Character generation details, part 6

You've done all this:
Generated characteristics
Picked a race
Chose your occupation
Determined derived statistics
Selected your skills

Now you get to pick out your stuff!

Step Six: Money and Equipment
In this step, you will do three things:
1) Roll for the amount of cash you have
2) Spend that cash on equipment
3) Choose a type of special equipment you've earned/found in your travels as tauther already

Money on Jorune (in all countries with PC races) consists of crystals of varying size. The smallest crystals are bits (about the size of a BB).. 10 bits are equal in value to the next larger size, the Gemule, which is the most common size and the basic currency (tetragonal crystals about 1 cm long). 10 "yules" are equal in value to the larger gemlink (tetragonal crystals about 2 cm long). 10 "links" are equal in value to the gem (monoclinic crystals about 3 cm long). 10 gems are equal in value to the larger gemcluster (an irregular cluster of assorted crystals, usually 8 cm across). 10 "clusters" are equal in value to the gemstar (a roughly spherical globe covered with discrete crystals sticking out, about the size of your fist)..

To put it in an analogy:
1 bit = 1 dime
1 yule = 1 dollar
1 link = 10 dollars
1 gem = 100 dollars
1 cluster = 1,000 dollars
1 star = 10,000 dollars

First: Roll 3d6 for your starting money in gemlinks. Or you can think of it as (3d6), then multiply the result by 10 to get the number of yules you have.

Second: Get your gear.
You get one free melee weapon to start, then you will use your money to purchase any additional equipment from this list.
All prices are in yules.

Third: Pick your special item.
You've been a tauther for quite a while now, running various tasks for Drenn in Ardoth...some have been simple favors, others have been complicated missions that took you far afield. During this time, you've managed to acquire some interesting item or items. It could be one of a few types of things. Choose:
- was it charged crystals? Crystals contain isho of one of the seven moon colors; you snap the crystal to release the isho to perform some effect, a bit like a potion or a single-use magic item in a fantasy game.
- was it an ancient artifact of some kind? It might be Earth-tec, or it might be some sort of record.
- was it a piece of Bio-tec of some kind? Earth colonial technology seeded the planet with various useful plants of two types: large pods called "incupods" and small seeds called "corks." When a cork of a particular type is combined with any incupod, a process of gestation begins, and a programmed vegetable device (like a plant creature) called a "reco" emerges. Each reco performs a set task, like digging, or filtering water, or creating a bridge, or drawing hostile attention, etc. You could have a cork of some type.
- was it an alien artifact? There are, of course, countless alien technologies as well: native Jorune ones of the shantha, or artifacts from any of the other dozen or so sentient races on Jorune.

Come up with which you'd like, and describe it. I will be happy to offer suggestions if you're stumped for ideas.

Having completed this, all that remains is your background.
