Sandpoint: The Swallowtail Festival

Oct 23, 2018 6:09 pm
Five years ago…

He wakes up to intense heat! Father Ezakien Tobyn, a human cleric of Desna, awakened in his bed, sweating, and realizes that the chapel is ablaze. Fire has reached his chambers, burning the curtains and draperies in the room.

"Nualia! Nualia, where are you?!? We must get out of here!!!"

He rushes out the door as it, too, engulfs in flame. He looks in her room, only to find it empty. Her bed is still made. She’s not there.

"Nualia! Please, we must get out of here now!"

He rushes to the pews, looking between each one, hoping to find his aasimar daughter hiding, much like she used to as a little girl. He laments how cruel the humans were to her here. They would ask her as a child to touch their warts or their rashes, in hopes of curing them. She was touched by Desna, after all. But they didn’t leave her alone. Some people after mass would sneak up to her and cut pieces of her hair, using it in their makeshift fertility rituals and such. Sometimes people would use their young children to lure Nualia to their homes, in the ruse of having a play date, but really they wanted Nualia’s divine voice to cast out evil spirits that they believed were in their homes.

The rumors were ridiculous, and Father Tobyn tried to rid them of these silly notions, but humans are easily superstitious, making their own notions as they deem fitting. No way to treat a child, he thought, but he never overtly defended against these actions. It happened again and again.

Tobyn couldn’t find his adoptive daughter between the pews. He thought, where could she be?, as he searched for his daughter through the flames. They have started to ride up to the ceiling of the humble chapel now.

Tobyn looked in confessional booths, in sacramental closets, and as he continued his search, the temperatures rose and the fire increased in intensity.

When Nualia was nowhere to be found, he ran for the front door and shoved. The door didn’t open.

BOOM! BOOM!

He tries frantically over and over to open the door, but nothing. It was as if the door was stopped.

He begins chanting as he realizes the futility of searching elsewhere for an access point, with the fire blazing around him:

"Oh, Great Dreamer, master mine,
Grant me thy sweet aid divine.
Carry my soul into sky,
As the swallowtail ascends on high.
Grant me freedom, sweet release,
Find thy humble servant’s somber pleas.
May my soul soar through the trees,
Among the stars and in betweens."

As he repeats the chant again, he hears a distant laughter, the laughter of a fiend. As he looks over, trying to find the source of the laughter, something thuds against the top of his head, and his mind fades to blackness. The flames begin to lick his cloak, but he fades away before feeling the pain of the fire. As he fades, he says weakly, "Thank you, my love Starsong".

Present day… (Rova 1, 4707 AR)

The hustle and bustle in Sandpoint is building this morning as merchants begin lining up around the cathedral square’s perimeter. Carts full of pastries and treats, carts full of games and art. Minstrels line up, finding seats around the perimeter as they play or sing a soft cacophony of tunes.
An array of priests prep the platform built days before, putting visages of Desna around, hanging a floating lantern of the Night Monarch tied to one of the posts, making sure the podium has the items requested by the speakers today, Mayor Deverin, Sheriff Hemlock, Cyrdak Drokkus, and Father Zantus.
It is a beautiful day, the first day of autumn. Slowly but surely, the town’s inhabitants start forming a crowd near the platform and in the square.
Oct 24, 2018 7:26 pm
Gerrek didn't bother hiding his smile as he fingered the ceramic balls on his belt. A few of the kids in town had asked for something during the festival, and a little pyrite mixed with liquid lime and dried gobhood (a mushroom that grew in the nearby swamp) made for quite a reaction. Not quite as impressive as fireworks, but it would make a boom and throw up a display.

But before he could lead a gaggle of ankle-biters to the water and throw out the balls, he needed to wait for the speeches to finish.
Oct 24, 2018 8:19 pm
Passing through the guard post into the Northern end of town, Theogrin was pleased to know that he had made it in time for the festival, as well as the dedication of the new temple. Figuring he had at least a part of the day to while away, and hoping to earn some coin for lodging, he asks the guard, "Could you direct me to the smithy? I'd like to see if there is some work that I can help with. I'm not a terrible blacksmith, but woodworking might be a bit much."
Oct 24, 2018 10:21 pm
Ellisandra was on fresh territory from here on out - it was a long traveling time by land and then on a ship, but she had now arrived in Sandpoint - and here it was, surprisingly at the height of a festival! She had not expected this, to see so many different people gathered and moving about. However, she had to remind herself of the height of a cultural experience would be during a festival. After all, this is when people were most proud of their heritage and land. She brushed down her robes and as she walked through a guard post, she now was at the heart of all this bustle, it seemed - looking upon the cathedral square. She appreciated all the tuns of the minstrels, it reminding her a bit of home. She continued her stroll, being careful to avoid carts, and noticed the crowd near the platform. She went that way, to join with it and see what was happening.
Oct 24, 2018 10:47 pm
The guard says to Theogrin: The smithy isn't gonna open shop today, due to the festivities. Here's a map, and I'll circle where Das Korvuk's shop ('tis called the Red Dog Smithy), if you mean to stay a while an' visit his place. I'm sure he'd appreciate some business.

