All Adventures are Local - Chapter 1

Apr 9, 2019 5:05 pm
It's been nearly a week since each of you received a letter from Lady Elayne, the mayor of Bromwich. At times in your past you have served the town well, in fact some still do in some capacity.

You find yourselves in Bromwich as the morning starts the day before the famous Spring Festival. Though it is still early in the season, the rains and weather have combined to make for a muggy, and constantly overcast, spring. People wearing slightly fewer clothes than normal to avoid overheating as they go about their tasks. The streets of worn cobbles are caked with mud, and there is less foot traffic than you've noticed in the past for this time of year.

The mayoral mansion rises, like a red giant against the green backdrop of the woods, and the pathway up is well tailored. The clouds have started to break, letting the sunlight beam through.

Glenk a little too confident in his familiarity of the Mayoral Mansion wonders away from his guide and gets lost before being brought back to the gathering.

Matthew begrudgingly makes his way up the path. Stomping on the ground at times where is splashes mud. He wears mud caked chainmail armor with little shown care for cleaning or maintaining, just enough to keep it from breaking down. However the area bearing the mark of Haephin (his shoulders and chest) seems to be in pristine condition as is his glaive. He carries a warhammer at his hip that is also covered in mud and seems pretty much unused. He tends to stand a little away from the group wary of anything that might happen. He relaxes a little when he sees Eli. Hey Eli you know anything about all this dangerous stuff? Matthew asks. Ugh, I really don't like gatherings or rather anything to do with others... Hopefully can get this over with fast.

Glenk spies the young Half-Orc Matthew trading wind with Rohmner. Look how they’ve grown. Both strong soldiers.
He’s surprised to find Mandrake. Soot and salt! The healers here! Hope the trees’ve been behaving. he says as he slaps a hand hard onto Mandrake’s back.
Apr 9, 2019 7:14 pm
"They have friend," Mandrake rubs his shoulder where Glenk clapped him, "and your shoulders seems to have regained their strength."

Glenk lets out a great deep chuckle, Excellent that rub. Slept wit pine needles up my nose for those two weeks. Kept the busybodies away too.

Eli had been standing there waiting for the meeting to start. Why do I feel like a kid who just got caught taking apples from the orchard...again. Eli is lost in the memories of his childhood as the others filter into the meeting place. Reaching over to pull his tabard, yet again, to make sure it's neat and everything is in order. Pulled out of his daydream by Matthew's question, Eli smiles at his childhood friend.

"I'm not sure, but it must be a foul deed to be sure, if they're reuniting the Bash Brothers." Eli answers with a wide grin on his face as he mentions the nickname they had when they were growing up.

OOC:
Oh God... Spring has just started...
How many different adjectives are there in English? ;)
A female elf breaths in the fresh morning air as she walks the cobbled streets of Bromwich that lead to the mayoral mansion. The streets feel emptier than she would expect for this time of year, but maybe it is just too early for the usual commotion of people going about their daily lives. It has been nearly a week since she got the letter from Lady Elayne. Oh! She hasn't seen the Lord Mayor for such a long time.... Yet, the Spring Festival would be starting tomorrow and that was the most exciting part of being invited to Bromwich. How she had always loved the Festival!. True, the letter was a bit worrying, and a bit of adventure could be exciting and fun, but it was the Festival she was longing for when she left Mosstop forest, now the green backdrop behind the red mayoral mansion that stood in front of her.

She stops to feel the warmth of the newly escaped sunlight on her skin, and starts humming a happy song. "Nàdair Ràithean, for the Lord Mayor" she confidently states to the standing guard, showing the letter she received. "Now that's a pretty face I don't remember seeing before!". She is well known in town and the guard was expecting her, so this mostly theatrical greeting was an excuse to get far closer to the new guard than he seemed comfortable with. The guard uneasily shows her the way in, indicating where the small gathering was being hosted.

As everyone stands in the room chatting and catching up, they sense a delightful presence, a fleeting note, a floral scent, filling the room. They turn to the door and immediately recognize the slender and graceful figure, her bewitching silver eyes, as pale as the moonshine, capturing the attention of everyone as if by magic. Her long and wavy green hair falling softly on the fine linen covering her pale soil-brown shoulders. That is Nàdair all right, the elf bard from Mosstop forest, always carrying her wooden lute, leather dress and the forest dagger hidden by her dress. Arriving fashionably late, she bows as she enters the room, in an over-the-top, yet respectful performance "Lady Elayne, long time no see" she greets the mayor with a radiant smile. Looking around, she takes note of all who have also been summed to the meeting. "I see you find yourself in some nice company" she adds as she drops her backpack against a wall. "Ah! Mandrake, you're also here?" she says enthusiastically "Any news from the Archdruid?". Before Mandrake has the chance to answer, she turns to Glenk "Glenk, my good friend. Did you change the guard for the mansion? You must introduces us, maybe during the Festival" she eagerly suggests briefly remembering the new guard.

"So, down to businesses. I hear that there are some new threats from the depths of Glitterhall to the furthest reaches of Hadrigan's Swamp" she pauses, humming something as she tries to fit that sentence into a melody. "Providing help to those in need, defending those too week to protect themselves, ah, the life of a hero, how romantic and glamorous!"

Leviticus has been standing a little too long looking at all the people who are barely dressed. Waiting and looking for anybody that he could pick pocket but there's no one since they're wearing less than usual. I make my way to the rest of the party. Greetings all

Turning to the wood elf and acknowledging Nàdair, Glenk pipes up again, Greetings! To you both! Guard change? I was not aware. I'd be glad to introduce you, if you wish, if he is not on duty tomorrow. But speaking of introductions! I do not know you young elf (Leviticus), and that's a hard feat to accomplish!

