Character creation

Woo! So, given that they provide a variety of methods for stat gen, are we going to try out their "Start at 10, apply boosts and such" method?

Addtionally, would it make sense to have a single post/character detailing our creation steps and such, given how shiny and new this is to all of us?

Both excellent questions!

1st, I'd lean towards their default. This is a group thing though and we're all going to learn it together. I'd say the "Start at 10, and then..." looks like what they want to be their default method. Its interesting that rolling stats is an optional method.

I'd like to think a discussion about what we're doing as we're doing it would be helpful. I'll be noting stuff I see as I make my way through the rules.

As an aside, I put the original Pathfinder Character sheet as the default sheet, but most of what we put in won't fit in comfortably so we'll have to re-work the sheet to make it suit our needs. Please let me know what you're putting where when you're building characters.

For stats that makes sense. For the character sheet, after a breeze through the 2.0 sheet, we may be better off with a Custom sheet to start with. There's enough different that we'd be bastardizing a LOT of stuff with limited benefit that I can see off the bat.

I'll add it to the game, and then if people feel better recreating the new sheet they can.

Cool cool!

In terms of character concept, I'm going back and forth between a Gnome Sorcerer with the Barkeep background and a Dwarf Ranger with the Hunter background. Between the two, I think I'm leaning more heavily towards the ranger (he'll be a bowman, for sure).
Aug 3, 2018 1:57 pm
I think for a character, I'm leaning toward an elf druid. Drama, if you go with the ranger, our two characters could have run into each other in the past.

I like that plan pupper!

I'm going to start making my person up.
Aug 3, 2018 2:27 pm
Whatever the group doesn't have to balance it out, I'll fill in. This way I can go through character creation as well. As an aside, my family and I are going on a trip. I'll be taking my computer, but there's likely going to be a couple days where I won't have much internet access. If you don't hear from me after tonight for a couple days, blame the trip!

Ok, so here it goes. I'm going to follow the steps as indicated in the book. Character sheet is here.

Step 1: Determine Concept
I am Struuk Ironhide, a grizzled dwarven hunter from a clan of dwarves that resided in the hills of Golarion.

Step 2: Choose an Ancestry
Dwarf - HP +10, Size Medium, Speed 20 feet. Bonus to Con and Wis (Free choice of Dex). Flaw to Cha. Languages of Common and Dwarf. Traits of Dwarf and Humanoid. Gain Darkvision. Unburdened allows me to ignore 5 feet of speed penalty from armor or the encumbered condition.

Ancestry Feat: Rock Runner - Your innate connection to stone makes you adept at moving across uneven surfaces. When you take the Step action, you can ignore difficult terrain caused by uneven ground made of stone and earth. In addition, when you use the Acrobatics skill to Balance (see page 144) on narrow surfaces or uneven ground made of stone or earth, you aren’t flat-footed, and you treat a success on the Acrobatics check as if it were a critical success.

Step 3: Choose a Background
Hunter - You stalk and take down animals and other creatures of the wild. Skinning animals, harvesting their flesh, and cooking them were also part of your training, all of which can give you useful resources while you adventure.
Choose two ability boosts. One must be to Dexterity or Wisdom (Choosing Dex), and one is a free ability boost (Choosing Con).
You gain the Survey Wildlife skill feat, and you’re trained in the Hunting Lore skill.

{A} - Survey Wildlife - You can spend 10 minutes assessing the area around you to find out what animals are nearby, based on nests, scat, and marks on vegetation. Attempt a Survival check against a DC determined by the GM. Success You identify one or two types of animals that live in the environment, and you find tracks you can follow if you want to seek one out. If you have the master proficiency rank in Survival, you can also identify one type of more intelligent and dangerous beast in the environment.
Critical Success You identify three or four types of animals that live in the environment, and you find tracks you can follow if you want to seek one out. If you have the master proficiency rank in Survival, you can also identify one type of more intelligent and dangerous beast in the environment.

