Episode 2: Local Heroes

May 17, 2017 4:37 pm
Alaric:

Alaric, following the the goblins’ tracks proves to be slow and tedious and it takes you into the early morning to follow them back out of the Tickwood and northeast towards the Lost Coast Road, here they would easily be lost among the rest of the traffic, but you reason that they probably wouldn’t have followed the main road for any length of time. And not much further ahead you can see that they have merely crossed the road and headed towards another forest, named Nettlewood.

The trees are shorter, and share their forest floor with snarls of nettles and thorny underbrush. This is making it difficult to make your way further in.
OOC:
You have started to narrow down where they are, and I need another 3 x Purple Survival check. You are no longer hampered by the dark, but I will use 2 of the threat from your first roll so that you suffer 2 strain and 1 threat to give you one setback.
Darakar & Butler:

The two of you are at the inn eating a healthy breakfast. Men your size can eat a lot and already Amiko is starting to regret giving you free room and board. You have already been approached by several locals, offering their thanks for your heroic actions the previous day.

Darakar, as a half-orc, you do not always get respect in the towns you visit, but Sandpoint don’t seem to have any problem with your presence.

You’re about to finish your breakfast, when you see the nobleman you saved yesterday enter. He scans the room until he sees you and purposefully walks up to you.

"I want to thank you again for saving my life," he says and bows his head in respect at you. "Without you and your companion, I would have been dead now. Take this as a token of my thanks."

He takes a pouch and slides it over the table towards the two of you. You can hear it jingle with the sounds of coins.

Aery:

You are out surveying the possibilities of some defenses should the goblins try to attack again, when you are approached by a young woman in her 20s.

She introduces herself as Shayliss Vinder. "Sorry to intrude on you sir," she says, her eyes averting to the ground. "But when I heard we had the great Aery visiting our lowly town, I couldn’t help but come over."

Still too shy to make eye contact, she continues: "I know you are busy and have more important things to do, but I was wondering if I could trouble you with a little something."

Jimmy:

As you check the bomb last night, you find some etchings on the inside as well as a couple of small glass tubes with alchemical liquids. It is similar to alchemist fire. You cannot recognize the symbol which looks to be a jackal head with three eyes.

When you arrive at the sheriff with Jenny you realize he already has a visitor, father Zanthus. He nods at the both of you.

"I agree we are ill prepared for another attack, and I may have a solutions," Sheriff Hemlock says. "I am taking a few guards south to Magnimar to see if we can secure additional soldiers to station here for a few weeks. At least until the extent of the goblin threat can be determined."

"I am loathe to leave so soon after an event. But I was hoping to secure a meeting with all of you ‘heroes of Sandpoint’. I am hoping you will be able to keep the peace until I return. The locals seems to have taken to you."
OOC:
The two threats represent not knowing the symbol. To do so, you need to make an Average Lore check (2 x Purple) with 2 Setbacks from your two threats.
May 17, 2017 5:31 pm
Aery mutters to himself about why he gets stuck doing such menial tasks as he surveys the area and scribbles down measurements and angles occasionally shaking his head. A young lady comes up and introduces herself and seems to want to start a dialogue.

Aery looks from his work to the lady back and forth a few times before he stashes his papers and quill.

Well I'd definitely rather be talking with her... he thinks to himself.

Aery looks to the skies sideways for a second facing the lady fully before snapping his fingers and a lute falls from out of nowhere before he breaks into song.
OOC:
Using Soothing Song to help her relax open up versus the mechanical benefit. Summon Instrument for wonky effect.
[ +- ] Hey There Shayliss
Take the ladies hand as the lute vanishes he looks at her seriously, "I think you meant lovely not lowly." he corrects her with a wink.

Butler waves his hand as the noble puts the pouch down "Well I do not speak for the others but as for myself I did not aid you or the town for any recompense. The room and board the good inn keeper has offered will suffice for myself." he glances at Darakar "If you want to keep hold of it for now lad and split it with the others when they resurface I'm sure they'd be grateful"
May 17, 2017 8:15 pm
Holding up a finger as he quaffed down his mug of ale, Darakar took a moment to consider the offer. Setting down the mug, he made sure to swallow prior to lowering his head (else the ale would spill out due to lack of lower lip) before answering.

"I have no objections, though I'm thinking we should probably not hold the demask to the free food and drink after this morning," Darakar answered as he picked up the pouch to feel the weight.

Aery:

Shayliss makes a shy laugh at you. "Thank you sir," she says. "It just so happens that I am in need of a mighty hero like yourself. My father runs the general store, but he’s so busy with my sister’s love life he’s neglected the business. We’ve got rats. Why just yesterday, I saw one the size of a goblin hiding behind a barrel in the basement. And well, since we have this handy new hero in town, well maybe he’d be inclined to go back with me and kill a few rats." She looks up at you expectantly.

Butler & Darakar:

The pouch seems hefty, a good handful of coins.

Aldern Foxglove looks happy that one of you took the pouch. "Well, I have to do something to pay you back for my life. I also would like the honor of you accompany me for a fox hunt tomorrow. Bring along your companions from yesterday."

"If we have the luck of the hunt, we’ll feast well. And you can all tell me of your daring adventures. I’m sure you must have seen some amazing places on your travels to Sandpoint."

Alaric:

You find the nettles a hassle to move through and soon lose the tracks.
OOC:
I will use both threat to represent getting stung on the nettles, suffer 2 strain.
Jimmy Lee:

You can kind of recall it being a religious icon of some sort. One of the dark gods, though you cannot for the life of you remember which one.
OOC:
With your advantage you are able to figure out which direction to focus your research, but without outside help or some kind of library you won’t get any further.
May 18, 2017 5:43 pm
"Sure I don't mind... curious why they're getting that big... might pop around to grab some mates though. You got any books in this General Store or a map of the area towards Junk Beach?" Aery inquires.

Aery will pop around to the tavern to see who's free to bust some heads of rats or quite possibly 'actual naked badgers' in nude mode.
OOC:
Offering up a go around to the General Store if anyone in the group is at the tavern.
May 19, 2017 3:11 am
Hmmm... I'll head back to town and let the group know what is going on.
May 19, 2017 3:48 am
"Sounds good, just let me know when and where. But first there's one thing.

"I'm still in the process of learning the local language, and don't recognize the word 'fox', what is it?"

