All OOC discussion goes here!

So I'm thinking of reviving an old concept (that you'll probably recognise, Dramasailor) in the form of a Shadar-Kai Hexblade. Yet to decide if I wanna keep scythe-wielding flavor or go with something more fitting XD
Nov 14, 2018 10:52 pm
Ooooh, sea reaper fun times.
Nov 14, 2018 11:09 pm
May also make an Arcane Archer, but definitely a Shadar-Kai.
Nov 15, 2018 1:29 am
Thanks for the invite, I'm thinking of also reviving a concept I didn't get to use, my aristocrat turned cleric after a harrowing experience. Obviously more aquatic-themed, will have mechanical details in the appropriate thread.
Nov 15, 2018 2:53 am
So one of the other things I'd like you all to weigh in on is do we want to start already underway, or do you want to start off in Murann the day before you set sail?
Nov 15, 2018 11:01 am
Either way, we are already crew-mates right? So for me either way is fine.

Thanks for inviting me Dramasailor!

I'm good to start anywhere, but I'll vote for starting in the high seas. All good either way.
Nov 15, 2018 9:12 pm
If we're starting at level 5 and fulfilling officer positions, I'd say we start at sea.
Nov 15, 2018 9:22 pm
I can go with either.
Nov 16, 2018 6:05 am
I like starting at sea. Let's do this thing.
Nov 16, 2018 10:01 am
I would much prefer starting at sea as well. :-)
Nov 16, 2018 11:54 am
I would much prefer starting at sea as well. :-)

Are we expecting any sort of advancement here? I think this is a question that should always be asked in PbP: Should I be making investments ("I'll bump my DEX when I hit 8th." "I'll learn that spell next level." and so on) or should I create this character knowing this is it for him ("to heck with stats, I'll take this feat now just for fun!")?

I'm no min-maxer, but a little optimization does make a character more fun to roleplay. :-)

Thanks!
Nov 16, 2018 8:46 pm
Yes, my plan is to have advancement, because getting better at stuff is always fun. I don't want to set too many/any lofty promises, but so long as we are engaging, we will be advancing.
Nov 17, 2018 5:09 pm
Cool! Thanks!

You are right, I forgot to update that part. Adjusting it now!

"No concerns here, Captain. Avoid sinking ships, if possible, got it. And what about their crews?"
The timing is weird because of PbP and because I posted later than everyone else, but I imagine Zale asked this (and got a reply) before land was sighted.
Jan 3, 2019 4:15 pm
I didn't plan for Zale to be a lovesick fool. That stuff just sort came out of nowhere when I made my first post. :-D
Jan 3, 2019 5:01 pm
hahah. I'll be posting a bit later about the ships getting closer and closer.
Jan 16, 2019 6:15 pm
campeador says:
Zale glowers at Roscoe. He actually kind of likes the little creep, and sometimes he really hates himself for it.
If anything Roscoe says or does ever makes any of you uncomfortable, please tell me and I will change it, no questions asked. Same goes for any character of mine in any game that we participate in together.
Jan 16, 2019 7:15 pm
You don't find me getting offended but very kind of you have a, thanks.
Jan 16, 2019 8:05 pm
As long as Roscoe doesn't get rapey we're fine.
Jan 16, 2019 8:10 pm
No, never!

So far so good, Jabes! I know that you know I trust your instincts on where to draw the line. I've been meaning to draft a response but I keep getting stuck on it. My original post where Srisa checked you over was longer but for some reason, I was struggling to organize my thoughts so I left it pretty short. But, I was imagining a friendship between the two characters. Srisa lives life to the fullest and Roscoe seems to be the same, plus we're both DPS burst-damage type characters who I thought would make a holy terror on the battlefield.

And campeador, Zale expressed some unrequited romantic storyline between Zale and Srisa. I thought that was hilarious!

Everyone loves a love triangle!

That is your vessel, sorry, I will update that to make it clearer. :)

Best. Pirates. Evar.

I had a solid 30 second LOL when I fell off the boat! How far a climb is it from the ocean to the deck?
Feb 26, 2019 3:48 pm
Well, for right now, there is no ladder dropped in the ocean! So it is a hard task (DC20) to find a way to climb back up. Call it about 20 feet up.

If you can get someone to drop a rope or net or something, it makes it a DC10.

Len sent a note to Dramasailor
Feb 26, 2019 4:40 pm
I crit-failed the first Acrobatics check, but made he second. So where did I end up? Clinging to the rail on the outside, or something?
Feb 26, 2019 6:10 pm
Correct, you didn't make the leap to the other ship, so you are currently clinging to the Grace's rail trying NOT to fall into the drink. You can take an action to pull yourself up onto the ship.
Feb 26, 2019 6:15 pm
I completely forgot about the Lucky halfling trait! Can we call the 19 the reroll?
Feb 26, 2019 7:07 pm
Absolutely!
Feb 26, 2019 7:10 pm
Can I scoop up Serisa as I fly across?
Feb 26, 2019 7:11 pm
Edited my post! I'm imagining some crazy, dumb luck Jack Sparrow type shit.
Feb 26, 2019 7:12 pm
@Oxbox, You certainly can, but check with len first. I believe he was cooking up a plan for Srisa. :)
Feb 26, 2019 11:21 pm
I apologise in advance for Miri being a total smug b**ch for this whole campaign haha
Feb 27, 2019 6:46 am
No. Its great. I love defined characters. Not everyone that works together gets along, but they have common goals so it works.
Apr 3, 2019 10:53 pm
I just want to say, that living figurehead is freaking awesome! Kudos to @dramasailor!
Apr 5, 2019 11:00 pm
Indeed. Very cool!

Apologies, I mistakenly described getting hit in the ribs when the DM clearly said the blows were aimed at my face. I have edited my post.

Hey folks, my Dad recently had a stroke, and I'm going to have to pull out of this game. Srisa is going to return under the waves back to her kingdom with many stories to share about fighting figureheads alongside great heroes of the surface world. Thanks especially to Dramasailor for running the game!
Jul 1, 2019 8:00 pm
With the loss of Len, we are down to 4 players (Zeph, Roscoe, Zale, and Miri). Does the group want to continue down this path of pirate hunting and such, or would you all rather wrap this up?

I'm good either way. Some personal notes:

The UA ship combat rules kind of sucked (imo) for play by post format (or I sucked at running them). With so few actual actions, it seemed more like a way to have 1 or 2 people doing any real interaction.

I don't have much in terms of further plot/story already planned out, aside from some SUPER basic notes, so if there was a tone/tenor/path you guys would like to see the adventure take, I'm game.

Thoughts?
Jul 1, 2019 8:12 pm
I'd love to continue, and am not looking for any complicated plots. Happy to just buckle them swashes!

I agree 100% about the ship combat rules. As you know, I was also studying those for use in my own seafaring game.
Jul 2, 2019 6:04 am
I am okay with whatever you decide. If the game continues, I would like to keep participating.
Jul 9, 2019 11:34 pm
I third the rules for ship combat. It feels like they half-assed them. It was hard to find anything to do that was going to be effective at all. Gave me ideas for my game if the group ever gets to that point. I don't mind the game continuing I just have no real motivation for Zeph and his personality kinda jumped around. Never had a good fix on who he is.
Jul 29, 2019 2:33 pm
With Campeador and Remus having gone dark and Jabes looking to pare some things down, I'll be closing down this game. It was fun while it lasted, and if we ever want to spin it back up, we'll add some levels and folks will be aboard their own vessel!

You do not have permission to post in this thread.
