Hello there! Glad to be around! Looking forward for the game!

Greetings. as Vexander said, looking forward to playing. I've done a bit of GMing with the system, but very little actual playing. I'm the most Star Wars inclined of my gaming groups, so I'm usually the one dragging people into playing in this 'verse.

I don't know what all Arina is thinking with regards to character creations, but what are people thinking for characters? I'm not sure how much collaboration people want to do, but thought it might be a good idea to start talking about things. With 9 players there's gonna be some overlap, for sure...

Possibly some overlap. Perhaps not. It doesn't worry me too much. I assure you, the large number of players won't effect your experience negatively. I have plans. It should be fun.

This game filled up faster than expected. Anyway, we should probably move this discussion over to the character creation thread but for your backstories, they have to be semi co-operatively constructed as you have all been living together for the past 12 years. You all know each other quite well.

Regarding your dice interpretation house rule, does that mean you will be providing the combat statistics for enemies and we can update as we go?

Probably not. Why would you need the combat stats of the PCs. You can describe your attacks and hits and I will let you know if a creature falls. The same is true for slicing etc. Describe the success, failure, advantage gained etc.

I was just thinking it’s a way to streamline things for a pbp format. If i know the defense and wounds of an enemy, I can be proactive with rolls and give a more descriptive narration of my roll.

I've seen this handled in the past by the Player, unless they've heard something different in advance, just rolls an Average Difficulty. From there the GM can add additional dice, as needed.

My guy's name is Piodas Leone btw... I didn't select Force Power yet but the general sheet has been submitted Arina.

I actually have a question that hopefully Arina (or maybe one of the more experienced Play-by-post folks can help with. I've done other games PbP, but never Star Wars. How does one handle "once per session" abilities?

Y'all, how are we going to handle the Character Relationships thread? Are we supposed to write a single lonely story with another character? Because that may leave a few people out... Otherwise, should we write one for every character? (i.e 8 stories)Or maybe one for each connection in total? (Meaning, if I tell a story about Carabas's character and mine, then he wouldn't be able to do it likewise, and we'd have one for every possible connection).

That sounds like a lot of stories . . . Hm, I have an idea. How about each of us nominate two of the others to construct a story about their characters. You can't nominate your own, only pick two of the others. And then those two work things out between them.

Like, me nominating, for example, you and Vex and then you both would cook a story between your characters? If everyone's ok with it, sure. That sounds fun! Still, we should impose a limit per person. What about... No one should be nominated more than twice, and no one can be nominated twice until everyone has been nominated at least once? Is everyone ok with it?

I nominate Avi and Kit. We already know a little bit about Avi and Taryn and Avi and Ian but nothing about her and Kit who seems to be the most hardcore into the Jedi thing and her the most anti-Jedi.

So, to clarify how this is going to work, since Lux nominated myself and Vex are we now going to each, individually, come up with brief stories of times when Evelynn and Piodas got into shenanigans with Avi? Or are we going to work collaboratively to come up with a time where Piodas, Evelynn, AND Avi all got into trouble together? Or is it more I'll write about when Evelynn and Avi went on an adventure and then also when Evelynn and Piodas did stuff?

Hahaha, nah friend. Essentially, because I nominated you and Vex, effectively you and Vex are going to come up with a story involving both Piodas and Evelynn. Avi can be part of it I guess, or anyone else, but the story itself should be about Piodas's and Evelynn's relationship. More than that, both of you and Vex should nominate two other players each to do the same.

Edit: And after that, you should post the story in the Relationship thread. I think each player should do this twice and with different people I guess, so everyone can post. In this same example, maybe this story about Evelynn and Piodas will be posted by Vex. Smeeg is going to be eventually nominated again with another player and then she should post it herself. We should be careful to not nominate two people who haven't posted yet. After the first round, that is. Because if Cep nominated me and Details and Details submits the story, and I nominated Smeeg and Vex and Vex submits the story, if I am nominated with Smeeg then we both would still need to submit it.

Just waiting on Details 52 to get their character written up and then I'll get us all underway. It's great that some of you are taking the initiative and expanding on your character's relationships with the other players but I'm sure that we are all itching to get going.

Regardless, I will open the official game thread shortly, possibly tomorrow, when I find the time.

As a side thing, should our character sheets be set so everyone else can see them? Normally in a game I would think they should be kept private, but in this circumstance maybe they should be set public since we know each other so well? What do you guys think?

I'm down for private or public settings on the sheets. Honestly, I'll have to figure out how to do that since this is my first time doing a PbP but I don't expect that that'll be too hard of a thing.

I always have mine on public, its a personal choice.

