Here, we'll discuss our characters before and as we create them. Please be open about your character. The better we know them, the better we can draw them into the game.

I'm thinking of playing an Uktena "Raider", focused on recovering items of note from vampires and from agents of the Wyrm. He's a karaoke cowboy, modeled strongly off of Christian Kane (Lindsay from Angel and Jake Stone from The Librarians).
The concept works good for most Auspices, but I think Galliard and Theurge seem most appropriate, with Ragabash my third choice before Ahroun or Philodox.

Well, I have a few ideas, but it really depends on what type of game you want to run Shark_bone. Are we playing in a dark brooding atmospheric game that allows our characters to bring in personal development or is it an adventurous romp into fighting pollution monsters, ultra-violent captain planet style?
I'm excited for both, but I want to make sure I'm not making the liability character because I put points into other things that won't come up.
The brooding character would be a Wendigo Philodox who was never really accepted by his people but trying to find his place in the world. Was largely a skeptic spiritually through most of his pre-change life. Still learning the ropes of werewolf warrior life he has to contend with an abusive history, moving his family into a new life in Seattle and find out why the elders did accept him into a tribe the somewhat despises his outside views.
The adventuring character would be a BoneGnawer Ragabash. Playing devils advocate and challenging most concepts of authority (except for party dynamics when it needed). He's kind of a wisecracking, information gathering, smart ass.

That's not a bad question to ask PagrZero (thinking back on Pink Mohawk/Black Trenchcoat/Mirror Shades for Shadowrun). Will definitely have an impact on points spent, and character design.
As anyone who has gamed with me before can state, I like the frontline/tank characters. Though I'm comfortable with most of roles (I've never really gotten into the Theurge auspice) if anyone wants to take a swing at Ahroun.

Also, since the sheet for World of Darkness on the site seems to be mortals oriented (or maybe nWoD?), is there a preference for sheets for us to use? Or just so long as it makes sense kind of thing?

There is a Werewolf: The Apocolypse 20th anniversary edition character sheet hosted on a website called "Mr. gone". It's also fillable.
here to the website
We also need to maybe wait for some other players too before we get into too many character details. Someone will need to roll the pack Alpha. Actually between all of us now was there anyone wanting to do it? I can but I like being more of a support role.

I've used some of his stuff in the past; always quality stuff. But yeah, waiting for some other people to talk about roles and such makes sense.

The game I'm envisioning will likely be more of an action romp. Not that there won't be room for brooding and character development; I encourage that. But, with the city having been unprotected by the Garou for so many years, there's a lot of evil to root out.
As for character sheets, you can use a PDF and host it on Google Docs or Dropbox or whatever, but put a link to it in a Custom character sheet here so we can see it. Or, you can just put it all in a Custom sheet here. The nWoD sheet here won't serve us very well for this game.

NP Shark_bone, means I can invest a little less in backgrounds and a little more in brawl, melee or Kalindo(joking).
Also, Hi Wardomo, looks like everyone that was posting on the forum who was interested is here. Did we have a 5th? I heard you mention it before so I assume you were PM'ed or I just missed it.

Hello! I'm brushing up on my Werewolf breeds... It's been a hot minute. I usually tend toward the brainy or face character. I wouldn't mind just being a full on alpha testosterone fest, but if that's your jam Khotanos I'm happy to pick something that just rounds out the group.
Are we aiming for a character from each auspice?

It's mostly what I've gotten the most experience with. If someone wants to challenge for it ( :) ), I'm cool with it. If we hit 5 garou, I think it would be a cool balance to hit all the auspices. Not really needed, and there are lots of cannon examples of weirdly grouped packs, so if everyone picks a favorite, and based on the background of the setting, I think we should be pretty ok.
Dec 5, 2018 5:00 pm
Oh, that's a good question. That would also loop into a "do we all know each other before hand?", and if so, how well and how long? Are we a new pack, or do we have some fights under our belts.
I kind of like the idea that we're kind of new, but we've done some work as a pack before. Not cubs, but we aren't veterans by any stretch.

