Character Creation

Be sure to read and follow the guidelines for our forums.

Ok everyone post your character ideas/info here. I prefer you add them to the character library, but won't force you.

Modern Rulebook

Stats: You can choose from any of the normal methods (point buy, standard array, or 4d6 drop lowest). Remember you will be starting at level 4.

Equipment: Everyone will get their usual starting equipment, plus 500 GP to spend on additional vanilla/modern equipment that isn't magical, potions up to uncommon rarity are allowed. We will be sticking to using normal d&d gold for all equipment, as the various races collectively hate using paper or electronic money, stubbornly sticking to physical coins.

Guns: If you would like to have a firearm and are picking a class that doesn't give you proficiency (basically anything not from the modern handbook), I'm going to use these guidelines: Classes that get access to martial weapons can use martial & simple firearms, and those with simple weapons can use only simple firearms. In addition you may forego one of your starting weapons with an appropriate firearm that isn't the Grenade launcher or LMG. This may vary from class to class however, so if there is any confusion please ask.

As far as damage goes, we will be using variant rules where guns do only 1d of damage.

Backgrounds: Consider how your character first came into contact with Lock, what they were doing before, how new they are to 'the other side', origins of power, etc. Have the usual traits/ideals/flaws somewhere, and if you wish to change aspects of a background (to acquire hacking proficiency for example) that can be arranged. If you need/want to reflavor your class to fit the backstory better go for it. Generally speaking everyone will be new members who have undergone training or trials either within Lock or through other means. Lock gives every 'newborn' a choice when they take notice of you: integrate with the world (use glamour when required, don't start trouble), work directly for them, or disappear. No evil characters please, Lock isn't considered nice, but it is a necessary job which demands sound individuals. Remember: Your character was recruited for a reason.
Aug 17, 2018 7:26 pm
On Gun Damage: I'm really unsure how I feel about the 2d damage of a gun. It reflects the danger of the weapon, but seems like a big difference in output. So I guess I would ask the question: Will we be running into a lot of gunfights? Will the entities we fight be shooting back? OR will it be more like the first Men In Black Movie were using our guns is ill advised given the nature or our work (which is the vibe I got from the descriptions)? If the answer to those questions from the GM is: Yes, Yes, No...then I say roll back the damage. If the answer is No, No, Yes...then I'm fine leaving them alone.

Sorry to the Gun-katta Monks, but if we are trying to stay secret, popping off at the low-level demon isn't the right approach. Save that for the big boss battles.

I am sitting on several odd spell caster ideas for characters...I'm going to roll the dice and see what I come up with before deciding on the final idea though.

I have no preference for firearms damage as long as we are on par with enemy firepower. As for K admonishing J "We do not discharge our weapons in view of the public!" I think that was their weapons relied on alien tech and should be kept secret. So maybe the question is, what is being kept secret and what isn't? Fantasy/Magical creatures/monsters are secret, but what about magic itself? The spellcasters might be in more trouble than the monks!

Speaking of monks...thanks to @Jabes, I checked out the Kensei in Xanathar's and I think it's superior to the Gun Fu monk. Are you playing one, @Jabes? Will you allow two Kensei PC's @somebox?

Thanks for starting this game. It's a great idea.

I'm initially attracted to the hacker warlock. However, I'm more than happy to work with what the team needs. In terms of putting a group together, should we follow similar strategies as classical d&d? In other words, should we have a mix of melee, ranged, caster, etc?

Edit: So that's 16, 14, 15, 10, 12, and 13, right?

@campeador I agree with your stance on gun damage, and your comment/question about magic in this modern world. Go ahead and play the monk. I'm considering a warforged druid or a tiefling sorcerer (in both cases, the subclass presented in the Modern Handbook).

The number of gun-toting enemies you face will be rather small. I do have a scenario where security guards are possessed and armed, but other then that the majority will not rely on them. Combat as a whole will play a decent sized part of the adventure, with some of it possible to mitigate.

The nature of Lock's work demands weaponry in case of danger. Guns are obviously loud and can draw attention (but so are some spells) if scouts can minimize citizen casualties and exposure they will. In some instances such as crowded buildings this won't be possible, but sometimes its shoot or die.