Awesome, I dig it... Except to point out that training sabers don't have energy blades like normal sabers. They're more like energized sticks that shock when they hit something. Still, I'll allow it for coolness points (not that it's up to me, lol). Great work you two.

EDIT: Eh, I dunno. I always thought of training sabers more as electrified sticks, but I guess the actual descriptions in the book has them as true energy blades, just severely hampered versions which don't do lethal damage. So yeah, roll with it. Also, crap, now I gotta think up a saber color for Evelynn (or two).

Well, for training sabers I -think- they come in only the two basic flavors: lime and cool-blue-razz. But that's only because in Attack of the Clones they had that stupid Youngling class where the kids had exactly 6 inches of room to move apiece and their blades were all blue and green. Statistically -someone- in the group would have been given one with a different color if one was available.

Fair point. I try to forget that those movies exist most of the time and my mind was flashing to SWTOR and their "practice sabers" as a default. And another thing to consider is that I think that the saber is supposed to take on a color as the Force user attunes with the crystal. We likely wouldn't have done that with training sabers since it seems like the crystal is coupled with the training emitter (per RAW) which is what makes the blades into nonlethal versions.

Training sabers (per RAW) don't have crystals. Rather, the training emitter replaces the crystal, and the wording treats it exactly like a crystal. The specifics are on page 200 of the core book.

Yeah, I just imagine, since the exact internal mechanics of a training emitter aren't spelled out anywhere that inside the device is a kyber crystal as it is what (traditionally) helps focus and shape the blade of a lightsaber, so it makes sense to me for one to be housed within the emitter. Most likely dampened in some way that, when coupled with an "ultra-low-output power generator" allows the blade to be produced but reduced significantly so that it only does nonlethal stun damage. That is, however, simply my opinion on the matter.

Yes, I am waiting for details to get their charscter written up. That's why I haven't started the game yet.

Statistically, I would say that on average something like 50% of the players who are here right now will not be here in like 6 months... Combine that with the fact that Details has only been a member of the forum for about 2 weeks and... well, I don't know how much value there is in putting everything on hold for them.

But I'm also fairly aggressive as a GM when it comes to pushing posting frequency goals.

We can be hopeful! Still, as for starting the game, maybe wait until tomorrow and if he doesn't show up, post anyways? You can make Master Selak send him on his own mission or something. I'm just excited for the game x)

@Emsquared: I sent him a PM and he replied, so he's doing everything right in my book. If there is no character in within 24 hours I will re-evaluate. However, I've decided to start the game regardless. I will open it shorlty.

Btw... I am soooo thrilled to know what has been up with the Rebellion and the overall Galaxy and how they would perceive the Padawan Pack as we come visible... or if that will ever happen! :D

My wife actually applied as well. She has a character sheet already prepped and I know she'd be free to post a couple times a day, at least. I think you guys would like her character. A Zabrak that she's played as a Padawan and Knight in both online and table top games. But yeah, there's a lot of people who'd like to play, I imagine.

As for the Rebellion, depending on where we are in the galaxy/Rishi Maze, it might be a while before we find them. I think it'll be fun that we'll immediately go from off the radar to Public Enemy #1 for the Empire as soon as they catch wind of us.

Yeah, a buddy of mine applied too late to get in as well. And judging by the interest in the exploratory post that Arina made on the forums here there was plenty of interest it seems.

But being Public Enemy #1 sounds so exciting! I just have huuuge hopes for the whole stuff and a lot of RP

Weird question, people. Is Avi's avatar seeable enough? My vision kinda doesn't work so I use the forums with a 150% zoom. I spent like one hour and a half editing her picture - Initially, I wanted the full picture but you could barely make out her face. I wish the avatar size were a bit bigger... But oh well.

Yea, I tend to reuse names across different rpgs, so I've taken up a different method of identifying my PCs in my Character list.

His name displays as his name when I use his avatar, and I think that's the important part yea?

Taryn's avatar is a work-in-progress. I can't seem to find art for a Star-Warsey roguelike male character that I like the look off.

As for the Rebellion, if we got taken in the final days of the Clone Wars, we are at the latest 12 years after the Empire started, which would be a few years before Star Wars: Rebels starts. Could be earlier. There shouldn't be much of a Rebellion to speak of yet, just a few isolated groups.

We can always start one...

There's lots of little (some not so little) Rebellions going on right now, by canon. The Ryloth Rebellion for one, Saw Gerrera on Jedha, and Mon Mothma's rebel cell starts up pretty soon which forms into THE Rebellion I think, but no, no unified Rebellion.