The guard walks off, continuing his patrol.
Oct 24, 2018 10:48 pm
More of the inhabitants of Sandpoint congregate in the square of the new, beautiful cathedral during this special ceremony.
Oct 24, 2018 11:39 pm
"Thank you for the directions, sir." Reminding himself how important the festival was, it made sense that businesses would close for the day. Deciding to enjoy himself despite the small foible, Theo begins to wander to the ceremony, consulting his map for landmarks around town.
Oct 25, 2018 2:39 pm
It is now about 10 am, and you hear the throng of people starting cheering, as 4 people get to the stage, 3 of whom sit in some chairs upon the stage, and the only woman in the group assuming the position at the podium.

She starts speaking in a voice loud enough for the whole crowd to hear.

Welcome to our festival this beautiful autumn morning! I see we have a lot of new faces, of whom are extremely excited to welcome you to our community. Enjoy the various exhibits and stands that people have about for this momentous occasion. We see you as our friends, and we thank you for coming to celebrate this milestone in our town's story.

We are especially privileged by the various dignitaries from the churches of Abadar, Sarenrae, Shelyn, Gozreh, Erastil, and Desna.

She gestures in a direction near the front of the crowd, in plush seats (for those close enough to see).

Without their support and spiritual strength, especially that of Father Zantus up here, our town would not be in the magnificent position that it is today. LET'S GIVE THEM A NICE ROUND OF APPLAUSE!!!

She begins clapping loudly, and she gestures for them to stand. The various clergymen stand for about 15-20 seconds (including Father Zantus up on the stage), after which they sit down. The Mayor continues.

Your turnout here is truly remarkable, and we thank you for attending. She looks at a specific spot in the crowd and says, Oh, I didn't expect to see Larz Rovanky here, and you hear from that spot in the crowd, No one did!

She begins to laugh, as do many of the locals, but Larz harrumphs in his place.

Anyways, thanks so much for making our festival great! Let's keep it that way.

Without further ado, let's hear from our esteemed sheriff, Belor Hemlock!
She claps and stands to the side of the podium.
Oct 25, 2018 2:47 pm
A tall, no-nonsense man stands from the seats on the stage and walks up to the podium. The mayor stands to the side of the podium during his speech. He is a muscular, dark-skinned man in a neat tabbard over well-kept studded leather armor. His eyes scan the crowd.

After a moment he drops to one knee and pulls a holy symbol from beneath his tunic. Then he addresses the gathering, A moment of silence.

He bows his head and begins speaking, Let us remember. He takes a calming breath and continues, Let us remember the memories of those friends and family members who lost their lives in the tragic blaze that made our new cathedral necessary. Cherish those memories and their memories and may the blessings of the Gods see them happy and well in the Afterlife.

He stands back up and clears his throat, Now, I would like everyone to be aware that additional guardsmen have been added to each patrol detail over the next four nights. Members of the Sandpoint Militia have also agreed to add their support during the festival. As sheriff, I am confident that between the guards and the militia volunteers, we will be able to handle any disturbances that may occur during the festival.

Over the next three days all instances of wrong-doing will be dealt with swiftly and to the fullest extent of the law. No exceptions. As the sheriff of Sandpoint, I, Belor Hemlock, would also like to welcome everyone to enjoy themselves during our Swallowtail Festival.

His eyes gauge the crowd's reaction to his words.

Remember: Keep the peace. Thank you.

With that, the sheriff walks back to his seat and sits down.
Oct 25, 2018 3:06 pm
The mayor makes the announcement from her spot next to the podium: And now, Mr. Cyrdak Drokkus, everyone!

