General Discussion

Hey guys, I apologize for being a couple days late with the registration. I got the flu. I'm on the mend now, so we should be off and running in no time.

My timeline is to have all the characters created by the end of the week, so we can get the story going after that.

Generally speaking, as a GM if I'm doing something that you don't feel matches up with the rules as intended, let me know, it's a learning process, nobody can memorize everything. I'm more than happy to learn more about how different folks interpret things.

I look forward to reading your backstories, and getting you into the adventure.

I had originally started making a Rodian Hired Gun but I decided to use him in a different game so now I'm going to make a Human Doctor who may be something more than a doctor which might have something to do with his Obligations. So if i use an additional 10 point obligation do I get an additional 10 points to add to my ability scores?

MEDIC!!!!

Seriously though, that is, generally, how it works Aldrusian. Though I think that with a group of 5 players our Group Obligation is 5 points, which means we can only take a maximum of 5 additional points. You can't take additional Obligation greater than your starting group obligation.

@Kirk Do we need to worry about taking Duty or are we using solely Obligation?

I'm not sure what I'm thinking, yet, for character. Possibly a pilot of some sort, if no one has their eyes set on that one. Maybe he's a freighter pilot for now, but dreams of getitng his hands on an X-Wing... I dunno, I haven't had a chance to put much thought into it yet as I've been sick myself of late. Seems like it's going around.

A freighter pilot would be more valuable than fighter pilot. After all, Han Solo was a freighter pilot. And as far as obligation is concerned what I read in the rules was that for 5-6 players total obligation should be about 60 or 10 points per character. I'll take another look.

On table 2-2 on page 40 of my EotE pdf it lists obligation for a team of up to 5 players should be 10 points per player. 6 or higher would be 5 per player.

I'll defer to you, then. I was away from my books when I quoted that and couldn't recall if it was 5+ for the 5 Obligation or 6+. Cool, more bonus stats then!

Ill be doing my character up at some point tonight. i have a few ideas conceptualized but im not totally sure what to go with. I was thinking a droid of some sort would be super cool, Or even maybe a Xexto or Rodian. Im unsure though, what do you guys think would fit the best?

My doc needs something to fix (if not fixate on) so a Rodian is always good. He would be more familiar with a lung breather but a skin absorber would be fine.

Ive been looking at Races in all the splat books i have access to, and the Gand have piqued my curiosity greatly. They may be a bit more difficult for the doc to work on, but im sure anyone with medical training would know that they breath ammonia and as such their physiology is built around that. Theres so many options though, i really dont know what to build for this haha

Okay so ive decided on a heavy weapons specialist using the Ace Gunner tree. it gives me Gunnery and Ranged heavy, and id like him to use a heavy repeating blaster similar to Baze Malbus in Rogue one, with the big ass fuel cell on the back. would that work? it seems like we have a pilot, and a doctor, so id fit the tankier role, and id be able to operate the guns on the ship as well as on the ground, so im not useless if were flying. Unless i can use Edge of the Empire stuff, because Hired Gun/ Heavy would work a little better i think

Still havent picked a race though .-.

Shit, the weapons i wanted to purchase for my character is 6000 credits and restricted. Coulkd buy a flame projector though..

Wait nevermind. i was looking at a heavy repeating blaster, which is like an E-Web and requires a stand, i want a light repeating blaster i think. It has to be handheld. If i use my obligation for credits, i can afford my weapon, but it is still Restricted.

If the GM is okay with me purchasing it then i will, if not ill figure out a different weapon

I got so lost in building my character i forgot all we could buy was rarity 4 or lower. Might come up with a new concept.

I use EotE almost exclusively.

So ive narrowed it down a bit. Jawa or Gand or Droid Demolitionist sounds fun as heck, and the concept is super hilarious. I just am not sure if Jawas speak basic or if that concept is way too off base for the campaign we are going to run. Id like to do a Jawa, but i feel like based on their culture a Jawa doesnt fit the concept well.

Im mostly leaning towards Jawa, but if thats too out there then ill pick between a Gand or a Droid

Saboteur might be better than demolitionist, its got a wider array of skills for outside combat. Demolitionist is a lot of grenade throwing and i dont wanna be a one trick pony with only combat skills, id like to break things outside combat too.

I dont have the stats for a Jawa so I'd need some info for it if you're heading that direction.

I think they have Jawa stats in the Complete Species Guide, you can find a link to it on the FFG forums. It's unofficial, but from what I've seen tends to be fairly well balanced.

Its all good, i think ive settled on Droid instead anyways. Theyre more suitable and adaptable to the build i had in mind, what with the ability to get modular parts eventually.

Just a quick question, will the game have a more starship or groundbased focus?

Its player dependent. Whatever you guys want to spend time doing.
