Scene 4 - Graveyard of the Methhead

Mar 14, 2019 12:47 am
Ruk, you can't believe that you're in Ruk. What a craphole. And that weasley methhead Culkin... sure, he got you here the first time, but then he stayed behind while you went and did all the hard work.

You made your way out of the translation spot, an abandoned bodega-analog named "Exotic Fine Meats" that has been taken over by Fischer Astrotech. The building's windows are papered over, purportedly 'under renovation' and you spy a set of keys for the door. But Dr. Culkin is not here.

You have the device, although here it has transformed back into its original form. You and your gear have also transformed to their Rukish styles.
[ +- ] The Rukish Weapon
Where do you go from here? Why is the path unclear?
Mar 14, 2019 3:25 am
Seth grabs the keys and looks to the others. "Well...lacking other options, it would seem we should head inside the 'bodega', or whatever it is called here in Ruk. What do we all think?"
Mar 14, 2019 3:58 am
OOC:
My understanding is that we translated inside the bodega...
Micah looks around and then looks down at himself and chuckles wryly. "At least I've got more clothes on, here. Though, that outfit from Arden was pretty... free."
Mar 14, 2019 5:25 am
Looking down with a smile. "Ah. This much better. The strength here is nice." Realizing the awkwardness of her actions she quickly collects herself. "Yes, finding a trail to start is first job." She starts to turn the place over looking for a clue.

Mar 17, 2019 3:42 am
L0nstar's strange abilities give him conflicting information, like a flickering of the trail. Something doesn't add up.

Seth, looking inwards, sees an underground city, Rukish tech around, and cracks and rubble from some collapse, and a sees a flash, a flickering energy rolling across an onyx doorway. He knows intuitively that it is an inapposite gate, and Culkin went through it. Unwillingly.

Katyushka is able to piece together that the door to the street is unlocked, and Dr. Culkin's personal effects are hear, like his credit chip and comm unit. If he left, he did not mean to, or maybe expected to be back in a few moments.

You've all recovered from the Translation. What's your next move?
Mar 17, 2019 8:42 am
"He was here. He left not his own will." She points out the spot Culkin's stuff is in. "We need hurry if we want to catch up." She stands and draws her blade. "Anyone can see what direction he went?"
Mar 17, 2019 7:37 pm
Micah shakes his head and sighs in exasperation. "Well, this is just great. You'd think he'd be better at taking care of himself."
Mar 18, 2019 12:10 pm
"I got something but I can't tell what's off bout it yet..."
Mar 18, 2019 3:03 pm
"That boob. He did leave unwillingly, through an inapposite gate...I saw an underground city full of Rukish Tech and rubble and cracks from some sort of collapse. I suppose we are going to get to meet the Machine God sooner rather than later." Seth says, shaking his head to remove the flickering residual images that seem to want to hang on behind his eyelids.
Mar 20, 2019 3:40 am
How are you going to find this underground city?
Mar 20, 2019 7:52 am
"Well it appear as if he left with intention to return. Let us check the street for trail." She walks to the unlocked door and opens it. "Be in lookout. If he was taken, what taken him may still be here."
Mar 20, 2019 2:49 pm
"Lead on, Ms. Sokolov. Duke, perhaps you can try to get a better read on where he is as we attempt to follow his physical trail." Seth heads for the door, before turning to Micah, "Mr. Mullron, could you perhaps utilize your natural charms to see if we can ask any passersby if they either saw anything or know about any underground ruins as we walk?"
Mar 21, 2019 2:51 am
"I can certainly give it a try," he says with a sober nod.

Walking outside, Micah scans the street, trying to think about the best way to approach this investigation. Coming to a decision, he smiles and jumps in front of a passerby, his arms spread wide.

"Hey, what's up, how you doin'? Hey, my name's Mike and I'm looking for a site for my next recorded stunt, looking for some kick ass undergeound ruins to explore and jump off of. Got any suggestions? Know where I can find some? But they gotta be epic, right? The most, cant be the best with a second rate site, ya'know?"

