M&OCT: Skrimslimon EXPLORE! [ EDIT ]
This game has been retired! That means it's no longer being run.
****PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE YOU APPLY...specifically this disclaimer****
Monsters and Other Childish Things is a game that bounces between Slapstick Potty Humor and Horror pretty frequently. I intend for this game to adhere to the rules set forth by the Gamers Plane admin, but it will be a dark game. To look at other media, I would compare my intended game to media such as Shaun of the Dead, Dale & Tucker vs. Evil, Zombieland, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse...but instead of zombies players will encounter monstrous horrors conjured from the nightmares of children, playing as the children whose minds those nightmares used to inhabit. At least...that’s what I’m shooting for.
The Setup...
Things have been going great for a little while...well not great-great...just, you know, good. You’ve recently started 9th grade at Cedarville High School. It is boring as hell, but what school isn’t, right? Well, it’s not boring because high school is a whole new jungle of pitfalls compared to Middle school. It becomes interesting when the older and bigger kids decide it has been too long since the last time they shoved your head in the toilet. It gets frustrating when Mr. Kurbaum accused you of cheating on the pop quiz just because you managed not to fail it...and please explain how you were able to cheat on a quiz you didn’t know was going to happen!? The rich preppy kids make fun of you for not having the newest and best stuff. Things are going fine. The grind of waking up, surviving the bus ride, getting through classes, eating the crappy food in the cafeteria, getting home again, powering through the homework (maybe!), and dealing with your family...that’s all the same. So sure...I guess things could be better.
There’s one new thing that has made life more fun. A new game has taken your town by storm. Skrimslimon EXPLORE! is THE HOTTEST new app. In the game players get partnered with an impossible creature beyond space and time and then go around town discovering hidden caches of virtual treasure and battle other Skrimslimon for control of territory. Except it isn’t just a game. Skrimslimon are real...or at least...yours is.
Your mon, as people call them for short, was just a collection of digital 1s and 0s and pixels in an augmented reality world when you went to sleep last night. This morning it sits on the foot of your bed peering down at you with all of its eyes, fangs, claws, pseudopods...or WHATEVER else it has. You can see, smell and hear it. It can do things. No game has ever been this real. A new world of possibilities is opening up to you now.
What does it mean that your monster is real? Why can’t everyone else see theirs except when they are using the app? Why are there so many white panel vans driving around town now? Why are so many kids going missing all of a sudden?

Character creation will follow the standard rules laid out in M&OCT Pocket Edition. I will provide a link in the forums once you join the game. I don’t have access to any of the other books with optional rules and think this version can do it all so no reason to worry about optional rules and supplements. However there is a supplement out there that you just have to use, I will consider it if you can provide a link to the material in question.
Please note: You will be creating 2 characters for this game. One kid. A freshman in highschool, typically aged 14-16 years of age. The school does not allow freshmen to drive to school. I ask that your kids come from a lower-middle to poor family for story reasons that will become apparent...quickly.
Your other character is a skrimslimon...a monster of nightmares made real. I require a portrait for this character. In fact, I suggest finding a picture that appeals to you before even considering stats. You will submit a PC version, and I will create an NPC version. You will be free to control and speak as your monster character...most of the time. I will however have occasion to take the reigns and dictate words and actions for your monster. They will always be loyal, but maybe not always as obedient as your kid would like. I promise it will be in service to the story when I act as your monsters.
There are a few additional requests, but you will find those in the forums.