Some more details regarding Glamour: To the Janes and Joes (think I will use that term) it will render the user a normal human, they will retain body type and size, but all fantastical elements (scales, pointed ears, the works) will be obscured. Once a Joe starts coming into contact with magical elements such as using artifacts, witnessing otherworldly creatures, or being taught about the other side directly. To all of you it will be completely ineffective, but you will notice telltale signs when someone is using glamour, such as a strong smell or a glow in their eyes.

As far as party Comp. goes I'm not too uptight over some overlap or if y'all don't want a well rounded crew class-wise.

@Tsavo: You are correct.
Aug 17, 2018 9:15 pm
Sorry. Didn't weight in about guns. I think MushroomMage put it quite well. Initially I thought the higher damage a good thing. It reflects the dangerous nature of the weapon. But then, I thought about it a bit more and I'm not sure you're more likely to survive being shot by a bow than you are by a 9mm. I think the location of the wound plays more into that the weapon type. However, I admittedly am no expert. So, I see the argument that 1D is better for balance purposes.

Tldr: I'm of no help, can see both sides of the argument, and am happy with whatever the group wants or the DM rules.

On a side note: I've never played a race that's really "far out there". I usually stick with elves, humans, and the occasional dwarf. Thinking about hellboy and watchmen, is this a good campaign for me to maybe try a more enigmatic race? I was thinking it made sense for a reclusive hacker warlock type.
Aug 17, 2018 10:01 pm
You raise a good point on the whole "what is realistic" argument, which I don't want to get into at all because D&D isn't exactly realistic anyway. Overall I'm gonna say we use d1 variant rules.

Concerning playing "unusual" races: This is an ideal campaign for those kinds of characters, naturally it would seem easier to be a human, but I really don't want anyone to feel like their options are limited, more fun that way.

A little side note of my own: Lock has dormitories within its LA HQ, but also allows employees to live off-campus assuming they keep all information regarding their work secret.
Aug 17, 2018 10:10 pm
@Jabes: let me know if you go Tiefling. If you do, I'll go half elf, so no worries.
Aug 18, 2018 5:41 am
I think I'll go with the warforged druid. Transformers Beast Wars, yo!

That's pretty damn cool.

I've gone Tiefling warlock (patron from the Modern Handbook). A pretty common choice but I've never done it, so looking forward to it.
Aug 18, 2018 11:50 am
I think the techno warlock is super cool! I played a half-elf tomelock before using the Ghost in the Machine patron from UA - Modern Magic and it was a lot of fun! He had a drone for a familiar Overwatch Lookout (O.W.L.) and when he cast Find Steed Vehicle:

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/24/38/e5/2438e5b421ed42bd8d34b10415cc1cf4.gif

I'm looking forward to seeing your take on it!
Aug 18, 2018 12:16 pm
I had a similar idea for the familiar. I'm going with pact of the chain. I just didn't know how it would be handled (mechanics wise) or if it would be allowed. I get an AI as well, so not sure whether it makes more sense to have both be mechanical or have the familiar more flesh and blood to mix it up.

Edit: I'm actually starting to think that's a lot of crap to keep track of. Might go tome. Can still get find familiar if I ever need/want to use it.

I love character creation but I spend way too much time agonizing over little choices.

I’m thinking a Warforged Technomancer. Concept is that he was discovered after a long period of inactivity and he’s been upgrading his body with modern tech.

Love the concept!
Aug 18, 2018 1:26 pm
For my Transformer's background I'm torn between City Watch (he was purposely built by Lock), Spy (he was built by someone else and later recruited by Lock), or Secret Identity (either way, but he hides his identity as a warforged).

IS there a need to hide being a warforged? In this version of LA in 2003 is a robot (sentient or not) anything out of the ordinary? IF there is a need to hide is there even a need to disguise oneself (with the skill) if Lock itself provides the glamour for secret identities?
Aug 18, 2018 2:17 pm
To the mundane world a fully functional robot would be quite the sight for sure. Assuming you are only considering that aspect yes glamour can fix that.