She claps in place, and people in the crowd clap, too.
Oct 25, 2018 3:12 pm
Another man walks towards the podium. This man is quite a contrast to the Sheriff; he is brightly dressed, sports a well-groomed goatee, and seems to be thoroughly enjoying the day. As he reaches the podium he loosens his collar a bit, winks into the crowd and starts to talk:

Well, thank you Sheriff for that uplifting oratory. Now I know this town has been through some hard times, but look at what we've accomplished!

He motions towards the cathedral behind him.

And I'm telling you, they spared no expense with this place. Father Zantus' chamber pot? Solid gold. I kid you not, our generous nobles put a pretty copper into the construction of this edifice. I think the Churches even chipped in a silver or two! I even heard a rumor that all of the Gods got together and scrounged up four gold pieces to help get this thing built!

The priests seated near the stage (especially the priest of Abadar) does not take these comments well, but for different reasons. You can see by the looks on their faces that they are not amused, but the rest of the crowd seems to be in awe.

But don't take it from me, Father Zantus over here is the one with the direct line, he's the one you want to hear from!

But before I let him get things going I'd like to take this opportunity to extend my personal invitation to each and every one of you to the new production of "The Harpy's Curse" starring the world-famous Magnimarian diva, ALLISHANDA!!! She will be playing the lead role of Avisera, the harpy queen!

It's all premiering tomorrow evening at the Sandpoint Theatre and it is going to be FAB-U-LOUS!

And now join me in a bit of applause for his holiness himself, Father Zantus!

He claps and stands to the side of the podium opposite the mayor, and doesn't seem to be walking towards his chair, instead remaining standing by the podium.
Oct 25, 2018 3:39 pm
The crowd cheers as Cyrdak motions Zantus to the podium. The priest looks noticeably abashed at the reception set up for him. He wears the traditional ceremonial robes of a priest of Desna and a shiny silver holy symbol about his neck. He smiles and tries to calm the crowd down, eventually speaking when the applause has subsided:

Ahem, thank you. Thank you Cyrdak. And thank all of you for coming to join us on this most Holy day. Today ushers in the new Fall season. A season I have always thought was named appropriately, as today was the day Desna fell from the heavens during battle with Lamashtu. Though all the world wept for the loss of the goddess, and of dreams, it is said that she survived. She was discovered, on the rocks of a beach, by a blind orphan, forgotten and cast aside by the rest of the world. Though the orphan didn’t know who she was and could do little for the wounded goddess, she still stayed by her side, holding a vigil on the beach, tending to her as best she could and praying to her god, Desna. When other followers had abandoned Desna, the orphan empathized and held hope in her faith. Through the care of this orphan Desna recovered and revealed herself to the blind woman. In return, Desna transformed her into an angel and offered the girl ascension to Desna’s palace in the heavens. It is now there and forever that they shall remain.

Father Zantus motions toward the newly finished cathedral, the sunlight glittering off the stained glass windows. This story reminds us that tragedy is just a setback, not an end. Though our place of worship was destroyed, and our previous priest, Father Tobyn, perished in the flame, we have preserved as Desna would desire, and built anew. Today is our day of new beginnings. Our day of ascension. Friends of Sandpoint, I declare the Swallowtail Festival officially underway!

He raises both of his arms high in the air, and the crowd stands and goes wild! Minstrels and musicians play their instruments, and the festivities ensue.
Oct 25, 2018 4:19 pm
It was a strange yet amusing sight that Gerrek made as he made his way to the beach. He had half a dozen kids with him, one walking alongside him, one on each arm and leg, and one on his back. Laughing at how ridiculous he must look, Gerrek slowly walked down to the beach, taking care to keep the orbs at his belt from breaking.

After a few minutes, Gerrek felt his arms begin to burn and crouched down, "Alright, everyone off. I've got a few things for you, but I can't do that with you all over me."

Giggling, the kids climbed off the massive half-orc. Standing up, Gerrek smirked before taking off at a run, "Last one to the beach is a goblin dog!"

If he wanted to Gerrek could have easily beaten them all to the beach, but he let the children overtake him. Reaching the beach, he grumbled in good nature as he fished out a clay orb with blue paint on it from his pouch. Getting down to one knee, he motioned the children to surround him as he explained what he had.

"This is a special ball. I've got enough for each of you to have two, but I want you all to promise me two things: first that you won't throw these at anyone because it will hurt a lot and second that you use them all today. Do you promise?"

After all of the children promised, Gerrek let a gleeful grin spread across his face as he stood up and started giving instructions, "Now, the first thing you need to do is get the paint wet," here he dipped the orb in the surf, "shake it as hard as you can for a second, and throw it our as far as you can!"

