In the War time package, I have an option of taking either an injury/ or phobia/mania. Given that he fought in the Great War, what would be a good scar/injury to reflect a -1 to damage and build? After adding his attributes together that's what I ended up with for damage bonus and build.
Mustard gas burns seems an obvious and pretty horrific one.

If you’ve ever seen Ms Fisher Mysteries it takes place about this period of time and there’s a couple episode that deal with the troubles veterans had after the war. There’s on with a mustard gas survivor.

Great War vets are likely to be dime a dozen in France and Commonwealth countries, they’re more likely to be rare from the USA. The US didn’t enter the war until pretty late. I do like the idea of a veteran.
Certainly more rare than the other allies or central powers, but the US had 4 million mobilized during the Great War.

As others have said, chemical burns would be one obvious possibility; gunshot wounds would be far more common, though have less flavor. Artillery played a huge role in the war, as did barbed wire. Really, it could be just about anything - there wasn't much that wasn't tried in WWI.

No problem, I love the era, that attracts me more than the going insane and dying.