Including the other side: hiding the fact you are a dangerous transforming robot from others can give you the element of surprise, or if you have a bad reputation takes off some heat.
Aug 18, 2018 3:43 pm
Is it too meta-gamey for the casters to (not at length) discuss spell selection? For example, I love the "Find Vehicle" spell, but I don't think 3 of us necessarily need to have it.

Ok...I have figured out my character. She's a bit of an overlap in that we have a lot of casters, but I hopefully have a niche for her on the team. She is a Kalashtar dual class hexblade wralock/enchanter wizard. She was a teen wannabe witch but found out the hard way that magic is real. Now she seeks to end the specific threat of the Quori, and will use her status as a Lock Agent to research her enemies.

Because she is multiclassed, she isn't the most powerful caster, but she has resources at her disposal that make her interesting, I think.
Aug 18, 2018 6:25 pm
Overlap indeed. Great minds must think alike. Even the same background and weapons ;)

I think we're different enough but if you don't like the degree of overlap, or if the group is worried about diversification, I can fiddle around with something else.
Aug 18, 2018 6:31 pm
No... I'm okay with it. I'm sort of thinking she might be "team mascot" material. I don't think it is a problem just pointing out I see the overlap. She's going to be weird...like Luna Lovegood or Harley Quinn...without being annoying I hope.
Aug 18, 2018 6:40 pm
I’m taking fighter as my first level to reflect the purpose my character was originally created for, but once he woke up in the modern world he started taking wizard levels.
Aug 18, 2018 6:44 pm
Starting to get those character sheets in, digging everybody's concepts. Don't feel rushed if you are still fine tuning them, better to think on a decision then act rashly.

For spell overlap I do encourage variety so that all bases are covered and a wider approach can be considered, sometimes spells are too good to pass (Bless comes to mind). Keep in mind we technically have two hackers as well, gonna have to make sure there are sufficient opportunities in that department.

Aug 18, 2018 7:15 pm
If I'm overlapping with two different characters, I can just switch to something else if it helps the team (and the story) more.
Aug 18, 2018 7:21 pm
I'm still fine-tuning my robot druid I am going with the concept that this thing was built as a spy/infiltrator. So Spy background. I have traded the druid's Herbalism kit proficiency for Hacking Kit proficiency. As for spellcasting, I don't see this guy casting a lot of spells although they will be there, they will mostly be utility and maybe some buffs. In combat he will be wildshaped. Somebox, will you allow Shillelagh to work on something else instead of the classic wooden club or quarterstaff? I'm not trying to gain a mechanical advantage, I just want to be thematically consistent. I don't mind even if it's restricted to a specific metal weapon like a specific baton, or one of his fists or something. What do you guys think is cool, thematically appropriate, but not OP?
Aug 18, 2018 7:35 pm
If this were my game, I would say it has to be made of "pure" metal to work, no alloys or carbon filament mumbo jumbo. And even then, just the stiking portion...or head of the weapon. I never understood the idea that druids disliked metal since it is naturally occuring. Suits of armor tend to be alloys I guess...so that makes some sense, but a hunk of iron that has been melted down and reconfigured into a stick (club or baton) seems fine by me.
Aug 18, 2018 7:49 pm
I think there's definitely room for a modern Druid in a game like this. I'd have no problem at all with shillelagh working on batons or his fist. If a Druid can be a machine, then the traditional ways of looking at Druids don't apply. And I don't see that as being necessarily a bad thing. In fact, in this type of game, I see it as being a very cool thing. I love Jabe's character build and think his suggestion is fully in keeping with both his character and the tone of the game.

Just my 2 cents.
Aug 18, 2018 8:52 pm
Yes you can go for it Jabes, replace the quarterstaff/club with two thematic weapons or reflavor things like the baton while keeping the weapon properties (light, one-handed etc.)
Aug 19, 2018 6:54 pm
Thanks! Stun baton shillelagh acceptable?

A question about AC:

Standard Wildshape text says: "You retain the benefit of any features from your class, race, or other source and can use them if the new form is physically capable of doing so."

