Backgrounds + Connections

So, as with any party, we want to find a central reason people either decide to join together and/or know each other. The "central" part of Cragglerock is Mirthing Reef. I believe this would be the best place, but I would love people to discuss backgrounds and perhaps decide on the place to meet (an Inn is typical, and not bad, but we can try something else if you'd like!)

Val was born to a reasonably influential drow house in the Underdark under a powerful but overbearing Matron mother. The third child of seven, their sibling relationship was a constant fight for attention, the eldest 3 daughters consistently winning out, leaving the young Val neglected and sullen. He developed his own talents in acting, music, and poetry, initially inspired by a venture to the surface, but o matter how talented he became, his family offered nothing in the way of encouragement or praise so he decided to leave and join an acting troupe of underdark denizens, traveling all around. Mirthing Reef acted as a focal-point between various locations, the troupe always returning to perform in a certain tavern in the Market District called The Mystic Talisman. It went like this for three decades. During that time, Val improved his skills immensely as an artist but, as his skills grew, so did his pride. He began to care more about the influence and fame than the craft and this created understandable turbulence within the troupe. Before his narcissism could reach it's peak, however, a massacre carried out by the Forlorn's Watch decimated the tavern as the troupe was performing, killing everyone inside, or so they thought. Val, failing to bleed out due to a flawed attempt at execution, lived by crawling out into the street, trailing blood behind him. His memories of that night returned in pieces, faces twisted in pain, swords swinging, and the armor and symbol of the Forlorn's Watch. Anger and revenge dominated his mind as he awoke in the temple, swearing that the Forlorn's watch would pay for the massacre. He just needed to find out how....

I like it! Just keep in mind straight-out slaughters aren't common from the Forlorn's Watch, as they don't want to be ousted too quickly, so these would be some of the rumors of the brutality of the hands of them that haven't been pinned as quite "true" yet in any type of political sense. It gives a good motivation, and I would say you probably were taken in the Temple of the Brother of Metal, where they would've bandaged you, take care of your wounds and let you rest, before either asking for your labor (mining) or sending you on your way.

Certainly. There would've been no evidence to even suspect the Forlorn's Watch as there were no witnesses (probably by design) except for Val who was conked out for an indeterminate amount of time. The court might have even put the blame on local criminals as an excuse to get them behind bars.

My idea for my yuan-ti pureblood, Vishka will be that she is a spy sent by the Forlorn's watch to infiltrate probably the King's guard which opposes them. As she is a illusionist, she has the ability to sneak in and out, of the government building and stuff.

Her story is that she was sent her by the yuan-ti leaders as a spy, but after time, she grew to find it easier to live here and defected due to the yuan-ti hierarchial thing compared to humans who don't really have such a strict hierarchy. She still does not like humans, but she can tolerate them way better. Forlorn's watch was the place she had been sent to spy on and thus she is already in its military, being one of its best spies(if that's ok. If not just a normal spy)

I'll allow it. However, as more backgrounds of other people's characters are told here, think of ways to make it connect for a central goal for why you'd invest in these people as type of "allies" - even if it's not too apparent, or maybe you're just using them, etc. I want everyone to think about this.

I was thinking of doing a P.I. kind of background for Vinsten. He would be an information acquisition specialist from the Falcon's reach area. He would likely not be too discerning on the morality of jobs he's taking as long as they pay well and do not have excessive amounts of danger. Because I chose guild artisan alchemy, he probably came from a family of alchemists, but found other uses for his specific talents.

I was thinking, if he knew of a spy and found out their identity, he would likely use that knowledge to gain more information through the spy than to directly turn them in for a profit. Vinsten could have a connection to Vishka there. He also has a tendency to spread some wealth around by utilizing and paying the urchins for information if somebody was planning to go that route.