Micah stumbles a bit as he's set free. He shakes his head, putting one hand to the side of it, as he looks at Katyu and his attackers in confusion. Mar 29, 2019 7:19 am
Combat is over.

One awkward montage later...

Life on the streets is complicated, with rules that don't always make sense to the uninitiated. Perhaps you see in each other a series of choices that could have placed you on the others shoes, or perhaps it is just kismet.

After the attempted kidnapping is interrupted, the forces behind the ensuing combat break down, and you find yourselves standing in a street corner having a friendly encounter that leads to brunch at the Rukish version of Denny's.

You're all packed into one of those large circular corner booths, looking over a menu and selecting from a short list of flavored nutrient bags. Kobak, the leader of the kidnapping detail, says, "So after they packed up that weasley strung out dude, the Karum agent paid us to keep an eye out for anyone else that came to the storefront. But the Karum is cheap these days, so they didn't pay us enough to get into a gunfight. And that brings us to here."

Graff, the biggest of them, points out a Healthy Choice mealbag to Micah. "This one will counteract the last of the drugs effects."
Mar 29, 2019 1:44 pm
"I do have to say that I did not foresee this confrontation ending up quite this way. You fellows are a lot of fun to hang out with. I am glad we didn't have to attack one another." Seth says, genuine surprise on his face. He thinks for a second and adds,"Did you say you packed up a weasly, strung out looking person before we arrived? Where were they taken, do you know?"
Mar 29, 2019 3:46 pm
Kobak pulls out an electronic communication device, and thumbs a few buttons, before turning it around. The screen shows a picture of Dr. Culkin bound and gagged with the gang posing as one would against a trussed up hunting trophy. "Sorry, I know he's your friend."

Graff, whispers, "Awkward," in a singsong way.

Kobak continues, "Yeah. So they took him to Dran. After the Strangequakes brought down so many of the tunnels, it's been mostly abandoned. I think there is a tent city on the surface, but we haven't been."
Mar 29, 2019 4:21 pm
"Well hell business is business ain't it, can't fault yall for making a living since yall are being hospitable with the information... If we see your employer we'll bring you a 'trophy' from your 'former employer' if yall like." Duke states with a digitized twang, a menacing smirk hidden inside his full head helmet.
Mar 29, 2019 5:34 pm
"Besides, he's not really our 'friend' per say. We do need him though. How do we get to this place, Dran, was it?" Seth stands up and checks his pockets. "Now who is paying, or are we splitting the check here?"
Mar 30, 2019 1:17 am
Micah sits, watching the conversation take place around him with his cheek resting on one hand. The pressure of his head on the hand pulls his cheek up, giving him the look of a lopsided smirk. His eyes are bleary. When he gets the food suggestion, he waves down whatever wait-staff there is to make his order. "Quickly, please..." he mumbles.

When he sees Culkin trussed up, he barks a laugh and tries to compose himself, then breaks down into a chuckle again. "Oh, I need that pic. Can you send it to me? I want to print it and put it on his desk at the home office." He leans back, pushing against the table to stretch his core out. "That drug is no fun. Couldn't you at least have chosen a fun drug?" He smacks his lips, licking the inside of his mouth. "Got some serious dry mouth..." he continues, to no one in particular.

"I'll be down to head to Dran after I get some food in me. I suddenly have no desire to explore this land any further..."
Mar 30, 2019 6:52 pm
The thugs laugh at Lonstar, Seth, and Micah, though with you, not at you.

Kobak replies, "What do you think, men, could we take them to Dran? Maybe we can 'pick up' some odd jobs there ourselves, eh?"

The thugs seem enthusiastic. Or is it all just a plot to get you into the cargo vehicle without a fight!!??
Mar 31, 2019 5:22 pm
Katyu sits quietly(drinking of course) listening doubtfully to the proposition.
Mar 31, 2019 10:33 pm
"Hey, if you want to pick up the odd side job while taking us there, I'm all for it," he says. Then, his eyes get hard and he leans forward and stares at them. "But, if you ever come after me like that again, I will kill you in your sleep." With his emotion, his body goes a little translucent, flickering digitally, then relaxes as he leans back. His food arrives and he calmly scoops it up and pulls off the cap, putting the tube to his mouth and taking a long pull of the paste.