Step 4: Choose a Class
Ranger - Key stat boost in Dex

Step 5: Finalize Ability Scores
5a (Start with 10s): Str 10, Dex 10, Con 10, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 10
5b (adjust by Ancestry): Str 10, Dex 12, Con 12, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 8
5c (adjust by Background): Str 10, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 8
5d (adjust by 4 free boosts): Str 12, Dex 16, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 14, Cha 8
5e (adjust by Class): Str 12, Dex 18, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 14, Cha 8

Step 6: Apply Your Class
HP +13 (10 + con)
Proficiencies:
Perception Expert
Fortitude Expert
Reflex Expert
Will Expert

Skills: Trained in 6 (6 + Int): Acrobatics, Crafting, Medicine, Nature, Stealth, Survival
Weapons: Trained in all Simple and Martial
Armor: Trained in Light and Medium
Signature Skills: Acrobatics, Athletics, Crafting, Nature, Stealth, Survival

Gain Hunt Target Action (Can see or hear the target)
You designate a single creature within 100 feet as your target and focus your attacks against that creature. While hunting that creature, you gain benefits for focusing your attacks. As long as all your attacks in a round are against target you’re hunting, the multiple attack penalty you take on the second attack is –4 (–3 with an agile weapon) instead of –5, and –8 (–6 with an agile weapon) instead of –10 on the third and any further attacks in the round. You also ignore the penalty for making ranged attacks against the target you’re hunting within your second range increment. You also gain a +2 circumstance bonus to Perception checks when you Seek your target and a +2 circumstance bonus to Survival checks when you Track your target.
You can have only one creature designated as the target of your hunt at a time. If you use Hunt Target against a creature when you already have a creature designated, the prior creature loses the designation and the new target gains the designation. In any case, this designation lasts until your next daily preparation (see page 332).

Ranger Feat: Crossbow Ace - When you use Hunt Target or when you use Interact to reload your crossbow, if your next Strike with that crossbow before the end of your next turn is against your hunted target, add half your Wisdom modifier to your damage roll; if you are firing a simple crossbow on a qualifying attack, also increase the damage dice on that attack by one size (see page 91).

Step 7: Determine Skill Modifiers
Add skill ability, + proficiency (Level - 2 for untrained, Level for trained, Level + 1 for Expert, Level + 2 for Master, Level + 3 for Legendary)

Step 8: Buy Equipment
Start with 150 SP
Leather Armor - 15 SP
3x Dagger - 2 SP (6 SP total)
1x Warhammer - 12 SP
1x Crossbow - 30 SP
30x Bolts - 1 SP (3 SP total)
1x Backpack - 1 SP
2x Belt Pouch - 4 CP (8 CP total)
1x Flint and Steel - 5 CP
1x Mug - 1 CP
1x Pup Tent - 8 SP
1x Rope (Silk) - 10 SP
2x Waterskin - 5 CP (1 SP total)
10x Rations (1 Day) - 5 CP (5 SP total)
1x Repair Kit - 30 SP
1x Basic crafter's book - 1 SP

Cash Remaining: 26 SP, 6 CP

Step 9: Fill in the Finishing Details
Age (adulthood around 25, lives to about 350): 70 years old.
Alignment: NG
Deity: Gozreh and Erastil in equal measure.

I'm going with a Gnome Cleric. Almost done character gen, on paper. Transferring into the sheet may take a little while.

Looks good. @Dramasailor! I went over the character, and I'm not sure yet about revisions. Your the first one to finish up, and I'm not fluent enough (yet) with the rules to offer suggestions.

I figure we'll start tackling revisions and improvements and such once we a) get some more submissions in and b) get into our first interactions (combat or otherwise).

There is definitely some stuff that took some getting my head around.

I'm also going to create a rogue, will use whichever character goes best with the rest of the party.
Aug 6, 2018 12:11 am
I'm going to also roll up an Elf Wizard, just to have the additional option available. That and to do more testing of the leveling system because why not!

Aelondis Gemflower, for giggles and grins. This process was less painful this time around to get the details down into this format at least. I haven't made the "proper" character sheet, but getting the rough mechanics done went a little better. Still a lot of jumping around to get stuff square.

Cool! Go ahead and apply your character. We'll figure out where the hiccups are as we proceed. (I;n back online after a hiatus of a couple days. )

My un-named rogue, not yet put into a character sheet

Fun character! I like using the circus as a front for being a criminal.

Finally had time to write up the character. Had him made for a few days now, but it took a bit to transfer from paper to computer.