Through personal initiative or escort by the new mansion guard, who doesn't seem to be sporting the uniform of the Bromwich Guard, you are all escorted into the mayor's mansion. Through the well-decorated foyer and beyond into a small conservatory overlooking a carefully groomed garden. A long table is laid out with chairs enough for all, a spread of light fare, and carafes of wine set out to breathe.

As you enter, you all take note of Lady Elayne, standing near the windows with wine in hand. Her elegant high-necked emerald green dress, accented throughout with ruby-red roses, flowed across her lithe frame like a river of lace and taffeta. Raven black hair, with just a small shock of white starting at one temple, is tied up in a braided bun.

Welcome, all of you. I'm glad you were able to make it. Please, sit, and have some food. We have much to discuss. she says, gesturing with her wine hand to the table, as she absentmindedly twists a slightly too large ring around her finger on the other hand.

Nàdair thankfully winks at Glenk as he agrees to introduce her to the new guard. She happily strolls through the well-decorated foyer and into the conservatory where Lady Elayne is waiting for them. She bows as she enters the room, in an over-the-top, yet respectful performance "Lady Elayne, elegant as ever". Noticing Lady Elayne's dress, standing there as if a flower picked from the outside garden, Nàdair gently plays some quick notes from her lute in a highly precise manner and sings strange words (Terran). The fresh scent of roses slowly arises from the mayor's dress and the soft tones of a bird song enter the room from the outside garden. As she takes her seat, a garden of blooming flowers appears on the long table as if dressed to match the Lord Mayor. "I must say, my Lady, that is a most lovely dress" she says smiling with a sincere spark in her eyes. "Now, that reminds me of tale of the hidden giants... have you ever heard this one?

Mandrake interrupts Nàdair with a smile, "Nàdair, I'm sure we will all love hearing this tale, but it will have to be for another time. If Lady Elayne asked for our help, I suggest we let her tell us more about those new threats. "

Glenk decides to let everyone else take their seats first, if at all. Why would the sheriff not also be here? Thank ye for the breakfast Ladee Elayne. He takes a bit of bread and cheese from the table. And returns most of his attention, the cheese is very good, to the young elf.

Matthew walks over to the table and roughly pulls a chair out of its spot before sitting down in it, moving it back into a place around the table but easily enough room for himself. Leaving his glaive to rest behind his chair and his warhammer clanking against the wood of the chair along with his armor "Ahh..." Matthew sighs. Leaning back in the chair slouching some. He waits expectantly Hopefully now I can have some actual action.
Apr 11, 2019 11:09 pm
Eli moves to the table and sits down beside Matthew. Grabbing dome bread and cheese, he casually begins to eat as he waits for the Lady Mayor to continue.

Leviticus walks in hopefully not to late because he didn't want to miss anything. He sits next to Glenk as I push in my chair he stares at the bread and cheese. It looks so tasty i think as I grab some bread smiling at the Lady Elanye.

Boy you’re name, what is your name? Slightly aggravated at (Leviticus) gently kicking his chair.
Apr 12, 2019 1:08 pm
I look at Glenk oh sorry I should of told you earlier my name is Leviticus nice to meet you.
Apr 12, 2019 3:51 pm
Lady Elayne watches the interactions with a slightly bemused look on her face.

I'm afraid Mandrake is right Nàdair. While I would love to hear another of your - ah - infamous tales, there are a few concerns we should discuss. she says, sinking into her chair at the head of the table. With a wave of her hand, she sends her household guard out of the conservatory door.

Again, thank you all. As I mentioned in my letter, there have been numerous reports of threats that we need assistance with. Glenk, you're here at Mikhail's request. He's meeting with the Stormlash tribes from the mountains this week. Something about some goliath-forged weapons that we may be able to secure. You know how keen he's always been to speak with them. Either way, I wrote to all of you specifically because of the skills you can bring to bear on the issues at hand. she continues on, pausing occasionally for a sip of the brightly floral wine.

Effectively, any direction you look, we've received reports. Belfleur Starpetal reported that their caravan was attacked coming through Hadrigan's Swamp a month or so ago. We didn't give it over much consideration, given how prone to exaggeration their company has always been. However, we received a runner from Olgarch's Leathers. Their caravan was assaulted in Hadrigan's swamp as well, and the boy was the only one that managed to escape. she says, a dark look over her eyes before proceeding on. The dwarves of Glitterhall have requested aid. It would seem some of their 'honored dead' have been rising as spirits and attacking the outskirts of the stronghold.

The mayor takes a breath and cracks her neck slightly. Glenk, you're familiar with the reports of robberies and the stabbing deaths of a few folk in the merchant ward? I know you all haven't found a connection yet, but it's another one of the ones that bears investigating. Obviously, if you head off elsewhere, you'll need to assign a guard to manage that investigation. Her hand fiddles with the ring again, more nervously this time.

Nàdair and Mandrake, I'm not sure how much you've heard from Fegstaf and his boys? They tend to stay away from your warrens of Mosstop, for sure. Well, they've been trying to drive off a pack of wolves to the northwest of here. Nothing they have tried has worked yet. They can't figure why. Apparently the pack is getting aggressive near the town line. A few sheep and a goat have been killed. she finishes, sitting back with a heavy exhalation of breath. Those are the heaviest threats at the moment. I hope you can help us?