Racial feature: Integrated Protection - Composite Plating: "AC=13+DEX+prof."

Subclass feature: Metal Wildshape: "Whenever you use your Wild Shape feature, your shape is made with metal and pieces of the city, more similar to a construct than a beast. While transformed into a beast, your AC increases by your proficiency bonus and the Constitution score of the shape increases by 2. "

So when transformed into a metal beast is my AC computed thus: 13 + beast's DEX + proficiency (from racial feature) + proficiency again (from subclass feature)?
Aug 19, 2018 8:51 pm
Your math looks right for wild shaping, basically just adding chunks of extra armor on top of the Warforged's Integrated Protection. Using the stun baton seems fine, Shillelagh stacks with weapons that have extra effects right? (+1, extra damage, etc.) Would be the same boat.
Aug 19, 2018 8:54 pm
somebox says:
One more thing, can you include a backstory as well as your traits on the character sheet? You might still be working out the details, it will help me integrate them into the world, plus everyone else will get a better idea of your character and how they will react.
Well his story is very uncomplicated: Rodrigo was raised by Lock. He is told he was found in the dumpster behind HQ - whether or not this is true he has no idea but he has no reason to doubt Lock's leadership. As soon as he was old enough he began his training. He is motivated by his absolute faith in the organization and ambition to rise through the ranks.

Trait: I never let emotion complicate work.
Ideal: Power: I hope to one day rise to the top of my agency's hierarchy.
Ideal: Faith: I trust that my superiors will guide my actions, I have faith that if I work hard, things will go well.
Bond: I will do anything to protect the agency where I serve.
Flaw: I’m overly concerned with following established procedures and protocols.

Thank you, @somebox, I have corrected the errors.

I have also changed some of the items in the explorer's pack to modernize them:
* tinderbox = lighter,
* waterskin = water canteen,
* bedroll = sleeping bag
* 10 torches = discard, or can they be 10 light sticks?
Aug 20, 2018 7:41 am
I am still in the process of spell selection and finalizing my back story (don't worry, it's nothing complicated) but other than that I think I'm ready.

EDIT:
So is the existence of Lock itself a secret from the public just like the MIB and the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense?

I assume people in this world aren't walking around armed to the teeth like they would in your usual fantasy setting? So do we need concealed carry for all weapons, or has the glamour got that covered?

My background is done.

I'm good to go.
Aug 20, 2018 4:46 pm
You don't need to discard them. Maybe torches could be a flare or something similar, to retain the whole fire-aspect. Alternatively you could buy a flashlight if that seems more appropriate.

Lock is indeed a secret to the public, all inquiries regarding strange phenomenon to official government employees are met with denial.
The general populace isn't armed, and fantastical creatures use glamour to obscure them from the public (keeping it in line with other disguise/invisibility spells). Obviously this means all of you will still be able to see them and vice versa.
Aug 20, 2018 5:03 pm
Not sure if this works for you but there is a box on page 18 of the PDF that gives and Adventurer's Pack. Similar to the explorer's pack.

Adventuring Pack (10 gp). Includes a backpack, a compass, a flashlight, 5 light sticks, a lighter, a plastic bottle, 10 days of rations and a sleeping bag. This pack also has 50 feet of hempen rope strapped to the side of it.

Do people still use hempen rope though? Like...shouldn't it be nylon or something now a days?

Damn, spell selection is hard! This is why I rarely play casters! Good thing as a druid I can prepare a different set each day.

For backstory, PROWL was built by (insert sinister organization that fits in your world, @somebox) for recon, infiltration, sabotage, and the occasional assassination. Was captured by Lock, reprogrammed, and is now being redeployed.

Okay, I do have some questions left.