Some of Darakar's clansmen would be embarrassed to admit anything like that, and when he first arrived in the area he was much the same. The last few years had remedied him of refusing to ask for clarification on words he didn't recognize. Besides, Wolyn himself didn't gain Mermyr Ukhaki without listening to Raskrin's advice.
May 19, 2017 9:50 am
Ok. Is there a place in town where I can find a book concerning Dark Gods? If not, is there a local wise man or woman that I can ask about the symbol?
May 19, 2017 11:37 am
"A Fox? Small four legged creature, orange and white, black feet. Like a wolf but more clever than face bitey."
OOC:
Meta Comment @ Starkiller: There's the priest at the church you can clergy fist bump and hash it out for assitance... I think the wise ones in town are you and me technically. I'm pretty sure most towns would burn books on dark gods and if not they're probably cultists looking on craiglist for sacrifices.
May 19, 2017 11:47 am
OOC:
Aery. Thank you. I'll check with the priest first, I saw you have something going on with the large rats. If you are willing, I would prefer that we go to the priest together. I'm sure you are better suited for this kind of thing than I am. I am more than happy to collaborate with you and if you are ok with it, I'd love to accompany you with taking on the rats. BTW, this rat quest sounds similar to A Bard's Tale where you have to fight a giant fire breathing rat in the basement of a tavern.
May 19, 2017 12:28 pm
OOC:
Yeah no worries, Jimmy could go back to the tavern for a drink and to let everyone know 'we're it' for a bit in town when it comes to the crisis center while he tries to figure things out. Rats story might make a good song... this also gives Alaric time to get back as well.
May 19, 2017 6:01 pm
"Except for the color it sounds like a fengr, a small white furred wild dog that hunts rabbits and other similarly sized animals. A few clans breed them.

"If I remember correctly one of the deities worshiped by the northern humans has it as a totem animal."
OOC:
Darakar's referring to an arctic fox.
May 19, 2017 6:31 pm
I'm heading back to the tavern to consult with Aery, tell Butler that he's the man, and roll my eyes at Darakar. Aery, I took this bomb apart and didn't blow myself or anyone else up. Please take a look at it and let me know if you recognize any of the markings inside it. Jimmy points out the symbol which looks to be a jackal head with three eyes.
OOC:
[GM Question] I did get 2 Advantages on my lore roll, can Aery use those as boosts to his lore roll?
OOC:
To Darakar, quoting Chris Tucker "Don't nobody understand the words that are coming out of your mouth man" Also to Darakar, you should make a different character and name him Billy Lee. 1: You'll understand what people are saying. 2: You'll have an awesome brother who you can trust completely.
[ +- ] Double Dragon
May 21, 2017 10:34 pm
Aery blinks as Jimmy opts to let him in on some new information, "Uh thank you for that..." he begins not sure how to respond to the bomb comment besides that. "Oh this is Miss Vinder gentlemen... This marking... Hmm actually lets get walking if we're doing stuff about town... anyone else got request coming in for offers and requests? Do we need to leave word with the barkeep for people to make appointments or messages for us when we get back... And where's the little one's keeper?" he states moving from letting everyone know his lady friend to motioning a few fingers short of his own height before getting on his tip toes to imply Alaric.
May 22, 2017 7:03 pm
"Junk beach is just to the north, can't miss it. And don't need any map," she tells you. "I'd love to take you to a beach, but there are better beaches to visit."

As you start to gather other heroes you can notice Shayliss becoming irritated. "I am sure one hero would suffice for a few rats," she says, annoyance clear in her mind.
OOC:
Anyone watching the scene could roll a Discipline at this time with a difficulty of 2 x Red + 1 x Purple. Only first one to roll counts.

Yes, anyone using your guidance about the dark gods can benefit from what you've already learned.
At this moment a dirty and tired Alaric returns to town, entering the inn.
OOC:
Not fun to sit by a lot of posts, so you have timed your return pretty good.
May 22, 2017 7:24 pm
Aery nods with the realization of the location and steps back and adjusts himself navigationally so he knows where that actual is in reference to the town.

"Riiiiight well since you mentioned some are as big as a goblins... I really don't want to be mounted by a rat for any reason really... I mean it's a bad way to go... How'd he die? Well there was a Halfling sized rat on top of him and it was... yeah that's just wrong love I can't have that being uttered ever regardless of what happens afterwards he's having his way with me. Darakar over there he has a penchant for doing away with 'nude badgers' as they call them around his parts and rat about that size probably fair less in combat. While him and the boys dispatch the rats maybe I myself can look at the books for the business... I mean if it's in a rough way there's inventory to be sold and what not. I-" Aery rambles on before stopping as Alaric is in the inn and how he looks he blinks.

"Well you look like shite. Want to kill some rats? Maybe buy some soap... lufia... yes no? Please say yes." he shifts his conversation to Alaric before looking at the rest and hops off to deal with business type things.

Aery the Merchant... Aery the Minstrel Merchant... yes.... that does sound nice. Aery thinks to himself.
OOC:
Discipline is a goose I think since the Despair wipes everything to 0 Despair = 1 Success + 1 advantage right? The really bad thing still happens though right? *Grinch Smile* =}

Alaric looks around at his fellow party member. Before I do anything, let's talk in private briefly. I want to fill you in on what I found out. Upstairs in one of your rooms.

Alaric tells the party where he was able to trail to goblins to before losing their trail and deciding to return to town.

I need a little while to rest and then I'm ready to roll, if it can't wait though, I'll go now. After all, I can't get much dirtier.
OOC:
I'm down 7 Strain right now, which is why I'd like to rest to recover it. If we can't wait though, I'll go as is.
May 22, 2017 8:53 pm
Butler glances from Aery to Shayliss Something going on there I'd wager, not many times a woman gets annoyed at extra hands unless.... he thinks to himself, holding back a chuckle.

Seeing Alaric enter he waves him over "Did you find anything of interest out there?" he says to him whilst sliding a plate of food and the jug of ale for him to take his fill.
May 22, 2017 11:10 pm
Alaric takes the jug of ale and the plate of food, nodding his thanks to the knight. Much appreciated, Butler. I would feel better talking about this somewhere more private. Let's get everyone together and go upstairs to your room, then I'm heading to the stables to sleep there for a couple of hours after I give you all the information I've gathered.

On the way up to Butler's room, Alaric stops by Amiko the innkeeper and thanks him for his hospitality.

Lord Amiko, we appreciate your generosity. Please let me know if anyone gives you trouble here.

Once everyone is gathered in private, Alaric briefs them.

The goblins were part of an entire army comprised of several varying tribes, which as you know, is unusual. Normally the various tribes would fight each other on sight. They wouldn't march together, let alone help each other. Anyway, I trailed the goblins through Tickwood and northeast towards the Lost Coast Road, lost them in Nettlewood. My guess is, we haven't seen the last of that army. Perhaps we should notify the Sheriff and the leaders of the town?
May 23, 2017 12:08 am
OOC:
I'll post after I find out the results of the rolls I guess.
May 23, 2017 2:20 am
OOC:
I'm interested in finding out what you discover.
May 24, 2017 6:27 pm
OOC:
[GM Question] Do I have time to rest and recover my strain?
May 25, 2017 11:23 am
"Well, you are the Aery. The mighty mage who once beat the ogre king in hand wrestling? The same mage who killed a hundred ghosts in Ustalav? Do you mean you can't handle a couple of big rats all by your self. I thought I was inviting a brave hero home. Was I mistaken?" Shayliss looks bored, and ready to leave the tavern.
OOC:
Yup, the despair, nullifies the success. Though not the advantage, so that stays.