The pack totem is a great question, indeed. I think we could either group choose one, or leave that to the pack leader or the theurge to choose (with perhaps some discussion to follow).
Dec 5, 2018 9:39 pm
So an outline on what we're kind of all thinking of for the pack.
Qralloq - Tribe: Uktena, Auspice: Galliard/Theurge Concept: Artifact Hunter
Khotanos - No tribe yet, Auspice: Ahroun, Concept: Full-time Warrior
Wardomo - No tribe yet, Auspice: ?, Concept: still working.
PagrZero - Tribe: Bone Gnawer, Auspice: Ragabash, Concept: Urban survivalist/Theif
So were will largely be on an extended scouting mission and needing to be independent most of the time. I think all different auspices would be great placed to start.

Might default to Get of Fenris, with less overt "I'm better than you for reasons" vibes. One of the main ways that I tend to play a Get is that strength comes in many forms. Strength of arms is important in the war, but if you're outsmarted by a Ragabash, or lose renown from a skald's tale, you can be laid low the same as by a klaive. Don't forget about the little guy that can command spirits.
Kind of guy that recognizes where his strengths are, and knows that it can vary. Tends to make things less weird and confrontational. There is still some pride/ego tied to lineage, but without the extra eye-raising usually associated with the tribe. (Kind of why I avoid the lawful stupid tropes when I play paladins)

In all honesty, I like having a Get of Fenris Ahroun around. Haven't had a pack without one yet. :P

Was my first Werewolf character years ago. Wife got me into oWoD gaming, and I had no idea what I was doing when we started Werewolf. Was recommended Get Ahroun, and reading up on everything, it seemed like a fun character concept.

The Get can create some interesting party drama with their outlook. I like having a Get around. They go well with Shadow Lords... :)
Dec 6, 2018 7:04 am
For sure. But thing for me is to make sure everyone is cool with it. Not going to be that guy with the tribal outlooks, but it will be something that is there. Maybe more as a pushing people to strive to be better than they are.
Dec 6, 2018 11:25 am
Alright, all things considered, I'm leaning towards either a Child of Gaia or Stargazer Philodox
Dec 6, 2018 4:31 pm
Sounds good. I'll be toning down more extravagant aspects of the rampant racism, but some of the meritocracy based views will be there. Wanting to avoid the "that guy" cloak of actions. But since everyone seems cool with the dynamic, I'll go ahead and get something rolling. Should we do a background? And if so, how much should we do for that?
Dec 7, 2018 4:29 am
Definitely write up a background for your character. That's part of the fun of games. I wouldn't put too much into it. These are fresh cliath who haven't done much, or anything, of note. Maybe what your first change was like and what it was like in the sept before being placed in this pack and sent to Seattle?
Dec 7, 2018 4:31 am
If you have a special fetish, it'd be nice to include in your background where/how you got it.
Dec 7, 2018 8:36 am
Did you want us to do our own background in a paragraph or so, or did you want to do each of our preludes through private message? That way we can get your input.

I guess for now we'll go without a Pack totem. Maybe once in the game, we can seek one out?
Dec 7, 2018 10:31 pm
Alright, so officially going with Lupus Stargazer Philodox. He was in the Tibetan Black Wolf exhibit at the Seattle Zoo. He turned and was arrested for trespassing. He was bailed out by the Werewolf who would become his teacher and mentor.
In WW20, is the metaplot still that the Stargazers have mostly retreated East?

