Ygne, takes a shot from within the crowd, sending a bolt toward one of the griffons above (#1). Afterward, as she works to reload, she relocates closer toward the man with the sharktooth weaponry. "Hey!" She shouts to him above the din of battle and the roar of the panicked crowd, "I bet you made those swords for killin' pirates like these! Give 'em t' me, and they'll do just that!"

ELSPA and RYGNAR

"Coward?" Rygnar growls as his hands fidgets with his greatsword's grip. His eyes go blood shot, his nose flares as he expels a burst of air from it, he growls to seemingly no one "I'll show them who's the fuckin' coward." he stands and starts down the stairs, exhaling forcefully through his nose.

Frick charges the only grounded griffon, by the Spirit Mother's corpse. He skids to a halt as he moves into range stabbing once with his glaive before slashing across and then reversing his momentum to strike with the haft of the polearm.

Elspa tsks, and follows Rygnar down.
Apr 29, 2017 3:48 am
Leaning out of the shadows, Moss let's an arrow fly on the grounded griffon and then moves toward the spirit mother, dashing if necessary. Passing beside Frick, Moss drops his bow and arrows, cover me if you can! and kneels near the dying spirit mother, let's just hope I can revive her so she can do that again, Moss points towards the cooling lava.
OOC:
If Moss gets attacked for more than 10 damage, he'll use uncanny dodge.

OOC:
Will Rygnar and Elspa be taking any actions this turn? Taking the dodge action with a bonus action to rage might be appropriate to mitigate the fact that you're badly exposed on the stairs. Either way, best of luck! It'll make a good story regardless of how this turns out.
Apr 29, 2017 8:41 am
OOC:
Depends on how far they are from Rygnar.
Apr 29, 2017 3:38 pm
Jarveena screams as her flesh is rent by talon & beak. With an arrow already in hand she tries to stab one as it takes to the air but she fails to connect. She takes a moment to marshal her strength before taking aim and letting the arrow fly.
OOC:
Target is Griffon 1. Unless I got an OA on it and somehow took it down, in which case target is Griffon 3. Unless Frick & Moss already killed it, in which case Griffon 2.

OOC:
The pirates are in their boats at the edge of the beach. There are 50 feet of stairs and another 20 feet of beach between the top of the stairs and them.
Apr 30, 2017 6:15 am
OOC:
Gotcha, full movement leaves them 30 feet away?
Rage overtakes Rygnar, as the words 'Coward' echo through his mind. He pulls out a javelin and tosses it into the crowd of pirates.
OOC:
Whelp.

I don't stack inspiration, but if you are awarded inspiration and you already have it then I don't mind if you choose to "use up" the old one as soon as you roll your next d20.

FRICK, JARVEENA, MOSS, and YGNE

Through the chaos, the party strikes with lethal precision. Frick closes distance with the riderless griffon, his glaive relentless. Over his shoulder, Moss takes advantage of the distraction and finishes the job with a well-placed arrow. Jarveena recovers from the attack and returns the favour, while Ygne backs her up. Together they down another griffon. It's rider lands awkwardly tangled as he is in the saddle, killing him instantly.

The three surviving Griffons riders soar at full speed toward the beach

Moss leans down to check the Spirit Mother. Her shattered mask reveals the face of a young woman, beautiful and pale. At his touch, however, her body begins to crumble into dust.

Screaming from the villagers reaches an even greater fevered pitch, but She Who Has Been Beyond the Reef rallies them with her warcry. As they flee the dueling circle toward the ravine, she screams at you all:

"Without the Spirit Mother, all the dead will return to kill us! We cross the ravine and cut the bridges, do not delay!"

As the Spirit Mother's ashes pass through Moss's fingers, the Masked Ancestors suddenly stop convulsing, as if some great internal struggle had been resolved. They rise in unison. Their masked faces turn to Frick and Moss, the closest living things to the Ancestors.

Their copper blades shine in the firelight as they begin their delightful murder.
OOC:
Frick takes 34 damage.
Moss takes 11 damage.

ELSPA and RYGNAR

The jeering stops as Rygnar and Elspa descends the stair. The laughing turns to fearful whispers:

" ... you're joking, he's not ..."
" ... is this a joke ..."
" ... the fuck? just pull the fucking ...."
" ... oh Gods, is that one of The Seven?"
" ... he was supposed to be dead!"
" ... fuck, we outnumber him, who cares!"
" ... you weren't there at Farshore! We cannot face him!"
" ... shut yer mouths! they all die the same with a knife between their *GAAK!*"

The javelin skewers the last one to speak, and goes right through to kill another.

The pirates erupt into panic, and 12 bowmen raise their weapons to the task. "FUCK! Kill them now! Gods be good, we cannot die here!"

The bolts fly and many find their mark on the Rygnar's exposed skin. Elspa is unscathed, batting a few bolts away with her well-placed shield.
OOC:
Rygnar takes 20 damage
Elspa takes no damage.

Note that I halved damage from Rage on each individual instance of damage.
The remaining pirates rush to engage Rygna, the two trying to wrestle Rygnar off the stairs rather than hit him.
OOC:
one takes an aid action, the other tries to shove Rygnar off the stairs w/ advantage. HypCo: roll a contested athletics check to beat or meet 15. If you fail, take 1d10 fall damage.
Although difficult for Elspa and Rygnar to see, two men spend a moment with the grisly job of decapitating their fallen comrades.

The ship sends another volley of cannon fire into the village. The barrage sails over the cliff and crashes into the guest hut that the party was supposed to be sleeping, smashing it and anything inside into a thousand pieces (including any leftover mead).

Barrage - (2d6)

OOC:
Advantage for Str. checks due to Rage.
Rygnar plants his legs as the pirates try to topple him, growling at their pitiful attempt. He draws his greatsword up, cutting the bolts as he hoists it up, and lets out a animalistic yell as he swings at the two pirates.
OOC:
Turn play out:
(1) attack the two pirates
(2) if (1) didn't kill, finish off the two pirates; else move towards the bowmen and attack them
(3) attack bowmen

I'm not sure if I get the GWM bonus attack or not, it says when I reduce a creature to 0. I added it anyways, just in case.

All the while, Jahenna and The Seventh battle. The Seventh's angry shouts and gestures towards the spirit mother are cut short as Jahenna drives him back with relentless attacks. A ball of fire erupts from her necklace and explodes into the chief's hut beside The Seventh, showering him with debris. She leaps attacks through the smoke and catches the mighty warrior of guard, drawing the match's first blood.

OOC:
Question, would the pirates attacking Rygnar be considered hostile to Elspa? If yes, Rygnar has advantage on his attack rolls.