First off let's resolve your Lore: Lamashtu (pronounced lah-MAHSH-too) is the mother and patroness of many misshapen and malformed creatures that crawl, slither, or flap on, above, or below the surface of Golarion. Her unholy symbol is a three-eyed jackal head, which may be represented in many ways, and her sacred animal is the jackal. As she mentions your names and your deeds, the other locals seems to become interested.

Lamashtu was once a mighty demon lord who became the first such entity to achieve true godhood. Lamashtu's followers seek out deformity in themselves and in others, and perform scarring and mutilation on themselves and others. They detest traditional forms of beauty and seek to destroy or kill it whenever possible. Some intentionally make themselves more beast-like. She is typically worshiped by races such as gnolls (who claim they were created when Lamashtu took a hyena as her consort), goblins, and medusae. Lamashtu is considered the creator goddess of many monster races who worship her accordingly, including lamias and morlocks.

Now to your Discipline: The Despair I will use to call you out on your reputation as a hero. You can use your advantage to gain a blue on your next roll.
May 25, 2017 1:24 pm
Aery pauses in the silence and looks to the others with the realization of what was just stated with what he was processing and it took him a few moments to collect himself.

"I am." he states with a nod his eyes a bit sad looking at the young woman in front of him as his eyes traced over her features.

Didn’t know about Ustalav, I’ll have to look that up. he thinks to himself.

"But few know the story of why I’ve done the great things I’ve done, fewer still sing of the other times especially not me, of the nights I spend contemplating the people I didn’t save because I was off doing something else or things that didn’t work out well and I second guess what could have been or what I could have done." he states quietly looking down in contemplation.

"If it’s just rats that need killing I readily offered help and looked to others in my company now to make quick work of it even offering advice on your father’s business so you can put food in your stomach even when your father doesn’t think of you as much as your sister… But there is a whole town here of people whose main blight in truth is unknown and I don’t want to see the town set ablaze by invaders possibly again by dinner time. So please give us a minute and we’ll see what we can do Miss. I’m still only one man who has in truth been rather lucky at times." he requested of her looking a bit older and tired than one would expect.

With that he’d move closer taking her hand and saying something close to her under his breath, "Also I am not a bauble to swing under your sister’s nose to induce jealousy. You’re better than that if you’re keeping up the business while your father is away. You already have the beauty and brains just find happiness and love and you’ll be as right as rain. Although it be great if it was me I don’t think either of us wants to think about how my last moments will be just yet and come to terms with that."

With that Aery bounds off for ‘the discussion’. "Won’t be a minute just checking to see where I’m headed today’s…"
Once with the others and Alaric had let them know what his scouting had revealed he let them in on something he had come to realize.

"I think Jimmy has talked to the Sheriff so he’d know about that. From someone dismantling one of the explosives his clue gave me a revelation besides his practices being a bit unsettling as to who we’re dealing with. Possibly Cultists of Lamashtu the ‘Monster Mother, goblins working together would be the least of our problems if this is the case since they’d just be the foot soldiers and fodder of a larger force. Gnolls, Morlocks, Lamia, even Medusae are known to be among her devout stating their kind as her ‘children’. I mean she is a Demoness Lord turned Goddess and if that’s not enough she’s the one worshipped by the misshapen, malformed, and malicious. They literally don’t like pretty people and will go through the means to scar and deform them. They do it to themselves as a form of showing loyalty and worship I guess.

So instead of being worried we had an organized group of little green buggers looking for an artifact under the town now I’m wondering if it’s an artifact or scheme to turn the town into horrific beasts and to further deform themselves… I’m not the most attractive bloke out there but I don’t scare away small animals with this face… Oh after this general store, kill some rats, grab a jar for some nettles, a quick jaunt up to Junk Beach, and then we’ll assess a way to get into Nettlewood if things haven’t gone full blown chaotic maybe a light dinner. Anyone else need a drink? Today's really turning out to be a rough patch."
May 25, 2017 5:58 pm
OOC:
Monster Mother. So, she's Lady Gaga.
As long as we're all here together, Butler, Darakar, Alaric, Aery; here is a healing potion for each of you.
May 25, 2017 6:23 pm
OOC:
Less raw meat outfits and more Grendel's mum after making fun of her boy.

"Thanks..." Aery states running a hand through his hair and almost drinking it before putting it away patting himself for a flask of something more alcoholic.
May 25, 2017 7:36 pm
Yeah, I still want to take a nap before we go anywhere. If there's nothing else?
May 26, 2017 4:09 am
Darakar shrugs, a fight is a fight, but rats aren't the most interesting opponent.
May 26, 2017 7:22 am
Upon waking, I'm ready to roll so just say when. I'd like to bring Jenna with us. Killing rats is a good way to season her.
OOC:
Darakar, just to clarify. By season, I mean experience, not cooking my daughter.

Well, I'm ready to go whenever you guys are. Jimmy thinks for a moment. Based on what Aery has discovered, we might be best served to split up and have one group go after the rats while the other group finds out what the goblins attack was really all about. Based on the numbers Alaric saw, they should have been able to swarm over this town and slaughter everyone and yet they didn't. It's very odd and we may want to consider following up on every scrap of information we can dig up.

She throws her hands up in the air in disgust and says, "Never mind, I’ll take care of them some other way." She walks off in a huff, as you head for the private discussion.

You are all in the middle of discussion when you are interrupted by a knock on the door. Opening you can see father Zanthus standing outside the room. "Excuse me gentlemen, do you have a minute?"
May 29, 2017 5:00 pm
"We have several left hopefully, are you in need of some assistance?"
May 29, 2017 10:07 pm
Butler has been stood, considering the options lauded before the group when Father Zanthus arrives at the room. "Ofcourse father, please come in" he says whilst also vacating his chair so the priest can have a seat. As Aery addresses him Butler nods "Yes, what is it you need father?"
May 30, 2017 6:02 am
If Alaric is awake from his nap, then he will listen attentively to Father Zanthus.
May 30, 2017 12:15 pm
Darakar raised an eyebrow, the old man looked nothing like Butler. Perhaps it was a title of some kind?
May 30, 2017 6:23 pm
Eyeing Darakar, Jimmy reviews his spells thoughtfully. Jimmy has picked up on the fact that Darakar has been mentally damaged and he's hoping to find a spell to heal the poor half-orcs half-witted state. He pats Darakar on the shoulder. Don't worry buddy, we are going to find a cure for you. Whether it's in this lifetime or the next remains to be seen, but we shall persevere until you are either cured or dead. Take comfort in that, my son.
May 31, 2017 6:16 pm
"It is probably nothing, but I'd rather be on the safe side so I thought I'd seek your aid," he pauses, then realizing he hasn't told what is actually going on. "Uhm... This morning, while doing the grisly deed of finding spots to the dear departet in the boneyard, I'd noticed one of the burial vaults' door hanging ajar. Could be old age creeping up on it, as it does to most things, but worst case scenario maybe one of yesterday's monsters has taken shelter. If so I could use your help to clean it out."
May 31, 2017 6:28 pm
"Culture Darakar... he means teach him the ways of your culture." Aery explains with a smile before hearing the priest explain things.

