Alright. I am part of another game of Pathfinder Playtest, so letting you know ahead of time that unless something goes wrong with the other one, it's very likely that I will not actually be playing this game. Once I find out for sure I will let you know.

No worries. I've already spoken to the person running that game. If you end up in that one I understand.
Aug 8, 2018 2:42 am
You have?

It's not on this website. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. Being organized on a Discord server actually (not the gp one, different one)

In that case, no. I had spoken with someone else who was interested in maybe starting a game and said you were interested in they were looking for players, but I guess that wasn't the same game!

I'm going out on a limb here, but while everyone is crafting characters, I'm correct in assuming we're playing Doomsday Dawn, right? I just want to make sure as I prep myself. We don't have to, but I wanted to check with the group.
Aug 8, 2018 10:57 am
Yup, sounds good to me!
Aug 8, 2018 12:49 pm
I'm good with that! Should reduce the effort on the GM in terms of having to either convert PF1 content or coming up with the situations on your own. Gives us the "cleanest" way to test content as they intend it to function, I think.

I think Doomsday Dawn is the best option at this point.
Aug 9, 2018 2:41 am
Sounds good. I've already dug into it (Doomsday Dawn), and wanted to be sure it was a good fit for everyone. Will go with that.
Aug 10, 2018 2:03 am
Okay I'm officially leaving. Sorry guys, hope you have fun.
Aug 10, 2018 2:22 am
No worries. Have a great time!

I'm swamped with work for the next couple of days. Will get cracking on reading the material and character generation once I get squared away.

I assumed that was the case. I've seen you post to that effect in other games. No worries.

I really don't like maps in PbP, but if you want, I'll go ahead and set something up. Let me know what you'd prefer. Otherwise, I'm just going to jump right into it.
I have no real preference. I quite enjoy either way. :-) So far you have been doing a great job at describing the surroundings, so I don't feel that a map is necessary.

Cool, and thank you!

Attacking With Shield
If you attack with a shield, treat it like an attack with an improvised weapon (see page 178). This deals the heavy shield bash damage or light shield bash damage (as appropriate to the shield’s type) listed on Table 6–5: Martial Melee Weapons on page 180.
If you want to reliably use your shield to attack, you need to buy and attach a shield boss or shield spikes to the shield. These work like other weapons, and can even be etched with runes (see page 370).
What does "reliably use your shield to attack" mean exactly? Does it mean that with a shield boss or spikes your shield strike is no longer considered an improvised weapon and you can now apply your proficiency?

I think that's a good question. My initial insticnt here would be that the PC would need to be able to move freely. However, from the sound of it, you'd need to have your shield prepped to be a weapon. I think the question I take from this is "when wouldn't you be able to reliably use your shield to attack?"

I apologize for my sudden and unannounced absence. I had to deal with a crisis at work. It's all sorted now so I'm back and anxious to catch up on my games. Thanks!
Aug 27, 2018 1:49 am
No worries. My schedule is about to change as of Tuesday. I expect people to be busy from time to time.
Aug 27, 2018 5:32 am
Of course. But I think it's only common courtesy to give notice in a game's OOC thread or even the Absences thread. I apologize for failing to do that until after the fact. :-)

No worries Jabes, but I very much appreciate your politeness and sense of obligation.

So. New update. So are we implementing this? Do we have to redo our skill selection?
Sep 12, 2018 1:51 am
I'll go with what the group feels like. Personally, I'm not super keen on the changing now, but ultimately its up to all of you if you want to re-make your characters. I don't feel like we've played enough to identify how the changes are significant, but that's just my opinion.
Sep 12, 2018 9:43 am
I feel the same way, to be honest. Another game I'm involved with is implementing the changes so it would actually be interesting to see how the two systems compare. But I will go along with whatever this group decides.
Sep 13, 2018 2:28 pm
I'm good not converting this time around. :)
Sep 14, 2018 11:53 am
Me too!
Sep 19, 2018 3:45 am
Sorry,I've been busy. I'll be back posting asap.
Sep 27, 2018 9:47 pm
I'll be offline a bit for the next few days. Probably back to posting as of Monday.
Oct 12, 2018 3:28 am
Due to a family emergency, I won't be available until probably Monday night.
Nov 6, 2018 2:53 am
Would everyone be ok with me closing this down?
Nov 6, 2018 1:27 pm
I'm fine with it. It was an interesting start to researching the playtest. PBP is really a slow medium to deal with the frequency of changes for it. I think the system will work pretty well in PBP once it goes live officially though. :)
Nov 7, 2018 12:33 am
Yeah, I'm still swamped, so I'm okay letting this one go. Thanks for giving it a run for us! I think I do generally like the new system, and look forward to playing it once the kinks are ironed out.
Nov 7, 2018 2:49 am
Cool! You're welcome, and thank you all for participating.
Nov 12, 2018 2:22 pm
So sorry for the low level of participation on my part. I've been pretty swamped for the most part, and when I've get away I've not really had a lot of energy left.

Thank you for running this, Phil!
