"Quintanillas! There be cannon fire in the seas under those clouds? I can't see another ship but there's always the possibility it's target is below the surf? Shall we let The Diamant know?" he belts out waiting for a response and decision on if they get closer to investigate or let the other ship know first so he can start flag signaling.

Satterson squints and verifies before bellowing down the situation.

"Aye!" he calls back. "Watch, signal the Diamant. We'll see what's what."
"Helmsman, take us up wind of that ship."

Seeing the dark skies in the horizon, Bastien frowns he hears the call from the crow's nest. With a sigh, he walks up to the bridge to lean on the railing near Llorenco. With half-hearted bravado, he makes a remark to the Castillian. "Storms and cannonfire? Fitting shakedown for our new vessel, wouldn't you say?"
Remembering something, he yells up to the crow's nest. "Mr. Satterson! Please do tell us if you see them flying a red flag."

Satterson will signal the Diamant to report in before looking specifically for red flags if he doesn't recall it standing out. He'll also look for anything in the surf like the remains of a sinking ship or something else.

Let’s have a roll from Saterson to see just how much he picks up. Give me a Wits + Notice roll with the bonus die for Sea Legs and any from Hero Points if you want to spend any (Satterson has 4 currently). Don’t need to worry about spending any raises, I’m wanting to use it for the more you get the more details you can pick out Aug 16, 2018 3:19 pm
Satterson signals and waits for a response looking through his spyglass. His jaw sets firmly wondering how they'll tackle this considering their current two ships and tension aboard his current ship. Nothing like a bit of battle at sea to bond over for crewmen... he thinks to himself waiting for a response.
Update: 2 Raises with two alibis
OOC:
I should probably start using these since they'll fizzle out soon. Wits+Notice+First Use+Sea legs is 7d10 don't have the book so unsure how many die an HP give so I'll just add one.Update: 2 Raises with two alibis

As Satterson casts any eye over the scene with his spyglass he does make out a red pennant flying from the mast of the ship. The thing he finds most odd however if the way they are firing the cannons, pretty much all of the shots seem to be angles down into the water incredibly close to the ship.
Aug 17, 2018 4:09 pm
"Aye red pennants flying and cannons shooting into the waters around their ship... maybe this 'The Eisen' wants the beast wounded to 'magic' it's mind while it's reeling about. I'll let them know as well!" Satterson bellows down before signaling the other ship that there's a possible kraken in the waters ahead where the ship with red flags skirts the storm and magic is possibly getting ready to be used.
Aug 17, 2018 4:16 pm
Llorenco pauses. "Get us closer, helmsman, but this might be a hunt for the Diamant, so keep us defensive upwind."
Aug 17, 2018 4:51 pm
"Quintanillas that be the whaling ship that paid off the pirates to sink competition." Satterson points out from above.
Aug 17, 2018 5:32 pm
"Aye, but it's hunting our prey. Tis the Diamant that is suited for Kraken fishing. We'll support her and keep the other whaler honest."
Aug 17, 2018 6:22 pm
"Bit late to keep 'em honest 'init..." Satterson states looking at the ship they're currently on with a devilish grin wondering if they're going to possibly do some naval tactics.

Bastien takes out his spyglass, staring at the action with a quizzical expression. The mythical beast? Surely not? Or, can it be?
Aug 20, 2018 9:05 pm
The Diamant signals back and starts moving in against the other ship but you quickly loose sight of her in the rough conditions. As both she and the Tempest close Satterson, using his spyglass, can make out some more details about the other ship. The name Southern Star is emblazoned across the stern of the vessel and there is a stern looking, one armed man on the aftercastle appears to be shouting orders to the crew. What everyone can make out through the increasingly choppy conditions is that the sea around the Southern Star seems to be behaving....strangely.

Ok, we're going to head into an Action Sequence now so can I please get some approaches and rolls peeps (we're nearing the end of the 'session' so you should feel free to use some of those Hero Points)Aug 21, 2018 6:09 am

Llorenco is good by me. Bastien is no captain. I'd be ok making Lorenco captain on a permanent basis. Bastien can be quite arrogant and bossy, but he knows what he doesn't know about a ship (which is plenty). What do you think, Remnant?

Seeing (or hearing about) the Diamant's disposition, Llorenco orders the helmsman to steer upwind and post the fight, then drive past the whaler for a broadside. The timing is crucial, for the chop and the angle could both make their shots less effective while giving the Southern Star. Even if the angle goes well, they'll be at speed in rough water.
"Ready the mainsail to come about hard downwind. Roll out the port cannons for a broadside, but tie them down for rough water!" Llorenco continues to tell orders, glancing at his officers for updates before the plunge.
Edit: 9+8,4+4+1+1 = 2 with a 1 left over
Edit 2: forgot the hero point. Is that a free success or extra die?

Just before a confrontation with a Villain occurs, spend a Hero Point and make some sort of pithy or clever comment about how ?When things look darkest, that?s when souls shine brightest.? Each Hero?that hears the speech?counts all dice that roll equal to or under his Skill on his next roll as 10s.

If Satterson uses Warfare, I could use Wits+Notice. (I'd try to rouse the crew, but Bastien doesn't have anything in perform).

Players may use Hero Points for the following benefits:
• Add one bonus d10 to his roll before a Risk. A player may spend multiple Hero Points in this fashion on a single Risk.
• Add three bonus d10s to another Hero’s roll before a Risk. This represents the first Hero helping the second in some way, even if it is only moral support; a Hero can only accept help from one other Hero at a time.
• Activate a special ability on his Hero Sheet. A player may spend multiple Hero Points on different special abilities on a single Risk.
• Take an Action while Helpless. A player may spend multiple Raises on this Action, just as if they were not Helpless. See page 181 for more on becoming Helpless.