"Ahhh..." he sighs, "this is about as bad as I expected it to be."
Apr 1, 2019 3:17 pm
Seth takes off his glasses, and eyes each of them in turn, making sure that they see his nictating lenses flex to be sure they know what he is here in Ruk. "Frankly, gentlemen, we would much prefer directions or a crude map than your company. No offense meant, but you have revealed yourselves to be mercenaries who have already tried to apprehend us forcefully." He loosens his coat a bit, and flexes his shoulders."We wouldn't want to interrupt the...meals of these fine people around us with your severed limbs, heads, or other viscera flying past them, now would we?
Apr 1, 2019 3:42 pm
Kobak holds up his gloved hands. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, what's with the sudden hostility. We're just friendly blokes here, colleagues even." The guy beside Kobak whispers in his ear. "Well, there is that minor incident of the attempted kidnapping, sure, but I thought we were all past that." The guy whispers again. "Well, he didn't," he says pointing at Whispers.

He looks around and grabs the electronic menu and hands it to Whispers. "Draw them a map, I'll go pay for the slop." He stands up and heads to the kiosk and clears the bill using a credit chip.

Meanwhile, Whispers cracks the back off the menu and deftly hacks it, then turning it over, and using the interface to pull up a crude map of Ruk, and pencils in Dran on top. Before handing the tablet over to Seth.

The large thug, Graff, suggests that, "You might be able to make your way to Dran by three methods, each with their own perils. You could take the Veritrex, the underground series of tunnels throughout Ruk. It isn't a straightforward path, and you run the risk of crossing criminals and gangs. You could walk, through the jungles and terrain, but there are creatures in those lands, creatures best left alone. Lastly, you could hire a flyer, but they're a tad expensive."
Apr 4, 2019 3:18 am
Micah nods and asks, "How much are we talking to hire the flyer? That seems like it's the most direct path, but if it's too much, I vote jungle."
Apr 4, 2019 9:11 pm
"You want to face unknown beasts and the disgustingly dirty and wet jungle?" She says shockingly. "I hate the wilderness, we just left place of wild and untamed. I much rather face criminals and gangs." She looks to be thinking for a few moments. "But in underground I am no use with rifle. Fine, I vote jungle if not the flyer."
Apr 4, 2019 9:32 pm
The fee for the one way flyer ticket would be 100 Ruk bits.
Apr 5, 2019 12:50 pm
Seth shrugs and says"Well then, let's hire a flyer. We will put it on Culkin's tab. Do we have enough cash on us to cover it?"
Apr 5, 2019 4:28 pm
After saying goodbye to your odd gang of disinterested thugs, and taking their directions, you travel up higher in the vertically robust city of Harmonius. You find a series of vehicles for rent, their owners sitting in front of them, clearly ready to engage a new fare.

The vehicles are somewhat smallish for your group, or very large. One you find that is suitable, and within your price range, is run by a woman named Hoosan. She is somewhat alarming to look at, with her biologic implants, but has a soothing sort of grandmotherly voice, and speaks kindly. She suggests that she can get you there in a few hours travel aboard her Rift Runner. It's been decorated to look a little steampunk (as Earthers might say), but she shows you that it is functional and technologically modern.

Apr 6, 2019 2:43 am
Micah pays over his portion of the fee (which is likely all of his 50 bits) and elbows Vinny with a smirk, "On that ship, we're going to look like sky pirates searching for El Dorado!"
Apr 8, 2019 1:42 pm
Seth throws his bits in as well "If this doesn't end up being enough, perhaps we have Culkin pay the rest when we find him."
Apr 9, 2019 3:55 am
Micah barks a laugh. "That cheap bastard. He still owes me my signing bonus... from two years ago!"
Apr 9, 2019 8:03 pm
Seth gives a sly smile and looks to Micah. "Well then, perhaps when we write up the reimbursement slip for this excursion we can add a little...padding."
Apr 11, 2019 3:38 pm
You manage to scrape together an assortment of Ruk bits, and pay Hoosan. She crams you into the craft, and you find a few uncomfortable places to stand. She comes around and lowers some jump seats from the sides of the vehicle. You sit, and it seems all better, comfortable in the oddly decorated craft.