Following his own instructions, Gerrek vigorously shook the orb before throwing it out over the water. He knew what was happening inside the orb, the water was dissolving the paint, providing a gap within for the three substances within to mix, causing a chain reaction as the energy within built up until...

KRATHOOM!!!

The energy shattered the orb with the sound and force of a crack of thunder, as electrical energy rode out between the bits of powdered mushroom to create a dazzling display of light and energy. The cheers and applause of the children prompted Gerrek to start pulling more out, handing them to each child.

Would you guys prefer that I refrain from the details in how the alchemical items work? I ask because that can bog down a table game but I think it can work out well in a pbp format.

The festival has started in earnest. There is a lot to do in the morning. There are various games, there are actors and minstrels about, there is a make-shift stage where actors are making some short performances, there are snacks for sale, and there are an assortment of vendors of various products around.

Kids are running through the procession of people, and adult human (and a spattering of other humanoids) are wandering through the various exhibits.

What do you all do?

Not having a set schedule or plan, Theo buys some snacks, and wanders over towards the games to try his hand at some. The soldier in him has him scanning the crowd, wary of threats. The louder part, the new Paladin flush with power gifted from his Goddess, keeps an eye out for where he can provide help if needed, whatever form it may take.

Agreeing with the descriptions. I think they work well here for sure.

Theogrin finds a bean bag toss game that seems fun enough. A bunch of kids are trying to hit specific targets near and far, and there is one target that is small and blocked by various bars in a daunting pattern.

A little girl next to him gets excited, as she knows the prize is this very large, very squishy and cute unicorn. She says, IT'S SO FLUFFY! I WANT TO DIE!!!

She tugs at his hand. Excuse me, sir. Can you please get that for me? She points to the unicorn, and she cheeses it up as she smiles at the knight of Iomedae.

That'a be 5 copper pieces each. The game's simple. Ya knock over certain targets, you get a number o' points. Some targets're harder to hit, but're more points.

There're a host o' prizes available, but da unicorn's a mighty special prize. Ya have ta'hit tha' li'l target
(he points to the small target that Theogrin noticed earlier) right there.
OOC:
Just so we all are aware, we are currently in Exploration Mode. Go ahead and tell me what you are doing. When things heat up, I'll change it to Encounter Mode, and initiative will be based on the activity that you are doing at that particular time.

Theogrin, the game mechanically is simple. There are 5 different levels of difficulty for reaching the targets. Each has a separate DC. You tell me the skill you are using to hit it, and roll the check. If you succeed the DC, you get the points. If you critically succeed, you get a bonus. 1 is the easiest target, 5 is the unicorn target (the hardest target to knock over). For all you kid's movie lovers, you may recognize this game from a movie that came out a few years ago *lol*.

You also can try alternative and creative methods to succeed, in which case I will tell you which skill to roll, and there is a DC involved with that benefit to take effect.
Oct 26, 2018 12:44 am
The little girl giggles as she takes her ball, aims, and hefts it at a medium target, pelting it. She wins enough points to get a small lollipop. She gleefully accepts the lollipop, but she tugs on the paladin's tunic and says, Oh, please, get me that unicorn! Or get me another ball and I'll get it!
Oct 26, 2018 3:08 am
"Look, I know lunch isn't for another few hours, that's not what I'm asking for. I'm just asking that you save the slime if you have any leftover from the challenge," Gerrek explained to Jargie Quinn, the one-legged owner of the tavern on the docks.

"And just what do you want hagfish slime for?" Jargie asked, a suspicious glint in his eye.

"I want to see if I can use it to make a glue-like substance to use against goblins the next time I go into the Brinestump for reagents. Currently everything I've got either encourages them or attracts more," Gerrek said, grumbling with old frustration towards the end.

Ven Vinder, owner of the general store, came up before Jargie could answer one way or the other, "I'll try the challenge!"

Gerrek quite happily stepped aside for the big, burly man, he may want to experiment with hagfish slime but he had no interest in drinking the stuff!

Theogrin, your careful toss evades the bars and obstacles, and it hits the target. You see the target bend backward, but the ball does not knock the target over, bouncing off the target and landing on the floor.

The little girl says, Hey, what gives? He hit the target!

The game attendant responds, crouching down in front of the little girl, and says with a mocking overtone: Let me explain something to you, missy. You see that itty-bitty target over there? You see how it's not knocked over?