Here's my character. Still needs to pour my background down. Stony Hardaway
[ +- ] backstory
Raised since a cub by a Freeman on the Land militia commune as a yard dog, suffering minor abuse at their hands but fed well, he lived that way until his first change. Raging, he destroyed an outbuilding and was shot by the militiamen. He fled into the wilderness, but not knowing how to hunt, he made his way to civilization.
He lodged up with a teen shelter run by a church in Coeur D'Alene, and they taught him much of the ways of being human. They called him Tony and he was largely left in peace as a troubled teeth with deep trust issues. He was good a puzzles and games, and loved singing in their choir. The police leaned on him heavily, questioning him whenever an unsolved crime was committed, especially given that he rarely had an alibi.
He spent many nights in the forest, preferring his natural form, learning the ways of the wild, and finding a small pack of half wolves and wild dogs. He found it easier to be amoung humans in Glabro form, which gave him added size and strength, and more respect. He vowed to never adopt homid form unless it served as a disguise; his glabro form would be his human identity.
It was during this time that he was approached by a kinfolk shaman, who recognized something within him. Taken to tribal lands, the Coeur D'Alene reservation, he became tutored by the Schitsu'umsh, taught that he was a warrior of the spirits, and was sent by Gaia to recover that which was stolen. It was there that he was found by the Uktena who welcomed him as one of their own. His affinity for deeper mysteries lead him into studying with the Theurges. As a final lesson before released from their tutelage, he was taught the Rite of Dedication, and given a medicine bag that he could dedicate (Fetish 1, Magpie's Swag, page 221).
Eventually, he was jumped into the Raiders camp of the Uktena. They called him Stony due to his Fair Glabro adopted form. Sent to Seattle to join a pack, he made his way there through the forests. His only possessions the fetish and the clothes dedicated to his body.
He met runaway in the woods near Seattle, a young teen waif named Sophie. He senses something mystical in her, and immediately felt the need to protect her. He has grown very fond of the girl, and set her up in a homeless shelter in Seattle. Like him, a life of abuse has taught her that life on the streets is preferrable to any guilded cage. Her presence in the city both disturbs and rewards him, and he often spends time keeping an eye on her when he should be searching out pockets of the wyrm.
In his preferred Glabro form, Stony towers at 6'10" and 375 pounds. He has long hair he keeps in braids, native style, and wears rough black jeans, a homespun shirt over a collared shirt, and construction boots. His nature raises the hackles or suspicion of anyone near him.

Yeah, do your own background in a paragraph or two. PbP is slow enough that I'd rather jump right to the game instead of eating time with preludes.
As far as pack totem, we can seek one out after the game starts. The group will have to figure out how they work as a pack and then can go find someone. I think that's part of the fun.

[ +- ] Jakes Background
*Standing near a barrel fire warming himself throwing jokes around with the many other, you walk towards Jake. A man built like a dumpster, who doesn't seem to fit with the others who are in a state of starving thin.
Oh so it's you, well I guess you wanted to hear what I have to say about my past. Truth be told I usually look to the present more and leave the past behind. But I guess in order for this to work you need to know where I came from.
I was raised by piece of shit parents, I left home when I was 11. Living on the streets in Detroit was hell but it was better than being beat my old man every damn day.
Had lots of trouble connecting with people in the same situation. I'd get some help now and again but everyone always seem to keep their distance. No group or gang for that matter seem to fully trust me enough no matter what I did .. or offered.
I had to learn quickly what I needed to survive, those first 2 years were bad. Starving, stealing and often times cold, I was one day from dying in a gutter I sware. But there was one old man who decided to take me in for whatever reason. The system failed him too, he was a vet named Shepard who lost his arm in a war, think it was desert storm or some shit. Anyways he took me under his wing. Taught me things like how to stay warm, get fresh water and how to defend myself if anyone came looking for trouble. He did all this with asking nothing in return. It was really quite terrifying actually.
Then one day some assholes with a gun came looking for fun in hobo alley. I mean I've seen some people do some mean shit but this, they started firing at random laughing, shot an old woman in the leg and just laughed at here bleeding all over the place. Then something came over me before I knew it those assholes were nothing but paste all over the walls. Exhausted after, I collapsed.
I woke up in a room somewhere dark and off the street with Shep sitting in a chair near the bed. He told me what had happened, told me he had a similar "condition" and that he needed to introduce me to a hidden world that no other jackasses knew about.
Istá Ò:niare(Mother snake) my partner in crime
*looking on Jakes belt you see a huge army knife in a sheath.
Oh that's Izzy don't worry she only bites wrym tainted jackoffs. We've been together for a while it's not a very interesting story I'm sure you heard hundreds like it. It was during my Rite of passage I had been given the low down on Garuo culture and needed to prove myself to a bunch of idiots.
So me, and with a small pack of cubs lead by some blowhard were told to investigate a bunch of .. unusual animal killings near parks and wooded areas. What we found were crushed half digested animals of various sizes, mice, cats, a dear.
*You see Jake take a moment looking into the fire as the rest of the group around you spread out.
Then we saw the cop. Blind, acid burns all over his body but alive who knows for how long he had suffered lying there in a pool of whatever this thing used for bile. The group just wanted to move on, I mean I'm no friend to cops but nothing should have to suffer as this guy did. After bringing him peace I had the bright idea of trying to talk our cub alpha into calling for help. This was obviously above our pay grad. But he thought that his glory would be affected and if I brought it up again I wouldn't leave these woods.
To better track what we were dealing with we step side ways to the Umbra. Yeah, that was a mistake whatever the hell this thing was it wasn't only consuming animals. We seen dead spirits littered the entire plane in pretty much the same state like everything else.
We then met a weeping snake spirit, she said her name was Istá Ò:niare or mother serpent and that the great snake father of this area had gone mad with hunger. Due to a massive amount of poison this area was dosed in it dramatically reduced the rodent poplulation causes some of the smaller predators to stave.
This great snake spirit was enraged and angry, the wrym had tainted her mate with an aspect of "Eater-of-Souls". Making the spirit abnormally large, aggressive and with an insatiable hunger. The damn thing didn't even digest half of the shit it swallowed. It consumed the smaller spirits at first then their children, then moved over to the real world.
We eventually tracked the damn thing into a quarry of some type. This thing was massive with fangs the size of a Buick and venom twice as lethal as cyanide. So I let alpha boy get his glory and after about 5 seconds after he got pasted I howled for help.
The elders came fast but not before we ended up with a large number of causalities. We started with 8 cubs we were now 3. We helped the elders as best we could, after what feels like hours we finally defeated the spirit but at the cost of the cubs and poor Shep my mentor, the only person who seems to give a shit about me.
*You see Jake wipe something with the side of his sleave.
Grateful for bring peace to her mate, Izzy understood the great loss we all suffered through. And to honor the great Garou who gave his life she bounded herself to me in hope that we can prevent such an evil from happening again.

