Knowledge is power. I am willing to meet with this Lareth. But scrolls are still to be found and whilst your injury lingers we are safest to remain with this party.
Nov 22, 2015 3:55 pm
Seeing no real choice Matthias shrugs and follows the others.

In his fretful sleep Anrin stands once more at the top of the ravine. His brother is there with his back to him, unaware of his presence. If Anrin were to push him in, no-one would know, and then Rila would surely grow to like him instead...
Nov 25, 2015 2:05 am
Grumble whispers to the other mage (Spugnoir), but having lived on his own for so long, his sense of whispering is inadequate, and everyone nearby can hear him: "Do you have a place where you would heal in Hommlet, or should we accompany these scarred-but-charming ladies to meet Lareth for healing? I must admit that I like the sound of their fight against oppression and exploitation, both of which are the tools of Evil...."
Nov 26, 2015 4:50 pm
Taking Spugnoir's silence as rebuke, Grumble prevaricates. "Ladies, we despise evil as you do, but my companions and I are badly hurt and could not manage to travel for an hour further to get healing, not when Hommlet and healing there is such a short distance away. Would you accompany us to the village and then we could go with you, when all of us can walk again?"
Nov 27, 2015 7:57 pm
"If you have been to Hommlet before you would know the presence of seeing eyes amongst the common people. There are evil spies in the village and we cannot be seen there. If you agree to come with us, we shall heal you so you do not have to go to the trouble.

Aithne?

With a serious expression, Aithne approaches from the yellow-caped group, her hands lightly glowing with the energy of life, like a blue flame.
Nov 29, 2015 3:01 pm
Kaxaon staggers forward. Normally he isn't so trusting ut in his present state he's beyond caring and gladly accepts the stranger Aithne's magic.
Nov 29, 2015 5:53 pm
Aithne waves her hand across your wounds before moving to Anrin. The light forms web-like strands and it knits your wounds.

"Now come to meet our master, Lareth. An hour's journey up the road you came from. Food and rest shall be granted you also."

The four women break ranks and flank the group like an escort, and hesitate to see if the group follows.

Kaxaon grunts his thanks and waits to see if the others follow the women. He is still bleeding but can niw stand straighter and walk unassisted.

As consciousness returns to Anrin, he utters an instinctive but not inaudible prayer of thanks to Ehlonna, before he has time to see or comprehend who his benefactor might be...

How does Aethne react to that, I wonder?

Aithne winces with her eye out of intrigue at the prayer. She lets a well-practised flame escape from the palm of her hand whilst musing to herself.

The group is led back up the road they came, and you come to the crossroads that separates the well-beaten track from the rough dirt road which leads through the dense shrubbery and back to the moathouse.

Now that the curiosity of the group has been aroused, the leader finally speaks more freely to the group:

"My name is Elda, and these three are Nuraya, Edna and Aithne. You will learn more about us in time. We are all gifted in the ways of blade, cunning or the arcane, and from what I ascertain, all of you may at least have some aptitude. Tell me, how do you intend to use what gifts you have in this life? For if your volition is strong enough, any aim or goal may be attained."
Dec 2, 2015 7:28 am
Grumble beams at this. "I? I?? Do not let this humble exterior fool you, nor my unkempt appearance, my redolent aroma, my dirty feet, my vermin-infested clothing, my...

Ah, what was I saying? Excuse me; I seem to have become a little befuddled. Where...? Oh, yes:

I?? I am a weapon of destiny, forged to destroy evil in all its insidious forms (despite my appearance, I think I was saying)!

It all became clear to me one night, as I lay starving in the forest..."

Grumble continues in this vein for some time, his voice, unused to an audience, moving from a bellow to an incomprehensible mutter.
Dec 2, 2015 1:46 pm
Matthias was about to respond, but Grumble begins his tale so he keeps quiet and listens politely.
Dec 3, 2015 2:50 pm
As he comes more to his senses, Anrin recognizes where he has come. To start with he is taken in by listening to Grumble's tale, but he cannot keep his eye off the moat house, and more than once his hand moves to the hilt of his sword, before apparently thinking better of it. When he has the chance, he tries to appraise who this group of cultists might be, and what manner of deity they follow.

Elda turns directly to face Grumble. "Then you will be right at home with our cause. However, I suggest that you clean up and dress respectfully once you have met with Lareth. Cleanliness is a great concern when uniting against evil. Being dirty might just get you BURNED." She smiles gleefully.

Anrin never took care to learn about other religious orders, nor did he have the best mind for memory. However, from the small markings that you can see on their sleeves, it appears that they worship some kind of fire god, as the marking represents a small flame. However, you have no knowledge of such an entity. These people do seem to have some religiousness in their cause, which may be at the root of this secrecy.

Grumble, interrupted in his murmurings, starts when he realizes that he's not alone, talking to himself. "What? Oh! Oh, yes, yes, lead on. I'll be happy to bathe once again. One of life's pleasures, really. Have you ever bathed in a mountain stream? Oh, I know it'd be improper for young women such as yourselves to frolic naked in the water, and it's inappropriate for me to even imagine it. I apologize; I forget that some people have taboos about nudity, though of course it's how the gods created us...where was I? Oh yes, fresh spring water, cold from the ice pack! Good to drink and good to bathe...good to catch fish in! I recall one time I was bathing in..."

Grumble commences a long rambling story about a salmon, his boot, and an unfortunate encounter with a bear. It's becoming clear to everyone that Grumble will continue in this vein unless he is interrupted. Eventually his ramblings will become background noise for the party.

The four women visibly grimace, although it's not clear if the reaction is from the mention of nudity or ice-cold water. Nevertheless, they put up with Grumble's ramblings for the remainder of the journey.

Grumble gains inspiration.

Elmo remains quiet for the journey, and it seems that he is paying attention to the goings-on with the four women. Turuko is suppressing a smile, and Kobort looks as dopey as ever.

You pass the moathouse, being able to briefly spot it only through the cut-up shrubbery. However, the group continues on for another 400ft before reaching narrow opening to a tunnel amidst rocks, thick briars and brambles. The wind seems to feed into the opening, creating a chilling breeze.
Dec 8, 2015 6:31 am
Grumble whispers to Anrin: "Do you have a good feeling about this, or does it bode ill? I trust your righteousness can detect these things...I'm all for battling evil, but hiding out in a tunnel seems odd. It smacks of either elusiveness or a lair."

As is typical for Grumble, he thinks he's being stealthy, but instead of whispering, he delivers this in a stage whisper that everyone can hear. Having lived for so long on his own, the man has no real-world experience with being quiet or of social niceties.

The group is led down the tunnel by a dancing flame produced by Aithne. It goes for 400ft, and a breeze feeds down the tunnel. Eventually you reach a distant torchlight in a small area with two doors: one ahead and one to the right, which Elda opens.

Grumble shivers involuntarily, overcome with the heebie-jeebies after walking 400 feet down a dark tunnel. He gratefully steps into the torchlight and watches as Elda opens the door on the right. Does she lead the way through it?