He looks up at the paladin, defiantly, now standing face-to-face with Theogrin, sticking his index finger on the armored chest of this paladin.

You know what that means, professor? It means you don't get the Un-ee-corn!

AAAAHHHH!

Uh oh!

Somebody's got a frowny face.

Booohooo!

Better luck next time!

He then looks at the girl and the paladin, then chuckles and walks back to his stand.

The game operator starts counting the money in front of everyone watching, and everyone (except those who venerate Abadar) are looking on with disgust at this abuse.

Theogrin's shot would have hit the target, but for the bar that the ball hit. The guy chuckles.

The kid winds back, then stops and looks behind her to find a lady in a white cloak, with a white cowel covering her head. It seems no one else notices her but the girl and Theogrin, and Theo can see in the split of the cloak that she is wearing shiny, full-plate armor underneath, and she has a longsword slung to her hip.

The girl hands the ball to her, who hands it to Theo and says with a smirk on her pretty face, Knock that target out of here, kid! The girl looks on expectantly at Theogrin.

Theogrin sees divine light correct the ball as it leaves his hand, giving it additional force. It goes through and knocks the target clean off its stand, which breaks off with it, indicating that this particular game operator glued the target to the stand itself.

The crowd claps and cheers at this act of sheer athletic prowess. The guy running the game starts babbling, flabbergasted, and another person grabs the unicorn and hands it to Theogrin.

You look for the woman in the crowd, but cannot find her.

Looking out over the crowd, Gerrek let himself feel a small amount of petty glee at being a full head taller than most everyone around him. The occasional mini-thunder clap brought a smile to his face, as he enjoyed a small bag of fried sand-rats (think crabs as big as a quarter).

Chuckling at the looks of disgust he was getting with every loud crunch, he couldn't help but compare the "odd" festival snack with some of his meals back in the Brinestump. Breaded leech was a common meal, even if he had to "milk" their last meal and pickle them in cheap ale before cooking them. Two days in drink after milking had them so drunk that they couldn't even try to bite his fingers as he pulled them out and chopped them into small pieces. Drop the bite-sized pieces into a mix of flour and salt, cover them fully, then throw them into the pot of hot boar fat.

I need to go back to the Brinestump soon, I miss those.
OOC:
Ah, finally I can get on! No games, just enjoying a festival snack and reminiscing.

As the festival goes on and the sun begins setting, several priests pull a cart into the middle of the square. It has a blue canvas tarp over it, covering the contents of the cart.

The beautiful oranges, pinks, purples, and other colors of the sunset mark the buildings, the crowd, and the cart, as Father Zantus takes the stage.

He raises his hands, grasping a small stone. As the stone hits the podium, a thunderclap erupts from the contact with the podium.

At that moment, the priestess unties the tarp, and thousands of swallowtail butterflies emerge from the cart, fluttering into the air in a flurry of wings and colors.

Just as Father Zantus clears his throat to speak, a scream is heard from a distance. Then another in the crowd. And another.

Knew selling that to Zantus was a good idea, Gerrek thought to himself as he heard the telltale sound of a thunderstone.

Theogrin and Gerrek both heard a dog yelp, then silence, coming from near the left side of the stage. As they peer through the panicking crowd, Theogrin sees a goblin licking a shoddily-assembled sword clean of the blood, the dog with his head half-way sliced off, and his mouth has a gaping smile as he does so, looking like a kid excited to lick his lollipop.

Gerrek looks around and finds a goblin behind him, with his sword at his feet, as he collects treats from one of the stands, stuffing his pockets full of yummy deliciousness.
Nov 7, 2018 5:43 pm
"Guards! Goblins are in the town!", he yells, drawing his weapon and shield, and advancing on the goblin he can see. Hopefully he can make himself a large enough threat that the civilians aren't harmed. "Behind me! I'll do what I can to keep them from you!"

Nov 7, 2018 8:34 pm
The humans, in discovering these goblins and hearing a lulling, eerily catchy chant that permeates the walls of the buildings in this square, start running in every which direction. The square clears out rather quickly.

You all see the three goblins that have entered your ranks.
OOC:

- Ellisandra

PC Locations:

- Goblin 1 is in cell H15 (He was trying to sneak over and scare a kid right before he gutted the human whelp).
- Goblin 2 is in cell L9 (he is licking dog blood from his dogslicer).