With a few subvocalized barks, the ship slips free of its moorings as she slides into the navigation chair. Facing backwards toward you as the ship drifts away from the dock, she says, "So, Dran? That's kind of fucked up. Why in the shoals would you want to go there? You don't have to tell me, of course, but spit it out already!"
Apr 12, 2019 2:32 am
Micah smiles at her. "I like you," he says. "So I won't tell you. If I did, I'd have to kill you." He pauses for a second and then laughs grimly. "No, but seriously, we're going to pick up our boss."
Apr 12, 2019 2:37 am
Hoosan rolls her eyes, and turns back to the windscreen. "Lame. Did you pick up her dry cleaning too?"
Apr 12, 2019 4:31 am
"We not pick up dry cleaning. We are highly trained professionals. Our boss was taken and we need back. How else we get paid." She finishes the statement with a smirk.
Apr 13, 2019 3:13 am
Micah looks at their pilot, unsure how much he wants her prying into their business, and tries to change the subject. "So, how long have you been ferrying people around in this thing?"
Apr 18, 2019 1:41 pm
The pilot just says, "Ages" over her shoulder as she focusses on flying the craft.

After leaving the city space, you travel for two hours above a strange, fractured landscape. Rifts and chasms break up the land, giving it the impression of being shattered or coming apart. Forests of alien trees and fungii cover the land, but you are too high up to see anything smaller. The occasional glint tells you of metal or glass, but you see no towns.

Later, without warning, she comes in down low to the ground, and then the craft hovers into a large rift. Here, the bedrock has been deliberately carved and smoothed, and you land in a huge hangar underground. A number of refugees hover near the edge of the hangar, dirty and bloody, and one of their number tentatively walks toward the Rift Runner, 'hat in hand' so to speak.

Hoosan practically shoos you off her vehicle, saying, "Welcome to Dran, no off you go. I'm sure you can find your own way back. I got to get scarce before I'm swarmed by more people than a train from Calcutta."
Apr 18, 2019 4:28 pm
"Right then, off we go. Thank you for your services, we will be sure to give you a 5 star rating on whatever passes for Yelp in Ruk. Be well." Seth yells over his shoulder, wasting no time in getting out of the vehicle, which he was certain would fall apart in mid-air for their entire trip.
Apr 19, 2019 3:26 am
Micah follows Seth off the vehicle with a small wave to Hoosan. "Thanks!" he says, loud enough to be heard over whatever noise her vehicle makes as it sits, waiting to lift off again.

As he moves away from the vehicle, Micah takes in the scene around him.
OOC:
The initial "hat in hand" gives me the impression that there are refugees here, trying to get back to some semblance of society. I want to take a look around to see if that initial impression is correct and see if there are any people who don't fit that mold.
Apr 21, 2019 2:00 am
They are definitely refugees, wounded and with little worldly goods. What they are fleeing isn't obvious.
Apr 21, 2019 3:45 am
Micah looks at the person who walked forward when they landed and asks, "What's going on here? Where are you coming from?"
Apr 21, 2019 3:51 am
The man, Rukish with several bio-implanted tubes attached to his throat, looks hopefully at you. "The collapses. Half the city is buried. Some of us tried to stay, they told us the worst was over, but damn them all another section of ground fell in. Hundreds more killed, others cut off. We had to dig out way out," he waves to encompass the group. "So many lost."
Apr 21, 2019 3:52 am

Duke turns his head sideways to look at the group. "Yall don't think whoever took Mr K opted to go with plan B since they're the impatient type? I'd prefer we get a round after we get him and leave Miss Sokolov... otherwise a dead boss can't write checks." he mentions before moving towards the way people are coming from.
Apr 24, 2019 3:05 am
Micah nods, "Let's go find him. I want my signing bonus."