I imagine the "Rebellion" at this point is kinda like the start of Rebels. Lots of small localized cells working independently with no central organization. A government as large and oppressive as the Galactic Empire is probably constantly dealing with rebellion somewhere

As for the Rebellion, I'm almost looking forward to the shell shock for our characters when we learn that the "awesome, cool Defenders of the Republic" are being called traitors, liars, murders, etc... I think some will buckle down harder in the faith in the Jedi while others will just be like, "Aha! I knew it!" Should be fun nonetheless.

Also, I think Cep and somebox are up to suggest the next round of character relation story writers...

Hey Arina, probably should have asked this earlier, but I left some experience from character creation unspent, intending to put it into my Force Power, as that is where it would have gone if I could have bought the Power in character creation. Is this Ok with you?

I didn't left any XP for Force Power... didn't know we had to leave some... thought that was not the case.

As I understood it, we are each getting a basic Force power for free. The extra xp could be used to improve it.

Yea, it was just very unclear to me how this all would work, in the narrative, and mechanically. If we would be getting just a Basic Power, if we would be getting it in some sort of prologue/flashback, if we could buy other Powers after we got our first, if we could spend our XP how we would have if it was normal character creation afterward, and so on.

I'm fine with whatever, including banking the xp until we are at the next point in the story where we can spend it. But yea, I guess I just assumed we were going to basically be completing character creation through the story, but recently realized that was just an assumption.

I'm with the others. I spent all my starting exp during character creation, but will happily invest any additional exp we may get into improving and/or buying new Force powers. I'll admit, though, it felt odd not buying any Force powers, heh.

I consider it like getting 10-15 bonus XP.

I have a feeling restricting us to one beginning Force power is more about not overwhelming someone who's running FFG for the first time than anything else. I get it. I basically learned the system the same day i got approved for the game.

Totes. I am still weighing my choice of getting one attribute at 4 and one at 3 instead of 3 or 4 at 3. But i'mma try it.

You were supposed to spend all of your XP during character creation and this new force power is for free.

Initially, i didn't really want you to upgrade your force power just yet, as narratively speaking, it makes more sense to use it first, before becoming a master at it.

But upon reflection, I figure that's really up to you guys. Maybe you're a natural or maybe you'ee a really quick learner or perhaps the force simply answers your call more efficiently than others. Basically, as long as you justify your character development from a narative perspective so that it makes sense, I'm ok with practically anything.

Also, time is about to get a little funky, so there will be plenty of opportunities for you to get creative.

@Emsquared: You are more than welcome to re-edit and spend your XP as you havent used an ability yet.

That goes for everyone else too. If you spent XP on a force power (or anything else for that matter) and want to take it back and spend it elsewhere, go for it. Everything is fair game until you make your first roll.

That is exactly how I envisioned it. We are finishing off your character creation together. Although, there may be a little drama along the way :)

Regarding gear, I'm assuming we just get the starting gear you mentioned (training saber, concealing robes, and 5 Stimpaks), and zero credits? Cuz that all costs more than the baseline 500 starting credits. Was that a correct assumption? Or do we still have the base 500 starting credits?

(And we'll RP out how we get anything we might receive from our wish list.)

Honestly, for gameplay reasons Enhance or Move would have been my first picks as those are both super handy powers, but for RP reasons, Evelynn would have gone into Sense first. So I'll go that route (as you indicated), and just get the others later, heh.

Sense is what I wanted. As for why Sense is so popular, at FR1, it’s really hard to get off a power that requires a FR roll. Sense and Enhance both have good, easy to obtain Commit upgrades that can be used well at FR1.

We can move it here but no, it doesn't make any sense from a logic standpoint. I understand how you're applying the rules system and the math involved, though. We can move it here for further discussion if you want but . . . to be honest it was really kind of a one-off thing. I was more interested in seeing if the system could correctly translate character concept to dice rolls. I was considering replacing SAGA with FFG for my tabletop group and wanted to try it out online first. You guys seem to have a lot more experience with the system than I do and I'm appreciating the chance to learn about it. Like you said, the RP is more important, anyways.

Yeah, I can see what you're trying to do based on the old SAGA system. You're effectively using your deception roll as the difficulty then having the others roll their checks in comparison to it. I'm not sure that translates as well in this system, since it isn't as numerically oriented as Saga is, but I guess I can see it working sort of. Similar to initiative, almost. Stack up successes and advantage, cancel as appropriate and whoever has more successes "wins" the roll and can tell he's lying where those who have less don't pick up on the deception.

I guess it could work, but it gets tricky with talents like Evelynn has where incoming checks are upgraded unless you do something like what I did where I upgraded her normal Discipline check...

Yeah, my choice was to either mod SAGA, mod Feng Shui, using my original system that's still woefully undeveloped or use FFG so I thought I would try FFG first. And that's the thing. FFG -is- numerical oriented, I'm actually seeing it as more numerically oriented than anything outside the old WEG system.