Khotanos says:
"Guards! Goblins are in the town!", he yells, drawing his weapon and shield, and advancing on the goblin he can see. Hopefully he can make himself a large enough threat that the civilians aren't harmed. "Behind me! I'll do what I can to keep them from you!"
OOC:
Draw weapons, ready shield, make a nice big target for the goblins
OOC:
Theogrin moves to cell L10.
Nov 7, 2018 9:11 pm
OOC:
If possible, will attack the adjacent goblin. Will roll just in case. Also, making sure the shield is in the ready position (so I can soak with it if needed).

Rolls

Attack - (1d20+5)

(13) + 5 = 18

Damage - (1d8+4)

(7) + 4 = 11

Nov 7, 2018 9:26 pm
That goblin attempts to dodge, but the blade hits the top corner of his head, and the sword cuts that section of the goblin’s head clean off. The goblin slumps down into a mound of green flesh, red blood, and a little leather armor, dead.

You can see sliced grey matter in the exposed section of the head.
Nov 8, 2018 4:48 pm
His first instinct to cobble together a fiery explosive, Gerrek starts gathering a few reagents he always carried on him before pausing. The tent was too close to the buildings for a blaze. Feeling around his multiple pouches, he felt a few vials and packets in a pocket. Smirking, he had a wonderful idea, and wanted to see how the goblin liked it.
OOC:
Using a Resonance to throw together an "acid flask" and adding in the damage so it's all in one place.

Rolls

Acid Attack - (1d20+2)

(9) + 2 = 11

Damage (persistent acid damage) - (1d4)

(1) = 1

Nov 8, 2018 5:27 pm
The goblin by the stall grabs his attention.
Seeing the goblin having just dropped a kid a sneer creeps across Thackery’s face as he draws gramma’s sword.
Doing so wafts the smell of pork fat to his nose, which turns his sneer into a bit of smile, remembering his family.
He draws his shield they gave him, red hog rampant emblazoned on the face.
And he charges into the goblin by the stall he yells, "I’m here to do good..."
OOC:
Thackery draws his sword and shield and uses Sudden Charge at the goblin in H15.

After I wrote this I realized it might not be my turn. Apologies.

Rolls

Sudden Charge with Gramma’s sword - (1d20+6)

(1) + 6 = 7

Longsword damage - (1d8+4)

(4) + 4 = 8

Nov 8, 2018 6:54 pm
Gerrek, your flask hits the ground next to the goblin, which burns his feet.

Thackery, you close the distance between you and the last goblin, but your sword swings over his head.
OOC:
Gerrek, you used 2 actions (1 for Quick Alchemy, 1 for ranged attack vs goblin 3). You can do 1 more thing. You are in the same spot as before (cell R16).

Thackery, you used Sudden Charge, which allowed you to close the distance and attack with 2 actions. You can do 1 more thing. You moved to cell H14.
Nov 9, 2018 4:00 am
OOC:
Sorry. This is my first PF experience.
If I can attack again, I’m going to try that...?
The sword sailing clear over the goblin’s head.
As Thackery comes in for another strike he whispers to himself, "Bah. Come on Thackery..."

Rolls

Sword strike, numero 2? - (1d20+6)

(16) + 6 = 22

Sword damage - (1d8+3)

(7) + 3 = 10

Nov 9, 2018 8:14 am
Thack’s second sword swing swipes the soilent green goblin succinctly. Blood sprays from the wound until it finally slowly flows. The goblin’s body becomes motionless.
OOC:
No biggie. The pathfinder 2.0 Playtest system allows each player to use 3 equal actions per turn.

First attack on your turn is your normal attack bonus, second attack is your normal bonus -5, and third attack is your attack bonus -10. Some activities (such as Sudden Charge) use two or more actions, but those are more powerful.
Nov 12, 2018 9:19 pm
OOC:
Gerrek has time for one more action. I’ll wait until tomorrow to continue the progression.
Nov 13, 2018 1:10 am
Snarling, Gerrek pulled out one of his last shock balls. Carefully calculating how far the goblin was, wind speeds, flammability of the banners and canvas covers over the booth, all compared to the probability of an errant spark from the ball setting a fire that could spread to the rest of Sandpoint.
OOC:
Pulling out a bottled lightning, not doing anything else for the turn.
Nov 13, 2018 3:44 pm
Ellisandra runs away from the scary goblins, hiding as the carnage ensues.

The rest of the humans run off, out of sight.

The remaining goblin picks up his blade from the floor, rushes Gerrek, and takes a slice with his crude, rusted, dull dogslicer.

