Tabula Rasa-Episode 1 [ EDIT ]
This game has been retired! That means it's no longer being run.
Several centuries in the future, mankind has spread across the stars to many of the exoplanets capable of supporting complex life. Few of these planets was an exact copy of earth, so Humanity was forced to do what it always has-it adapted. The colonists on each exoplanet adjusted the genes of their offspring to thrive in whatever conditions their new home forced upon them.
Under the rules of the United Terran Colonies, the primary government that oversees the colonies of Humanity, each planet must pick one stable genetic modification for all of the residents of their planet to follow. Individual genetic manipulation is both taboo and illegal, but not unheard of.
As a result of this spread, and of a fair bit of genetic manipulation before the ban was passed, little of Humanity's original base DNA is left. When an RNA virus spreads across the planets like a plague, ripping apart the DNA of multiple Human subspecies, a search is launched by the UTC to find stable DNA in a living subject that can revitalize the collective genome.
Rumors surface of a Colony ship, 100 years previous, that left Earth with individuals who despised all of the genetic tinkering that mankind had become nearly addicted to. These individuals, some of whom went for religious reasons, others out of fear of what humanity would become, created a massive vessel with a highly experimental, and secret, drive system to a distant corner of the galaxy to create their utopic society.
Among the colonists went most of the Psi-powered humans in existence at that point, who were treated as second class citizens and laborers among the inner colonies. As their genesis occurred as a result of exposure to a drive system no longer in use, and more as an unlocking of human potential than a mutation, they were welcome among the colonists.
No one had heard from the colonists for over 100 years, until a research vessel out in the deep black came across a massive ship matching its description. Upon learning of the possibility of clean DNA, a research vessel was outfitted with extra defenses and a mixed crew of specialty military units, scientists, and Ship veterans. You are part of that crew.
After a century lost in space, be prepared for anything.

Cypher System rules with SciFi genre suggestions, and use the technology flavor freely. Adepts are allowed, as Psionics. All characters will be either military personnel, naval crewman, or scientists aboard the UTCS Diogenes. All PCs should come up with their character's planet of origin and its genetic modification, along with a reason the mod was needed. All PCs will have a connection to every other PC. Cyphers will be determined by the GM, but you will start with however many your character is allowed.
