"Who's with me?" I look towards the allies closest to me and point straight up.
OOC:
Just to make sure... as a Giant Eagle I can carry someone while flying... right?

Meriele can tell that the gnome is dead now. Even if it hadn't fallen, it would be far beyond saving based on its numerous wounds.
OOC:
Based on Lord of the Rings, I'll say yes, you can carry someone ;)

Meriele takes a moment to drag the gnome aside, taking the small being off of the lift. The drow takes her simple bow in hand and slides an arrow from her quiver as she gets back into the lift. She positions herself, so long as there is no complaint, in front of Melpomene and Hunter.

The group of you manages to make it to the top by quickly. The trench bisects an enormous cavern with a 30-foot high ceiling supported by naturally formed stone columns. There are bridges leading over the trench about 40 feet to the North and South. Continual Flame spells cast on stone lampposts reflect off crystals embedded in the walls and ceiling, illuminating myriad fountains, waterfalls, streams, and pools. Water drips from stalactites onto leather tarps covering clusters of merchant stalls west and east of the trench. Beyond these marketplaces are well·tended gardens of mold and fungi, crystal walkways, and stone bridges. The tranquil beauty of Mantol-Derith is undone by sounds of combat to the northeast, where you hear the thunderous boom of metal against stone and see panicked svirfneblin running from 8-foot-tall duergar.
OOC:
You are on the side of the trench that's nearest to the booming, so you won't have to cross over

Not trusting his control of the lizard, Mai'ngor dismounts and leads the charge on foot.

Mai'ngor starts to urge his mount forward, then turns in his saddle. We should seek whoever commands the defense. Where should we go?

OOC:
I specifically haven't called out for combat yet. You haven't been attacked and have no idea who the "good guys" are at this point

The booming sound is coming from the northeast, but you can't see what's actually causing it. There are market stalls and buildings in the way. There are a number of svirfneblin falling back in that direction, being pushed back by a group of duergar.

OOC:
2 is the trench, you are just on the east side of it
3b is market stalls and small buildings
Some more duergar are coming from the direction of 5a, but seem to be ignoring you
Booming is coming from the direction of 6a

Hunter drily asks the Zhentarim escort, "Is this normal?" She holds her energy in reserve, wondering if they're seeing nothing more than the Underdark method of haggling.

Your escort is the only one who came up with you. His name is Savy, and he shakes his head, "This is normally a peaceful place, with strictly enforced codes of conduct. Something like this hasn't happened in YEARS."

"Well, so long as we know that both duergar and svirfneblin aren't strangers to this place," Hunter states. Inwardly she remembers the deep gnomes from Blingdenstone and their brilliant deadpan choice of words, and wonders if that's what the group is seeing here.

She looks to the duergar coming from the south. Hunter steps into the roadway, tries to muster as much authority as her small frame can manage, plants her staff, and barks, "What's going on here?!"

The duergar skid to a halt and stare incredulously at Hunter, "They been stealin' from us! Goin' to get what's ours is what's goin' on!"
OOC:
There are six duergar in the group that Hunter stopped and they are currently 15 feet from her

"And none of you thought to speak to the Zhentarim about it?!" snaps Hunter. "Tell your large friend there to stand down before the lot of you get hurt. Or worse, kicked out!"
Aug 24, 2017 7:22 pm
"Ain't none o' their damn business!" the duergar roars, "They steal from me people, then me people're gonna deal with it!"

At this time, another group of people arrive at the top of the lift and step out, dramatically increasing how intimidating your group is. The lift moves back down to grab more people from below.

Hunter roars back, "And you're interfering with the Zhentarim's ability to give me what I want, which makes it MY business!" She slams the end of her staff onto the ground for emphasis, and uses Prestidigitation to add a small thunderclap and flash of sparks.

She leans forward, jerks her thumb over to the ensemble of experienced characters next to her, and adds with a growl, "And my business is their business. Stand. Down."

Elfog walks over and stands slightly behind and to the side of Hunter, letting her continue to skillfully run the show.

He says nothing and merely crosses his arms across his puffed out chest.

Mai'ngor levels Sinag's bright blade at the duergar and growls, "These creatures are known to be evil. My first impulse upon seeing them was to cut them down. Tell me why I should continue to stay Sinag's blade."

Meriele makes no attempt to appear imposing alongside the others. She gladly falls toward the back of the group once the others take the stage, bow readied and arrow in hand.

The lead duergar flinches at the authority in Hunter's voice, takes a step back, and spits on the floor, "Bah! Fine, have it yer way!" he shouts as he turns around. The small group turns to leave back the way they came.