"Sweet, so Boneyard, leave after the possibly killing but before the sweeping, rats if they're not already dead, less work for us. Some tools to deal with those nettles later maybe, a hop over to Junk Beach, then over to the Nettlewoods. Do we need a cart to take the big one who wants to sleep?" Aery muses trying to piece it all together.

Butler casts a slightly confused look at Aery, struggling to follow the thoughts streaming freely from him, before turning back to Father Zanthus "Ofcourse Father, anything we can do to assist." he says to the priest before turning to don his armour "is the boneyard within the boundary of the town or without?" he asked in between pulling bits of splintmail over his head
May 31, 2017 7:41 pm
Upon hearing of the possibility of more goblins to fight, Darakar grinned and cast his vote, "I say we go for the Boneyard. Goblins are a better fight than rats."
May 31, 2017 9:34 pm
"Works for me, sun ain't moving at slower now. Lets see about a hours for Sleeping Doozy." Aery agrees.
May 31, 2017 11:26 pm
I'm ready to go. Regulators, mount up?
Jun 3, 2017 7:28 pm
"It is within the town limits. Right behind the cathedral," Zanthus explains.

He waits downstairs until you’re ready, then leads you to the boneyard. All the way he asks you with interest about your previous exploits, and what your plans for the future are?

The vault in question is a 20-footsquare stone structure. "This vault is used to house the remains of the previous caretakers, priests and acolytes who’ve served the church of Desna," Zanthus tells you.

You can see that the stone door is hanging ajar, and the ground around the place is churned up as well.
Jun 3, 2017 8:24 pm
"Well that sounds like something Cultists of Lamashtu would love to desecrate so eyes all around boys..." Aery states riffling through his gear for a torch to stick on the end of his staff.
Jun 3, 2017 8:48 pm
As they walk Butler players down his previous exploits, to hear him talk it would sound like he was merely an observer to a number of other people's deeds. "And then I found myself here. Honestly I was just hoping to find some work here, I wasn't expecting things to be quite so....interesting so quickly" he finishes with a chuckle that fades as the vault comes into sight.

Butler readies his sword and shield before turning to the others "Let me enter first, keep close though just in case" he says and starts to slowly advance on the doorway.

More than that, the centaurs would raid us every few decades for breeding stock to use as archers on their backs.

Alaric listens to Butler as on their way to the crypt but says nothing as he walks with his companions. As they near the crypt, he drops his hands to his rapiers. When Butler tells the party to let him enter first, Alaric nods in acknowledgment. Alaric closes one eye before entering the crypt, so that his vision will adjust to the dim lighting without a problem and waits for Butler to enter the crypt, following Butler into the crypt and taking a position on Butler's left flank once the Knight is clear of the entrance.

As Butler nears the door, he fails to notice a small glyph that’s been seemingly carved into the door. As the door opens, revealing a sizable vault with several rows of coffins, magical energies fly from the glyph. Splitting into six rays, they hit the ground behind you. As they do, skeletal hands claw their way up, and suddenly you find yourself surrounded by six sturdy looking skeletons.
OOC:
In this game I will only ever count the first if everyone rolls the same check. This to save myself from handling too many Advantage and Threat. The system isn’t in my opinion set up for the usual D&D way where everyone rolls.

"Let the bodies hit the-" he begins louder so the others hear.

"FLOOOOR!" he half wails half roars with a voice to loud for a body so small as his head rolls back as he yells out wind swarming around him.

Butler, as your sword chips into its shoulder, you can see the skeleton catch fire in what little clothes it's wearing.

Aery, you think you can hear Father Zanthus sigh behind you at your song, then muttering something about music today not being what it used to be.

Father Zanthus prays to Desna, praying for his goddess to bless Alaric with her protection.
OOC:
Father Zanthus uses Divine Intervention. If successful, Alaric can increase his Agility by 1 for the remainder of the encounter. With his advantages he will give Alaric a Boost die as well on his next action.

The skeletons closes in and claws at you. The first one slashes back at Butler. One closes in at Darakar. Another at Aery. Two are drawn in by Butler’s burning sword and attacks him. And the last attacks father Zanthus.

Almost all the skeltons hits their intended targets, even knocking the priest right out of the fight. Butler is able to twist out of the way at the right time, causing one of the skeletons to slash at its ally.
OOC:
Skeleton 1 vs Butler: 7 damage
Skeleton 2 vs Darakar: 10 damage. 2 threat to give Darkar a Boost on his next action.

Leaving the boost from Aery for Darakar since he should be going before me.
Well, I was standing to Butler's left, so these guys should be in melee range for me. I'm going to attack the nearest skeleton with the twin rapiers; Túrin first.

Túrin: 9 damage, 2 Pierce.

Using 1 Advantage to attack with Nienor and using 4 advantage to give 2 setbacks; 1 each to 2 of the skeletons attacking Butler.

Nienor: 9 damage, 2 Pierce.

Abelsbrother sent a note to SelectiveAmnesia
Using the Triumph to upgrade Butler's next attack, passing advantage to Aery to use in the next round.

Finally, if possible, I'll move into position to protect Father Zanthus from further attacks, standing over him to defend him if he's down. As long as I have a melee weapon equipped, I should have Defense 2, due to 2 ranks in Defensive Training.

Jun 16, 2017 8:02 pm
OOC:
Alaric, you seem to have done two weapon fighting wrong. Force & Destiny page 217 states: "To make the attack, the player performs a combined check. First, the player designates one weapon as the primary weapon. When making the combined check, the character attacks with this weapon. [...] He then compares the difficulty of the two combat checks he would make with each of his two weapons to hit his target, and selects the check with the higher difficulty. He then increases the difficulty by one if the two skill checks in the combined check were the same, and by two if they were different. If he succeeds he hits with his primary weapon as normal. He may also spend 2 x Advantage or 1 x Triumph to hit with the secondary weapon as well. If both weapons hit, he may spend additional advantage to triumph to activate qualities from either weapon. Each hit deals its base damage 01 damage per uncanceled success"

This means it costs 2 advantage to hit with your secondary attack, and it hits automagically, negating the need to roll a second attack.

With a couple of well placed strikes, Alaric is able to strike between the bones, and the skeleton he attacked looks ready to fall apart by a particularly strong puff of wind.
OOC:

As he swings his sword the skeleton parrys his first couple of strikes before Butler feints to the left and then swiftly brigs his sword round in a viscous arc sending a few of the undead fiends ribs flying.
OOC:

Butler strikes one of the skeltons hard in the chest, causing it to stumble a couple of steps backwards.

