OOC:
How many concealed trogs are there?

Two. One on each platform.
Mar 14, 2017 6:31 am
Jarveena lines up a shot at one of the trogs, but hesitates. She can take them both out from this distance in a heartbeat but there's a chance the falling corpses will yank those ropes and sound the alarm. Elspa and the others are still too far away to set up their ambush. Jarveena waves the others on and holds her position.
OOC:
Readying my shot for when the others are in position, or the moment they are spotted (whichever occurs first).

• Action Surge
• Sharpshooter: Take -5 to attack, deal +10 damage.
• Precision Attack: Roll superiority die, add to attack roll.

Rolls

Readied Attack, advantage from being hidden, Superiority die - (1d20+4, 1d20+4, 1d8)

1d20+4 : (14) + 4 = 18

1d20+4 : (11) + 4 = 15

1d8 : (7) = 7

Sharpshooter damage, Sneak attack - (1d8+14, 1d6)

1d8+14 : (6) + 14 = 20

1d6 : (1) = 1

Action Surge?, still advantage? - (1d20+4, 1d20+4)

1d20+4 : (12) + 4 = 16

1d20+4 : (11) + 4 = 15

Sharpshooter damage, Sneak attack? - (1d8+14, 1d6)

1d8+14 : (6) + 14 = 20

1d6 : (1) = 1

As the sun starts to set, the diseased jungle grows ever louder. The chirping insects are loud enough to make you have to raise your voice to speak with the person next to you. Fireflies are taking flight, filling the trees with wandering spectral lights. The last few lances of sunlight piercing the jungle canopy are being swallowed by steadily growing shadows.

OOC:
Is each trog holding a single rope that leads up to a tree?
Mar 14, 2017 12:10 pm
Ygne looks to Frick, and then looks back at the trogs. She keeps crouched low, moving silently from point to point within concealment as she tries to get a closer look on their positions.

Rolls

Stealth (Advantage) - (1d20+10, 1d20+10)

1d20+10 : (11) + 10 = 21

1d20+10 : (4) + 10 = 14

Mar 14, 2017 1:09 pm
Frick considers climbing up to assist Jarveena, but doesn't want to risk alerting the Trogs. He simply moves into a position where he could potentially throw a javelin, or two, at them.

Rolls

Stealth (Advantage) - (1d20+2, 1d20+2)

1d20+2 : (19) + 2 = 21

1d20+2 : (17) + 2 = 19

Elspa looks at the ropes leading to the jangle-trees, trying to make sense of the tangled mess.
OOC:
Using Inspiration to see if Elspa can figure out 1) how to cut one rope that disables the tree alarm, and 2) to even come up with that idea in the first place given her low Intelligence.

Rolls

Investigation, Inspiration - (1d20-1, 1d20-1)

1d20-1 : (5) - 1 = 4

1d20-1 : (2) - 1 = 1

Frick and Ygne silently move into position. Looking above, they see two quick flashes as Jarveena's arrows pass through a shaft of dying light. The watch trogs are impaled against the platform, instantly dead. Their muscles don't even slacken to let go of the alarm's ropes.

Meanwhile, Elspa gets lost in the beautiful sparkly metal that is catching the last rays of sunlight.
OOC:
I didn't roll initiative because you all achieved surprise and Jarveena was in the incarnation of the angel of death with those rolls.

OOC:
You are clear to move into position to drop the bomb. I'm not sure how you want to do that, so let me know. Are you just rolling it into the cave? Going to make a fuss first and draw some more out? let me know :)
Mar 15, 2017 11:04 am
Ryte, not one for tactics, waits for the rest of the group. He draws his dual rapiers in preparation.
Mar 15, 2017 1:02 pm
With a sad sigh, Frick helps the others prepare the barrel for lighting, "You own me a barrel of rum," he mutters.
Mar 15, 2017 1:29 pm
Ygne slowly, carefully, slides her blades from their sheathes, ready for the others to spring the trap.
Mar 15, 2017 4:20 pm
"Do we sound this jangle tree now?" asks Elspa. "Draw them out of the cave?"

As you position yourself closer to the mouth of the cave, you can make out a few details in the gloom. The 10-foot wide cave entrance is natural in appearance and littered with broken rock and bone. The inside appears to be a steep slope that descends into darkness, and you will need to bring some light to bear to reveal more details within. The smell is ripe even a dozen feet away from the entrance.

One of the dead watch trogs slumps over and falls out of its concealment. It suddenly snaps to a halt halfway on to the ground, suspended from its wrist by the clanging tree cord.

Crash!

As the watch trog swings from the cord, it continues to yank on the cord, ringing the alarms repeatedly. In response, howls erupt from the cave, unmistakably trogs. Dozens of trogs.
OOC:
Lighting the fuse will require a successful DC 15 intelligence check (no skill attached). You can retry this as many times as you need, but if you fail three times, you will be rolling initiative to fight off Trogs.
Mar 16, 2017 7:31 am
Elspa smiles. "Someone showed initiative," she says, and readies her shield and axe. "Light that fuse," she directs, to no one in particular.
Mar 16, 2017 12:47 pm
Already in position by the barrel, Frick attempts to light it up. Frick lights it easily, then knocks it over and kicks it into the mouth of the cave, sighing in lament over the loss of rum. Once he's got it rolling, he grabs his glaive and prepares to fight.

Rolls

Int Check x3! - (1d20, 1d20, 1d20)

1d20 : (18) = 18

1d20 : (2) = 2

1d20 : (1) = 1

The barel clatters down the dark maw of the cave. You hear it take a few bounces, followed by the yelping of trogs as they try to get out of the way.

When the barel blows, you feel the ground below your feet lurch. A flash of orange light explodes from the cave, followed by a cloud of dirt, debris, and a stench so strong it nearly knocks you off your feet. The whole jungle goes so quiet that you have to test your ears to make sure they didn't rupture in the deafening blast.

The silence is soon pierced by the wails of troglodytes below. It sounds like the cries of the dying in the aftermath of a particularly brutal battlefield.

The orange light continues to flicker from beneath the earth.
Mar 16, 2017 4:25 pm
"That the sound of your heart breaking, Frick?" jokes Elspa. She lights a torch and starts to descend into the cave, shield held in front.
