We get one free item, any others we have to purchase.

Sif's up on Beyond, only thing to note is that Beyond didn't let me take my fourth Cantrip (Sif has Eldritch Blast, obviously), and she also has a set of Glamerweave clothes, because I felt like getting a funny item with the last of my gold.

Sif Adreal

If you're wondering why she has no weapons it's because it was too much of a bother to input her pact weapon of choice.

I think that may have been part of the logic. For me, it was more the whole shadow monk criminal thought. One of the other character concepts I had been turning around in my head was a noble totem barbarian but the whole premise of someone that is on the list of "we need you to go do an investigation" I couldn't reconcile how I'd want that particular character to play with that concept. So I also considered pretty strongly either a cleric of some flavor or a fighter/soldier type. I found I didn't feel like dealing over much with magic, so both Cleric and Wizard fell off and I was wanting something more engaging than "look, I slash. See me slash" but not so much as to do a maneuver fighter. So I painted myself into more of a dark and broody corner. That and I haven't played properly dark and broody in a while.

Sif is a Shadar-Kai. She's incapable of being anything other than dark and broody XD

I think it like of fits with the tone of the campaign though.

I’m thinking tiefling noble. But was shunned from family due to the stigma. Ended up getting shipped off with regional Druidic Tribe that is friendly to the crownand grew with them. Now coming back to help the crown despite the hard feelings and partially to say fuck you for them shunninbhin to begin with. Look at me now bitches kind of mentality. Though that would not be his outward demeanor. Very dark..,very brooding lol

If he's a tiefling, then his family would be Tieflings too though. They're the result of an ancient pact, not interbreeding.

Despite being a rogue, my character isn't dark and brooding. My avatar is what it is because despite scouring the interwebs for a decent image, the only thing I could find that remotely resembled what I was going for was Jarlaxle (/eyeroll), and so I went with that image because it's less apparent that it's of a dark elf (because my character isn't one).

I'm still looking for something better...

PS: There are a great deal of odd elf avatars out there...

Knowing the internet, I don't think I wanna know what constitutes 'odd' in this case XD

Oh, this'll be fun. I'm making Sif kinda like a court diabolist/consultant, having been there for some time now. Be interesting to see interactions between the prim noble and the shifty adviser, as well as between a warlock and a sorcerer of two of the darker domains.

I could use some help understanding an item...

I' m thinking of buying a Hat of Disguise. In the book it says you can cast disguise self on yourself at will. That's lovely. However, Disguise Self the spell, says that if someone visually tries to discern the veracity of what he/she is seeing (I understand the difference if the person actually touches me during the spell's duration), it is an Investigation check against my spell save DC.

Problem: I don't have a spell save DC. I'm not a caster in any way. So how would this work?

If you don't have a spellcasting ability, it's 8 + your proficiency modifier.

Edit: Specifically, it's 8 + your spellcasting mod (+0) + your proficiency mod.

Ah, ok. Thanks.

I (admittedly hopefully) assumed that since the spell is for Bard, Wizards, or Sorcs, that I could pick either Int or Cha and use that (for the spellcasting mod).

But that makes sense. Thanks. Makes the hat a tiny bit less useful.

Decisions...

I didn’t realize that. I thought it was something in the bloodline (like a dormant trait) that would sometimes pop up.

Based on some quick internet searching I’m def seeing some arguments for a tiefling being able to be born of human parents. However tieflings always have human children.

Honestly, does it matter? I don't wish to speak for HypCo, but if I were the DM, I'd let you come up with any plausible history. Devil babies born of non-tiefling parents? Sure, why not? Tieflings having tiefling babies? Don't see why it can't be so.

If it's something you can get behind and play your character to have fun, I'd allow it. We're not beholden to whatever lore is published in some novel or forum, even if it's considered official.

Yes, CM got it in one; figure I'll iterate though for that 'official DM decision'. Don't feel you have to follow certain lore if you have a concept that clashes with it. If lore is blocking your path to fun, we don't want it. Besides, it doesn't say anywhere that the tiefling trait can't be something that lies dormant, at least nowhere I looked.

Also, reading through I believe I noticed a slight hiccup; so just to make sure everyone is on the same page: you should have 1,000 + 2d10x25 + your free uncommon item + starting equipment. You can "sell" the items you don't want from your starting equipment for their price listed in the phb, perhaps getting you some extra cash for that blanket gathering mold at the bottom of your pack. You may also choose to roll for your starting wealth (I believe this has a lesser average than if you just took your starting equipment; still an option though).

Didn't mean to sound like a dick about the Tiefling thing. I didn't consider you were doing a dormant gene type thing, thought you were going for the idea of having a fiend parent - Which is how Cambions are made. I could get behind it being dormant in a line.

I apologize for insinuating anything. I only meant to steer Sclasclemski back towards the original idea, if that was the desired choice. I certainly didn't read anything untoward in Bleak's statements.

You're good in my book, Bleak, you didn't come off like that to me in the slightest; no bad blood here. Enjoyment is always my goal and I want all my players to not feel because of something they heard/know prior they can't discuss it here. I'm always more than happy to discuss characters that go against the grain or clash with lore.

With all that said, I don't mind, if anything I encourage it. In the grand scheme of things, I'm still a baby to this game and enjoy learning about it; feel free to talk about whatever here (I should add: keep it within reason and somewhat ethical). All in all I don't mind discussion or corrections, as long as it's civial and everyone is having a good time, I'm happy.