Then, as Aery’s song starts to inspire his companions, Darakar swings a mighty blow, splitting one of the skeletons into several small pieces.
OOC:
I’ll allow you to use it as 3 advantages.

Jimmy’s magic engulfs the priest, and his wounds starts to slowly knit together.

The first skeleton lets out a shriek like sound as it strikes at Butler once more, connecting with its clawed hand.

The next skeleton attacks Aery again, but the mage is able to hold it at bay, dodging all its attacks. But in the process blocking and distracting him from whatever he’s planning next.

The last burning skelton returns the favor and slashes back at Butler. His burning fist connecting hard.

The skeleton threatening father Zanthus attacks Alaric instead, hitting him in the thigh.

The skeleton Alaric attacked turns its attention from Butler to Alaric. It lurches towards him, and hits with a wide slash.

Father Zanthus wakes with a start, seeing the skeletons above him, tries to crawl to safety. He strikes out with his staff, trying to hit the skeleton that downed him in the process. Though his clumsy swing shows his ineptitude with the staff as a weapon.
OOC:
All the skeletons use their maneuver to aim.
Skelton 1 vs Butler: 7 damage. Their advantage will give the next ally a Boost die, but since I was so stupid to roll all the checks at once, I’ll rule that Skelton 3 can use it next round if it survives that long.

Skeleton 3 vs Aery: 5 advantage spent like this. 3 to give itself +1 Melee Defense. And 2 to Aery’s next skill check.

Skeleton 4 vs Butler: 10 damage. Two threat will add a Boost to Butler’s next action.

Skeleton 5 vs Alaric: Triumph also counts as a success, so that’s a critical hit. 6 damage + Hamstrung: Lose your free maneuver until the end of the encounter. It’s a two difficulty crit to cure. Two advantage spent on giving Alaric a setback on his next action.

Skeleton 6 vs Alaric: 9 damage. Two threats will give Alaric a boost on his next action.

Father Zanthus: Has 1 advantage that he’ll pass on as a Boost to the next PC.

Ok, 1 setback from Skeleton 5 and 1 boost from Skeleton 6. +1 setback for their defense and +1 additional difficulty due to two weapon fighting...

Túrin: So, 9 damage, 2 Pierce to the new Skeleton attacking me. (Skeleton 6?)

Using 1 Advantage to attack with Nienor.

Nienor: 9 damage, 2 Pierce (Skeleton 5, I guess? The one I hit in the last round)

Eyeing the multiple skeletons remaining, Darakar considered who to strike at.

Alaric and Butler are both warriors, I shouldn't take their fights from them unless necessary. The chronic adopter seems to be in the most trouble.

That's because Aery is a dancer, not a fighter. He used to be a lover not a fighter and audiences applauded him wherever he went. Then a lady admirer gave him... applause with... extra clap. He used to be known as (Ladies Love) LL Cool Air but now he's known as (Ladies Avoid) LA Fire Down There. People who know him from back then say that his upright dancing has gotten better than it ever was but his opportunities for other kinds of dancing have taken a hit. Just the rumor mill. Butler makes another chip into one of the skeletons.
OOC:
Your crit is Discouraging Wound, so one dark side point is flipped to a Light Side Point.

Healing magic emanates from Jimmy and starts to heal Alaric’s wounds.

Aery takes a step back and fires off a blast at the skeleton he’s engaged with. Hitting it hard across the face. So hard the neck breaks and the head hangs on the side. Despite this it is still standing.

The first skelton attacks Butler again, ignoring the fact that he’s still on fire. But Butler parries deftly.

The one in front of Aery closes the distance by moving forward, its head dangling for each step as it attacks. It’s undead claws connecting.

The final remaining skelton also moves to attack Butler, but the fire gets too hot for him and whatever magic keeping the skeleton together crumbles as the skeleton becomes a charred spot.

Father Zanthus gets to his feet with a groan, before striking at the skelton attacking Aerys. But it sidesteps easily.
OOC:
Skeleton 1 vs Butler: Miss
Skelton 3 vs Aery: 8 damage. Using 2 advantage to give Aery a Setback on his next action. 1 Adv. to give the next skelton to act a Boost.

Father Zanthus pants as the danger seems to pass. "I'm glad I brought you friends. I seem to owe you my life once again."

"Seems whoever was behind the attack wanted me out of the way, or cause more terror," the prist says once everyone is back on their feet.

Looking into the burial chamber, you can see one of the the sarcophagus has been broken into. The remains inside have been stolen. "That grave used to belong to my predecessor. Someone has stolen his bones." He scratches the top of his head to try and make sense of the situation.
Jul 1, 2017 10:12 am
After a few grunts and quick inhales from the rough halfling handling he nods to Jimmy.

"Thanks I needed that." he state flexing on of his hands a few time into a fist and back. Using his quarterstaff he sits up as the priest explains the odd things.

"Right maybe something in his bones were needed for a ritual... or his bones were needed to find out something he knew when he was alive. We'll look about here and clean up. Maybe see if he left any journals or ledgers, maybe he hide one someplace in the church?" Aery offers up before clearing his throat.

Jul 3, 2017 4:52 am

No, he definitely appointed me. It was you who was in the nettles. You were crying because Jenna told you could use them as toilet paper and you believed her. I still can't believe you believed her about that. You were walking bow-legged and crying about your nether regions. After he appointed me as the new Sheriff, he appointed Jenna as one of my deputies and then fired his other deputy because the town couldn't afford all of us or they were going to have to raise taxes. Everyone hates taxes. The other deputy said something crazy about getting revenge or something after he got fired. Jenna offered to have an archery contest with him to decide who should get the last spot on the force as a deputy and then shot him full of arrows while he was examining the targets. It wasn't important. Anyway, I'm the new Sheriff. Father Zanthus should probably report to me, then I can tell him that I'm "on the case" and that will be true, because we are ALL on the case right now...
Alaric turns to Father Zanthus. Father Zanthus, I'm filling in for the Sheriff while he's away. These are my deputies, well, except for my clerk Aery here, who also doubles as our forensics expert. Father Zanthus, we are going to get to the bottom of this. Let's secure this tomb first, then take a look at any journals or notes your predecessor might have left behind if that's ok with you, Father?

The rest of the day passes uneventful. The scouts reports no more goblin sightings near the town and you get started on building a defensive wall.

Aldern arrives early next morning, ready for a boar hunt. "Who are coming along?" Aldern asks. "I brought horses for all of you, if need be."
Jul 10, 2017 7:59 pm
As things seem to have settled down in town Butler nods to Alderney as he finishes off his breakfast "Just let me get my gear and I'll be right with you" he turns to his companions as he gets up from the table "The rest of you coming? Things seem like they're in hand well enough here and this hunt will als give us a chance to get the lay of the land further out"

Surveying the area Aery figures out the best path down and places to investigate when a large amount of goblins would leave clues down there.

