Llorenco takes the wound and returns fire with his own pistol simultaneously. Black powder smoke surrounds them as the little man trades shots with the enemy captain. Eye to eye, toe to toe, ready for whatever comes, but Llorenco leave nothing in reserve, leaving himself wide open with his effort.
OOC:
If I can spend all four raises for damage, let's do that.
May 25, 2018 9:36 pm
The enemy captain drops to one knee as Llorenco's shot slams into him. Almost snarling he staggers back to his feet and stumbles forward.
OOC:

"It makes more sense to surrender after this, you might feel this." Christian states rushed forward and grunting as he shoves the cannonball at the pirates lobbing it with a mighty roar. He eyes more canonballs.
OOC:
Since we are heroes and we dont kill (it's actually in the rules) could we go with it whizzes by his head and goes overboard with him realizing I may have missed purposely.
I'm fine with spending however seems approiate.

OOC:
Well you can actually kill it's just any non-villains that do get corruption points for doing so (as per the RAW) and once you have corruption it's only a matter of time before you become a Villain in your own right (and as such an NPC). I'm going to be a bit looser on corruption than in the rules as I personally don't see a hero killing an opponent in a kill or be killed situation as a cause to gain corruption (bit different if the villain is down for the count and a 'hero' wants to finish him off to avoid complications later) as there are no end of movies and books where the hero's kill for good and just reasons.

At any rate for anyone to kill someone else they have to make a deliberate action to kill them, simply doing an attack won't be enough to finish someone off without a specifically declared intent to do so.
The cannonball sails towards the enemy captain and thuds into his groin. A collective groan goes out from the crew in sympathy as his eyes go wide, his sword clattering to the deck as he folds into a ball of agony.
OOC:
Ok, I'm taking the liberty of assuming you would spend 2 raises on the action (as if you only spent 1 you'd be going again before the enemy captain anyway) which would do enough regular wounds to him to push him to his third dramatic wound which is where I'd decided I was going to have him surrender anyway

After a few moments of everyone staring at the downed enemy captain you all hear the voice of Captain Aipajawa shouting out "Right, fun's over! Secure the prisoners and see to our wounded!".

As the rest of the crew start scrambling about she comes over to the three of you. "Nice work" she says with a smile "You handled yourselves very well. See what you lot can do to figure out why on Theah these pirates thought there was a good reason for attacking an empty whaler" she then turns and starts moving about to make sure the rest of the crew are on with their tasks.

The three of you stand together pondering your next move.
OOC:
Ok, we're out of the combat scene now so you're free to approach the investigation however you want. It's not a Risk (so no roll needed) unless you want to undertake a way of investigating that may pose a chance of failure (in which case I'll ask for an appropriate roll)

"Aye, Captain. Excuse me for a moment while I check the wounded. Let me know if he needs attention." Gesturing to the enemy Captain, Bastien salutes his own Captain and makes a small nod to his crewmates before taking the rounds to check the wounded along with his surgeon's mate.
OOC:
Bastien will check his own crew first, then the enemy crew, smooth talking them as he goes, both giving care and gaining intel.

Llorenco keeps half an eye on the crew as he ties the enemy captain to the mast. "What say you, blaggard? What be making an empty whaler fittin' pickings for a triangular fin o' the seas? Answer easy and ye won't need to taste our keel."

Satterson face grows dark as he lets go of the cannonball and events transpire.

With others taking care of things on board Satterson eventually gets moving as well moving to the edge of the ship letting the pirate ship know they'll send over the captain possibly when the questions were answered and he could walk.

"My apologies, that was suppose to go by your head, think I may have let go a bit early on that toss.... dreadfully sorry. On the bright side if it had his you higher you may be dead now... Let us know if you can't stand due to the pain... We can at least let him sit considering what happened right?" Satterson explains looking to Quintanillas to see if he had the buy in. Making a man stand after taking a cannon ball to the family jewels might be considered punishment. The pirates at least would likely back off considering this though.

Bastien makes short work of patching up the Diamants crew before moving onto the injured from the enemy vessel. As he treats the minor injuries and moves about the crew of the other ship he finds them starting to open up to him...
OOC:
Azira - make a Wits + Convince check please.
Qralloq - can you make a Brawn + Intimidate check please. You can get a bonus dice for Satterson's assistance.

You'll get to ask a question for each raise you get as part of the 'interrogations' - remember you can spend Hero Points to get extra dice on the check or to engage any applicable Advantages that you feel might be relevant

Llorenco looms his small form over the wounded man, oozing his best meanness.