1. As an Envoy Warforged, I get an integrated tool as a racial feature, could I pick hacking tools for that?

2. I'm still picking languages, what does everyone else have?

3. Can I use a tablet as a replacement for my spellbook?

I have most of my spells, I just need to pick a combat cantrip.
Aug 21, 2018 3:08 am
@cosmicKeyring -

2) Languages - I have common, Quori(racial) and Draconic (because wizards)

3) Are you using the Arcane Tradition of School of Technomancy for your wizard? Because if so, it gives you an E-book as your spellbook under Technomancy Savant. That is the same thing right? For me, I am sticking with an actual spellbook for flavor reasons. We may be in modern times, but Naji is learning ancient traditions.

1) Sure, I believe Jabes did the same.

2) Infernal, Draconic, and Quori so far. Hey Jabes and campeador could you two update your languages given the chance?

3) As opposed to the E-book thingy you get? Tha'ts fine as long as you pay for it and follow all the normal rules and whatnot.
Aug 21, 2018 4:23 am
I went ahead and put Quori in my last remaining language slot. Can I change my gaming set Prof (from Spy background) to Engineering Kit instead? I might integrate that you instead of the Hacking Kit (kinda fits my PC better)

Yeah, cool image! So looking at the Modern Handbook, Cap is a tiny construct with a slam attack for 1d4 lightning (cool!) but only 5hp (maybe not a combatant then, but could be a great scout)
Quote:
As a bonus action, you can command your AI to left its
physical form and travel to an electronic device within 100
feet from you that you can see...
Wow, that's super cool!
Sep 2, 2018 6:52 pm
Oh man...I thought it was basically a slightly more robust familiar, but that 8 our rebuild time is kind of not cool. But having an extra mobile stun baton attack at your disposal while it functions isn't anything to be upset about.
Sep 2, 2018 7:27 pm
Yeah. I like the idea of it. One of the main reasons I wanted to go with this class (plus I wanted to hack).

I figure if he's in a lot of combat, I'm using him incorrectly. He's more for support.
Sep 2, 2018 7:56 pm
And judging by your first conversation with him that we witness he seems to have quite the personality hehe!
Sep 28, 2018 5:44 am
Hi, new friends!

I keep looking at the Modern Handbook and have too many ideas for characters that I'd like to play. I come to you for suggestions on what would benefit the group.

Do you need a good talker?
Would a front line or ranged attacker better balance combat?
Is the group good at gathering information?
Are there any specific things that anyone would like to see added to the party?

Making the personality will be easy, but I'd like to make sure that I don't bring a character that isn't especially useful mechanically. Thanks in advance for any input!
Sep 28, 2018 12:32 pm
Welcome, Rocketblaze!

One of the players we lost was paying the main hacker (though a couple of guys of the group have some hacking skill) and the other was our wheelman --er, woman. Rodrigo (human gun kensei monk), a man with some ambition, is trying to be the leader, though he wasn't voted into the position. He's been doing most of the talking, though his personality tends to be somewhat abrasive. PROWL (warforged druid) is an infiltrator/saboteur. Jericho (warforged technomancer) has surprisingly been fighting melee.

I say (and I' sure everyone will echo this) play whatever you would enjoy.

Alright, hacking is still handled.

Is having a skilled driver important?
Would you prefer to have a different approach available, like Faceman from the A-Team, or to strengthen the Judge Dredd angle of approach?

I'll enjoy whatever I make, no worries there. I try to see what the group values so I can make a useful character, then craft a personality that I'd like to play around it.
Sep 29, 2018 5:14 am
I wasn't planning on having driving be a major focus, but a face in this campaign would be a good idea, regardless of attitude.
Sep 30, 2018 10:26 pm
Greetings all! Would a changeling Infiltrator be a good choice?

Hello, all! I'll be playing a Kalashtar Lore Bard + some modern flavour who focuses on enchantment and being the party face. The modern setting is new to me but I'm acquainting myself with the rules!
Oct 1, 2018 3:39 am
Both of those are fine with me, not much front line but this isn't a dungeon grind so don't be afraid.

I've got that covered with a Paladin.

Alright cool, I should also point out y'all newcomers will start at Level 5 And have an extra 100GP (total of 400) to be in line with everyone else. Also note guns will be using the 1d variant damage rule.

I'm rolling all four of my hit dice at once since I have no con modifier and just adding my starting 8 hp to it.

