The Cast

As your characters are approved, go ahead and give us a brief summary of your character. That way those who haven't made a character yet don't duplicate a lot.

Also, a list of investigative skills follows that at least one character has two points in. This will let you see what's not needed in case you have a choice between a few different skills that you can't make up your mind about.

EDIT: I have replaced the list with two lists. The first shows skills that more than one more have. (I'm not including Credit Rating, Occult, or Cthulu Mythos on this list.) The second shows skills that either no one has or that have only one point across the group. The reason I'm doing this is that it's very important for investigative skills to be covered. If there's gaps, that's fine, it's not mandatory, but if you have a skill in the first list and want to swap to one in the second, go for it, and post saying you're doing it.

My name is Cliff Ravenloft, investigative journalist extraordinaire. I currently work for the National Occult Weekly, but only until the mainstream media accepts the weird in the world. I'm 27 with black hair and green eyes. I believe in a healthy lifestyle but am not fitness nut. I believe life is too short to live too cautiously. I also believe that truth is the most important thing, even if a few rules have to get broken to find it.

Hmm . . . I am the one that was baptized by my parents as Agathe, although you may call me Madam D'Aurevilly. Currently, I enjoy earthly affairs and dabble in some art: I am told that my work is fascinating, and in fact, I do observe how people seem to be entranced by it. I suppose some may call me a Dilettante, but I see myself as a Firefly, guiding those lost in the darkness. I do not care so much for labels, however.

A long time ago, my family was struck by the dread and the despair that today inspire my work. I've come to seek enlightenment, to be able to produce more of my masterpieces, and so I've started to seek how cultures and people came to be, and how their dark customs developed alongside them. The alternatives as well. Have you heard of yoga? It's quite healthy.

I've been blessed by the light for I am wealthy, but not famous - At least not in mundane circles. And so I can live however I want: I understand that the police has to often come and ask my servants to lower the noise that my celebrations produce. Aside from them, and we all know these little man matter no, I am free to wander in the darkness.

I hope that satiates your curiosity because my throat becomes dry and I yearn to stop. Even fireflies have to rest, after all.

"Evenin'.

Detective Carson is the name. Although most people just call me Detective. Been working these streets for NYPD as a beat cop or a detective for about 2 decades. I started as any boy does, just wantin' to clean things up, protect people ya know? But recently that's become a pipe dream. A couple of missing person's cases I had been working went cold in their tracks under.... mysterious circumstances. So i started digging and I found a vast majority of the NYPD's cold cases are for missing people, well let's just say I got curious.

Ever hear the one about how curiosity killed the cat? Or cat's got 9 lives? Well in my career, I would say I'm a cat on and about my 7th life since I started digging into these missing people. I don't mind steppin on people to get to the answers, as long as they aren't good people. Don't generally need a partner when you can play good cop and bad cop on your own. I'm here to find answers, even if I'm starting to think that maybe the answers I'm lookin for won't be good answers at all..."
and with that I pull out a lucky strike from my trench coat and take a long drag.

At the reccomednation of our gamer master or "keeper" as apparently they are called in this game. I thought I would put out the list of the above skills they said we should try to cover and identify which ones Detective Carson has and if others could do the same then maybe we can make sure we have at least most of the bases covered?

Unless I'm mistaken, Ninja, I think that list that Falcon compiled comprises of all the abilities we already cover. Before I submitted my character, for example, a fairly good bunch of them weren't there.

And just a heads up: Simply having the investigative abilities will give you extra clues and information about what's happening. With the exception of Credit's Rating, there's little use for upgrading an ability beyond two points. By having one we should already be able to get main clues: Having two points in an ability tend to provide additional information or clarity, sometimes three as well and rarely four and beyond but that's very rare. That's (probably) why Falcon only cited the abilities we have more than two points assigned to and not their values. General abilities are different because they are spent in use - I mean, so can Investigative abilities but that's not normal.

So, I'm just a street guy. Served in the Marines as an MP but been a private dick ever since I got out. Got my own shop in Albany down on Pearl Street near Pine. I been shot twice but got back up so now I can shoot better than most. Gotta protect yourself, ya know. Got a place in the woods 'bout 40 minutes east of town where I like to go and hole up when things get too hot in town. Fishin's not bad in the Pond.

Know a lot of people here in town. Big lawyer here in town owes me one. Figure I better collect sooner than later. Heard talk of some strange doin's out by the cabin. Kinda odd for Berlin, real quiet little town. Thought I'd take a run out there maybe this weekend to see what's up. I'm kinds between jobs right now.

Hey all I'm giving a little blurb from my character sheet.

My background: Known to the Corneliszels as a second cousin. My father's sister went insane that led me to want to learn all about the brain. All aspects So at 19 I wenr to medical school my interest in the intricacies of the mind far surpassed any draw the menial functions of the rest of the body held. My professional career began at Etheridge Hospital for the Insane.

Your not quoting Etheridge Knight's poetry there are you, Lwunder? And I believe that hospital was in Louisiana. Or do you just like the name Etheridge?
Jan 29, 2019 9:59 pm
Nope just starting at the etheridge hospital in my past

Hmmm... Falcon, I'll be switching Languages to Architecture, and also lower both Flattery and Art History, putting those two extra points in Library Use.

Sounds good.

Jan 30, 2019 5:06 pm
Yes, it is.
Jan 30, 2019 6:17 pm

Falconloft says:
And a coroner who has yet to make an appearance.
Just waiting for the word that my character is acceptable, and I'll enter stage right.