As they walk through the crowd, Micah will ask people if they saw Culkin. He's not sure what Culkin looks like in Ruk, so he describes parts of him he hopes stayed the same, like the brilliant blue eyes, blonde hair, lanky build, etc.
Apr 24, 2019 3:23 am

You're standing in front of a gate, dark energy flickering around the outside.

It was an odd after noon, serendipitous even. "I thought I saw him in Holstov" or "Do you need a ride to Holstov" followed by a "Sure, I'll let you view my security feed" and a "For a song, I'll let you through." Serendipitous.

You pass through the Translation gate...

The Graveyard of the Machine God is a treacherous recursion of shattered satellites, rusted metals, chunks of tumbling machinery, and zero gravity.

You find yourself floating in this mad environment, unable to control your orientation or movement until you bump into a jagged trash wall.

From there you can see various fractures and chasms. In one a coiled rope of fibre optic cabling snakes into the darkness, small pinpricks of light marking their path.

It is clearly the way to go. But... To what?

Let's start with descriptions of your new forms and your first reactions.
May 2, 2019 3:52 am
A fist-sized sphere of silver metal appears with a large golden cross on one hemisphere. The sphere turns right, then left, then strafes to one side, then the other. A tinny voice from the sphere says, "What the hell? What happened to me?" A couple seconds pass as the knowledge that comes with the translation catches up to his perception and the sphere turns side to side, much as a head moves when it's shaken.

"Well, this is a new one for me..."

Duke looks around standing at the odd angle.

This is going to mess with my sense of balance for a bit. he thinks looking around.

"Every recursions new till you translate again..."

Seeing a piece of debris coming towards him Duke goes to block his face only to see it stop mid air and move in the opposite direction rapidly into the nothingness.

Looking down and around he leans in various directions and angles trying something.

"Looks like I can use my mind to do stuff here..." Duke states smooth down a tie.
May 2, 2019 4:03 pm
Seth feels the pull and twist as the recursion changes him, and then is nearly blinded with the overload of new information and knowledge gained. He feels his head expand and his brain matter increase, pulsing veins popping out over his forehead.

Unfortunately, the differing gravity level, coupled with his new head size and expanded knowledge and processing power, he is thrown off balance and spins a bit before getting down to some kind of level ground.

May 11, 2019 1:48 am
Thank you for the Might checks. Carry on.

With no other options, you follow the fibre-cable trail before you. You pull yourselves along a tunnel carved through the mishmash of debris. Soon, you come to a space. You appear to have begun in a free floating hunk of trash, a gargantuan assembly of no discernable function, one of many such hunks torn from something even grander.

In the space around you, you see other giant pieces, and smaller bits tumbling in between. You can feel the slightest pull toward the largest piece, dozens of miles long, and the sensation of hyper slow falling chills your nerves. Still, the cable snakes down through naked space to the core of this recursion that is part junk yard, part asteroid belt. There appears to be breathable air around you, a small mercy, though it is stagnant and bitter with chemical scent.

From the side, you hear a metallic holler. Looking over you see a quartet of cyborgs in severe disrepair. Sluggish, they ambulate toward you, clawed metal limbs reaching toward you in zombie like singlemindedness.

Initiative please, difficulty 4. They are a Short distance away.

Micah turns towards the group, his interface still connected with the sacrosanct.

"They took Caulkin somewhere. To some leader figure. They're under instructions to take any newcomers there, too. I think we should go with them." His sphere self swivels in the air to look at the cyborgs, then back at his team.

"If we resist, they might just beat the crap out of us and then take us there, anyway. I'd rather be in control, when we get there."
May 18, 2019 5:02 pm
The odd, busted looking cyborgs form a line. The first one grapples with the cable and begins crossing the open space. The second follows. The other two wait for you to follow as well.

They lead you through a network of tunnels, corridors, through holes and cave ins. It is a giant junk yard, but also the remains of a machine nearly the size of Ireland. You head deeper inside.

There are signs of other inhabitants. Small robots that scurry out of sight at your approach. Other sacrosancts, too, but after exchanhing a bust of static they continue their separate ways.