"Hmm besides scouting that's a big nope for now..." Aery mutters thinking the first thing Jimmy didn't want to do when he got back was Aery pulling down his breeches and showing him a infected wound.

"To the secret archives." he states to himself with a nod and turns to find out what he could at the church with the Father. Worse case that'd be a bust but maybe he could sneak a class of wine.
Jul 20, 2017 1:45 pm
Early in the afternoon you find your first boar, and are able to surround it and herd it in the direction you want. Butler is able to take the killing blow, earning a great deal of respect from Aldern.

You have barely dealt with one bore when you spot another in the distance. A hard ride, and a wild hunt later you have bagged yourself a second bore.

It’s the early afternoon, when you think you spot something in the edge of your vision. Turning your heads, you see nothing, though you could swear there was something there moments earlier.
Aery, you make your way back to the church, and explain you purpose to father Zathus. He looks at you with a sad look. "Most of the old records went up in flames along with the old cathedral," he explains, leading you into a sparse office. You can see a few religious texts, but very little in the way of books. "There may be one who can help. There’s an old crackpot at the edge of town. He calls himself a historian, though his theories are on the wild side."

Jul 26, 2017 1:31 pm
Aery nods understanding and asks if he could look around for a secret compartment that could be used to hide documents in case of a disaster or fire. Once he's been given the go ahead and looks around or not he'll head off to the Old Historic Crackpot...

"He have a name? This Mr. Historian Crackpot?"
Jul 31, 2017 6:19 pm
"Just don't break anything," Father Zanthus agrees to let you look around.

"Brodert Quink," the priest tells you the historian's name, giving you direction to a building at the edge of town.
The rest of you make your way back towards town. Aldern facinated by the days catch. "If you're ever in Magnimar I have a family estate that you're welcome to stay at should you need it," he tells you. "Though the places you have seen must make Magnimar dull by comparison."
Jul 31, 2017 6:39 pm
Aery nods knowingly that most priest don't like their church being broken apart and goes about searching where he thinks good hiding places would be based on carpentry layout of the place. Once he's search and exhausted hiding place he'll head to Mr. Quink's place.
Jul 31, 2017 7:22 pm
Butler chuckles at Aldern's comment "Well if it's any more exciting at Magnimar than the sleepy little town of Sandpoint I think I'll need a few weeks to rest before I can brave it!"
Aug 6, 2017 1:04 pm
Aldern laughs heartily at Butler's joke. "Well, I have been to Sandpoint many a time," he smiles back. "And only been almost killed by goblins once."

Aery, you start to look through the building. You know that anything left over from the old church would be in the basement. Walking into the basement you stop up for a moment instinctively. Something doesn’t add up.

You quickly realize that there’s an empty space unaccounted for between two rooms, and knocking on the wall proves there’s something behind the wall. Not wanting to break the wall you search methodically through the wall and find a small section that can be pushed to open a small crawlspace into the mysterious room.

Upon pressing it father Zanthus gasps in surprise. "I had no idea that was here."
It’s getting late in the day when you return to the town, and it seems to stand still despite your absence. You are hoping for some peace and quiet as you head to the Rusty Dragon for a boar meal.
OOC:

Convention I guess caught up that I was at and I'm sore as hell from the neck down.
"That makes sense Father if you're not looking for something hidden you rarely notice it, that by design." Aery offers up rummaging through his gear for a candle to light.

"Well if I you hear the screaming let the others know I died valantly staring into the abyss... I'm hoping I come back just fine though." Aery admits before going to investigate.
Aug 25, 2017 12:35 pm
Aery, you crawl through the crawlspace and it opens into a small room with a rickety old stairwell going further down. It hasn’t been maintained for ages but it still holds your weight as you walk down. It opens into a small room that holds a couple of shelves with musty old books.

The tunnel continues further into the dark, beneath the town streets.
The rest of you are just about to head for the Rusty Dragon when you hear a crying woman running down the street towards you. She’s trying to say something, but it is impossible to make out between her sobs and crying. As she comes closer you realize she’s clutching a baby.
Aug 25, 2017 1:59 pm
Butler drops the end of the boar he was helping carry and moves towards her "Easy, try to...please what's wrong?"
Aug 25, 2017 2:15 pm
Aery pulls out a small book jotting down things for notes on the area mapping it and getting distances for later trying to figure out exactly how far under ground he was and what was over him in town and where the path lead for later use for telling the others.

He'll investigate the books if it looks like there are an amount easily carried he'll put them in his bag. If not he'll read through to see what he can figure out and take the important ones to read before heading back up.

"Good news, I'm alive. Unknown state of news, there's a series of passages down there beneath the town streets, any idea if there's a way to get under the town besides this way? Also how many buildings have a foundation as old as this church???" Aery explains dusting himself off and paws his hands since he's found a puzzle for him to figure out he gathers. He'll wait for the response from the Clergymen before heading out.
OOC:
It sounds like the stairs might not hold our bulkier party members so I was making notes for climbing gear down just in case they break the stairs and more in case we need to climb out from another area. Looking over the books they are so old the paper almost cracks the moment you touch them. There’s too many too take in one go, and some have even faded titles. Though a few seems newer in that they are only a few decades old. One of the newer once seems to be a journal of some kind.

She points down the street explaining where she lives.
"Heh. I’d be the wrong man to ask," Father Zanthus replies. "While I don’t support the idea of every Varisian being a sczarni, but I am sure some are around. I’ve also heard rumors that Lonjiku Kaijitsu made his fortunes by not strictly legal means. But then again, you don’t become the richest man in town without ruffling a few feathers, so I’d put that rumor up to jealousy."

Aery, as you come out you realize you’ve spent more time than you had planned as you see the setting sun. Across the yard you see Butler running past with his sword drawn.

Butler: The crying boy outside tells you that you are on the right track. You pushes aside the door and can hear the sounds of struggle from further inside. Following the sounds you see a man lying on his belly, with most of his torso within a closet. You can see his legs kicking, and he’s making a strange gurgling like sound.
Sep 4, 2017 5:08 pm
Butler runs over and around the side of the closet, sword at the ready to deal with whatever is attacking the figure on the floor.
Sep 5, 2017 12:45 am
Aery mutters to himself that he can never have a full day of just normal day of using his brain and runs to catch up after Butler wondering where the rest are. See the situation Aery's face hardens a bit seeing Butler move to ready an attack He takes a breath moving to a defensive stance the tip of his quaterstaff hovering over the ground.

"I got some skeletons in my closet; And I don't know if no one knows it; So before they thrown me inside my coffin and close it, I spit in their face and knuckle up cause fear floats right off me you know this." Aery states his voice becoming melodic as he tries to get a good look at what likely is still attacking the man if he's still alive.

Aery, your bolt strikes the goblin. Already damaged and ravaged already it is enough to kill it. It makes a shriek as it goes limp in the man's fists. He seems to be in shock, and is still grabbing it and holding the dead body down.
OOC:
Remember when using ranged attacks against someone engaged with someone (in this case the man grabbing the goblin) you upgrade the difficulty once. I'll let it slide this time.
Sep 13, 2017 8:13 pm
OOC:
Ah, forgot about that my apologies.
Aery points to the man asking Lee to look him over.