Ok, it might be a few weeks before I can insert everyone's new characters, with the current pace plus between Oct. 14-21 I'm going to New york with some friends/family, I doubt I will be able to GM much during that time. Either way backstory is very helpful, regardless of size.

@Rocketblaze How's your character coming along btw?
Oct 4, 2018 9:27 pm
Complete in my character sheet app, general backstory made, just need to transfer him into the site.

Hello everyone.

I'm considering an arcane spellcaster, and trying to decide between a warlock and a wizard.

I've decided to go with a Variant Human Wizard, school of technomancy. Basic concept is of a man with an innate talent for magic (taking the Magic Initiate feat), snatched up by Lock for training and corralling others that roam about unsupervised. His day-to-day work is in the archives as a database administrator and middleware programmer (Sage background + technomancy proficiency with hacking tools).

Final attributes after racial bonuses and 4th level ASI:
STR 9 (-1); DEX 10 (+0); CON 13 (+1); INT 20 (+5); WIS 15 (+2); CHA 10 (+0)

Dec 7, 2018 11:18 pm
im thinking cleric (City) (UA)? at a glance it looks really cool! :D

I've submitted Jericho Spring, a level 5 human technomancer.

I wasn't sure how much gold we would start with. The first post indicated 500, then a follow-up indicated an additional 100 to bring the total to 400 gp. Would I start with 400, or 600?

Took average HP for each level, and picked 2 spells per level. I wasn't sure if I would have had access or resources to acquire more spells.

Excellent, everything looks good. Also wow that's a mishap, 400 total gold should be right (Campeador if this doesn't line up let me know.) Jabes did get a pearl of power but I'm sure more will come.

Didn't mention before but @CaveJohnson funky stats.
Dec 11, 2018 5:01 am
It's been awhile, cannot recall starting wealth. Will look it up.

@CancerMan, FYI, One of the original PCs, played by CosmicKeyring, was also named Jericho.

No problem. I'll adjust my spending accordingly.

Yes, it never fails to have someone with the same name at work. Easy enough to set up a filter to send mistaken emails to the right recipient, but I can't believe how many times admin put the wrong interoffice envelopes in my box.
Dec 11, 2018 4:35 pm
Same here but made worse by having had a coworker with the same first name and same last initial. Years after he left, people still call me his last name sometimes. At least the cheques come to the right person. :)
Dec 11, 2018 8:24 pm
My stats could be worse. Somebox did you want me to post for the (City) Domain so you can gander at it?
Dec 12, 2018 6:08 am
Just include it on your character sheet, but if you want to post here as well go ahead.

Both you and Cancerman's character can join in when you are ready. I am tempted to go the retcon route with Blaze/Potato's character, meaning the original members (and Cole) are going about their current business with no introduction to the MIA agents.
Dec 12, 2018 6:32 am
Full disclosure, I haven't read the IC thread under the assumption that I'd be newly-assigned, since I figured I wouldn't know what the original team was up to. I'll go over things when I get a chance so I'm at least aware of what happened.

I had jokingly referred to work, but that brought up the question of whether or not Lock agents have families. Would Jericho be considered a ghost in society like MiB, or would he have relatives?
Dec 12, 2018 12:55 pm
somebox says:
Concerning playing "unusual" races: This is an ideal campaign for those kinds of characters, naturally it would seem easier to be a human, but I really don't want anyone to feel like their options are limited, more fun that way.

A little side note of my own: Lock has dormitories within its LA HQ, but also allows employees to live off-campus assuming they keep all information regarding their work secret.
@Somebox has been pretty open to us playing whtever we want so I imagine he won't object to you having a family outside of Lock, though if I recall correctly the other PCs backstories none of them have families. Rodrigo was a foundling, and has lived his whole life at HQ:
Quote:
Rodrigo was raised by Lock. He is told he was found in the dumpster behind HQ - whether or not this is true he has no idea but he has no reason to doubt Lock's leadership. As soon as he was old enough he began his training. He is motivated by his absolute faith in the organization and ambition to rise through the ranks.
Dec 12, 2018 4:31 pm
Thanks for that. I'm still leaning towards having an expunged record of any public existence, just for convenience. That way, details of his life pre-Lock can be figured out at leisure.