After a couple hours, you arrive at the sacrosanct city. Okay, town? How about hamlet? Would you believe campground? You're not welcomed with a ticket tape parade, the whole community out to pay tribute, so it's hard to get any sense of their size.

You enter a chapel, that is if HR Giger designed apocalyptic houses of worship.

At the front of the temple, a sacrosanct turns and looks at you. This one is different, not in appearance, but in mannerism. It moves in a more human fashion.

"Welcome to the Chapel of the Washed. I'm Grendel Nine. We have much to discuss." it says in English.
May 18, 2019 8:41 pm
Micah floats near to the new sacrosanct and says, "I'm sure we do. But first, tell me where's Culkin?" He takes a position slightly above and in front of the cyborg.

May 19, 2019 5:25 pm
Micah bobs up and down and says, "Ok, that sounds great. But, I seem to be missing a few pages from my script. Why don't you tell me what's going on?"
May 19, 2019 5:48 pm
Grendel Nine waves his hand as if framing a scene. "For that, I'll have to take you back to Halifax, Canada, 1982...."

He pauses, and then says, "Naw, I'll just shitting you. But it is a tale of some length.

There are good cyborgs and bad cyborgs. Good cyborgs, the sacrosancts, are nice and complacent, playing the cards dealt to them and almost never doing anything wrong. Bad cyborgs, the murderous razor-droids, aren't nice, and want to change things through the direct and systematic murder of everyone and everything 'Dissamble, Stephanie!' We all live here, and sometimes we get in each others way, which leads to violence and bloodshed.

Some time ago, I gathered as many as I could here, and have tried to keep us safe. We call ourselves the Washed. Like any community, we have legends of our own, and one tells us that one day there will be outsiders who go to The Terminal of their own free will and they might be the ingredient needed to reactivate the Machine God.

I've also heard the legend without the 'Free will' part. The ones that took your McCulken or whatever probably heard the alternate legend. So they have taken him there to reactivate and gain access to the Machine God's data banks.

Think of it... this incredible world coming alive. It is ancient in ways beyond the ability of mortals to comprehend. It knows things about the nature of the Recursions, and about the strange beings who created the dark energy network we call The Strange. If you're more short focused, it knows how to build weapons of staggering power, or limitless energy. In the wrong hands, the worst kind of knowledge could be obtained. At least, until the Machine God fully wakes up and locks down its defenses.

Until then, supplicants that survive the trek to The Terminal can sometimes get it to answer a few questions. The ones that took Caulking or whatever have been suspected of making several trips. Who knows what terrible things they have learned already, what secrets they have stolen, or what treasures they have found here.

We hope that you will go, of your own free will, and save our world. Possibly all worlds, not to overstate the case."
May 21, 2019 4:26 am

May 28, 2019 11:52 pm
Grendel Nine nods to Doc, and flicks a finger which brings forward a sacrosanct. "This is ... Well, let's call him Crash. He'll lead you to the Terminal. Ill send a squad another way to run interference, distract any interlopers somewhere else. You may run into trouble, but, I'm sure you'll be fine. Sound good?"

Grendel Nine holds out his fist for a bump.
May 29, 2019 3:00 am
Micah laughs a little at Grendel Nine's action, but floats up and bumps his fist with his spherical body. "Sounds like a plan, Stan. Let's get a move on."

He swivels back at the rest of the group and asks, "Anyone got anything else to say? Any powerful words to pump us up? This seems like the moment for it."
May 29, 2019 1:34 pm
"Of our limited options, this sounds like the best. Not sure that was what you are looking for Micah, but here we are. Lead on....sir?" Seth says, his head pounding a bit.

Deeper into the Machine God...

Your 'adventure' at Fischer Astrotech is coming full circle. The knowledge that created the mad destructive science of the Rukish Weapon, purportedly capable of breaking a recursion free from the Shoals of Earth (undoubtedly causing massive devastation in the process), had been traced to The Terminal, a data access port in the corpse-world of this ancient technological titan. The conspiracy that built the weapon appears to be using Doctor Culkin in order to obtain even more knowledge, an event so feared by the locals that they wrote prophecies about it. Will the Machine God awake? Will the conspiracy gain more forbidden tech? Will Dr. Culkin be rescued? The dark side clouds everything. Impossible to see the future is.