"You doing okay now? Helluva Afternoon huh? Your boy seemed to be concerned and got help. What happened? Did he come from inside here? Are there others?" Aery asks quickly grabbing light and inspecting the area the two came from looking for a secret entrance again similar to what he's found possibly.

If they've been mucking about under the town for a day or so... searching maybe... Aery thinks to himself his brow furrowing up.

I'll check the wounded man's wounds. I'd like to make a Medicine check to tend to his wounds. Using my healer's kit to get 1 advantage. I don't know what his wounds or wound threshold are, so I'll leave the difficulty to you, SA.

Alaric bumps the door open with the heel of his left boot, without taking his eyes from scanning the street, windows, rooftops, and alleys for signs of danger. You guys ok in there? he asks his companions quietly.
Sep 18, 2017 1:44 pm
"We're good, man's getting healed up... where's the boy tell him his old man's okay and to come back in." Aery explains in a loud whisper before starting to move things out of the closet trying to figure out how the Goblin got in since he's still thinking secret door.
Sep 18, 2017 6:41 pm
"I don’t know," the man mutters. "I didn’t know. The dog was acting crazy all day, and then Aeren complained about a monster in the closet."

Jimmy, you are able to stablize the man and get him back on his feet. The man is in no danger of dying anymore. He’ll probably be in a little pain for a couple of days.

Aery, as you clean out the closet you find a small hole in the back that leads into the crawlspace underneath the house. Next to the entrance lies a dead dog. The goblin’s fear of dogs was probably what saved the family. An exhaustive search later makes you pretty sure there are no more nasty surprises waiting, and as far as you can tell, the goblin fled into the crawlspace underneath the house during the attack. There he seems to have gotten lost inside, trying to find some way out of it.
Sep 18, 2017 7:38 pm
OOC:
I do not feel sorry for the Goblin. Just saying.
Sep 18, 2017 7:38 pm
"Huh, your dog was trying to warn you of this goblin for a while most likely. It's likely it got separated during the raids and hide in here to lay low and was trying to figure out how to get back. This hole always been back here? I'm going to check out the crawl space but... You might want to do something with what happened with your dog before your son sees... We might want to get some hunting dogs together and search the town for Goblins just in case this isn't the only wayward goblin fellas." Aery explained trying to figure out if he could fit into the crawlspace to check things out. He'll check the hole to see if it was a few days fresh or always like this.
Sep 21, 2017 6:45 am
So, do we need to be checking under each of the houses to flush out any other of these bums?
Sep 22, 2017 6:49 pm
Once everyone is safe, you mount an exhaustive search through town, trying to suss out any more goblins. But if there’s any, they are hiding exceptionally well.

Tired and exhausted you return to the inn, where you find Aldern waiting. The feast is more somber than he had wanted, but Ameiko is wonderful cook and it taste marvellously.

"It saddens me that supper has almost turned to breakfast, but I hope you’ll take the time to feast with me," he says. "I’m leaving for Magnimar the day after tomorrow. May I enquire what your plans are for the future?"
Sep 22, 2017 8:02 pm
"Spulunk a bit under the town in the secret passageways, talk to local shady individuals that may be using it for smuggling to find other or easier to get into entrances/exits, it might be why the city was attacked since the tunnels are very old... We still need to check out where the raiders went right? Nettles were involved I believe." Aery states between mouths of food.
OOC:
I take it the crawlspace was just a crawlspace nothing hidden like at the church.

"You are too kind sir" Butler says as he joins Aldern "A breakfast it maybe but I've rarely had finer" he says with a smile. After he has helped himself to some food Butler responds to his question "I honestly hadn't given it much thought. I cannot leave the people here until they are adequately able to protect themselves from further attacks but once that is attended to then I may return to the road once more....we will see"
Sep 23, 2017 5:37 am
Alaric eats in silence, enjoying the meal, keeping his back to the wall and an eye on the door and windows.
Sep 25, 2017 6:25 pm
"Yes, but with your mighty show of force, I bet it's a long time until the goblins dare another attack," Aldern replies between mouthfuls. "Yes, I imagine sheriff Hemlock is thankful for your efforts."

"Smuggler tunnels you say? How exciting. What would you even smuggle in a small town such as this?"
Sep 26, 2017 4:23 pm
"I'm more concerned with the one commanding the attacks and why really." Aery states with a sigh wiping his face, "Well from a mercantile perspective if it's not selling you don't bother transporting it if there's no demand... can you think of anything around these parts you wouldn't want to openly transport or let people know you're selling?" he adds fishing for a read on Aldern.
Sep 28, 2017 3:35 am
Alaric listens closely, continuing to eat.
Sep 28, 2017 1:58 pm
"Drugs, weapons, dark magics," Aldern shrugs. "It is the only things I can think of. Don't know how extensive it is, but wherever humans settles, those horrors follow. And after recent events people need a little something to keep calm or feel safe."
Sep 28, 2017 2:17 pm
Butler looks thoughtful for a few moments before speaking again "Perhaps it would be best to speak with the Sheriff and see if there is anything else that we are needed for here. If not it may be time to see if there is anything for us further afield" he pauses for a moment, glancing round at his new found companions "I know we have only known each other for a short time but we seem to work well together and we would certainly be able to do more as a group than individually"
Sep 30, 2017 7:11 pm
Well, I believe it merits investigation. I agree that we work well as a group, Butler. Dark Magic and drugs are both dangerous and can cause great harm, as history shows.

You finish your meal and retire to your rooms. When you wake you can smell Ameiko’s cooking wafting up from downstair. Seems you have slept all the way until lunch.

Your rest is interrupted however when you can hear a door slam in the common room, then a man’s voice shouting in some strange language.
Oct 2, 2017 1:35 pm
Aery grumbles and snatched up his staff and bounds downstairs, "Oh someone's getting tapped in the family business this morning..." he states as he moves down the stairs to find out what's going on.
Oct 3, 2017 9:56 pm
Alaric orders Jenna to stay in the stable with Stormbringer and checks his weapons quickly before running toward the sounds, crossbow drawn and ready for action.
Oct 4, 2017 5:02 pm
You arrive in the common room, seeing an older man of Tian descent. He is switching between his native tongue and common, and you can make out a few words here and there. "Where the hell is my daughter?!"

Seeing Aery come down the stairs seems to distract him from his original purpose. "You! Are you and your ilk still in town!?" he bellows. "Haven't you done enough harm to this city with your ill-advised antics against the goblins?!"
Oct 4, 2017 5:47 pm
Aery slows and gives pause doing mental gymnastics until he gets back in pace realizing he hasn't done anything with anyone's daughter in the last few days due to the series of events that occurred.