He misses his mark.
OOC:
Goblin 3 is in cell S16. Y'all are up. State your 3 actions.

Rolls

Dogslicer attack vs Gerrek (slashing dmg) - (1d20+6, 1d6)

1d20+6 : (3) + 6 = 9

1d6 : (2) = 2

Nov 14, 2018 4:43 pm
Seeing only the one goblin, and that it is being engaged already, Theo advances cautiously, while scanning for additional threats.
OOC:
Raise shield, advance toward hostile, scanning for other bad guys.
Nov 14, 2018 7:12 pm
Seeing the paladin moving leans to the panning that reveals the goblin to Thackery.
Raising his sheild and moving towards the "last" goblin as carefully as can be managed.
"Let's hope this one is it", he says to himself as much as to the advancing paladin.

OOC:
Raise shield, advance toward hostile, checking for other bad guys.
Nov 14, 2018 11:32 pm
After traveling south for several days from the Churlwood forest to Sandpoint, Eldred rounded a bend in the road and could see the settlement not far off. The town seemed to be abuzz with activity, people bustling all over, and flashes of light off near the harbour. As he got closer to the gate, he heard as the boisterous laughter of celebration turned to screams of panic.
*What's going on?!* Eldred thought to himself as he strung his bow and stealthily approached the gate.
OOC:
Stealth check

Rolls

Stealth Check - (1d20+3)

(13) + 3 = 16

Nov 15, 2018 3:19 pm
Eldred is able to sneak around without issue, as the commotion from the goblin raid has whipped the people up in a frenzy of fear. He sneaks towards the cathedral square, seeing a goblin fighting a half-orc, with two other men creeping towards the green ones.
OOC:
It’ll take all 3 actions to get to the square.
Nov 15, 2018 4:26 pm
OOC:
Can I use 2 move actions and a 3rd to fire an arrow?
Nov 15, 2018 5:07 pm
OOC:
No, it took you 3 actions worth of movement to get to the square.
Nov 16, 2018 8:11 am
OOC:
Gerrek, waiting on actions from you. You have 1 goblin in your face.
Nov 17, 2018 2:41 am
Running backwards, Gerrek lobbing his clay ball as he did, hoping to get out of the blast radius in time.
OOC:
So move, attack, move

Rolls

Attack Roll (bottled lightning) (if connects, gob is flat-footed for 1 round) - (1d20+2)

(15) + 2 = 17

Damage (1 splash) - (1d6)

(4) = 4

Nov 26, 2018 10:22 pm
The goblin's body extends fully in mid-air for a moment, and then it slumps onto the ground, lifeless.

There is an eery calm in the immediate vicinity, though you hear human screams in the distance.

You hear Mayor Deverin yell, You four, keep the square clear of threats. We are going through and around the cathedral, to make sure it can be a haven for our villagers. Send anyone innocent into the building!

With that, she, the priests, and the sheriff disappear into the cathedral.

Combat Map Round 3.
OOC:
What do you do? Theogrin is next.

Combat Order:
- Theogrin
- Eldred
- Gerrek
- Thackery

PC Locations:
- Theogrin, you are in cell P13.
- Thackery, you are in cell N18.

Nov 26, 2018 10:36 pm
Taking the orders in stride, Theo will head towards the screaming, but will stay within the courtyard to keep a safe point for people to rally to.
OOC:
Shield ready, moving South-East, between the two carts, to cover the entrances into the courtyard.
Nov 28, 2018 12:37 am
Eldred moves forward to O-9, up on the stage and takes stock of the situation.
Ho there! What's going on? Why are these goblins in the town?
Nov 28, 2018 12:40 am
"Not sure. First thing is to secure the civilians. Once we know everyone is safe, we can look into the source of this. Can anyone see anything from where they are?" Worried about the civilians, Theo want to head out into town, but is torn between keeping a safe area safe.
Nov 29, 2018 10:32 pm
Not exactly the end to the festival that I had in mind, Gerrek thought to himself.

Cracking his neck, Gerrek kept his eyes and ears open for any signs of villagers or more goblins.
Nov 30, 2018 4:30 am
"I’ll go check those two tents over there" Thackery says as he moves cautiously towards the green tent
OOC:
Sheild up and ready, keeping eyes peeled at the two tents and moving toward S18.
Dec 10, 2018 5:39 pm
As you all are attentive and peering around for danger, you hear some shrilly, high-pitched singing that you can now make out.