Before I forget, are we able to use things that aren't out of the W20 book? I was going to grab a fetish from the Hammer & Klaive book, but wanted to double check (I think it was Flame Claws?). Also, my sheet seems to have wiped itself, so I'll get that taken care of again.

Rough draft. Let me know what you all think about it (I also second the gamer first, writer maybe a distant third).

Sitting at the fire, Donnar is tinkering with a piece of metal. Standing up, it's easy to mistake the man for a football player. "I guess it's my turn to share. While I don't have the skald's talents, it's a simple enough story. I grew up as a ward of the state, and didn't know my parents at all. I was moved all over California, and was shuffled from foster to foster. I was a problem child, and didn't really fit in anywhere. Fighting all the time. Guess I figured that one out eventually." His eyes lose focus for a moment while a memory plays out in his mind.
"There was one family that took me in for a time, that really tried though. They wanted it to work, and I was eager to try. The only time I found peace was camping with Dave. Nice guy; taught me how to track and hunt, and to appreciate the wild places in the world. We were camping out in Yellowstone at the time. I was about 16 or so. Me, Dave, and Marcy (his wife). We were having a good time, and they seemed in a good mood. They wanted to take me somewhere nice, to spring the news. They were going to finalize the papers, and adopt me. We were celebrating in town when they showed up. I just remember a bunch of truly ugly guys in ratty clothes. Fomori. They attacked everyone in the little diner." After a heavy sigh, and a moment's hesitation, he continues.
"I woke up later, tired, covered in blood and worse. An Uktena found me, explained the basics to me, and helped me find my tribe. The only thing I knew for sure about what happened was that I wasn't what killed the only family to care for me as a kid. We hunted the remaining fomori down, and tore them to shreds. Finally releasing the Rage on something that deserved it. Fighting for something that needed fighting for. Turns out I was literally born for this war, and impressed something enough to gift me something." Shifting up to Crinos, he shows his claws, and the runes carefully carved into the copper bands around both wrists. Focusing for a moment, the claws erupt into flames. "A spirit of fire. I am not able to speak to the spirits, but this one liked what it saw in me apparently. The burning fire in me matches its own; at least that's what the Theurge told me during the process. But he was a sarcastic one, so he might have been full of shit, messing with the new kid."
Leaning back, he begins to tinker with the metal again. Slowly taking shape, it looks like it would fit his hulking form as armor. Eventually.