Edit: 2 raises, 1 leftover

While bandaging a cracked head, Bastien sighs. "What a waste. Nonsensical violence. No purpose.." He tightens the bandage, and gives one end to the patient. "Here, hold this." Taking out his scissors he snips the other end off, then retrieves the first end and fastenes them. "Say, what were you doing out here anyhow? Why attack a whaling ship?"
OOC:
Edit:
Three raises (10, 9+2, 9+4) one leftover (8)

Satterson will see if he's needed to look big and intimidating. If not he'll palm the cannonball check the deck and put it back. After making sure anything didn't need to be done immediately he'll eventually go back up to the Crow's nest to check around. If they can solve this peacefully that would be great but if any Naval ships spotted this situation it'd get more complicated.

Bastien - the pirate you are treating is one of the two who surrendered. They seem to be a little more forthcoming that their fellows. As you ask her she shrugs a little "We were supposed to keep watch for whaling ships that didn’t have a red pennant flying from the top of the mainmast. No idea why."

Llorenco - As you loom a little of the backbone goes out of the enemy captain "I was contracted to attack whaling ships. The contract did not make any distinction for ships that were fully laden or empty"

Satterson - As you get back to the crows nest you are releived to see no other vessels on the horrizon. As you take a moment to think your thoughts turn the small chest you grabbed from the enemy ship and you consider whether there is anything else of value ove on the other vessel.
OOC:
Azira - you can pose another couple of questions to random crew if you want or you can use the last 2 raises to ask the captain something whilst you check his injuries.

Qralloq - You can ask one more question of the enemy captain.

"Very peculiar. Doesn't seem lucrative though.." Tucking in the bandage neatly, he straightens it somewhat. "That should be allright now. Try to rest, but don't sleep yet. Let me know if it get's worse." Packing his stuff back up, he remarks. "Going after whaling ships doesn't seem to make sense at all. Where were you when you got the order? Captain been off ship speaking to anyone right before?"
OOC:
I like my angle atm, I'll try to dig more with the crew for now. Might come over to be the good cop afterwards, let's see where Qralloq's bad cop get's us first.

Satterson will let their Captain know recompense for this assault are in order from the look around the pirate's ship can 'afford it' plus giving back their captain coming at a fee will have them off licking wounds and restocking instead of out at sea pillaging.

Llorenco views the Doctor's efforts at bandaging up the crew. His teeth grip, tendons standing out on his jaw as his knuckles whiten into fists. "The contract didn't make any distinction... You chose!!?? Damn your hide, man. Tell me who gave you this glorious contract that you are so blindly blunt in carrying out!"

To control his temper, he reloads his pistol carefully.

Bastien - the sailor shrugs "I saw the captain talking with a big fella, was missing an arm, the day before we set sail. That's when the captain ordered the lookout to keep an eye out whaling ships....he was quite specific about 'em not flying a red pennant though" she thinks for a moment and shrugs "If I had to bet I'd say it was that fella givin the captain his orders but I didn't hear what was being said"

Llorenco - the enemy captain sneers a little at your criticism "I was paid to do a job little man. I am not in the business of questioning the company" at that his eye's go a little wide as he realises he has said more than he wanted to, his mouth snapping shut and him drawing the conversation to a close. The only company of any note in this region that comes to mind is the Atabean Trading Company, the thought of being tangled in their business does not sit particularly well.

Satterson - Captain Aipajawa thinks for a moment "Mr Satterson, take a prize crew aboard the other ship and see if there is anything of value aboard her and make an assessment if she's worth taking back to port". She nods, leaving you to your new duties before moving off to see to something else.
Jun 2, 2018 8:04 pm
Patting the shoulder of the forthcoming sailor gently, Bastien nods. "Indeed, that would be my guess as well." With a smile, he retrieves a small bottle from his inner pocket. "Say. I don't usually prescribe rum to crewmen with head injuries, but in your case I think it would be pertinent." He allows the sailor a swig of the bottle before moving on to the rest of the enemy crew.

Coming up to Lorenco and the enemy Captain, he opens his doctor's bag and starts tending to the Captain's superficial wounds. "Well, how are we doing?" He remarks in a tone that could be equally to Lorenco or the enemy Captain.
OOC:
So, I still have a raise left. We got some good intel so far. Is there more we want to know? Their home port, or something more about the trading company? (Lorenco will have to prod me in the right direftion for that one however, since Bastien haven't overheard the conversation)
Jun 2, 2018 9:46 pm
"Our dear friend was just telling me about why the Atabean Trading Company wanted the fleet of whalers in this sea shortened," Llorenco summarizes.