Goblins chew and goblins bite.
Goblins cut and goblins fight.
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force!

Goblins race and goblins jump.
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be dead!

Chase the baby, catch the pup.
Bonk the head to shut it up.
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,
We be goblins! You be food!

You then see near Theogrin 2 goblins rush up and slash at him (one of them finding a spot of flesh and causing him to bleed a bit [unless you choose to use a shield block reaction], 2 goblins rush up by Thackery and slash at him (one of them get a slash in [unless you choose to use a shield block reaction]), and a single, ugly-looking female goblin come up nearby, drawing her shortbow and shooting at Thackery, singing her war chant as she fires, the arrow flying past his left.

OOC:
Yes I would like to Block with my Shield, although truth be told I don't know what it does to the damage/hit.
"Enough with this terrible sing-song!" Thackery yells as he bashes the goblin who slashed at him with his shield and then gives the creatures two slashes with gramma's blade.

OOC:
Are there still penalties for shooting into a melee? I can't find anything in the rule book about it one way or the other.
OOC:
Eldred Strides south until he is in Q14, then raises his bow to Strike at the goblin in P23. After firing a shot, he uses Command an Animal to call his Badger forward. Using both of his actions, the Badger Strides to O19.
"What's with all these bloody goblins?!" Eldred calls out to no one in particular as he advances south, swiftly nocking an arrow and loosing it at one of the goblins engaged with Theogrin. He then lets out a sharp whistle and clicks his tongue, calling his companion forward into the fray.

OOC:
Alright everyone, I took the actions as they were happening, and tried to make them as advantageous as possible considering the rules.
Thackery:
You block one of the goblin's hits with your shield, and a dent appears where the dogslicer hit. The goblin does pull back his weapon, though, and quickly hits your thigh.
OOC:
Your shield blocks the 3 dmg from the first strike, but he hits you with the second strike for 2 dmg.
As you swing your shield arm out to hit the goblin, he flies 10 feet to your left, impaling his body into a large tent post. Due to the ferocity of your first swing, the two sword slashes following that formidable shield swipe do not find purchase.

Theogrin:
Your shield blocks the brunt of the damage, but your arm hurts from the heavy impact. This goblin also is able to double back and hit you again.
OOC:
1 dmg from the blow of the blocked hit, then 5 dmg from the second hit.
You effectively slaughter both targets, the second one quickly decapitated by your sword, and then you pull your shield close to defend against future attacks.

Eldred:
You run up and take your shot at the goblin you see standing next to Thackery, since you noticed that Theogrin dispatched of the two goblins near him rather quickly.
OOC:
I am giving the goblins a +2 to their AC for partial cover from your ally.
Not getting a good look, your shot veers past the goblins head and Thackery's side. You then whistle, and your badger friend runs towards the goblin engaged with Thackery.
OOC:
Let me know if placement is okay on this one.
Gerrek:
OOC:
Since drawing a crossbow and loading it take interact actions each, and since this wasn't a crossbow that you have on your person (you pulling it from the cart), I will assume that it was not loaded when you grabbed it.

So, I am taking only your first shot, changing your second action to be an interact action to load the crossbow.
Gerrek aims at one of the goblins that Theogrin was engaged with, and would have hit the goblin's head were it not that the paladin dispatched them so quickly.

Goblins:

The goblin war chanter keeps singing her goblin chant, inspiring both herself and the remaining goblin to fight.

She shoots an arrow at the pesky human Thackery, but upon seeing the badger appear she shrieks and yells, KILL THE UGLY DOG!!!

She then fires a shot at the badger.

Both arrows strike their marks.
OOC:
1st Action: Inspire Courage (cantrip)
2nd Action: Shoot Badger
3rd Action: Shoot Badger
The other goblin attacks Thackery, slashing his leg, and upon hearing the command, he takes a step, then buries his dogslicer into the badger.

PCs turn.

I think that the badger is either dead or close to it. Can you confirm, Eldred?

Sorry, those rolls were brutal. Thackery takes 9 dmg (b/c you didn't use a raise shield action on your turn to bump up your AC), and the badger takes 11 dmg.

Howdy all! After crazy holiday hiatus, I am back.

ngetch, Eldred needs to use an Interact action to draw his weapon, so I will incorporate that into his 3 actions.
Theogrin heals himself, raises his shield, and walks towards the goblin he can see.

Thackery swipes twice with his sword and misses both times, then raising his shield.
