, Abel? Or was there some other mechanical trade off for you to get the additional action economy and skills?

My thoughts on it are that it's fine. Most players avoid having any hint of attachments in their character backstories that it's actually kind of refreshing to see some one invest in something like that so heavily. I'm happy to see how it plays out to see just how much trouble Jenna get's Alaric into as a trade off to having the occasional bit of assistance thrown into the mix.

I kind of hope that Abel hasn't spent any XP on having a daughter for Alaric as if she ever leaves/is out of the picture for any reason then his character will be running at a deficit (unless the benefit would allow for a mysterious relative to pop out of the wood every time one exits....would kind of stretch credulity at that point!). The FFG SW RPG's have things like droids in so the system is already geared around characters running around with NPC's

Not a problem, if it's just me I'm fine bowing out. Abel should have the PC he wants and SA of course should run the game how he wants, I just don't have any interest in spending my time on a game with a disproportionate player dynamic like this. Just wanted to have a discussion before making my decision.

My apologies guys.

Emsquared, I apologize if I offended you. Jenna is a plot device. I expected her to fumble on her attack but she didn't because I messed up and did not add the setback die, a rookie mistake and I apologize for that; she should have fumbled. After learning the rules for shooting into a mix of allies and enemies I'm relieved that she didn't shoot one of you guys in the back and have the whole party kill me outright because she attacked the party. That would have been a mess...

It is not my intention to cause any problems guys. I'm about story and having fun, really intrigued by this system but I'm obviously a rookie. I do NOT want to cause any drama. I wrote Alaric's story based off of the blurb in the book about nobody knowing where Half-Orcs came from (which is why I picked a Half-Orc). After I wrote the story, then I created the character because I'm a sucker for stories, just rolling dice and hitting things doesn't do it for me.

Jenna is based off one of my nieces. Jenna is enthusiastic about doing things but she's not very good at doing most things. Want some food? Jenna can cook (burn) it for you. Want the lawn mowed? Jenna can run over some rocks and bust the mower blade (true story). Want some ranged cover? Jenna can probably shoot you in the back. Be careful what you ask a 10 year old to do.

As far as her attacking, I just figured that a 10 year old caught up in chaos would probably shoot an arrow at something (and miss) just because kids are crazy. (Given her underwhelming combat ability it would be safer for the group's health if she doesn't do anything but try to stay out of the way in combat, I defer to our GM about that).

She's a way for our GM to smack the everliving fire out of me by putting me in situations where I have to rescue her. Her mother Raina was Alaric's former partner and the leader of the bandits who raided Jenna's village and killed her mother is still at large, giving our GM some content to run if he decides he wants to run something else if we wind up playing this game long term.

This site is a fun place where I don't have to be a responsible, stressed out adult and I value that. I don't want to cause any trouble. Please don't get upset.

P.S. Ronan James (the leader of the raid on Jenna's village) is based off of LeBron James, the NBA superstar. Why? Because he's a mercenary and a villain!

I think Emsquared has already ducked out (they're not showing on the characters list pop up anymore at any rate. Seems a bit of an extreme reaction to me but everyone's got their own style of game they like to play

I'm sorry to hear that.

Well, I have a friend who has been wanting to try this system out. He's wicked smart and was interested in playing a Priest (which would come in rather handy) if you guys are interested in letting him join.
Apr 22, 2017 8:41 am
Well I'd say its selective's call on that front but I'm not opposed to it :)

Jenna is in fact an NPC, and in most cases will be controlled by me. Alaric can give orders or tell her what to do, but that doesn't mean she will always follow his words. She is an obligation (Dependent) and should be more a source of trouble than an asset in combat. I'm guessing you will end up in a lot of dangerous situations and not everyone will be appropriate to bring a 10 year old girl.

It's true that Emsquared left the game, so I'm open to a replacement player.

Hey guys. I am sorry but I need to back out of this game. Some bad shite happened and I may not have somewhere to live in a month. I havnt been able to focus on gaming due to that. I am terribly sorry, and I hope the game goes well.
Apr 22, 2017 8:05 pm
Damn that sucks, hopefully Nikcollini will be able to get everything sorted and rejoin at some point. Are we pausing things for a bit to rebuild the player roster?
Apr 22, 2017 9:14 pm
I'm sorry to hear that Nikcollini. I hope everything works out for you.