Cool story! I dig it.
As far as using stuff outside of the W20 book, I don't want to say no, but I also don't want to end up with someone having something that makes the game less fun for everyone. If you want something that's not in the W20 book, take a screen shot of the test and PM it to me so that I can give it a look and have it for future reference. I'll make a decision whether to allow it or not then. Thanks.

From the Hammer & Klaive book under claw fetishes. The screencap is missing the description (they're claw fetishes?).

I'm fine with that fetish, but I'd rather it be an actual object rather than just carvings on your claws. Make it a bracelet or something like that? All the other fetishes are objects and I think that's a cool trend to keep.

Sounds good to me. I think I can find a bracelet or bracer image to base it off of. The tattoo and scar fetishes were always a little out of the norm to me as well

Ok, looks like we've just got one more character to go and we'll be ready to start.

Justice-Fair-But-Swift
I was born a captive in the Tibetan Black Wolf exhibit at the Seattle Zoo. As a cub, the Weaver laughed as I was unable to hunt and be free. My pack did their best to teach me what they could remember, but they had grown fat and lazy. Even the strongest instincts left unused wither on the vine eventually. I watched the humans shuffle through with curiosity at first and anger over time. I came to realize that my sedentary life served only to entertain these ogling idiots for a passing moment before buying a hot dog or a plush version of myself. All of them squandering an opportunity to connect to the natural world that they forgot so long ago.
Mother often chided my disdain, reminding me that we are not as distant from them as it may seem. Telling stories of heroes from long ago both wolf and man serving as a bridge between two worlds. Preserving the the Balance of Gaia, the Weaver, and the Wyrm. Despite their corruption and putrification in to their current forms. Even these enemies of Gaia had a purpose.
My first change came on the night of the Half Moon. A zookeeper had gotten drunk and foolish. He tried to get us to fetch sticks and do tricks, but got angry when we refused. He kicked my mother and Gaia blessed me with the power to protect her. I rose to my feet as Garou for the first time and destroyed him. His warm blood giving me the pleasure of the Hunt for the first time. I awoke that morning not as wolf, but man. Stumbling and uncoordinated in this foreign body, I was captured and put in a different cage, naked and without my pack for the first time. Trespassing they said as they pointed but I knew not what that meant.
For a week, I sat in this jail I found myself in until Sifu came for me. He knew me somehow and convinced them to release me. He took me to the woods for the first time and I luxuriated in Gaia's ample bosom. Sifu explained what we were and taught me to be Garou. Taught me the ways of our tribe, the Stargazers, and explained our purpose and mission. With this new found understanding, I pleaded with him to allow me to return and save my pack. His response was Swift and violent, it was that day my training began.
All life is suffering and the only way out of suffering is the Middle Way. He taught me to endure the suffering as long as I might ever need to find the Middle Way.
Having taught me all that he can, he has brought me to this Sept to experience the Garou Nation first hand and put my teachings in to practice.

That's cool! I like it.
So, looks like we all have our characters made up. I've got a plan for our starting adventure. Does anyone have any questions or anything they'd like to address before we kick it off?
It's the holiday season, so I'll be busy until this weekend, so I'll plan on starting this, this coming weekend, unless we're deep in a discussion we need to resolve before starting.

Hey guys, thanks for having me. I’m new to GP but have pbp experience at other sites in the past. I haven’t played much werewolf, but I’ve played a ton of VtM so I’m a huge OWoD fan. I read through the thread so have some idea of what the pack looks like, but I’m having trouble finding the actual sheets. Can someone give me a rundown of the current breed/auspice/tribe? My current idea is for a Homid/Philodox/Shadow Lord. Kind of a face/combat mix. I can be flexible to fill any gaps you guys think you have though.

Looks like the Pack is missing a Galliard, so I’ll start working down that path.