"First off, morning sir, names Aery." Aery states looking at the man as he bounds the rest of the way down the stairs, "Second your daughter have a name that you seemed to have lost?" he adds cocking his neck from side to side, "I noticed you've opted to mention us as ilk... you know the people the sheriff appointed while he's away requesting help to protect the town due to what we do and not you. There's been collateral damage to be sure but I'm sure you've been busy as work fixing the damages from raiding goblins and realized the difference in the damage we caused versus raiders, tending to the wounded before we started saving people, figuring out why they attack and if they're coming back." Aery states almost venomously.

"I also noticed you've opted to vent with the shortest member of our party so you want to take a minute and calm down and choose some sensible words and have a request for me or us ilk? Or is Aery going to have to cook up and feed you a gnome knuckle sandwich for breakfast..." Aery states his nostrils flaring.
Oct 6, 2017 3:59 pm
"I've always said the sheriff has the decision making ability of a dung beetle," the old man replies. "And yes, she has a name. A name I'll soon disown if she continues this mad idea of running an inn. You may be the smallest, and like a cockroach you are still around unlike the rest of your group. If and when they show up, they too will be the subject of my scorn. Maybe they've had the common decency to leave like the dangerous criminals they are."
Oct 6, 2017 4:10 pm
Hearing the commotion Butler moves down the stairs carrying his sheaves sword in his hand. As he gets to the bottom he hears the tail end of the mans rant and moves to support Aery.
Oct 6, 2017 4:33 pm
"Ah well I guess I have a clean and professional relationship with your daughter, patron and proprietor." Aery states coming down, "If you have an issue with the Sheriff's performance you can always take it up with the local magistrate or with the Sheriff directly. You know most insects are quite interesting if you take the time to think about it. Cockroaches you would think would have died off long ago... granted there's always a mess of some sort for them to get into and they rarely have time to grouse about how things could be better and different when they aren't. They're around, likely still tired from a day's trek around the area and then saving someone with a goblin hiding in their house..." Aery fires back noticing the larger man Ashdown, "I'll talk to our healer maybe his knowledge of medicine will prove fruitful in aiding you to pull whatever stick has lodged itself inside your nether region out." states more calmly with a nod, "Innkeeper, I'd like some breakfast and some old guy would like to rant for a bit... do we have an soapboxes?" he adds smiling impishly, "I should thank you though old man, an early morning rant does get the cockle of my criminally riddled heart going." Aery states stretching and walks off to find the daughter of the mad man realizing his screamings first thing in the morning wasn't something adventurers can fix.
Oct 6, 2017 10:19 pm
Alaric bursts through the front door, crossbow at the ready and covering the room. Seeing no immediate threat besides the innkeeper confronting Aery, What is the commotion here! There are enemies aplenty who seek to destroy you and yet you stand here fighting? Alaric snarls in frustration. As the acting Sheriff during his absence, everyone who has the excess energy to fight among themselves are hereby recruited into the militia. Some time on the practice ground will help you protect your homes from future attacks and will burn off some of that excess energy!

Sorry for not posting more. I've been pretty busy with school and work.
I'm walking down the stairs, rubbing sleep out of my eyes and wondering what in the 9 circles of hell is going on. When I see what is happening, I'll attempt a Charm check against the old man to calm him down. (Leaving the difficulty to the GM)

As more of you arrive and he finds himself outnumbered, the old man snorts. "I’m not here for you in any case."

He turns his back to you and his attention to one of the serving ladies. "Bring out my daughter this instant! I’m sure she’s hiding in the kitchen."

The serving lady yelps, and nods before hurrying towards the kitchen.
OOC:
You ended up with 1 success and 1 threat. For your threat you suffer 1 strain, all this stress before you’ve had your morning coffee is not good.
Oct 9, 2017 10:43 pm
I approach the old gentleman. Dear sir, please calm down. Please have breakfast with me, your lovely daughter can join us and perhaps you can enlighten me as to how you believe that we prevent the goblins from attacking this town. There is more than one way solve problems; diplomacy intelligence military economics. Please share any insights you have with me.
Oct 13, 2017 9:06 pm
Alaric gets food from the kitchen and returns to the barn to eat with Jenna and Stormbringer, pausing briefly to glance around the common room. Training ground, 1 hour! He barked before continuing to the barn.
Oct 15, 2017 8:01 am
The man turns to you and are about to reply when Ameiko arrives from the kitchen. An apron covering her clothes and a soup ladle in her hand.

She says something in some foreign language. He replies and a heated argument starts than ends with her returning to the common tongue. "Leave my inn this very moment!"

He walks angrily over to her, and tries to grab her her, but she dodges and brains him with her soup ladle.

Her father stands there shocked for a moment until he finds his voice. "You are as dead to me as your mother!" he exclaims as he brushes past Jimmy again.
Oct 16, 2017 9:08 am
As he brushes past me, I grasp the man firmly by his shoulder. I couldn't help but notice your pain. Share it with me.

Coercion Check to make the old man confess to me as his priest in private and unburden his soul. Hopefully I can help him. I don't know the difficulty on this.

Aery takes the opposite route of Jimmy and follows Ameiko to find out about things, they had a lot left to do but he'd prefer to have someplace left to come back to that wasn't a battle field of sorts for family disputes with warm food and peaceful.

"Want us break his legs? I mostly mean trip and hope for the best." Aery offers up once some time and distance between her and her father have passed, "So your 'father' seems to be upset he can't control you or your life. Feel like venting. Also run some water on that soup ladle the souring of the soup from that man isn't the best of things for the soup. No one likes curdled soup." he offers up.
Oct 16, 2017 8:59 pm
OOC:
I see what you two did there. "Pain" by Tupac I'm guessing? With the intro from Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. And Aery is trying to get into a girl's pants... No surprise there :) j/k
Oct 17, 2017 5:02 pm
Ameiko smiles. "No worries. My father has always been like that. He want me to leave town along with him, don't think it's safe with all you brigands loitering about," she replies. "Circular logic. We didn't have goblin problems before you showed up, so he thinks it'll go away if you do. That old what came first debate, adventurers or need for adventurers."

"But seeing as you stood up for me, free fish soup for you," she says moving back to the kitchen.
Oct 17, 2017 5:48 pm
Aery follows for free food. "I thought this was the first time the village dealt with brigands and goblins like this. Has it happened before?" he inquires finding a spoon so he can have a fishy breakfast.
OOC:
Don't forget Jimmy vs Salty Crumudgeon
Oct 18, 2017 2:02 pm
I want the old fellow to confess his fears and see what I can do to give him peace of mind. Or at least get him settled down and see if there is any chance at all that he has useful information.
Oct 25, 2017 4:20 am
Once breakfast is finished, Alaric is going to ask the town crier to announce that the militia is recruiting volunteers to begin practicing to defend the town for one hour each day. Any volunteers should report to the training grounds each morning. In the meantime, Alaric is going to take Jenna to the training grounds to practice archery and sparring with her for about an hour.