I can see Jericho having an off-campus apartment. The public knows that he works at R&R Solutions as an IT Specialist, which often means long hours in the office and an irregular schedule, so he's not home often. However, he keeps his apartment clean, picks up his mail, and is on decent terms with his neighbors. Anyone that has been inside the apartment would easily see that Jericho doesn't host many guests with the sparse furniture, but he likes books as he has full shelves of everything ranging from literary classics to the latest mystery bestsellers; there's even a small section of romance novels.

For those that might ask, Jericho was never married and had no children, and at his advanced age he no longer feels the need for constant companionship and has settled into the lifestyle of a single bachelor content to live out the rest of his days in peace and quiet. He anonymously donates a good portion of his salary to various charities and community groups.

At Lock, Jericho is quiet, but amiable. He assists other agents in the archives with finding information or collating data to help investigations. He, along with other staff, work to build a database of the many creatures the agency encounters.

If Jabes doesn't mind, Jericho could be one of those who helped reprogram PROWL. That might build a party connection.
Dec 12, 2018 5:35 pm
ok gimmie a few hours an i'll throw the cleric in here. :)
Dec 12, 2018 6:37 pm
@Cancerman No issue from me, everything sounds a-ok.

@Cavejohnson Sure, no rush.
Dec 12, 2018 6:53 pm
Okay, ready to participate when needed!
Dec 12, 2018 9:35 pm
Now is an ideal opportunity for meeting Rodrigo and Prowl (who is now in NPC mode. I like the story connection with Prowl but I'll double check when Jabes comes back.), or alternatively you can wait for Cole to finish his interrogation.
Dec 12, 2018 11:40 pm
I've caught up through the game. I figure I've been reassigned to the party by the director(s), at least on a temporary basis, to help with their investigation. Is there anything else I need to know (info about the characters, the job, etc) before I dive in?

EDIT: Full disclosure, I updated my list of known spells. Swapped out a couple of the technomagic spells for conventional ones from the PHB.

So im thinking of being the "typical medic that dont get out much" whent from office job to field medic now
Dec 13, 2018 4:45 am
The party busted a pack of goblins who were hiding out in a diner without glamour, in addition to several hobgoblins. The plot thickens as questions about Ulgrik's superior come into play, coupled with the old man rescued from the diner. That's the absolute basic summary. The Commander of the branch doesn't seem too interested, but his niece Isabelle is your group's support. (speaking of, do you guys want a group name? I'm open to suggestions.)

@CaveJohnson Fish outta water. A cleric would be helpful indeed.
Dec 13, 2018 5:38 pm
is almost everyone human?
in contrast how are the other species (tabaxi, orc/half-orc), elf/halfelf), dragonborn, etc.. ) Seen?
I'm leaning towards Half-elf as by i look moderatly human and hide the pointy ears. but ever since i've read the tabaxi, i've enjoyed them more then i probably should have :D

Also languages?
Are there specific xeno-language or "alien" language. or like Auran cover most wind based "aliens" and blah blah blah.?

also are dragon marks allowed?

Cole is Kalashtar, so he looks identical to humans.
Dec 13, 2018 5:58 pm
yea i looked into that :) Then theres the AI Druid rubot
Dec 13, 2018 6:25 pm
So looking at (Halfelf-drow) i don't have sunlight sensitivity. so whats the drawbacks for looking like a black human with pointy ears?
Imma just do human. variant :)

somebox says:
Some more details regarding Glamour: To the Janes and Joes (think I will use that term) it will render the user a normal human, they will retain body type and size, but all fantastical elements (scales, pointed ears, the works) will be obscured. To all of you it will be completely ineffective, but you will notice telltale signs when someone is using glamour, such as a strong smell or a glow in their eyes.
Dec 13, 2018 6:46 pm
Fantastical races use "glamour" which is a type of illusion spell specifically used to make their unusual traits look more human-like, or mask them completely. use of glamour is strictly enforced, and the method of applying are wide.