I guess I can sort of see that, in that you're counting up your total number of success, advantages, etc. But at the same time, its far, far less numerically oriented than anything d20 based, which is literally all numbers.

Honestly, I think this is one of the best SW systems I've used before. But it REALLY helps to have an engaged group who is active in really working within the narrative dice system. Hell, in the other game we're in I'm actually going to ask for setback dice thu be added to my characters check to represent her being nervous af and not at all comfortable in a firefight.

I think part of the problem is/was that there really was no reason to roll the dice in this specific circumstance. Your Deception was largely inconsequential to the ways most PCs reacted. You were narrating your PC in a way that already told us most of what we could have learned through an opposed test.

The way I would have handled it would be:

1. You RP whatever you want to rp.

2. If another player thinks you're hiding something, they would say "I want to see if you're lieing here."

3. They would assemble their Discipline pool, using your Deception as the Difficulty (plus modifiers).

4. Other players could say, "Yea, I want to Help that effort." And they could either swipe in their Characteristic OR Skill of it was higher than the original, as per the Helping rules. Or add a Boost die.

5. Other ppl are free to take your RP at face value of they want. And/or if they believe they learned all they need to know from the RP.

6. There's no point in this circumstance in demanding rolls of ppl.

By the way, I was under the impression that the Interlude would happen independently of the story. I'm cool with just RPing slice of life, but are waiting for the story to proceed, or?

As I understand it, Arina is at reduced availability ATM.

I started it up just to pass the time so that Arina could do her thing without having to worry about being absent because of RL. It's supposed to be just what happens directly after the Force power tests but before the Death Star drops out of hyperspace and opens fire.

It's mostly just RP stuff, characters interacting and whatnot, so not necessary if you want to be off in your room or somewhere else. Hell, you could always not read it, then walk into wherever you want and be like, "So, what's going on, guys?" Lol. You're call.

Zafe: in a cave on top of a mountain (not your home cave).
Ian: A dark jedi has your crystal in their lightsabre
Alyx: You know that your crystal is off world somewhere but you don't know where.

I don't see Zepharo's relationship with the Force as being the "vision-receiving" type. But rather he would be guided to it more by "instinct". My idea was for him to find it while it hunting, he'd think he was on the trail of some prey, but it's actually his senses/connection to the Force guiding him to the crystal in a crevice on a jungle cliffside.

I just wanted to preemptively kill any dramatic tension that Darth Vader might bring in this story.

I was trying to find out earlier. For me it would just be really sad if we include some detail about someone's character and then it has to be changed because they were Wonderful Lifed out of existence.

Okay, I'm in the hospital for Friday and Saturday (nothing serious, just annoying). I'll try to get in some short posts on my phone, but I hate using that tiny keypad so the big quest for the crystal is going to have to wait till I get back home. I am not sure what is the status of my character or if I should post about going deeper into the caves to get my crystal?

@Piodas: Everyone is travelling together. You are all in the mushroom chamber. There are no obvious exits from this chamber. Master Selak warned you not to go off alone.

@Ian and Avi: you should both have a point of conflict for using the dark side of the force.

I get the sense that if we want to succeed at easy tasks in things our characters are good at, we should try to do it without rolling dice.

I've sent a PM to Lux (Avi) and it seems as though she is going to be busy for the next week or so. To keep things moving along I thought we might move on to Evelynn's crystals. Narratively speaking, I thought it might work if Avi insists on finding her crystal alone and asks the rest of you to continue on without her.

I have a question about our knowledge of the larger universe.

So, Stormtrooper accuracy was mentioned in the last post. Now,jokes about that aside, would we, or master Selak for that matter, even know what Stormtroopers are? He did leave the Republic some time before Order 66. Whatwould we know about the Empire? Would we even know there is an Empire instead of a Sith-lead Republic?

He would certainly know about the clones but no, he wouldn't know about the Empire.

You would know that there is a republic and that it is battling a separatist army of droids.

And that there are no more Jedi. We know that too.

Hello everyone, I would like to apologise as I do not believe this game has been receiving the attention that it deserves for the past couple of weeks. As it stands I'm feeling a tad burnt out at the moment, so I have decided to quit running this game while I still like it rather than continue to run something until I kill my love for the game.

I want to thank each of you for your participation in the game. I have loved reading your interactions and responses to the challenges I have presented.

Thank you very much for your participation. I will still be around on gamersplane but I won't be running any games for some time.

I echo what Cep and Uk said. You gotta take care of you first and I know first hand that running a game is ... rough at times. Doing it via pbp is probably more troublesome, honestly. If you ever wanna come back to it, just lemme know. I'm always down for Jedi shenanigans.