"I never knew my mother. Tragic, right? Turns out only having one parent is a rule in my family, but I didn't know why for a long time. My grandmother emigrated from Japan as a girl. Why she chose to settle in Packwood, Washington is a mystery to me, I never met the woman. Apparently my grandfather would turn up every few years to father a child, then disappear. After my father was born, no one ever saw him again. So my father grew up with a brother, a sister, and a mother, but no father. He turned out ok. According to him, my mother was mysterious, beautiful and strong; his time with her was like a dream. They had a torrid love affair, and I was born, then she disappeared. The same thing happened to his brother, with a different woman of course, but my cousin doesn't know his mother either. My aunt took after my grandmother, 3 children, no father. It all makes sense now, but it was strange growing up like that.
But I digress. You asked about me. Who I am, where I came from. My childhood was happy enough, I suppose. I was handsome and charming. People wanted to be my friend. But once they actually got to know me, no one ever wanted to be close. It was surprisingly lonely. The same thing with sports. I excelled in anything I tried, but I always felt let down by my teammates, they just couldn't live up to my expectations. I always felt on edge. Like I demanded more than was possible, not just from my peers, but from myself as well. More things that only make sense in retrospect.
It all came to a head shortly after my sixteenth birthday. One day, with no provocation, I was just filled with rage. I got into a fight at school and was sent home. I got into a fight with my father and ran out of the house. And I just kept running. Before I knew it, it was dark and I was deeper in the woods than I had ever been before. My senses were on edge. I wasn't frightened, exactly, I was just tense. That's when I saw them, wolves. A pair, then another, and another, a whole pack. The rage exploded, and so did my body. The Change. The first one is terrifying, but also exhilarating. I charged at the wolves, ready to tear them to pieces, when the Alpha appeared. Even through the frenzy, even through the beast that I had become, I remember thinking 'That wolf is friggin' huge!' It leapt and intercepted my charge. As I rolled, ready to fight, the massive wolf somehow became even more massive, a beast like myself. I charged anyway, and my foe knocked me aside with a casual backhand blow.
I woke up hours later, once again human, naked and wrapped in a fur blanket. The Alpha, now human as well, sat beside me. He was Kallik, a Wendigo. Kallik told me what I was. He taught me to shift. He taught me to hunt. I spent a year with his pack, mostly as a wolf. I was 10 miles from my childhood home, but I knew I could never go back. After a year, Kallik stated I was ready to fully join the pack. However, the night before my Passage, things changed. A massive black wolf loped into our pack. He ignored our bared fangs and growls. He simply changed into a well dressed man and demanded that Kallik heed him. He was Marius, my mother's brother, and he stated, bluntly, that I belonged to the Olympic sept. Kallik is a fearsome being, both man and wolf, but he gave in without a fight.
If my birth father taught be to be a man, and Kallik taught me to be a wolf, Marius taught me to be a Garou. He told me of my blood, of the Shadow Lords, of the Olympic sept. I learned the truth of my absent grandfather: he was a great leader among the Shadow Lords. He traveled to Japan to treat with our Hakken cousins, and bring back Kin, my grandmother included, across the ice to strengthen the Shadow Lord bloodlines here in Washington. I learned of my absent mother; she was a great warrior in the sept, an Ahroun of prodigious skill, but felled in battle without ever seeing me again. Marius, also an Ahroun, was disappointed in my Auspex. He said I was tenacious, and held on a few days too long before my birth. But he would not let that deter me. A Galliard could be a war leader, a poet whose words are wounds, and whose verses are fallen foes. Marius taught me to fight as a Garou, mixing the best of man and wolf. He taught me how to behave in Garou society, my society. He introduced me to the sept, he guided me through my Rite of Passage, and he brought me into my Shadow Lord family.
Marius gave me many gifts, but none greater than his last. After I became a full Cliath, he showed me a blade, THE blade, my blade. It was exquisite, forged from silver a thousand years ago. My ancestors, great warriors, had carried the blade to victory. It had been my mother's. Marius stated that by deed, the blade should be his, but by blood, it was mine. He taught me to use it, and gave it to me. But he also made it crystal clear, that if I did not live up the great responsibility of wielding a Klaive, he would eagerly take it from my corpse."

Once I get the thumb's up, I think I should just jump in like Konrad has been there the whole time