'Crash' leads you deeper into the graveyard, although you appear to be now within the massive corpse of this moon sized robot. Access corridors become the norm, but occasionally you find yourselves climbing down cable runs, or along ancient energy guides (thankfully inert). You see one scrawled mark, not so much graffiti and more like a captcha. Crash ignores it and leads you on. Deeper.

Two hours go by until your ears pick up a sound. You stop in silence attempting to identify it.

As the smoke clears, it is obvious that all three droids are destroyed. You are now lost with the Graveyard of the Machine God.

Crash's head is still intact, but unpowered. Micah may be able to interface with its memory circuits, at least those that are undamaged.
Jun 20, 2019 2:10 am
So Micah interfaces with the memory circuits, and draws from Crash's data banks a map to the Terminal.

Saying your silent farewells tho the sacrifice of the strange android, you continue on, your ears staining for the expected pursuit.

Deeper into the corpse of the Machine God...

Twenty hours later (mecha-Micah could tell you the exact minutes and seconds) you've managed to take a rough, difficult path through debris, along cable runs, down shafts, up stress fractures, and to a party unwittingly waiting for you.

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/MvBo_rKleNw/maxresdefault.jpg

From a 'balcony' 10 meters up overlooking the Terminal, an altar like holographic interface, all black metal slick as if with some oil. Dr. Micauley Culkin is tied to an X made of splintered carbon fibre beams. Visible wounds stripe his naked chest. Four razor droids, clearly unaware of your presence, are marching out of the chamber through a door that irises open them closed behind them.

Below you, Dr. Culkin slowly raises his head, and sees you. He smiles grimly.
Jun 20, 2019 12:59 pm
"Guess we should free him. I can get down there but I have no idea how to get him off the 50 shades of TMI..."
Jun 25, 2019 2:10 am
Culkin gestures with his head that you should come. Not really trusting him, you nonetheless make your way down, climbing down the uneven, electronic studded wall. One eye on the door, you cross the HR Giger-esque floor over to him and free him from his bonds. He stumbles, weak, cramped, but points at an access hatch on the Terminal - the dread interface to the Machine God.

"Thank you, I had no hope anyone could find me here. They cave in the store, paralyzed me with a cypher. Brought me here to fulfill some ignorant Prophecy. We can hide inside. Lock ourselves in and Translate out. Or we can roll the dice. Find out how deep that rabbit hole goes."
Jun 25, 2019 1:40 pm
"How about we free you and get out of Dodge. If we're not here they have little chance of doing what they're trying to do right?"
Jun 25, 2019 1:46 pm
"I would second that. We need to get out of here, and find our way back in the future when we are better equipped and prepared to explore this place." Seth says, steadying Culkin as he tries to stand.
Jun 28, 2019 12:37 pm
Culkin leads you inside The Terminal, which is just the name of the communications panel. Fitting into an access panel, you find a narrow tunnel between electronic parts. Thankfully, all of the circuitry appears to be inert.

You begin your Translation trance. Where to? Culkin suggests Earth. Micah can Hasten the Translation, Doc or Seth can Initiate it. Culkin or the other Paradox can Ease it. The fourth can assist.

Seth or Doc can roll for the Translation. Difficulty 4 for Earth, one free re-roll if required.

As you focus on the trip to Earth, with your erstwhile employer in tow, your minds reach for your destination, creating it, visualizing it, until Dr. Culkin sneezes. Too far into the process, you lose your anchor to Earth, struggle against the yawning chaos that is the raw Strange, and grasp at the first resursion you can feel.

As you materialize, you sense immediately that something has gone horribly, horribly wrong.

Your bodies feel awkward, gangly, misshapen. Your clothing doesn't fit right, your shoes are too small, and you you are ravenous. Looking around, you see that you are sitting in a classroom, a green chalkboard taking up the whole front wall, with maps and archaic symbols everywhere.

With an inward scream, you realize the awful truth: you've mistakenly Translated into a recursion where you are teenagers in high school.
