Warriors who reach Level 6 in the Fighter Class develop an exceptional skill with a style of fighting related to a Weapon Focus Group, aka Weapon Specialty Group.
This is gained by a mix of experience and training, so the Specialty Group must reflect the warrior's established style, habits, and preferences that will have been developed over the previous levels achieved in the Fighter Class.
When using a weapon within the Specialty Group, the Fighter delivers +1 Damage on Attacks.
Unless otherwise noted, this Damage Bonus is strictly for Melee use. The exceptions are Bows and Thrown Groups. In these cases, the Damage Bonus applies to Ranged Attacks.
The groups are listed below, with some notable examples in each group. Specific weapons can be assigned to groups in a way that makes sense through discussion between Players and DM.
o Axes: great axe, battle axe, hand axe, pick, mattock
o Heavy Blades: greatsword, katana, khopesh, longsword, falchion
o Light Blades: dagger, knife, gladius, drusus, kama, kukri, machete, scimitar, sabre, shortsword, sickle, stilleto
o Bows (applies to Ranged only): longbow, shortbow
o Hand-Based: brass knuckles, cestus, gauntlet, small shield, sap, fist/unarmed strike
o Flails: flail, heavy flail, morningstar, nunchaku, whip
o Hammers: club, greatclub, mace, light hammer, warhammer, maul
o Poles: pole arms, pike, javelin, harpoon, lance, spear, war spear, trident
o Thrown (applies to Ranged only): atlatl, blowgun, bolas, boomerang, club, dagger, dart, harpoon, javelin, lasso, net, shuriken, sling, spear, throwing axe, trident