Languages are the standard d&d fare, less common speech can be covered by a more general language. (mostly for convienence)

Dragonmarks are allowed.
Dec 13, 2018 6:46 pm
OH SHoot! was that at like the beginning of this or was i crazy!! but that variant human... hmm... back to them choices again..
I'm a bad person i didnt even bother to think that link was to a book.
Quote:
In addition you may forego one of your starting weapons with an appropriate firearm that isn't the Grenade launcher or LMG. This may vary from class to class however, so if there is any confusion please ask.
so i could sack my mace for a pistol/shotgun or should it be more so similar to what im sacking to get for it like the metal baton type?

I have 200 gold left over from my initial spending to supplement my starting equipment. May I spend it on new spells to copy into my spellbook, using the rules in the PHB? That is, 50 gp for a 1st-level spell, 100gp for a 2nd-level spell, and so on?
Dec 13, 2018 7:48 pm
@CaveJohnson Gun is fine, unless you specifically want a baton.

@Cancerman Sure, please let me know what you pick.
Dec 13, 2018 7:56 pm
ok, I've most my stuff on the GP Sheet. but i have it all!! on the Gsheets linked on the bottom
Dec 13, 2018 8:23 pm
I'd like to pick Find Familiar, Sleep, and Mind Spike. Total cost to copy into spellbooks: 200gp.

My complete spell list is now:
Cantrips: Chill Touch, Haywire, Light, Magic ID, Message, Shocking Grasp
1st-level: Alarm*, Detect Magic*, Disguise Self, Find Familiar*, Identify*, Magic Missile, Shield, Sleep, Unseen Servant*
2nd-level: Dataread, Hold Person, Knock, Mind Spike, Suggestion
3rd-level: Counterspell, Dispel Magic, Fireball
Dec 13, 2018 9:35 pm
@CaveJohnson Okay, there's still a little bit before the agents head back into the field so you have time to finish copying everything.

@Cancerman All fine with me.
Dec 13, 2018 10:46 pm
No big, i finally got a race, and just gotta plop in a name and go shopping :D
Dec 13, 2018 11:04 pm
Starting equip for a cleric gives chain, would Light-duty vest * 500 gp 14 + Dex modifier (max 3) be a suitable swap? Also i'm given a shield (Starting equip) but don't want it is selling 1/2g? if so i'm sure its not the MMHB shield price
Dec 13, 2018 11:39 pm
for the dart gun, could i argue that i could use it for healing potions?
Dec 14, 2018 6:07 pm
If you can cover the remaining cost. (Yeah I'm having armor work differently then free guns, at the moment gun-toting enemies aren't a big issue.)

For the dart gun do you mean use it as flavor?
Dec 14, 2018 6:21 pm
kinda it said you'd coat the dart with a poison (up to 3 uses per poison) i wasnt sure if i could get away with using something like that for a health potion?
Dec 14, 2018 7:14 pm
I could allow it. Would use the equivalent of a healing potion (any rarity, as long as you can afford it) with one charge per dart, maybe keep the range up to 40 feet unless there's a method/rule for friendly fire I'm not thinking of.
Dec 14, 2018 7:16 pm
 Im just trying to push possibilities. I'm not sure if i'll have enough gold left
Dec 14, 2018 8:11 pm
Finally submitted
Dec 14, 2018 8:12 pm
Unfortunatly if you look on the gsheet list you'd have to search for the good Dr.'s tab
Dec 14, 2018 9:14 pm
Okay, could always be something for the future.
Dec 14, 2018 9:27 pm
The Gsheets has "Everything" the GP Sheet has whats "needed"
Dec 18, 2018 11:30 pm
When ever you want to somebox, i'm ready or if i need to do something?
Dec 19, 2018 1:39 am
This interrogation room is getting a little crowded, but sure whenever you are ready/think its appropriate to do so.
Dec 19, 2018 4:01 am
I wasn't sure if you needed to get to a spot where "its ok" or if i just burst in. or whatever.
Dec 20, 2018 1:13 am

Dec 20, 2018 4:33 am
