Hi peeps, that would be the end of this little adventure. I wanted to get your thoughts on how things have gone, have you all enjoyed the game, did I run things ok for you all? Any comments you have would be good and appreaciated even if you felt things didn't go well (especially any of those instances).

The 'Eisen' had the Wily virtue hence his ability to slip away at the end.

For myself you have all been amazing, my issues with running this have been purely around struggling to get a firm feel for the system. To me things feel a little....loose. The lack of risk when you are doing things in ascene seems a little odd and it felt often like we were just in sort of an odd game of resource management. Not sure if I'm completely sold on the system as yet but that could be more down to this having been a scenario I pulled off of the Explorers Society and not something I came up with myself. As I said though I'm really interested in knowing your thoughts about how things have gone.

I had fun playing the salty "I'm too old for this Shtick" shtick.

My real time face to face group GM had a rough time with this as well for the spread of things going on during a scene it's a lot more improve I think then people realize for the GM for hard plot points/story line I think. It's been my second game on GP also and both have had those epic feels for the scenes, it's not always about combat mind you so doing other things and being to affect the outcome I think is nice.

It's a great system I think to roleplay in and XP is dynamic yet complex in that you as the player push towards completing your personal story and the GM throwing out hooks and opportunities for that for all the players plus weaving in the overall story was what my other GM struggled with.

Thanks for running. Private Kraken is dismissed on liberty. I think it would be an interesting story in the future for a setting, Three Ships One Squid.

The system was confusing at first, and more toward the end, for me, particularly in Oportunities. I got it in my head that the ones you listed were the only ones I could use, and they didn't seem to be what I wanted to do. If I played again, I'd re-read the rules to see how to do other things.

It definitely hinted at the epic side of combat, and the inherent drama really added hooks to roleplay off of.

Definitely seemed like a lot of work for the GM, so thanks for putting in that effort and introducing me to an interesting system.

The wonky thing about the system is you can create opportunities for people to use instead of taking an action I think. Asking Wick at Gen Con how do you run 7th Sea is like asking a Philosophy major how they're doing and you don't get an easy to understand answer from either situation.

For my real time group we ended at me sitting in a chair that turned into a demon with me in his lap. I would obvious be killed so the session ended with me asking if they'd like to be freed or would they be willing to hire on as a freelance pirate with us. GM laughed and ended the session/later the game so I never got the chance to find out. Nothing like having a demon pet your hair and realize you're sitting on their lap.

I love the setting, and the interactions with the other characters. I don't know about the action mechanics though.

It might be the PbP context, but I found myself having issues knowing what my options and limitations were. It didn't exactly help that I made a complicated character (focusing on non-combat skills and prefering not to do combatty stuff unless he has to). If I'd made a character that could go for the shoot/stab/steer options, this probably wouldn't have been as much of an issue. I thought I'd have more opportunities to do supportive actions when I made him. It didn't help that the situation sometimes shifted after we'd declared our actions (ending up with a lot of notice raises when there didn't seem to be much more to notice and so on).

It definitely seems to be a system that heavily leans on the face to face interplay to get the most out of it. the AP's I've seen all had a lot of ideas bouncing round the table as the game was going which seemed to work really well - in a pbp format that's not really possible and it seems like the game suffered a bit as a result.

I'm afraid at this point I've pretty much decided I'm not going to carry on with 7th Sea at the moment so I'll be closing this game off. The mechanics in the game just don't jive well with me in at least a pbp format (and I suspect the same niggles would still be there for me if I was to run this in a face to face game) but I love the setting so I'm hoping to convert it to another system (possibly Genesys). Thankyou so much again for being awesome in this game, my issues with the system aside I've had a lot of fun running this for you all and I loved the RP you all brought to the 'table'

Well I enjoyed it. Nothing like playing an old salty dog of the sea. "You know back in the day, I had a private under me that was a Kraken." People roll eyes, "Sergeant Kraken another barrel of grog!"
